Characterfest interview #25 with Dante by Jae Lynne Davies

Please welcome Dante and Jae Lynn Davies

Everything’s Better with Fangs
**WARNING…This interview contains spoilers from Mythic and Blood Moon**

Hey everyone!
Thanks for joining me today. I’m Jae Lynne Davies, author of paranormal romance and urban fantasy. I’m thrilled to be a part of Characterfest this year and want to thank the lovely, Laurie for having me. Today, I’m shining the spotlight on Dante Diakos, the leading man from my latest release, Blood Moon (book 2 in the Mythic series).

Let me begin by giving you a brief description of the series and the respective installments.

Mythic is the story of human/vampire hybrid, Gianna Marino and her quest for vengeance against vampire, Mattias Vitale for the death of her parents over two hundred years earlier. She locates her target in London, heading a vampire coven and a rather prolific underground nightlife.

Gianna poses as human with a desire to be turned by Mattias, but she enters into more than she bargained for when she finds herself attracted to the very man who took everything from her. Then vampire, Nicholas Sutton enters the scene with an agenda of his own and becomes a part of Gianna’s dangerous and seductive plans. But when Gianna learns a secret that could ultimately change the course of her existence, she has a rather large decision to make. Which side will she choose?

Blood Moon (the second novel in the Mythic series) continues along the journey of human/vampire hybrid, Gianna Marino. Gianna makes a deal with the devil in the form of smoldering hot, vampire coven leader, Mattias Vitale and agrees to return to London with him, so long as he abides by her terms.
Gianna and Mattias have a complicated relationship that seems to be budding into something more than she planned, especially when her heart belongs to another man. While Mattias declares his love for the hybrid, she’s not so sure of what she feels besides betrayal and blackmail.

Gianna Marino is a human/vampire hybrid who is fueled by her thirst for vengeance for the murder of her family, and has little tolerance for distractions. While at a constant war with the two halves of herself, in a world in which she doesn’t belong, and tormented by a past that she hardly remembers, she vows to punish Mattias Vitale—the vampire responsible.

But during her infiltration of his coven, posing as a human with the desire to be turned, her game of seduction with Mattias creates a burning and mutual desire, when Nicholas Sutton—a dark and handsome stranger, intrudes on their play, threatening to expose her with an agenda of his own. One man is sexy and dangerous, the other is powerful and deadly. Both are vampires that want nothing more than to ravish her senseless, claiming her for themselves in a bond of body and blood, while she longs to kill one and bed—them both.

Would you tell us a little about yourself?

Hi, I’m Jae Lynne. I’m a wife to a wonderful, supportive husband and a mother to two young children. I have two rambunctious dogs. I love perfume (recently discovered while cleaning out a bathroom cabinet), and I love, LOVE Vampires!
During the day, I work in the spontaneous industry of mortgage lending. At night, I wander about in my own paranormal playground where I create a world of memorable characters and sizzling scenes.
When I’m not playing in my personal fantasy world, I can often be found cooking, tackling a new craft, or spending quality time with my family.

Who or what inspired you to write?

I’ve always enjoyed writing. Not necessarily as a career, but for pure enjoyment and escape. Now, I have my own story to tell that I wanted to share with the world. I draw inspiration from a variety of outlets. There could be something as small as watching the mannerisms of a couple walking at the mall, a story told by a co-worker, a breathtaking photo. The muse works in mysterious ways. I just always try to have something to write on when inspiration strikes.

What are some of your favorite author’s and some of your favorite books you’ve read?

My favorite authors and their respective novels/series are:
Sherrilyn Kenyon – I love her Dark-Hunter series.
Joey W. Hill – I can’t get enough of the Vampire Queen series. I think I’ve read Beloved Vampire so many times, the pages are starting to wear.
Larissa Ione – The Demonica series…Amazing!
Sharon Page – I continue to enjoy her Blood series.

Would you please tell those who haven’t heard about your book Mythic a little about it?

Centuries after the death of her family, human/vampire hybrid, Gianna Marino is determined to shed the blood of the vampire responsible.
Disguising herself as a human wanting to be turned, she infiltrates the enemy’s coven with the hope of bending him to her will and destroying him from the inside.
But when a handsome stranger enters the scene and is lured into their seductive game that results in a heated love triangle, she discovers a secret that blurs the lines between good and evil, forever changing the course of her existence, and destiny will soon determine on which side she’ll stand.

Would you tell us a little about your heroine and how she became Mythic?

Gianna’s hybrid race is the product of a vampire father and human mother. Possessing such unique DNA makes her different on a variety of levels. Physically, she appears human. She walks in daylight, consumes human food, and has a pulse. She has all of the vampire strengths and none of their weaknesses, and even possesses a powerful ability. These things make her the ultimate predator, an advantage over the vampire.  In the vampire world, the hybrid race is believed to exist only in myth—much like the existence of mermaids or a unicorn. The vamps in my story consider humanity a weakness, allowing their emotions to get the better of them. But, in a world of vampires, humanity could prove to be Gianna’s ultimate strength.

I have to admit I am a HEA closer person that doesn’t like love triangles. Can you describe something about you book to appeal to a person like me who doesn’t care for that type of book?

I find that some of the greatest loves are those in tales that are more of a journey. The characters need to experience a number of difficult choices and torturous emotions. For example, loss, anger, regret, pain, and love. Sometimes, to make the relationship believable, the story simply cannot be told in one book.  This is what I’ve set in motion for Gianna and her suitors. In the Mythic series, I hover the fine line between the Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy genres, because there is a bigger story in motion. You want vampires, intensity, steamy loves scenes, and a good story with a few twists? I promise to give you a fun ride!

OMG! I just have to ask this one. Most people won’t take to Mattias right off the bat because of him being so bad. Would you please describe the appeal about Mattias, so others can overlook his bad side?

Oh, Mattias. It’s going to be difficult not to plead his case (LOL). Mattias Vitale has to be one of the most complex characters I’ve ever written. He makes being bad look so good. The leader of London’s vampire coven, he has a secured position of power that makes him difficult to challenge. His utter presence is smoldering and he barely needs to speak a work to convey his point.
On the surface, he’s cold, selfish and a little evil. But, every action he takes has a deeper meaning. The question is, are his intentions genuine? Does he possess redeemable qualities? I’ll let the reader decide.

With this story being a love triangle, will the love triangle continue on in the next book?
Without spoiling the story for those who haven’t read, Gianna’s journey isn’t over and both Nicholas and Mattias will be constants in her life. In fact, it’s just the beginning. But, book two will lead to self discovery and allow her to mature in ways she never thought possible. She has a little bit of a problem (one of them being Dante—Mattias’s second in command), things she needs to sort out, issues that need to be dealt with. But I can promise you this…There WILL be an HEA for Gianna…eventually.

Would you tell us a little of what you’re working on next?
Sure! My next release, The Contract (unrelated to the Mythic series), will be available on May 15th. It’s a short story being published in volume five of Tease Publishing's ongoing anthology, Love's Immortal Pantheon. The story is an Urban Fantasy featuring the Roman goddess, Diana as a bad-ass heroine.
Blurb: The goddess of the hunt carries an entirely different meaning in Diana’s world.
A contract assassin for her father Jupiter, the Roman deity traded her traditional gowns for a crossbow and vowed to fulfill her duties by eliminating anyone who threatened the pantheon.
When she receives a contract to kill the sexy Cole Hunter—the heir to an artifact that could expose the existence of her people, she willingly sets out to meet her two week deadline and deliver Jupiter the man’s heart as proof of her success.
But when she grows close to her target, the heat between the two ignites. Diana develops feelings she’s never experienced and is faced with the decision to give Jupiter the human’s heart, or give Cole hers. The race is on to protect him from Jupiter’s wrath, before she loses him forever.

Hold on to your seats! I’m also working on Blood Moon, the second novel in the Mythic series.
Blood Moon is the story of Dante—a secondary character in my current novel, Mythic. The story will also continue to focus on the journey of vampire hybrid heroine, Gianna Marino.
Blurb: When word is received of suspicious vampire activity, Gianna Marino heads to Greece, where she discovers Dante—Mattias Vitale’s recently resigned second in command, and a dangerous prophecy.
For Dante Diakos is the last of a pure immortal bloodline—a descendant of the gods, and he intends to invoke the power of the entire pantheon on the eve of the Blood Moon which occurs once every millennia. If he attains the legendary abilities, he’ll be the most powerful being on earth, and plans for her to rule by his side.

Mythic is a love triangle reader’s paradise. This book is not my typical read. I stick with romance that has HEA’S closer at the end. I had a reviewer take this book to review, but she ended up not liking it and couldn’t finish it. So it was up to me to do it. I really didn’t want to read this book because I hate love triangles. Why I hate love triangles? Because I am always rooting for one guy and then the other and it ends up in a heartbreak that I can’t stand… Why can’t the girl have both? I mean come on who can choose between two great guys UGH. So, I wasted a whole morning trying to avoid my duty in reading this book. When I finally got around to reading it I found the first of the book very interesting and different, I had to keep reading. Then I found the author added an interesting twist and turns to the story, which I found simply marvelous by the way. I had to keep reading, then the author added a lot of hot sex, so you know I had to keep reading then;) Oh my, maybe it isn’t as bad as I thought it would be and I kept going…. I ended up enjoying the characters, I didn’t at first think I would like hard core bad butt Mattais, but I ended up liking him the most. I also liked Nicholas he was sweet, see I can’t make up my mind ugh. Anyhow, I did end up liking the book a lot more than I thought as some of you can tell because I would normal rate a book like this a 1 or a 2. 3 so that’s saying a lot for me. I would even love to keep reading this if I knew that Gianna would stick with Mattais, but the way it reads now she probably won’t. This book does carry a HEA, but it could change in the next book.

What I didn’t really care for was the heroine Gianna. Every guy wants to have sex with her that drove me crazy. She ends up with of course, sleeping with Mattais and Nicholas. But there’s two others that want in her pants and does try it. But some of you may find this lady really lucky LOL.

Would I recommend this book? Yes, I would to anyone who loves these love triangles. With the action, twist and turns and the hot sex in this story it would be paradise to someone that loves these stories.
