Venture on a Mystical Journey through Time and Secrets Past

Women of War spans four generations of women in Alena's family from her great-grandmother, Shar Draiocht the last known Queen of the Dark Kingdom to her tortured daughter Morrowind, to Maven Alena's free-spirited mother and through the lonely life of Alena MacLeod ending where "The Heart of War" begins with the night Alena washes up on Ares' shore.

With intensity, lust, fear, and strength these Women of War make their way in the world revealing the hidden truths of the past and Ares true connection to his beloved Wife, Alena.

18+ EXCERPT:

"My Lord?" Shar whispered quietly as she gazed up at him with wide eyes full of confusion and fear.

Liking the sound of it, Ares smiled then held a hand out to help her to feet. "That's right, I'm Lord." He swept her off her feet and laid her down on the bed where his mouth closed down just under her ear and she let out a long shiver as her arms wrapped around him. Shar's chilly breasts pressed against his furry chest, her arms and legs wrapped around him bringing him closer. Ares pulled away to gaze down at her and rolled his tongue along his lips. She trembled in a shudder of passion and fear that brought her closer to the edge. "Don't worry, little Queen, I won't tell anyone what you let me do tonight."

Wanting that and so much more, the powerful Queen of the Dark Kingdom offered up no resistance, only a long wanton sigh when he pinned her arms over her head with one hand. Then he descended her body covering her cold breasts with his hot mouth, his moist tongue lapping along their mounds. Her breath came in heavy shallow gasps as she reached down to run her hands through his long hair and let the fire within him warm her to the chilly marrow in her delicate bones. They roamed wildly through silky strands of hair laying over his firm rippled back and down his broad shoulders. Just the feel of his skin below her hands brought the fire she sought for so long and was denied. Fae men were small, delicately framed like the women. They were scrawny and always smelled badly even though she had them washed before they marched into her bedchamber. They were hardly what a woman, a small woman like her, would call upon for safe haven. They were not what a woman of power could surrender to even for a few moments of promised bliss.

When he laid himself over her, Ares body covered her entirely like a warm blanket. A haven. A place she could hide and show her true self for those few moments of promised bliss. He was warm, so warm, all she wanted was for him to let her lay next to him, wrap her arms around him, rest her head over his beating heart and have him hold her close throughout the cold dark nights. The lower his hands and lips went the hotter she grew until all of the iciness that plagued her so long dissipated and her lean body heaved below him trying to get closer still.

Down the flat of her tiny stomach and over the sides of a waist his could lace his fingers around, the mound of dark hair between her legs waited for him. Inviting him closer was the gentle scent of honeysuckle and cinnamon wafting from its musky walls. Such a delightful scent he'd never known and it seemed he couldn't breathe in enough of it to fully please him only to tease his already fevered mind. It made the slightly perverted thoughts there turn darker still racing with images of wicked delights so real it took his heartbeat with them and together they charged, two wild horses racing against the wind.

ARC Review: The Vampire With the Dragon Tattoo by Kerrelyn Sparks

Title: The Vampire with the Dragon Tattoo (Love at Stake, #14)
Author: Kerrelyn Sparks

Genre: Paranormal Romance
Length: Novel (384pgs)
Release Date: Aug 27, 2013

He's Out of Control

Dougal Kincaid has something to prove. After being injured in a battle with the Malcontents, he's ready for active duty protecting unsuspecting mortals from these villainous vampires who want to rule the world. But first he has to get control of himself . . . because just the sight of a certain lovely doctor has his injured hand doing some peculiar things, not to mention the sizzling sensation that burns along his dragon tattoo.

Vampires? Vampires?! As a scientist, Leah is having trouble believing that these immortal creatures exist. But there they are, standing in front of her, asking for help in solving a genetic puzzle that can save mankind. There's even one in a sexy kilt! Just one look into Dougal's gorgeous green eyes sets her pulse racing. But can she trust him—and the overwhelming desire that refuses to be ignored?

BAM! Book number 14! Can you believe it?!

Usually by book 7 of a series you'll find a lull in story, or repeated story-lines. Fortunately Sparks keeps it fresh with this newest installment of Love at Stake. The humor is still there, but you also get a very serious story of a guy that feels less of a man, and an awkward geek finding love.

I think part of the success of this series are that the characters are so different.  I've heard authors say that their characters speak to them, so I can only imagine the 100's of voices that must be flowing through Sparks' mind at one time. lol.  From book to book you get individuals with wonderfully unique quirks.

I don't want to give away too much plot, because there is a wonderfully heart warming twist and it would stink if you knew about it before hand. Just know that Dougal and Leah are meant to be. They have their ups and downs, but what fun would it be if they didn't!?

The action in this one is kept to a minimum, but the villain story line in Asia is still going strong. Hopefully in the next book we'll get to see a good 'ol fashion showdown between our wonderful Romatech saviors and the evil vamps causing problems out east.

So, great addition to the Love at Stake series! If you've read them to this point don't stop now! If you haven't checked out this series, pick it up today! You'll be in paranormal romance heaven :)

*OH! And guess who's back for another appearance? That's right, VANNA ;)  Love that doll!

Just to get you caught up, Here's the Love at Stake series reading order:

Veronica Armatti, a hairdresser and infatuation addict, has managed to strike the perfect balance between her daily existence and her overpowering desires. Veronica's husband, Joe, tolerates her addiction as long as he doesn't know the details. Veronica decides to get her latest fix with Andrew, an artist she meets at a grocery store. Andrew inducts Veronica into a mysterious and hypnotic dream world, where the powerful Devan entices her into his tribe of shape shifters, and where dreams and reality mingle in a deadly, intricate dance of survival.

I'll start off by saying that I love the cover of this book, it actually flows very well with the storyline. Sometimes I see covers that don't really capture the story, or I feel like the cover doesn't "match" the story per se. But the cover of Dream is perfect! The author created an amazing world, I thought it was a very interesting read and totally cool and a bit twisted but in a beautiful dream like way.  I liked it and disliked it at the same time, actually the only thing I disliked about it was Devan. He was a bit sneaky and I didn't vibe very well with him. But the ending was so awesome, I loved it. At first I thought I was lost, maybe I missed something, but then it all comes to light and I was like YES! So totally awesome, twisted and very cool ending.
Veronica has what she calls an addiction for extra marital affairs, her husband Joe is ok with it, as long as he isn't told about it. But she does it because she feels that she is missing something, she thinks she's finding it with some side nookie. Then she meets Andrew, a dream walker, who takes her into a world that she falls in love with and thinks she's has finally found the missing piece to her soul.  Veronica is fascinated by the dream world, it calls to her, and Andrew isn't so sure they should go back in. But she doesn't care, she goes back in and  that's when things get kind of crazy, but in such a good way.
Awesome read, I highly recommend it!

Review: A Demon and Her Scot by Eve Langlais

Title: A Demon and Her Scot (Welcome to Hell, #3)
Author: Eve Langlais
Source: Author
Genre: Comedic, Paranormal Romance (vamp, demon)
Length: Short novel (150pgs)
Reviewer: CaroleDee

An unlikely duo, the golfing match from Hell, and a devil determined to win, even if he has to cheat.

Lucifer’s up to his matchmaking mischief again in this fast-paced, humorous jaunt into the bowels of the pit. Think you can handle the heat?

“Fetch me a Scot,” Lucifer commands. Sounds simple, except the skirt-wearing jerk won’t cooperate. But Aella isn’t one to give up. Willing or not, she delivers her target to the Lord of Sin. In retaliation, the much-too-sexy Scot has Aella assigned as his bodyguard for the golfing match from Hell.

One shot ruined Niall’s life. A second shot could help him regain it. Niall sold his soul once to win a lady’s heart only to end up betrayed. Does he dare take a risk and give love a second chance?

Another hit from Eve. I just can't get enough of her evilly delicious characters and the outrageous circumstances they find themselves in.

Aella is a gopher for Luicifer. He says jump, and she asks how high. She might sound like a pushover, but when the Lord of the underworld is your boss you might kiss a little butt too ;)
Don't get me wrong, they have a playful relationship, so she gets her digs in. When he asks her to go to the outer rings of hell (i.e the slums) to pick up a golf-pro-vamp to help him win a match with his big bro (God) she takes her ax and heads out to get another job done.

Niall swore off playing golf years ago. To him, one golf match was the catalyst to everything bad that happened to him. He's decided that spending eternity drinking his woes away and ignoring everything is the best way to deal. Which is exactly how Aella finds him. Drunk, in a run down bar, with centuries of neglect altering his appearance. (I'd love to know what a few centuries of beard growth would look like. lol)

After a bit of a scrub, a hair cut, and a HUGE amount of sexual tension Aella finds herself attracted to the outrageous Scot. Niall feels the same way, but can a vamp living in the past have a future with a sexy independent demon?  OF COURSE! And the journey to get there is hilarious.

Stick this one at the top of your to-read pile, because no matter what mood you're in A Demon and Her Scot will fulfill your need ;)

Review: Silent Screams By: Yvonne Nicolas

Title: Silent Screams

Genre: Paranormal Interracial Erotic Romance
Length: 439 pages PDF

**I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review**

R&B sensation, Sharayna “Rayne” Piers, lives her life dedicated to her music. On stage and in the studio, she pours her heart and soul into the lyrics of her songs, hoping to deliver a piece of herself to the listeners. But ever since her twentieth birthday, her seemingly normal life has taken a turn to the dark side.

Piercing screams and horrendous acts of murder seizes her mind, haunting her night and day. Women similar to her in age are vanishing all over the world without a trace. It leaves Rayne wondering if the rash of disappearances is connected to her visions.

Soon, she will discover the world she was raised in is just a cover for what really hides in the shadows, and that her life as a human is a deception to mankind, a guise to conceal her true nature. Will she shun the darkness that has befallen her or step up to the throne and become what she was created to be?

Wow! I don't even know where to start. If I could have devoured this book in less time then I already did, I would have. Rayne is a R&B star with a destiny that she is not even aware of herself. Since she has turned twenty years old, odd things have been happening that have been messing with her mind. She thinks she is going crazy, and unfortunately her guardians cannot tell her anything until she is ready. She must figure out what she can on her own, but she does find some help with the mysterious man of her dreams. Demetri is a Xsonri and her destined mate, their souls call to each other and when they finally meet, I think saying sparks fly totally down plays their encounter, it's freaking amazing. Demetri helps Rayne as best he can without traumatizing her with all of it at once, but she must learn quick before war erupts.

I absolutely loved Silent Screams, the story line was  intriguing to say the least, and the characters are awesome. I'm a little torn on which one I like best between Demetri and his brother Maurisio, but almost every single male character is sexy as hell and absolutely delicious. This is the first book that I've read with an interracial couple, and it was so damn sexy! It was an amazing read and I found myself at the end way too quickly. The author has done her job well when you reach the end and you say to yourself WHYYYYYYYYYYY  oh WHYYYYYYYY is it over?!!!!!!! I need more and I need it now!! I am so looking forward to the next installment in this series!! I cannot wait!!
If you like stories with sexy vampires, shifters, witches with an apocalyptic theme, then you will love Silent Screams!

Review: Duncan (The Protectors Series Book 3) By: Teresa Gabelman

Title: Duncan (The Protectors Series, Book 3)
Author: Teresa Gabelman
Source: Bought
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Reviewed by: Emi

Leader of the VC Warriors Cincinnati branch, Duncan Roark, has devoted his long life to the Warriors he calls brothers and the Vampire Council, protecting innocents of both the vampire and human race. Things change suddenly when it is ordered that he and his fellow Warriors train human Social Workers to protect themselves in their new world of vampires. Falling in love with a human was something Duncan never thought possible, but love her he did. Now instead of being the ruthless leader he was trained to be, his focus has turned to finding the woman he loved and let go.

Pam Braxton is outgoing and loves her job working with children, but when she realizes her live in boyfriend, Kenny Lawrence, has been using her and her job for his illegal activities, she becomes withdrawn, and her world is turned upside down. Deciding to take matters into her own hands, she stays, trying to learn more of his betrayal so she could see him punished. That decision sucks her deeper into a relationship that has turned dangerous and abusive. Overhearing a plot that would put everyone she cares about at risk, she finds the courage to try to stop the monster who has threatened her friends and the man she truly loves. Now Pam is on the run, alone and with a secret that could change the already unbalanced world of vampires and humans.

As Duncan searches for Pam, the threat of losing his leadership role has the other Warriors worried, but their loyalty for Duncan is strong and they stand behind him. Duncan’s search is relentless; he knows he is not the only one looking for Pam. Even with his responsibilities slipping, he puts it all on the line to find the only woman he has ever loved. In a race against time, Duncan fights to find Pam before her past catches up to her. The Warrior’s path is clear: Find the woman he loves before the past finds her first.

If you guys haven't read the first two books, well you need to. This is such an amazing series. I couldn't wait for Duncan & Pam's story. I was battling myself the whole time I was reading it. Do I want to keep turning the pages because it is just sooooooooooooooo good, or do I want to go slower so it doesn't end. Duncan is absolutely lost without Pam, and once she returns he doesn't want to let her out of his sight, and he's dying, as well as the other Warriors, to get revenge for what's happened. I really can't say too much with spoiling it, especially if you haven't read the first two books. But I will say that it is amazing, not only the Warriors, but the enemy they are fighting against. It is quite real in our world, I actually wish we could seek justice the way the Warriors do. Teresa is an excellent writer and her characters are funny, loyal, sexy, and fight for what is right. How could I not love them?!
We are also introduced to another Warrior, Slade, who is a Doctor as well. I know the next book is about Sid, and I'm absolutely looking forward to it, but I also hope Slade & Jill get a book soon too. The Warriors are HYSTERICAL, I definitely laughed out loud quite a few times, and my hubs just looked at me like I was crazy, lol.
I cannot wait for the next book, I highly recommend this series. It has everything; sexy vampire warriors, lots of action, hot sex, an amazing plot, and the warriors are funny.

Review Mandy's Story by D'Elen McClain

Title: Mandy's Story (Fang Chronicles #4)
Author: D'Elen McClain
Source: Author Request
Genre: Paranormal Romance- humorous and shifters
 Length: Novella
Reviewed by Laurie

Mandy’s Story is a standalone, humorous and little bit kinky side story to the Fang Chronicles series.

Every beastkind knows you don’t mess with a Kodiak bear—everyone that is except Mandy, the wolf-pack Alpha’s sister. When Mandy hears whispers that the bad attitude bear, Honey, has chosen a mate, she takes matters into her own hands because her wolf decided months before that Honey was hers. If drugging, kidnapping, and making him live in a feral cage won’t work she’s planning to give Honey a little bad attitude of her own.

The bear clan is ferocious, deadly, and their fighting skills coveted by other beastkind. With war on the horizon, Honey has little time for games or courting much less more than a few grunts of acknowledgement to a young she-wolf who seems to be everywhere he looks. When he wakes up in a feral cage at the hands of that same exasperating she-wolf… all bets are off.

If anyone thought bears and wolves don’t mix, they’ve never seen Mandy on a mission. She refuses to give into the sexy he-bear when he tries to seduce her out of her tight little assets and himself out of the cage she’s locked him in. Two can play that game and in the end Honey will learn, they both need to win, or else.

Sorry, about this I know I am repeating myself but I've read two of these type books back to back so I feel the need make sure readers know these type of book do exist. I’m so tired of people saying heroines in romance are weak and they have to have the hero’s always saving the day. Well, let me tell you something, this book is here to prove you wrong, heroine's can be the strong lead too in romance books.

Mandy’s story is hilarious, but let me tell you up front she isn’t a weak heroine, nope no way no how, she’s not taking any crap off of any man or bear. She will stop at nothing to show them women can do more than men, even if she has to resort to using devices like tranquilizing guns, ropes & chains. Bears are set in there ways and can be hard to deal with but she proves that she can hold her own and she even gets to save a life in the process.

Mandy and Honey goes several round of fun bickering with each other before he finally caves in and clams her as his mate. But never worry, Mandy still has to show him whose boss a time or two, you know just to keep him in check. LOL.

My only reasons for not rating this a 5 was in once place Honey calls Mandy a" bitch" and for some reason the way it’s written, I just didn’t care for it and my other reason is the name Honey for a man bear…
If you love humor, action and romance than this fun book cannot be missed because D'Elen pulls out all of the stops and sucks you right in.

Please spay and neuter your pets.

Sparks fly under the full moon in paranormal suburbia.

Vampire Alexandria Cartwright believes she’s found the perfect home in paranormal suburbia. An independent young woman and professional financial adviser, Alexi needs help from no man, human or paranormal. Until burglars break into her house and steal her most valuable possession–one which could lead to her demise.

Werewolf Gregory Holmes is instantly attracted to his new neighbor and wants nothing more than to protect her from any who would seek to harm her. Helping Alexi recover her stolen safe seems to be the perfect opportunity to show her how he feels.

Centuries of experience have shown Alexi all men are greedy pigs who only think with the brain below their belt. But as Greg comes to her aid repeatedly, she wonders if he’s the real deal. Can she overcome her loathing for men? Can Greg break through the wall she’s built to show her the meaning of love?

***WARNING: Kinds/Sorta/Possibly spoilers in this review. Nothing major, but there wasn't a way for me to get around some stuff to write this review.***

I wanted to love this book. I wanted it to be 'the one' that pulled me out of, yet another, book slump. The synopsis sounded great, it has a beautiful cover, and the author seems like a real nice chic. Unfortunately, there were a few things that let me down.

I really liked Greg. The lawyer/werewolf/overall hero was awesome as a love interest. He's almost the cookie cutter nice guy (with a little edge when it comes to sexin) that every girl dreams of.
Alas, I was not feeling the love for the heroine, Alexi. Talk about trust issues. Sheesh! I got so tired of reading about her mistrust of men and how they were all users and abusers.  Apparently her maker was a real mean guy. Killed her family, and made her do bad things. Then there's talk of a more recent relationship that ended up in the dumps. I get it, she's got bad taste in men. I can't tell you how many times she rambles on about how much men suck.
Repetition does not make for good reading.

Then there were just weird things that didn't seem like they were necessary. For the first 30% of the book Alexi is constantly texting/talking to her BFF, Cass. I guess they've known each other for a long time, but no real back story is given. Then at about the 35% mark, POOF, Cass disappears never to be heard from again. Maybe she'll get her own story in the future? I'm not sure.

The book has a slew of other characters that show up for brief periods, get you interested and then, they too, do a magic act and are never heard from again. I've read enough series starters to understand the concept of pulling a reader in so that they want to continue the series, but the dangling threads of the other residents' stories just aggravated me in this one.

It wasn't just residents that disappear either. A whole plot about Alexi being investigated by the police over some drained bodies is quickly, and oddly dismissed.
*chapters of thinking she's sucking humans dry, and then the police go, "Oh, it couldn't have been you. Have a nice after-life"
WHAT? After it was so easily dismissed I felt pages and pages of the book were wasted by it even being in there :/

So let me just say, it's a good book from the ROMANCE stand-point. If the story had stuck to the building of Alexi and Greg's relationship I would have been happy. All of the extra stuff bogged down the story, and left me frustrated.

Shanna is thrilled when her fiancé sweeps her off to Ireland for a romantic interlude and asks her to marry him at Castle Tullamore. But their sexual adventure quickly turns into a nightmare when he reveals his dark side. With the engagement broken and her fiancé gone, she crumples into the arms of Tullamore’s handsome gardener, Niall. He proves how hot, sensual and mind-blowing sex can be. It’s unsettling, though, how he manages to distance himself after making love. In fact, he downright disappears!

Niall mourns the death of his beloved Abigail until he sees Shanna. He falls in love with the gorgeous American but fears his heart will surely be broken again. They can’t stay together, not in the manner Shanna needs. But when a determined, dark apparition begins stalking her, Niall realizes it may be the key to their destiny.

Part of the Emerald Isle Fantasies series.

I have a confession. I'm a big scaredy cat. I really dislike ghost movies and stories, or anything with evil Demonic exorcisms or anything like that.  Which is kind of funny since the last two books I've read were ghost mysteries. But they were both excellent reads.

Phantom Mischief  was a great read. It was definitely a page turner for me, I finished it no time time at all. Ireland and it's history and  tales of the castles have always intrigued me, so when I find a story with a sexy paranormal twist to it, I love it.  Shanna is visiting Tullamore Castle with her (stupid) fiance for their one year anniversary. While trying to get cozy in their room, things start to get freaky, and not in the good way. As it turns out, her fiance is a total jerk and she is left alone for the remainder of the week. She tries to get her schedule together and make her way back home, but destiny and Tullamore's ghosts have other plans for her. Shanna is quite a funny character, the way she gets freaked out and over analyzes the situation, I would totally be doing the same thing. And what is there not to love about a sexy gardener with a delicious Irish accent, who just happens to be a ghost, lol.

Phantom Mischief is a great, sexy ghost mystery.

Review: Lord Griffin's Prize by Katalina Leon

Title: Lord Griffin's Prize (Emerald Isle Fantasies)
Author: Katalina Leon
Source: Publisher Request
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Length: Novel
Release Date: July 10, 2013
Reviewer: Jasmyn

Tullamore Castle, Ireland, is an enchanted place where the unexpected happens.  Phantom lovers materialize in haunted bads and a lonely griffin patrols the ramparts, waiting to reclaim its mate.  And that's just the beginning.

For the adventure of a lifetime, Maeve de Burgo visits Tullamore to study genealogy.  Through a magggical act and time travel, she becomes embroiled in a dangerous medieval romance and the unfinished life of her ancenstor.  Maeve gets thrown back in time to be captured, ravished and cherished as a war chief's prize.

Ronan O'Griofa is a griffin shifter, the most loyal of creatures.  He's been trapped in limbo as the avenging guardian of Tullamore since 1332 and longs to be free.  When the soul of his wife returns to the castle, he's granted the privilege of becoming a man for one day to be her lover, win her heart and remind Maeve of a bond strong enough to last an eternity.

Part of the Emerald Isle Fantasies series.

Maeve is drawn to Catle Tullamore after a painful divorce - it seems the best place to get in touch with her history and move on from her disasterous relationship.  Tullamore is full of legends and myths, but the one that draws Maeve the most is the story of the griffin.  When strange things begin to happen she chalks it up to an overactive imagination at first, but soon the flashbacks to an ancient time become more and more real.

These flashbacks were by far my favorite part of the story.  While they were not the main part of the story, the characters really came to life and overshadowed their modern counterparts.  Unfortunately, the  modern versions just didn't catch my interest as much as I had hoped.

The story itself was incredibly sweet and very romantic.  Ronan has been waiting for centuries for another chance, now he just has to earn it with the "new" Maeve.  He tries hard, but the sunset time limit is mentioned just a little too often, almost like the reader was expected to forget about it.  Ronan seemed a bit stagnant, while Maeve was very dynamic and adapting to all the crazy things happening around her.

Rendezvous with Hymera follows the development of a beautiful love story and a bizarre chain of events which lead to the investigation of a mystery that falls into a strange and somewhat paranormal discipline - Yoga.

The amateurish investigation starts when Clara DeVine changes her plans for a vacation and ends up in a strange place, where strange things happen. In the scene enters Colin Lambert, a special man from Clara’s past. Their attempts to elucidate the intriguing mystery bring them close again and the unfinished business between them turns into a beautiful and hot love story.
The fate of the female enigma of this story seems to resemble in a strange way that of the people inexplicably lost during The Philadelphia Experiment.

I thought this was a very cool read! It was beautifully written, very descriptive and detailed.  I say love story with paranormal influence because the main characters have no paranormal abilities or attributes. They just happen to be a human couple in the middle of a ghost mystery. Which is totally awesome. I think another awesome aspect of the story is that Clara and Colin have known each other for years and have always felt an attraction for each other but never acted on it,  and after some time apart, they finally see each other again and don't let the opportunity pass. I really enjoyed Clara's character, I agree with mostly everything she says in her discussions with Colin or just thoughts to herself.  It was a very interesting read and the mystery ghost and the investigating by Clara and Colin make it a page turner.

I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to more of Melissa's work.
