Interview with romance author Patricia Leever

I had the privilege to review Patrica's new book Cat O' Nine Tails and loved it. So  I wanted to share more about her and the book with you guys. I hope you enjoy the interview.

Hello Patricia. First I want to thank you for doing this interview. Would you tell everyone a little about yourself?

Patricia- Let’s see I’m the stay-at-home mom of 4; I’ve been married to the same guy for 20 years. I like to find the humor in everyday life because being nasty takes up too much energy. I have a degree in high school, a master’s in geekdom and I’m working on my doctorate in life.

Laurie-Would you tell us some of your favorite authors?

Patricia- Naturally I adore all of the amazing authors in my Omnific family, they are all amazingly talented. One of my all time favorites, in romance is Paula Quinn, she was where my romance adventure began and I haven’t looked back. I own every single book she’s ever written and will own every book she plans to release in the future. I also enjoy the writing styles of Elizabeth Hoyt, Stephanie Laurens, Mary Jo Putney and Lisa Klepas.

Laurie- What was the first thing you did when you heard your book was being published?

Patricia- Cried like an idiot LOL.

Laurie- As you know I read your Cat O’ Nine Tails and really enjoyed it. Would you tell those who haven’t read your book a little about it?

Patricia- Well, let’s see, it’s a fast paced love story between a female pirate and the man that has been sent to hunt her down. There is quite a bit of humor, sexy times, a battle at sea and surprises that hopefully you don’t see coming ;)

Laurie- Why a woman as a pirate in this era?

Patricia- Why not? I know it’s more common for the man to be the pirate, wooing all of the ladies in every port but why can’t it be a woman using her feminine wiles to make her way in the world? She’s just doing the best with what she has to work with.

Laurie-What was the biggest hurdle you had to do in writing Cat O’ Nine Tails?

Patricia- Finding the time to write and after stalling 2/3 of the way through, finding the muse to pick it back up again and finish it.

Laurie- Do you have a favorite character out of the whole book? If so who?  And why?

Patricia- Well, of course I love Aeron and Orrin, but I think my favorite is Kale because he was fun to write. Aeron and Orrin were fun too, but there was a humor in Kale that only worked with him.

Laurie- Where is your writing taking us to next?

Patricia- Next, if all goes well, I’ll be taking you in a different genre! Yeah, I’m a genre jumper. I’m working on polishing this next piece up to present to my publisher. This is an Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance about a 134 year old demon hunter in present day Los Angeles named Evelyn Write. I’m also working on a sequel to Cat O’ Nine Tails that picks up with William’s story.

Review Cat O' Nine Tails by Patricia Leever

Title: Cat O' Nine Tails
Author: Patricia Leever
Genre: Historical romance
Source: Publisher request
Format: eBook 221 pgs. Also in paperback

When Orrin and his brother Kale are hired by Queen Winifred to hunt down Aeron and her band of miscreants, Orrin never dreamed he’d fall in love with the beautiful she pirate, or the kind, accepting people of her island hideaway. As they grow closer, Aeron reveals her jaded past with Queen Winifred to Orrin; he doesn’t hesitate to offer his help to bring Winifred’s evil reign to an end. Aeron and Orrin soon discover that the strongest weapon in their combined arsenal is the love they have for each other.

I have no clue what I was thinking when I started this book but it was nothing like I thought. It surprised me all the way around. I love the way the author didn’t tell all in the blurb like most do now days, so you get some great surprises in the story. Not only do you get one love story between the hero and heroine but you get an extra surprise with the hero’s brothers love affair.

Let me first state this story will not be for the faint of heart. Yes, it has its cruel moments and the author tells pretty much all of it. But you have to look at the title and wonder where it fits in and when you find out you might not like it one bit. I know I didn’t but I still found it brilliant and unexpected, even though I was cringing at the times.

The heroine Aeron is great. I love that she is a strong willed pirate that will slit anyone through that does wrong to people. Yep, she’s more of a robin hood to some ladies but with all that she has went thought I sure don’t blame her. Plus I loved that she get the right hero for her, Orrin. He’s one that will not break her spirit, he loves her just like she is, sword, scars and all.

One problem some will have is the characters all fall for each other very, very quickly without fuss. I didn’t mind it so much with everything else going on in the story. I will say this could have been easily made into two books and a lot of detail brought out that would have knocked some socks off. But since this is the first book by this author I am not going to harp on things because I am very much impressed and know she will expand more as she grows in writing.

I highly recommend this new author and book to anyone who likes historical romance and pirates.
