Cover Reveal: The Oath by Tara Fox Hall

Title: The Oath
Author: Tara Fox Hall
Release Date: November 13, 2014

Young widow, Sarelle McGarran, is in love with the vampire, Danial Racklan, the charismatic man that has transformed her life in only a few short months. But now Danial asks for more; an Oath, a promise a mortal gives her vampire lover to be his forever, a permanent joining that cannot be dissolved. But having lost a husband once, can Sar bring herself to give her promise once again?

Excerpt from The Oath:

I paused before the mirror. This was it, the moment I’d planned on telling him I would swear to be his. Like before, my uncertainties arose. I couldn’t ever leave him if I did. Not ever. Was I that sure?

Words my friend Kat had spoken earlier came back to me. Why haven’t you told him you’ll marry him? Are you crazy? You love him; he loves you; he’s rich; and he’s gorgeous! How can you even have to think about it?

I went to the bedroom door. Danial waited for me, the strong lines of his face relaxed in a happy smile as he studied the tree. His freshly cut hair feathered back except for a loose wave that fell over his forehead. I loved him so much my chest ached.

It was now or never, the perfect moment to pledge to be his forever. Kat was right; things weren’t going to get any better. If I didn’t do it, I’d wonder the rest of my life what it could have been like with him, what I missed out on by not taking the chance.

Cover Reveal: Eye of the Storm (Promise Me #10) by Tara Fox Hall

Title: Eye of the Storm (Promise Me #10)
Author: Tara Fox Hall
Release Date: September 17, 2014

Sar and Theo move on from Sar’s affair with Lash, struggling to build a new life with their werecougar son Devon. Rebuffed, Lash resumes his solitary existence, biding his time. Ulysses lurks in the shadows launching repeated attacks on his enemy Devlin, whose darker side emerges rampant in an effort to protect those he loves. The vampire Danial prepares his dhamphir son Theoron for manhood, even as Ulysses delivers a last crippling blow to Devlin in his relentless quest for revenge.

Excerpt from Eye of the Storm:

Lash stepped closer to me, his arms going around me.

“Don’t, please,” I said softly, my weak words so rife with need that I flushed.

“I’m not going to do anything but hug you,” Lash hissed in my ear. “I need to breathe in the scent of you to calm myself. I’m worried about tonight, about letting you go to that damn Hallows party with only Theo to protect you.”

I inhaled his familiar scent, closing my eyes. There came the gentle touch of his hand on the back of my head, gently pushing it against his shoulder as he stroked my hair.

“But there’s no way I can go with you, Danial would shit a brick.”

“I’ll be fine,” I said confidently, trying to step back. “Rip will be there—”

“Fucking demons can’t be trusted!” Lash hissed angrily. “Rip is not a fighter; he’s a sorcerer, like Titus. He’s not fast at all! You’re mortal, Sar! All it would take to kill you is one well-placed bullet!”

“Nothing’s going to happen,” I reiterated. “Devlin will be with me, Lash.”

“That’s the only reason I’m not crashing the party,” Lash hissed meaningfully. “I know he’ll stay close to you at all times, and he’ll keep you safe. Plus I have to watch Venus and Devon while you’re all out in your finest.”

I looked up into his flat eyes, their coldness giving nothing away. “Change back for me.”

Lash’s eyes reverted to their dark black-brown color in a split second, his fangs disappearing. “Why did you ask me to change back?” he said, tilting his head with a faint smile. “Are you remembering that night we—?”

Desire rose in me, mingled with sadness and longing. “I like to see your eyes. I like to look into them. I can see what you’re feeling in your human eyes the way I can’t in your snake ones.”

Lash’s dark brown eyes darkened, his expression changing from curiosity to abject craving. “Tell me I can kiss you,” he said sensuously, taking my face in his hands. “Just one kiss, Sar—”

I looked down at his lips inches away from mine, and ached to taste him, to feel his body against mine as he devoured me…

Stop. Right. Now.

Cover Reveal: Night Music by Tara Fox Hall

Title: Night Music
Author: Tara Fox Hall
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Release Date: June 4, 2014

Grieving Krys Markman has come to lose herself in family memories at Letchworth State Park, and try to figure out her next step. Yet the unearthly beautiful music she hears each night stirs her soul to romance. Can its creator, the attractive vampire David Helm, heal her broken heart?

Excerpt:

Krys sipped her wine flight, while looking around at her setting, marveling that so much was still the same, and still so beautiful. She’d been in these same surroundings so many times, yet they were still magical to her, even as their familiarity soothed her...

“Will you want dinner?” her waiter asked delicately. “Or would you like to try one of the wines you sampled?”

Where had the time gone? Krys had finished all three samples already. While another flight and more reminiscing sounded wonderful, it was better not to tempt fate, not when she had a hell of a climb in the dark to reach her rented house. “Yes.” She chose an entrée at random from the menu, then one of the wines she’d sampled.

As the waiter walked away, Krys noticed a tall man sitting by himself off in the corner. He was writing something by the light of the table candle. What was compelling was he was doing it in longhand in a small paper book instead of via electronic device. The act was so uncommon that she stared at him. Within a few seconds, the man raised his eyes and caught her staring, his dark eyes meeting hers. Krys immediately looked down, flushing. By the time she gathered enough courage to look up again, the man was gone, his seat empty.

The waiter came back, her wine on a tray. “We’re all out of the salmon, Ma’am,” he said apologetically. “Would you like to choose something else?”

The only craving Krys had was to find out who that handsome man had been. Food could wait. “There was a man sitting out here. Do you know who he was?”

The waiter shifted uneasily. “We’re not allowed to give out information on guests, Ma’am. Sorry.”

“So he is staying here?” Krys said hopefully. “Will he be here a few more days?”

The waited leaned down slightly, his expression secretive. “Aren’t you staying for a few days in Caroline’s Cottage?”

“Yes,” she answered conspiratorially.

“Then I’d advise you to get to know your neighbor during your stay,” the waiter said meaningfully.

Krys looked at him in puzzlement. “What?”

The waiter straightened, then set down her glass of wine. “Will you have another entrée, Ma’am?” Comprehension dawned. “No,” Krys said, hastily grabbing her purse. “Put my drinks on my bill.”

Author: Tara Fox Hall
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Release Date: May 28, 2014

Excerpt:

“Ready to go?” Titus said gently. Then he saw me with the knife.

As I looked into his eyes, I suddenly understood he both knew what this meant, and that he was not happy about my present. My foreboding deepened. “What is this?”

“It was time, Sarelle,” Titus said. “He left a week ago. Devlin thinks he went out on a job, that he’s coming back later tonight.”

I knew exactly what he was talking about: Lash’s death. My apprehension became panic. “Why?” I asked loudly. “Lash said he had years left! Years!”

“More like months,” Titus said, his red eyes holding mine. “And that was months ago.”

It all came together for me at once. This was why Lash had asked me to go back to Devlin. He’d known he was dying, and he’d wanted Devlin to have someone who loved him so he wouldn’t be alone, or get into too much trouble. This was why he had talked about family, and that it meant something to him. This was why he hadn’t cared if he’d died saving us, because he was going to be dead soon anyway. Why he had warned me to be careful, if Dev and I went out again, because if it happened again, he wouldn’t be around to save us. Why he and I had gone out for sushi that night, but he hadn’t eaten much. He hadn’t been feeling like hibernating, he’d been getting ready to die. And he’d asked me to come those extra days to Hayden because he’d wanted to spend some extra time with me, lying together in the sun as we had those months ago and talking to maybe the only person in his life who shared his taste in movies.

“But I saw him! I talked to him! He was fine!” I screamed hysterically.

“He got a wound on a job he did a few weeks ago,” Titus rumbled. “Some were bit him. It wasn’t bad, and I healed what would heal, but it turned septic anyway. His immune system is shot, and had been for a while—”

Had it been Satar who’d bit Lash? Something told me it had been. My hysteria went up another notch. “No, he was fine!” I shouted. “He saved me, saved Devlin! He carried him—!”

“He collapsed when he got back to Hayden,” Titus rumbled, his red eyes smoldering. “Saving Devlin and you took everything he had left. He spent these past two weeks recovering enough strength to go wherever it is he went.”

That day I’d seen Lash reading with the blankets. He hadn’t moved, and his body had been mostly covered. I’d thought he had just been cold…

I closed my eyes, fighting tears. “But why not stay here with Dev? Why go off alone?” I shouted. “Who wants to die alone?”

“He did,” Titus said, his deep voice agitated now. “And it was his choice.”

Fury rapidly replaced anguish. “He only made that choice because you didn’t tell him about my blood! That a massive infusion of it might work, might save him!”

“Devlin would never risk you, not even for Lash,” Titus said harshly. “He’d need to take all of it, Sarelle. You’d die saving him. And there’s no guarantee it would even work.”

This couldn’t be happening. Fate couldn’t be that cruel, that Lash could save us but not himself. That he was going to die alone, without his loved ones near him, after all the good he had done. But fate was that cruel. I’d seen it firsthand, when a freak accident had left me a widow. I’d seen it later, in the years I’d spent apart from Theo, thinking he was dead. I’d seen it in the tears Danial had cried, all those times now I’d left him.

Lash had saved us. This time he needed someone else to save him. And I’d be damned if I stayed here, knowing all this, and didn’t at least try.

Cover Reveal: Lost Paradise by Tara Fox Hall

Title: Lost Paradise (Promise Me #8)
Author: Tara Fox Hall
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Release Date: March 24, 2014

While the vampire Devlin rejoices at news of his impending progeny with Sar, werecougar Theo braces for more challenges to his Ranked title, content that after Sarelle has the dhamphir child Devlin will be out of their lives forever. Yet when The Lust reappears, Sar’s world again turns upside down as old hatreds make themselves known, resulting in a steamy affair with the weresnake Lash, a new friendship with the werecoyote Serena, and the severing of Sar from the last remains of her old human life in favor of a new Paradise with Devlin.

Excerpt:

Devlin skimmed the papers, then slowly looked down at me. “Is he sure?” he said joyously. “There’s no mistake?”

“Yes,” I said happily. “You’re going to be a father.”
Devlin hugged me tightly, then lifted me in the air as he whirled me around a few times, laughing, smiling radiantly.
“Congratulations,” Lash said, giving him a wide smile.
Devlin hugged him fiercely. “We have to celebrate,” Devlin said, turning from Lash to me. “Let’s go out!”
“Davy’s?” Lash suggested.
Devlin looked at him, then said carefully, “Do you mind?”
“Cin has left the state,” Lash said with a shrug. “I don’t mind.”
I looked at the floor uncomfortably. Cin had been a weresnake waitress at Davy’s, and Lash’s lover. Their breakup had been precipitated by his one liaison with me, which had led to his discovery of Cin’s unfaithfulness to him through sordid means that had affected me. He and I had never talked of it, after his apology...

Don’t think about that.

“Davy’s it is.” Devlin turned back to me. “Does Danial know?”

I forced a smile. “You’re the first to know,” I said warmly, hugging him again. “I came straight here from Dr. Camlyn’s. No one else knows except Serena and Lash.”

“Good!” Devlin shouted with glee. “I want to be the one to tell him.” He pulled me close, then lovingly sang, “Here is all I need!”

“A book of verses underneath the bough,
A jug of wine, a loaf of bread, and Thou,
Beside me singing in the Wilderness,
Oh, such a Wilderness would be Paradise now!”
I gave him a giddy smile, happy that he was so happy. “Your own creation, Dev?”

He shook his head. “From the Rubaiyat.” He offered his arm. “Come, Sar. This night will be filled with many songs, all of them in your honor.”

Cover Reveal: Point of No Return by Tara Fox Hall

Title: Point of No Return (Promise Me Series #7)
Author: Tara Fox Hall
Publication Date: February 2014
Publisher (Indie): Melange Books

When Sarelle discovers Theo's love for Tasha is not all it seems, she breaks the spell, even as she fears the consequences. Dreaming with Theo again awakens old feelings, even as Devlin’s possessiveness increases when Sar is discovered to be pregnant. Influenced by her blood bond to Devlin and Danial, and her magical bond with Theo, Sar is determined to make the relationship with her lovers work. But can Sar trust her heart fully, much less her own desires?

Excerpt from Point of No Return:
Lash stood there waiting in the doorway, his eyes as flat as ever, his forked tongue flicking angrily.  He was dressed warmly all in black, save for a blood red scarf at his neck.

"What do you want?" Theo said gruffly.

"Sarelle," Lash hissed angrily, drawing out my name in a long sinuous sound.  "Devlin wants her at Hayden."

"I'm here," I said, trying to slide past Theo.  "I'm ready."

Theo blocked me, eyeing me frostily.  "No one said anything to me about it," he said stonily.

"No one need tell you anything, Cat," Lash hissed.  "You have no say."

"I have a say in Danial's property," Theo growled.  "I need to check with Danial before I let her leave."

"Then go check," Lash said baring his fangs.  "I'll wait inside."

"You'll wait outside," Theo said, and slammed the door in his face.

"Theo, he's right -"

Theo grabbed a hold of my arm and hauled me into Danial's bedroom door.  "Danial" Theo said, pounding on the door loudly.  "Lash is here.  He said he's here for Sar."

Danial came to the door dressed.  "Theo, it's okay," he said calmly.  "It was good of you to check, but I knew Sar was headed to Hayden tonight.  Let her leave."

"You're just going to let her go to him?" Theo said, his tone dagger-filled.  "I can smell that you were just together."

Danial gave him a slow smile of gratification.  "Devlin has rights to Sar now, just as I do, whether you like it or not.  She'll often leave one of us to go to the other, something that doesn't invoke my jealousy, as it's given under our Oath.  Reconcile yourself to this situation, or leave my employ."

"As soon as the ranking's settled, I probably will," Theo replied curtly.  "And I'll be taking Elle with me."

Danial's eyes flashed red.  "We've been over this.  If you want to leave with your woman, you're free to go.  But Elle is staying here."

"Then stop the digs," Theo shot back.  "None of us planned how this all worked out.  Elle is my daughter.  If you want her to stay here, then we need to work together."  He glanced over at me, then back to Danial.  "I don't want to see anyone hurt."

"He isn't going to hurt her," Danial said patiently.  "He loves her."

"Devlin loves nothing but himself, and you now it," Theo growled.

Danial gave me a gentle kiss.  "Have a good time.  Call tomorrow from Dev's, and tell me when I can expect you to return.  If it's a few days or more, that's no problem.  I'm neck deep in cases."

"I will," I said uneasily.

Danial nodded, then went back into his bedroom.

"You must have worn him out," Theo said sarcastically.  "He's right about his work -"

I tried to push past him.  He blocked me.

"Let me past, Theo."

"Sar, don't do this," Theo said, grabbling my arm.  "He'll hurt you without Danial there to mediate -"

"I've been alone with him before," I said meaningfully.  "He didn't do anything to me I didn't want.

"Didn't he?"  Theo said just as meaningfully.  "Give him time.  He will."

"It's really not your business anymore, is it?"  I said mockingly.  "Why does it matter to you, anyway?"

The door suddenly banged open.  Lash glared at the both of us with his flat eyes as he walked in.

"You brok the lock," Theo bitched.

Lash threw some money on the floor.  "We are late already, Sarelle," he hissed.  "Get moving. Now."

Everything happened at once.  I went to move past Theo, he put out his hand to stop me, and something slid through the air with a sharp crack.  Theo went rigid, grabbing at his neck, choking, his eyes bulging, the end of Lash's whip tight around his throat.

Weresnake Lash searches for revenge on the demon Hex, whose treachery years ago led to the death of Lash's best friend and former employer, the vampire Abraham Hamilton.  With the help of old friends like Dieter, Devlin, and Shaker, and new friends Morwen, Outlaw, and Mather, Lash goes up against a horde of demons and other magical enemies in pursuit of vengeance on Hex.  In the process, Lash learns new unsettling facts about Abraham, following the twisting trail fo clues to the small town of Malone to unearth a secret horror long buried and solve the mysterious riddle of Hex's hate for Abraham.  But more than one nemesis is hot on Lash's trail, looking for ultimate payback of theri own...

Excerpt:
I’d taken the night before to go over what I knew. Abraham had come from out West before he’d been turned and settled in New Orleans as its Vampire Ruler. He’d reigned there for something like fifty years or so before our paths had crossed. To look into his past, I’d need the addresses that were on his letters to his wife, and hers to him. That wasn’t much to go on, but it was a start, especially as it was likely I’d need to go out there to see what I could dig up about his old enemies. While I believed that I knew the reasons Abraham had been killed and who was responsible, I was taking nothing at face value. Before I killed anyone in revenge, I wanted to make sure I had the right son of a bitch. While I favored a Hellspawn for the crime, if he’d had other helpers, I wanted to make them pay, too.

The demon that had given Valerian and Ramirez the key to invading Hill House had given me his name once, the day he’d interviewed with Abraham for a job and been rejected: Shaker. But after meeting the real Shaker years later, I’d known the other to be an imposter. Not that I believed the bullshit Titus, Shaker’s brother, had once tried to feed me about Shaker not being able to change his shape. That was a flat out lie, as I’d seen Shaker wear more than one glamour in the years I’d known him. No, it was simply that Shaker was far too protective of Titus to endanger his brother by pissing on the vampire elite—Abraham had been one of Devlin’s personal turns—not to mention flat out powerful. The demon that had let Abraham die had been low level: a scavenger, not a player. But that might have changed in the years I’d been at war. He might have become allied with someone powerful, or he might even be dead. But he held the key to the truth, and he was where I’d start.

I was waiting patiently in line, thinking about if I should withdraw 2K instead of 1K, when a shot rang out behind me. I whipped around, hand already reaching for my gun as I dropped to the floor. Then I cursed to see the human foursome with guns at the ready.

Fuck no. Please let it not be a…

“This is a robbery,” the lead man shouted, again firing into the air. “Put your hands up! Everyone get down on the floor!”

I was not putting my hands up. However, I also could not afford the attention killing these fucks would give me. As I hesitated, I was given the perfect excuse. The portly woman ahead of me in line fainted with a little cry of excitement. I caught her, then used her body as a cover to draw my gun.

This was none of my business. But if these fucks made it my business, they were going to regret it.

Excerpt:
The clock chimed eleven. Worried, I glanced outside, wondering if Aran would call to cancel. He’d said he’d be going by on an errand for Cia, but the sky was dull white now. The impending storm forecasted for noon might begin at any moment.

There was no sign of him.

We were supposed to get a foot or more, something that irritated me. We’d gotten three feet so far this season. With no warm days to melt any of it, the drifts were huge, surrounding the plowed driveway like tall mountains.

I let out a yawn, blinking my eyes. With the completion of the cookies, despite my eagerness earlier, my utmost desire was a long nap under a warm blanket. Grinning, I made a deal with myself that as soon as the snow flew, the couch was where I was headed. Until then, I needed to keep on track. I hurriedly did some light cleaning and laundry. I was just putting the vacuum cleaner away when the clock chimed twelve.

I cast a look outside. Snowflakes had begun to fall. Soon, they were falling fast and furiously, obscuring my view of the barn.

“C’mon, Aran,” I said, scanning the drive. “You don’t get here shortly, I’m walking down those cookies to the mailbox and you can eat them frozen.”

All of a sudden, the snow-dampened roar of a motorcycle was heard in the silence. Aran drove down the driveway, his lone headlight catching the snowflakes in its circular light as they fell. He was dressed in his usual black leather.

“You’re crazy,” I muttered, throwing cookies into a plastic bag quickly. “Maybe werefoxes don’t get as cold as normal humans did, but you still have to be cold in that.” I closed the bag, then headed for the front door. “At least it’s something between you and the pavement.”

Aran pulled up in front of the deck and parked the bike, but didn’t turn it off. He faced the house for a moment. As I opened the door, he gestured around him, then pointed to my house.

I opened the door and yelled to him, “Sure, you can stay ‘til it stops. I’m glad of the company. Go to the bottom garage, I’ll let you in!”

He nodded, the visor of his helmet and his shoulders already covered in snow. He drove on as I shut the front door and ran downstairs. Pressing the button, I raised the overhead door and he drove in.

Shivering in the cold blast from the door, I quickly shut it as he parked his Harley and shut off the engine. He began brushing the snow off himself.

“Why’d you bring the bike today of all days?” I said, giving him a sarcastic smile. “I told you it was going to storm. Now you’re stuck here. Cia’s not going to be happy.”

Aran got off his bike and continued to brush him and it off, melting snow creating puddles on the concrete floor.

“Why don’t you give me your coat, and I’ll put it near the fire. If you want, we can watch a movie or something. I was planning to head to the couch any—”

Aran unbuckled his helmet and in one smooth motion pulled it off his head. Gold curls and waves fell almost to his shoulders.

This was not Aran.

This was Devlin.

He stepped off the bike, and came toward me. I was lost from the moment I looked into his golden eyes.

Excerpt:
Now we were getting somewhere.  "Explain this, Quentin, as I'll need to know.  What are the rules in this city, besides no killing?"
"Not many.  Don't kill humans, unless they attack you, even then, make it look accidental murder by stealing from them.  Don't trouble the richer citizens at all, not for any reason.  Don't bother the other supernatural citizens -"
"Who?"
"The sorcerers and witches, the goblins and the faeries," he said, bored.  "There is also a family of werevultures that inhabit this town, near the edge.  Them, too."
Werevultures?  Was he kidding?  "So there are no werewolves?"
"As a rule, not here in the cities, though there are sometimes one or two that pass through," he said with something like relief.  "I've heard they stick to the countryside.  Most weres do, as it's easier to blend in there."
Weres, he called them.  Hmm.  "What are they life?"
"The ones I've talked to say they miss the forest, or the water, or their caves -"
"Caves?"
"Werebats, mostly.  They are the most prevalent werecreature around these parts.  There is a large colony near the river."
"Are they off limits?"
Quentin took a deep breath.  "I'm glad you brought his up.  Technically, no, they aren't.  They have an agreement guy Guy, the City's Lord, to stay out of the city, and he leaves them alone.  But some stupid vampire hunter attacked them last week, killing a bunch of their women and children when he mistook them for vampires.  It happens often, I'm afraid.  The other were-bats killed him, but they're raging right now.  They are killing any vampire they can, primarily ones they find alone, in retaliation."  He looked over at me.  "It's them I need you to guard me against."
"Won't that die down quickly, though?  Surely the bats can be made to see it was not our fault?"
"Guy is not diplomatic," Quentin said with a sign.  "Things are going to get worse before they get better.  Besides, at heart, he's a coward.  He knows that there are more of them than there are of us, enough so it's close to three on one in their favor.  Because of those odds, he will not make them stop.  This has happened before, Devlin.  The attacks will continue until the bats feel they've taken enough blood back."
I thought about that.  There was a huge opportunity here for not just the means to support Anna and myself, but to gain real power.  Still, I needed to understand much about this world and this city before I'd be ready to proclaim myself king of it.

Excerpt:
"Don't ask any questions," I said coldly.  "Just meet us here before your next mission."

"That is tomorrow," Dietrik hissed back at me, his own fangs growing in anger.  "There is no rotation of crews."

"Watch your Tempter," I cautioned, another evil smile gracing my lips.  "The snake will come out of you with any strong emotion.  And that includes sexual release."

His jaw worked, but to my grudging respect, he contained the transformation this time.  "Thank you for the warning."  He put on his hat, then holstered his gun.  "I'll send a car for you."  He strode out.

I'd either engineered our escape or sealed our doom.  I went upstairs to Evans, praying he was asleep.

"I can't believe you turned him," Evans hissed to me the next morning as we waited for the car.  "You realize he can now make his whole crew snake, right?"

"Being snake doesn't save you from drowning," I hissed back, remembering my mother's warning long ago.  "We're not immortals.  You were done for if I hadn't save you.  We're both done for it we done for if we don't get out of here.  Now shut up."

After the car's arrival at the shoreline, we were blindfolded, then taken to the underground bunker where the U-boats were docked.  After boarding, we were left alone in a small room, the only sound the whine of the boat's engines.  I could feel the pressure as we dived and resurfaced, but that was about all.  Evan's constant hissing and bitching drowned out all other noise.

Hours later, we were taken to the deck of the U-boat and our blindfolds were removed.  Dietrik was there in front of us alone, waiting.

"You are AWOL, Lash," he said softly.  "You're wanted for questioning in the disappearance of another officer as well."

He was no match for me, not newly turned as he was.  "Yes," I replied, then stared at him, waiting for him to make a move.

Characterfest interview #18 with Theo and Tara Fox Hall

A huge THANK YOU to Bitten by Paranormal Romance for having me here today at Characterfest!
Here with us today to answer a few questions is Theo O’Connor of Tara Fox Hall’s Promise Me series.

THEO: Before we begin, I would appreciate you keeping the questions aimed toward me, not my employer, Danial Racklan.

Q: In your relationships with others, Theo, how are you different with family than you are with friends? Why?

THEO: I lost my family when I was attacked and turned into a werecougar in Adirondack State Park close to ten years ago. I don’t have any other family now, other than Danial, and some of his other bodyguards, who are my good friends.

THEO: I trust no one besides Danial, and the other guards he’s had for a few years. In my experience, you can’t trust someone you don’t know, and you can’t really know someone you just met. First impressions are useful, yes. I can always tell what new hires we have that are going to be long term, and which aren’t going to be able to take the constant violence that being a vampire’s guard entails. I’m not as disposed to trust as I used to be. Trust has to be earned.
