Omens, the first installment in Kelley Armstrong’s exciting new series, introduced Olivia Taylor-Jones, daughter of notorious serial killers, and Gabriel Walsh, the self-serving, morally ambiguous lawyer who became her unlikely ally. Together, they chased down a devious killer and partially cleared her parents of their horrifying crimes.

Their success, however, is short-lived. While Olivia takes refuge in the old, secluded town of Cainsville, Gabriel’s past mistakes have come to light, creating a rift between the pair just when she needs his help the most.

Olivia finds a dead woman in her car, dressed to look like her, but the body vanishes before anyone else sees it. Olivia’s convinced it’s another omen, a sign of impending danger. But then she learns that a troubled young woman went missing just days ago—the same woman Olivia found dead in her car. Someone has gone to great lengths to kill and leave this young woman as a warning. But why? And what role has her new home played in this disturbing murder?

Olivia’s effort to uncover the truth places her in the crosshairs of old and powerful forces, forces that have their own agenda, and closely guarded secrets they don’t want revealed.
Continuing the Cainsville series was a treat! Another " I don't wanna go to work, I just wanna finish this book." kind of book.

In Visions you get to learn a lot more about the mystery that surrounds Olivia and her parents. The town is still not quite clear to the reader if it's a helpful place or if going back there will bite her in the end. Things are getting more dangerous and more questions are popping up.

Can't wait to get my hands on the next one!

Nora hasn’t seen Clare for ten years. Not since Nora walked out of school one day and never went back.

In a dark, dark wood there was a dark, dark house

Until, out of the blue, an invitation to Clare’s bachelorette party arrives. Is this a chance for Nora to finally put her past behind her?

And in the dark, dark house there was a dark, dark room

But something goes wrong. Very wrong.

And in the dark, dark room…

Some things can’t stay secret forever.
I was slightly disappointed because, to me, it was rather predictable. You are still drawn into the story and  compelled to keep reading. It was hard to rate because of this. You want to know why Clare has been invited back into her friends' lives after all these years especially for such an intimate party.  The story has a lot of flashbacks but the end does not disappoint with a "AHHHHH No it makes sense!"  feeling of closure.

When Delilah Marlow visits a famous traveling carnival, Metzger's Menagerie, she is an ordinary woman in a not-quite-ordinary world. But under the macabre circus black-top, she discovers a fierce, sharp-clawed creature lurking just beneath her human veneer. Captured and put on exhibition, Delilah in her black swan burlesque costume is stripped of her worldly possessions, including her own name, as she's forced to "perform" in town after town.

But there is breathtaking beauty behind the seamy and grotesque reality of the carnival. Gallagher, her handler, is as kind as he is cryptic and strong. The other "attractions"—mermaids, minotaurs, gryphons and kelpies—are strange, yes, but they share a bond forged by the brutal realities of captivity. And as Delilah struggles for her freedom, and for her fellow menagerie, she'll discover a strength and a purpose she never knew existed.

Renowned author Rachel Vincent weaves an intoxicating blend of carnival magic and startling humanity in this intricately woven and powerful tale.

At first I really didn't think I would like this book. I'm not into the whole carnival thing. I LOVED IT! It really made you think about what if we really had mythological creatures among us? How would society handle it? You are transported beautifully by Vincent's words to this time and you can feel the empathy and rage almost pouring off the page.

It's a different kind of read which was refreshing and I am happy that there seems to be a series in the works.

While parked at a gas station, Rhonda sees something so incongruously surreal that at first she hardly recognizes it as a crime in progress. She watches, unmoving, as someone dressed in a rabbit costume kidnaps a young girl. Devastated over having done nothing, Rhonda joins the investigation. But the closer she comes to identifying the abductor, the nearer she gets to the troubling truth about another missing child: her best friend, Lizzy, who vanished years before.

From the author of the acclaimed Promise Not to Tell comes a chilling and mesmerizing tale of shattered innocence, guilt, and ultimate redemption.
Hmmmm...wasn't as impressed with this McMahon book but it is one of her earlier ones. It was still creepy with the whole kidnapping scenario. That's every parent's worst nightmare, but it still took me a good 70+ pages to get going and decide I needed to find out what happened to these missing children.

True to McMahon style though she delivers a twist and punch with the end you don't see coming.

As a part of the acclaimed DC Comics--The New 52 event of September 2011, writer and co-creator of the CW show "Supernatural" Adam Glass rolls out an all-new team of death-row super villains recruited by the government to take on missions so dangerous-they're sheer suicide.

The story begins with the Suicide Squad defeated, imprisoned and being interrogated about their newest mission. Harley Quinn, King Shark, Deadshot and company must make it out alive without revealing who's pulling the strings behind their illegal operations. Who will be the first to crack under the pressure? More importantly will they make it all out alive? Collects issues #1-7.

With the movie The Suicide Squad coming out in 2016, I wanted to read the graphic novel first. The book is supposed to be better than the movie, right? Marvel has had a pretty good following with getting their characters onto the big screen and I'm excited to see what DC can do.

The story begins with all the characters being thrown into a secret mission group where they basically must carry out illegal missions or die. They are baited with the prize of freedom if they continue to follow through. Unfortunately, nothing ever goes as easy as planned for the crew.

I am not a big graphic novel fan. The only character I was familiar with realy going into it was Harley Quinn. It gave some back story, so I feel safe in recommending it if you're new to the series.

For once, mated werewolves Charles and Anna are not traveling because of Charles’s role as his father’s enforcer. This time, their trip to Arizona is purely personal, as Charles plans to buy Anna a horse for her birthday. Or at least it starts out that way...

Charles and Anna soon discover that a dangerous Fae being is on the loose, replacing human children with simulacrums. The Fae’s cold war with humanity is about to heat up—and Charles and Anna are in the cross fire.

I have followed Charles and Anna from the beginning. The couple just needed a break. But if they got a break, we wouldn't have an action packed story to read now would we?

This Alpha and Omega did take me some time to get into. Once I was able to fall into the story I was happy to see that the couple hadn't changed but evolved. I love seeing the couple connect on a higher level. The story had a few new twists as well. There was a lot of action and it was fast paced. I had to re-read several times to make sure I didn't miss anything.

West Hall, Vermont, has always been a town of strange disappearances and old legends. The most mysterious is that of Sara Harrison Shea, who, in 1908, was found dead in the field behind her house just months after the tragic death of her daughter, Gertie. Now, in present day, nineteen-year-old Ruthie lives in Sara's farmhouse with her mother, Alice, and her younger sister, Fawn. Alice has always insisted that they live off the grid, a decision that suddenly proves perilous when Ruthie wakes up one morning to find that Alice has vanished without a trace. Searching for clues, she is startled to find a copy of Sara Harrison Shea's diary hidden beneath the floorboards of her mother's bedroom. As Ruthie gets sucked deeper into the mystery of Sara's fate, she discovers that she's not the only person who's desperately looking for someone that they've lost. But she may be the only one who can stop history from repeating itself.
This was the first of Jennifer McMahon I have ever read. It came highly recommended from a co-worker.

It took me all of 1 night, with the lights on, to finish this book! If you like spooky tales with A LOT of great twists you've got to try this! The family ties that bind this family to the land and to the tale are creative and well thought out. You really wonder are there legends and folk tales about this stuff.

This will not be the last of Jennifer McMahon's books I pick up. I'm eager to try another!

Twenty-four-year-old Olivia Taylor Jones has the perfect life. The only daughter of a wealthy, prominent Chicago family, she has an Ivy League education, pursues volunteerism and philanthropy, and is engaged to a handsome young tech firm CEO with political ambitions.

But Olivia’s world is shattered when she learns that she’s adopted. Her real parents? Todd and Pamela Larsen, notorious serial killers serving a life sentence. When the news brings a maelstrom of unwanted publicity to her adopted family and fiancé, Olivia decides to find out the truth about the Larsens.

Olivia ends up in the small town of Cainsville, Illinois, an old and cloistered community that takes a particular interest in both Olivia and her efforts to uncover her birth parents’ past.

Aided by her mother’s former lawyer, Gabriel Walsh, Olivia focuses on the Larsens’ last crime, the one her birth mother swears will prove their innocence. But as she and Gabriel start investigating the case, Olivia finds herself drawing on abilities that have remained hidden since her childhood, gifts that make her both a valuable addition to Cainsville and deeply vulnerable to unknown enemies. Because there are darker secrets behind her new home and powers lurking in the shadows that have their own plans for her.
I actually picked Omens up because I picked up the sequel, Visions first. Dragging myself back to the library mad because I thought I had stumbled upon a new series only to find out I was behind, I snatched Omens.

I have read Kelley Armstrong before, but haven't really stuck to any of her series. Apparently it's been a long, long time because reading this made me go bad and bookmark several I would like to read.

So, stop rambling....from the very beginning this story grabbed me. My 100 page rule need not apply here cause at page 5 I couldn't put it down. So much so my fiance was taking pictures of me stirring a pot of spaghetti with one hand and reading the book with the other. (He has never witnessed such a feat, but I'm sure other fellow readers have done similar. )

This is more of a mystery, as Olivia navigates the secrets of her past by visiting people in the town and her imprisoned mom, although it does have several supernatural elements and some strange things going on. You get that vibe you're along for the journey with Olivia. You want to know the truth as bad as she does!

Graduate student Lily Andrews resigned herself to a life of perpetual virginity. With her recent twisted appetites and weird fugues hospitalizing every would-be boyfriend, it's no wonder she uses her coursework as an excuse not to date.

Then, she meets a witch.

Joshua enters Lily's life to complete penance for a deadly spell cast centuries ago. Joshua must counter Lily's demon-wrought fugues with his own Wiccan magick, or lose her forever.

As the pivotal Wiccan holiday, Samhain, approaches, time is running out. Together, they must battle an ancient dark force, fighting for their lives and their new-found love...ANY WITCH WAY they can.

Lily has a huge problem with her libido.....she tends to black out into violent episodes should hers ever arise. Because of this she has given up on all things related to the male persuasion....until Joshua comes into her life.

Joshua is a special kind of witch that is hell bent on showing Lily that she is a weirdo~just cursed. And he is the key to helping her break that curse.

I was a fan of Newton's book Despite the Ghosts and  was just as pleased with Any Witch Way. I was very excited to read that she held was able to keep the truth in the craft while introducing Lily to it with a real world way of how some people take to the craft.

Avery well written novella and quick read. Lily is a real likable character yet Joshua seems to be stuck in time. There were moments when his dialogue came across old fashioned for me even for the storyline.

The world is not what Riley Kordek imagined. On the run from those who’ve targeted her, all Riley wants is a chance to figure out her new ability to bend metal's energy. When a hot guy who knows more than he should helps her escape her attackers, she thinks she might’ve found someone who can lead her to the answers she needs.

Three years ago, Sam Remington walked away from his employer and the woman he loved, and now, all he’s looking to do is fill the gaping hole left behind. Except, when Sam takes Riley to the Society for Goddess Education and Defense, the stakes rise beyond what either of them could have imagined.

After being alone for so long, falling for Sam would be far too easy—and far too painful, once his old flame calls needing his help. Worse, Riley uncovers a plot with disastrous ramifications not only for herself, but for Sam and the people he loves—and potentially every goddess in the country.

I seem to have a bad habit of choosing books for their covers, hee hee.
This book didn't leave me disappointed either so I must be having good luck with my strategy.  Being the second in a series, I have NOT ready the first in this either, the storyline could be a stand alone. It had a back story of the previous book but also followed up with enough that it didn't leave the reader hanging going : what the F just happened?!"
It took me a bit to warm up tot he Riley character. At first she seemed strong willed and the you learn she is really just winging it. Not knowing much at all about her powers except by trail and error,  she is smart enough to track down Sam.
Together they create a wonderful power couple in every sense of the word.
This book held me from the first chapter. The action was well placed and romantic tension well drawn out enough to clench your first.
I have a feeling Damschroder is going to be an author to keep an eye out for.

The conclusion to the League of Illusion trilogy

Five years ago, Sebastian Davenport tried to go back in time to reverse a fatal mistake, but found himself trapped in another reality. Unaware of the jeopardy facing his family and the League of Illusion, he gave up his magic for a quiet life as a blacksmith. Quiet, until a monstrous three-headed goddess of war called the morrigan comes to town…

Seeing Sebastian poised to charge the goddess, healer Drea Blairwood has no choice but to hit him over the head to stop him. Nursing the mysterious outsider back to health afterward is just an added benefit. She knows he's hiding something about his past, but has no idea what kind of adventure awaits them both.

Sebastian has no desire to risk the life of anyone else, let alone someone as enticing as Drea. But after militant elves kidnap Drea, Sebastian needs to find a way to reclaim his magic. The fate of the League—and the world—hangs in the balance

I have followed this series since the beginning when I first chose The Legacy based on it's cover ( yes, so shoot me).  I fell in love with the characters and the world that Vivi Anna created.

Following each brother and the women they fell in love with, they each have a special characteristic that will save the world from disaster.

In  the final book, Vivi  Anna has spared no expense in creativity in making the worlds collide and wrapping up the storyline. We find out exactly why Sebastian left finally and watching his magic return.

It wasn't my favorite in the steampunk series but it was a great way to round off the story.
