Gabrielle Bisset Sons of Navarus Paranormal Fall Fling blog tour kick off!

Thanks so much to Laurie and all the bloggers here at Bitten By Paranormal Romance for having me here to celebrate the release of the third book in the Sons of Navarus series, Blood Spirit! And the celebration doesn't stop until the last day of October. Until October 31, the Blood Spirit/Sons of Navarus Paranormal Fall Fling giveaway has weekly prizes along with grand prizes of gift cards, ebooks, and cool Sons of Navarus swag at the end of the fling. Be sure to keep reading after the post for details on how to enter!

Blood Spirit is the third book in the Sons of Navarus series and continues the story from the first two, Blood Avenged and Blood Betrayed. When I began brainstorming for this series, I decided that this wouldn't be one of those series where each book is a stand alone. I have a series of novellas like that, but I wanted this series' story to be bigger. So readers are introduced to the first Son, Vasilije, in Blood Avenged and very gently eased into the non-romantic plotline of a vampire civil war between the Sons of Navarus and the Archons. At the end of Blood Avenged, readers meet the rest of the Sons and it all begins.

In the second book, Blood Betrayed, readers meet Saint, another Son, and learn more about the Archons, the law and order vampires who want to take over the vampire world and mold it into their very sterile and cruel likeness. Each book in the series features the love story of one of the Sons but continues the series' plot.

Guest romance author Angie Fox and Giveaway!

Please welcome romance author Angie Fox!

Thanks for having me on the blog today. I’m going to be talking about something that I think is important to writing paranormals (one thing that we authors always seem to resist) and that is stepping outside the comfort zone.

It’s tough for me personally because there are so many things that can trip me up and twist me around while writing a book. Adding another element to the mix doesn’t always seem like the wise thing to do! But, it’s exactly what I know I need to do in order to keep readers guessing and coming back for more.

Of course, that doesn’t mean we writers aren’t allowed moments of panic during our enlightenment. For example, I sold a new series about a group of paranormal MASH doctors during a great supernatural war. I was all excited because Immortally Yours is a departure from the books I’ve written before. It has more of an edge.

And then…panic. I remember calling one of my writer friends about a week after I’d sold the book and asking her, “What did I just do? I told them I could write a book about an immortal war. I write funny. How am I supposed to pull this off?”

Once she calmed me down, and talked me into a bit of therapeutic chocolate (thank you, Kristin), I realized that the underlying drama of war could serve to bring the oddball personalities in the MASH camp together. These doctors and nurses don’t have much, but they do manage to find ways to save their sanity and create the kind of relationships that offer a port in the storm.

It forced me to grow as a writer, to push the story to places I’d never gone before. Yes, it was scary, but it was really cool too.

Guest romance author Sara Daniel

Please welcome romance author Sara Daniel!

Thanks for having me here today. I’m Sara Daniel, and I’m excited to talk about the magical, paranormal world where the Wiccan Haus series is set.

The Wiccan Haus intrigued me from the moment I heard Musa Publishing was developing a magical world that was open to submissions. When I saw the cover for the first book in the series, I couldn’t look away from the intense, rugged hero. I bought my copy of Shifting Hearts by Dominique Eastwick as soon as it was available and read it that night. I fell in love with the quirky cast of characters that inhabited this island off the coast of Maine, accessible only by a single ferry boat a week.

The world building is consistent between each book in the series. The island is run by four siblings, each with unique powers and fascinating personalities. The rest of the cast of continuing characters are just as quirky and memorable. I fell in love with each one as they took turns pushing my wounded military hero and his ex-girlfriend to grow, heal, and recognize their love for each other.

Best of all, I get to revisit the inhabitants and their quirks when I read Kate Richards’ An Apple Away and Dominique Eastwick’s Siren’s Serenade!

He has nothing left to offer. She's determined to show him just how much he's worth.

Shot by a member of his military team, Justin Lawson retreats to the Wiccan Haus. Holly Walters refuses to accept her boyfriend's out-of-the-blue rejection without an explanation, even if getting the answers forces her to be trapped on a bizarre island for an entire week. She's going to use every minute to work Justin out of her system once and for all. Justin's body and spirit begin to heal under Holly's loving ministrations. As she talks about never seeing each other again, he realizes he never wants to let her go. But the rogue assassin who had gone after Justin before is after him again. Before he can fight to make Holly believe in their love, he'll have to fight for both their lives.

Excerpt:

“How did you hurt your knee?” Holly asked.

“Occupational hazard,” Justin muttered.

That wasn’t very comforting, considering he was in the military and always going off on missions that he couldn’t give her any details about. “Did you fall and break it?”

“Bullet shattered it.” His words were clipped.

She flinched, wanting desperately to reach for him, hating to think of the pain he’d been in, the pain she’d known nothing about. “And how long before or after this happened did you send me an eight word break-up text?”

“About seventy-two hours after.”

She immediately knew she’d been right not to take his text at face value. The self-destruction of a client and the week of lost work were worth it. She’d needed this explanation. More than that, it proved there was still hope for them. “So you conceivably could have still been under the effects of anesthesia.”

“I wasn’t.”

“But you were on pain medication for sure.”

“Don’t make excuses for me. I was an ass. I broke up with you, and you deserve better.”

Guest Post Claudy Conn + Giveaways

Please welcome author
Claudy Conn

Hi, my name is Claudy Conn and in the first of my Legend series, we are introduced to Prince Breslyn, Royal Seelie Fae and completely hot super hunk.

He nagged me until I agreed to give him a series of his own, a three part novella, and the first, Prince in the Mist, was just released and hit the bestseller list, which has made him impossible. He insisted I interview him to tell readers a little more about the series.

However, we decided to allow his best friend and comrade, Danté, Prince of Lugh who has a role in Trapped-Legend, and then moves to starring role in Free-Falling-Legend to be his interviewer. Danté is not too happy about this this, but is trying to be a sport about it all the same.

Prince Danté: (opened his mouth to start and then was side-tracked a moment as Breslyn punched Danté’s wonderfully muscular chest with affectionate taunting.
{sigh}, I am dealing now with two huge, beautiful males, shoving one another. Finally, I have their attention once more, and perhaps will be able to hand the pen over to Danté, who takes this chore on as seriously as he does everything else.)

Prince Danté: (sneering only slightly) "What makes you think anyone would be interested in your history?"

Prince Breslyn: "Ete thinks so, and as it turns out..." he puffs up proudly. "She was right."

Prince Danté: "Pompous ass."

Me: "Continue please."

Prince Danté: "Can you tell us a little something about the next novella you and Claudy Conn have planned?"

Prince Breslyn: "I can … and it is full with passion and betrayal and love…"

Prince Danté, sarcastically: "Of course it is…"

Me: "Okay royals … easy now."

Prince Danté: (seemingly politely interested) "Is this where we first recognize that Gais could be trouble for us?"

Prince Breslyn: "It is … but even so, we never suspected to what extent, although I always felt he was really wickedly motivated in all things."

Prince Danté: "Oh, as though you could know more than me. You have … what … less than eleven thousand years, and I … I am seventy thousand years old, brat."

Me: "Okay guys—Princey boys, back on track please."

Prince Danté: "When should we look for the next novella and what will it be called?"

Prince Breslyn: "The Prince—Eclipse around March 2012."

Prince Danté: "Of course it will …"

Prince Breslyn, laughs amiably: "Jealous old friend?"

Now I have to interrupt again, trying to get the situation back on track. "Okay Princey boys … you are supposed to be friends—remember?" They eye one another each in his own style and Danté proceeds.

Prince Danté: "So tell your readers, why you started your tale, Prince in the Mist, in the 1300’s."

Prince Breslyn: "Ah, because it was the first time that I chose to break the rules."

Prince Danté: "Did you influence the war between the Scots and the Brits?"

Prince Breslyn: "You have to read and decide that for yourself."

Prince Danté: "I don’t have to read anything…"

Prince Breslyn: "Well no, you don’t … but the readers will decide for themselves…"

Prince Danté: "Ah … the queen calls … sorry brat … gotta go…"

Me: "Thank you both, and if you want to know more about Prince Danté and Prince Breslyn, I invite you to come on in and have a look at my Legend series."

Thank you,
Claudy Conn

Guest author Lisa Darling

A Conversation with Alena the Wife of War

We're here on Olympus today by special invitation from Alena MacLeod the Wife of Ares God of War. She's a rather petite woman with long flower silvery/gray hair and the most gorgeous eyes I've ever seen, they're as gray as her hair and stormy as the sea. We sit here today in the inner sanctum of Ares' Fortress; his bedroom.  Alena is in bed and, to my eyes, she looks weary almost lost and definitely tired.

Lisa: Hello, Alena, thank you so much for having me here on Olympus today, I've interviewed your Husband, Ares, a few times but it was always down in the Mortal World on his secluded Greek Isle.  That's where I met you for the first time…

Alena: Hummm…as I recall, you were trying to get my Husband to sleep with you.

(I feel a rush of colorful heat run into my cheeks. Ares is quite difficult to resist and she's right, I was trying to lure him to bed.)

Lisa: Sorry about that…
.
Alena: Don't worry about it, all of the women try to bed him.

(There's no mistaking the agitation in her normally soft voice.)

Lisa: Well, it's a very rare opportunity you've bestowed on me today and I'm honored.

Alena: Thank you for coming, I'm afraid I can't open the Gates of Olympus to go down to the Mortal World or I would have met you there.

Lisa: Ares doesn't allow you to leave Olympus?

Alena: No, he doesn't. (She sighs and looks away from me for a moment.)

Lisa: Aren't you part Fey with powers of your own?

Alena: Yes, but only an Olympian can open the Gates of Olympus or someone trusted enough to be given that power by one of Them.

I find it odd that Ares hasn't given his Wife, a woman he's told me several times he loves more than his own life, the freedom to come and go from Olympus as she pleases but it's obvious this line of questioning may be upsetting my hostess and I don't want to be rude.

Lisa:  So what's it like being the Wife of Ares God of War?

Alena: If you'd asked me that question when we first met on the island I would have said it was grand. (A sad smile crosses her lips.) Then we moved here to Olympus and everything started falling apart. (She leans in close to me and touches my arm as her haunting eyes dart about the room and she whispers to me.) His Family is crazy, did you know that? All of them they're nuking futz!

Lisa: All of Them?

Alena: Every…last…one. (With each word, she taps my hand for emphasis) Except maybe Eros, he could be sane, then again that could just be a facade.  I wish all of Them would just leave us alone and we could go back to our island where life was peaceful.  Since I had Raven Ares won't leave here.

Lisa: I met your son, Raven, when I interviewed him and Ares the other day. He's grown very quickly, hasn't he?  He seems like quite the handful.

Alena: They're turning him against me. My own son!

Lisa: Who?

Alena: The Olympians; Zeus and Apollo and that bitch Aphrodite. They're getting in his head and making him believe terrible lies about me and my kind.

Lisa: That's horrible!  What does Ares say about all of that?

Alena: (She sighs again and folds her hands in her lap as she sits in the bed.) Mostly that it's normal, all just part of Life on Olympus. Damn loony bin is what it is. It's like living in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest".  Aphrodite is 'Nurse Ratchet'.

We're coming up to a sticky subject here and I want to be tactful but sometimes there's no better way to pose a question other than to come right out with it.

Lisa: I understand Ares had an affair with Aphrodite…recently, I mean. He Fathered a Daughter with her, Trinity I believe her name is…

Alena: Was.

Lisa: Excuse me?

Alena: Trinity suffered a horrible accident recently and she passed to the Underworld. (She leans forward and starts talking to me as though we're old girlfriends from high school and I imagine that's because she's so desperately lonely and longing for someone…anyone…to talk to, to hear her.) She was a sweet little girl and I liked her, I never blamed her for how she came into this world. I know my Husband had no other choice but to sleep with Aphrodite…that time.  Possibly the last as well, I don't know anymore.  I forgive Ares, truly I do, I love him so much but it hurts to know that he was with her.  I mean she's so beautiful and….shall we say 'talented'?  Me? Well, I'm just…me.  She'll do anything to get her claws into him and take Ares away from me.

Lisa: Well, Ares obviously thinks you're pretty special, he married you, had a Son with you and he always speaks about you in such glowing terms.

Alena: I'm beginning to wonder about that too.  Maybe my Husband is just as insane as the rest of his Family and is just better at hiding it.

Lisa: He seems sane to me. I believe him when he tells me how much in love with you he is. I think he would do whatever it took to protect you and keep you safe.

Alena: That's the problem and Zeus knows it. That's how Ares ended up in Aphrodite's bed in the first place. If I ever get pregnant again he'll have to do it again. There's little chance of that now, isn't there?  (Tears well in her eyes as she stops to look at her surroundings and the bed she can't get out of anymore.) So perhaps that part will work out and Zeus won't force him back to Aphrodite's bed but somehow I think my Father in-Law will find a way around his bargain with Ares. He's such a bastard and he'll do anything to get rid of me.
Lisa: Including turning Raven against you?

Alena: Yes and Zeus hates my son as much as he hates me. He's only using Raven hoping something catastrophic will come out of it.  I suppose it has, hasn't it?  (Again, she looks at the bed this time she shakes her head.)  But it won't be enough for Zeus. He won't be happy until either I'm dead or Ares casts me aside.  All because he wants to return Olympus to its former glory but those days are dead and gone, they're not coming back, no matter how many full-blooded Olympians he makes Ares produce for him. As much as what Ares did hurts my heart, I know that, ultimately, Zeus is to blame.

Lisa: You think Ares will sleep with Aphrodite again?

Alena: Maybe even of his own accord. Look at me, how am I supposed to be a wife to my Husband when I can't even move my legs?  How am I supposed to fight back against Olympians when I can't even get out of this bed?

Suddenly a large shadow falls over us as we're huddled together head to head and whispering.
Ares: But in that bed is where I like you best.  If those beautiful legs of yours never work again that will be a shame but I will happily spend the rest of my life carrying you around in my arms to wherever you want to go.
Alena and I break our huddle as I sit back and Ares moves between us to settle his 7-foot frame on the bed next to her.

Lisa: Greetings, Lord Ares.

Ares: Always a pleasure to see you again, my dear. (He turns to Alena and takes her up in his strong arms) All I care is that you finally woke up and you are no longer asleep, gone from me, lost in a place I could not follow. My life is empty without you.

As he gives her a long squeeze, it's clear to see in those misty eyes that she wants so desperately to believe him.  But her world is in shambles and she has a large fight ahead of her.  One she isn't sure she's strong or cunning enough to win.

Lisa: I should go now. Thank you for taking the time to talk with me today, Alena. Lord Ares.
Ares: Raven will see you to the Gates of Olympus and safely off the mountain.

From the doorway a sharp whistle pierces the air and I turn my head to see Raven standing there impatiently waiting for me.  I don't want to go with him, alone. The boy frightens me.  I'm still reeling from the last time I was with him. I've never said someone was inherently evil and I won't say so now but Raven is the closest I've ever come to it. Rising from the bed I take in the sight of his mother wrapped up in his Father's arms and a small trickle of hope runs through me.  Alena is a very strong and determined woman, I know better than to count her out, so perhaps there's still time for her and for her son, Raven Child of War.

Guest author Maureen O. Betita

I’ve got a questions for everyone to start this blog off…what do you consider paranormal?
I’ve been wrestling with this concept for a few years now. My very first writing class, at the Romantic Times Booklovers Convention in Pittsburgh, 2008…I talked with Judi McCoy, the instructor, about this topic. I had a finished book…and she wanted to know what genre it was. Our convo went something like this…

“…well, the main character is a witch…”

“Paranormal!” (triumphant Judi)

“…who can travel through time and space…”

“Science Fiction!” (brow wrinkled Judi)

“…who restores her magical power through sex…”

“Erotica?” (blinking Judi)

“…who lands in Port Royal during the golden age of piracy…”

“…historical?” Judi shook her head.

I ended up pretty confused myself and simply kept writing, and not trying to understand. I sorta knew science fiction/fantasy as a long time reader and attendee of science fiction/fantasy conventions. I knew that including sex and romance into scifi was the kiss of death. (I think that has changed and was changing back then, but I only knew what I knew.) (Which wasn’t much, come to think of it.)

I still have that book, it’s a nice fat series and one day, it will be published and I will go on to conquer the world! BWAH HA HA!

Meanwhile, I kept writing and founded my personal quirky genre, I call piratepunk. I mean, steampunk had risen to some level of recognition, but I didn’t quite write steampunk. Not enough steam. But punk? Well, if you consider punk a bit like the character in Shakespeare, Puck…then yeah, it works. I don’t do much with mohawks, bodypiercing or headpounding, but I might change a character’s head into that of an ass, given a chance. Maybe it should be piratepuck?

*grin

Still, for my publisher I had to fit into an existing genre…and the one that fit better than most, was paranormal. There are vampires and werewolves and zombies…granted, they are pretty much just normal people with odd appetites and no one blinks twice at them in the Tortuga I created for my Kraken’s Caribbean books…but they are there. Along with a matchmaking albino Kraken who guards his Caribbean (when not playing cupid.)

Genre…it’s a very fluid thing! What are your thoughts on it?

And for fun… An excerpt from the first in the the Kraken’s Caribbean series… The Kraken’s Mirror, where my hero, Captain Silvestri prepares a spell, asking for the Kraken’s help. And finds it…
…..
A sliver of moon rose from the sea as he walked into the surf. The water chilled him slightly, but nothing like the nightmare the night Emily held him. He’d seen her, Glacious. A frost appeared on the glass and her eyes studied him. Studied them.

He shook the memory off, praying it had been nothing more than a lingering effect from the nightmare. He walked until the water hit him below his waist and stopped. He held the mirror flat, barely above the water, as Mama Lu told him. A ripple of water reached for it, which was certainly strange. Well, spells should be unusual. He lowered it minutely, and the next ripple kissed the mirror, stirred the powder Mama Lu told him to sprinkle atop the rest.

A ripple flowed away from him, counter to the sea’s course. It disappeared toward the horizon, barely visible in the bare light of a crescent moon. And he waited. Mama Lu said to be patient.

“Ya gonna get a sign. Some message or vision ’bout what way ta go. Wait for it!”

He heard her melodic cadence even now, floating above the sea. The quiet of the night, the lack of any breeze, nothing stirred the trees at his back. No birds called. He looked up at the stars; they blazed down at him.

He sighed and turned his head back to the horizon.

He fought the instinct to scramble away from the great, bulky head of the albino Kraken, not three feet from him, bobbing above the waterline. He swallowed and mastered his fear, while his heart galloped loud enough for the world to hear.

guest author Ami Blackwelder

What lies beneath the water? This is the question I ask in my latest release The Mers, which came out halloween night! Available on kindle, nook, smashwords. Would we find enlarged sea monsters? Mermaids? If our world ceased to be as it is now....and the land crumbled beneath the water....how would we survive?

I love teasing readers with dystopian questions about how our actions will affect our future. I like to make readers think. But I also want them to have fun. So, in most of my novels, The Mers included, I give the reader a plausible world, one plausible way our world could turn out and insert many heart-felt characters to tell a story that is relatable on a very human level.

I enjoy reading stories that are not just unpredictable, but also character driven. I love to fall-in-love with the characters. When I write I keep those two points alive. I want readers to sit at the seat of their pants, to cry, laugh, throw something when the characters does something they didn’t like. I want my readers to care, to FEEl. After all, that is half the fun of reading fiction. That and an amazing new world.

I hope I do that for all my readers with my array of novels: The Gate of Lake Forest (elf romance), Shifter Evolutions (books 1-6, shifter romance), The Day the Flowers Died (historical romance set in Munich, Germany 1930), and with my latest book The Mers.

I am building a variety of worlds for readers to explore: elf, shifter, mermaid...but also I will be writing about angels, psychic abilities, and vampires. So, look out for a plethora of intriguing worlds to enter in 2012!

Do we really ever know what we are stepping into whether in the water or in our life? What if everything you thought you knew turned out to be a lie?

Please check out my latest release The Mers and find out why my books are stories readers just can’t put down (I’m not kidding)

Please order the books from kindle, nook, amazon, BnN online and front desk, and on the author's website.

Straddling Lane, Frenier’s knees dug into the soft porch sofa and his arms braced on each side of her neck. He dangled a fresh strawberry above her wet lips and teased. The resolute glint in her eyes stayed fixed on the moist fruit as it oscillated.

“Let me have it!” she demanded, her long tongue showing.

“Come and get it,” he whispered, his breath blowing over her porcelain like face. With only his beige trousers on, the beads of water from the shower earlier slid over his defined muscles and dropped one by one over Lane’s naked leg. In only lace panties and a pink bra, her blonde hair sprawled over the sofa, under- neath and behind her. Like the indents in desert sand made by slithering snakes, her hair appeared soft and perfectly patterned.

“Give it to me, Frank!” She batted her lashes, her chin angling upward as her lips fought to secure the strawberry. Like getting a fish to charge at bait, Frenier had become an expert fisherman when it came to her, when it came to most women. Both players at love, they understood the game.

Guest post with author Jacquelyn Frank

Please welcome Jacquelyn Frank to Bitten!

Hello you crazy reading fiends. And yes, I DO include myself in that. Though not so much reading time for myself these days, I have the heavily laden bookshelves to prove I am a permanent member of the reading-fiend fan club.  But now I’m reading off my Kindle (and heavily craving a NOOK color in spite of the fact that I will have my library split in twain.) I have also recently discovered the joys of audiobooks! (The NIGHTWALKERS series is in audio at last! You can get them here and here!) Anyway, I’m happy to talk with you all.

Okay, let’s get the hawking of the wares out of the way. J

KANE a.k.a. SUPERNATURAL
KANE has arrived! August 30th! Oh at last we get to glimpse into the past and find out…What happened that first Samhain night between Kane and Corrine? We get to be the proverbial fly on that wall and see just how things unfolded. After all, it was Samhain night, Kane and Corrine were Imprinted, and Kane was going to be driven to take his mate no matter what! No matter that she was comatose and near dead from being drained of energy. And knowing how noble the Demons are, how wholly offensive must this have been to Kane’s sensibilities?
What happened??

Well, you know what you have to do to find out. :P

The first man. Or, ironically enough for me he’s the last man. Last Demon standing, as it were. It took three years, but the next book in the NIGHTWALKERS series is here! Releasing Oct. 25th, 2011, ADAM: THE NIGHTWALKERS Book Six will arrive.  I know, I know. It’s about time! Well, it’s the right time, really. The book was actually started right after I wrote NOAH, book five, as the dates in the story will reflect. However, at the time I was feeling pretty burned out on the NIGHTWALKER world, and the story never progressed past the first few chapters. I was in the process of being published for the first time, life was changing, and other stories were scratching at my brain begging to be free. I decided to take a little break.

Ahh. What a relief. Then I decided, you know what, I’m not going back there. Let NOAH be the end of it. I’m done. Finito! Kaput!

Enter a half a BILLION fan letters that went something like this:

PLEASE don’t let it be the end!!

What happens to Noah and Kestra? Tell me Gideon heals her and she can have a baby!

Do Damien and Syreena ever have a baby?

What about Leah and Seth? Can’t they grow up and fall in love?

Hey! Jasmine needs an HEA!

And the one most people said:

What about RUTH?? You have to kill the bitch!!

Well, I heard you! And while I don’t answer every last one of those questions, I take care of enough of them in ADAM to keep most of you all happy.  I think. I hope. Well, if not, suck it up. :P I have plans for the future. Trust your author. Hehehe.

Haunted by magic, beset by evil, the Nightwalkers face
their darkest hour yet. And when they unthinkable
happens, only one legendary male has the power,
the will, to save them: Adam....

FOR 400 YEARS HE WAS LOST TO HER,
    BUT HE IS HERS TONIGHT...

From their first tantalizing touch, Jasmine knows he is
different. What other lover could unlock her tight control,
flood Vampire senses jaded by a lifetime of decadent self
indulgence? Centuries ago, when he disappeared without a
trace, she had given up hope of ever fulfilling the promise of
incomparable passion. But here he is, against the very laws
of nature, ready to bring down their most vicious enemy,
ready to bring her blood to the boiling point....
If she will only let him.

I wanted to tell you that, yes, I do have plans for Tristan from the Shadowdwellers to get his HEA eventually. What form and time this takes shape in is a grey area at present, but there is an intention.

I also want to take the opportunity to give you all hugs cyber hugs and thank you SO much for your devotion to this series. That has allowed it to be translated into over five foreign languages and now the entire set is in the midst of being released in audio format by Tantor Media! (The fabulous Xe Sands does our gang of men and their ladies proud!) Anyway, I have wondrous things planned for you and this world in the future. Follow my on my website, Facebook, Twitter and blog and I’ll keep you up to date on me, my books, my life, my peeves, my cats, my kid…basically all the floatsam of my life. Oh, and on Facebook we have a neat roleplaying page you ought to join. You get to watch actors play your favorite NIGHTWALKER characters, get to oogle the Hump Day Hunks on Wednesdays and a variety of other things as well. Oh, and the person who plays Ruth (cough) is sick and twisted and does a FABULOUS job, if I do say so myself. Hehehe.

Love Conquers All Evil

Does love really conquer Evil? It was the question my protagonist, Jessie, had to answer in the 4th book of the Soul Catcher series.

The third book in the series, Fighting Evil, ends with the question "What happens next?" I jumped right into writing book 4. Drake and Jessie are on the run from the VETOV (Vampires for the Ethical Treatment of Other Vampires). In writing the book, I had to think of a place they could hide. Vampires are cold-blooded creatures. The logical place they'd want to go is somewhere warm. They hate the cold whereas demons, being hot-blooded creatures, love the cold. So, what place did I come up with for Drake and Jessie to hide? Alaska. Yes, it's not a good place for Drake, but he knows they are safer there.

Upon their arrival, they stumble across a murder. The dynamic duo asks questions and soon discovers there is a serial killer on the loose, and it's a demon stealing good souls. Jessie wants to stop the evil murderer, so she mingles with the local demon community. Well, a werewolf from the past appears and more trouble arises. She doesn't want to tell Drake just yet because she doesn't want to alarm him. Needless-to-say, things spin out of control fast. She has several "evils" that she faces while her heart yearns for one man who wants to spend eternity with her. Can she conquer the evil? Should she give up life for eternity with her vampire lover? It's not so simple since she's half-demon, but Drake works hard to persuade her, real hard. To find out the answers, I encourage you to read the book.

Excerpt:
"You still have not told me what is on your mind," Drake said.
I stopped pacing, and stood near the door. "I'm thinking about the kind of demons who steal souls."
"You know what I am talking about," he said, smiling. "Our agreement from earlier. You owe me an answer, and I intend to get it."
Get it? Oh, I could give it to him, but why not make him work for it? Grinning, I uncrossed my arms. "And I seem to recall telling you to give me what I want, and then I would tell you. Well, Mr. Dark Eyes, you still owe me."
"Mr. Dark Eyes?" Drake slowly rose from the chair. "I owe you?"
I took a step back, placing myself in the doorway. Any closer and I'd run. Let him catch me, and work for the answer.
"I fulfilled my obligation," he said, his head slightly tilted to the side. His pupils enlarged.
I licked my lips. "Only to an extent. We were interrupted."
"You are teasing me," he said, as he took a step toward me.
Giggling, I darted down the hall, and raced down the stairs. Footsteps came fast behind me. I had no hope of escaping him, but that was all part of the fun. And he knew it.
Drake caught me two steps past the stairs. He picked me up, and my legs flew up in front of me. He carried me into the bedroom, all while I laughed, screamed a little, and wriggled in his arms. Reaching the bed, he let go, and I fell onto the soft mattress.
I quickly twisted around to face him. He gazed into my eyes, and below his curled upper lip, two sharp teeth said hello. Amusement played on his face. He grabbed my legs, and yanked me toward him.
"Do you refuse to tell me after we agreed—?"
"Refuse is such a strong word. I don't refuse. I simply want something in return." I grinned.
He lowered his body over mine, and rubbed his solid cock against me. Oh God, I loved the feel of him.
"I intend to get my answer," he said before he pressed his lips to mine, kissing me gently, tenderly.
I raked my fingers through his soft hair, brushing it away from his face. "Show me how badly you want it."
After a quick tug, he had my shorts off, and then he showed me how much he wanted my answer, repeatedly, until my body was sore, throbbing with ecstasy, and totally exhausted.

Guest post with author Stacey Kennedy and giveaway!

Four best friends embrace their fantasies and make a pact of seduction to live out their deepest and darkest desires. The women place their lives in the hands of fate and one short straw declares Marley will be the first to awaken her secret wishes.

Reed, a Dom at sex club Castle Dolce Vita, has lived the BDSM lifestyle for a while, but has yet to find a submissive that suits him. That is until he meets Marley, a woman seeking to indulge her fantasies.

As Reed guides her through a night of pleasure, Marley brings more to him than a perfect submissive–she stirs emotions in him long ago lost. By binding Marley, he runs up against his own limits, and now he has to choose between his self-protective barriers or surrendering to the wildfire Marley has reignited in his heart.

Publisher’s Note: This book contains explicit sexual situations, graphic language, and material that some readers may find objectionable: BDSM theme and elements, including spanking.

Teaser:
Stone walls didn’t give the air of a warm room, nor did the cold cement on the floor, but it set the mood perfectly for the BDSM scene. Reed circled his submissive as she stood atop a wooden box in the center of the bare room.

Zoie was good and obedient. The nipple clamps pinched her areolae hard, just as Reed wanted. He tugged on one to induce a mild amount of pain, and Zoie whimpered, yet not in a way that made him hesitate—she sounded too desperate. Reed had enough confidence to know she needed more than he could give her.
Not every sub Reed played with could tolerate the pain Zoie managed. He enjoyed pushing her limits because she could take the overload. He added two weights to the chain that connected the nipple clamps. Zoie’s gaze burned with desire as she hissed.

“I think I’ll leave you waiting for a while.” Reed strode toward the other side of the room. He grabbed the plastic bottle off the metal tray containing the sex toys, and drank the lukewarm water as his gaze scanned the small space. The old American country estate, Castle Dolce Vita, catered not only to BDSM but to all desires.

By day he was a criminal lawyer, but on evenings and weekends, the BDSM floor had become his home since his lifestyle submissive, Samantha, left him two years ago. He’d loved; he’d lost. He wouldn’t make the same mistake again.

Just as he placed the bottle back on the tray, the door to the room opened. “You were looking for me.”
Reed glanced over his shoulder to find his good friend and roommate Kole drenched in sweat and running a hand through his blond hair to wipe off the perspiration. Kole punished harder than Reed. Reed used floggers and crops, among other toys, but he refused to make the sub bleed or leave bruises, while Kole delighted in granting such pleasures.

Kole took a quick glance at Zoie before he looked back to Reed with curiosity in his eyes. “What did you want?”

Reed understood his friend’s inquisitiveness—it wasn’t often he called Kole into a scene. “She’s outgrown me, and I think you’d be better suited to her.”

“Sounds interesting.” Kole all but purred. “Tell me about her.”

“She’s got a high tolerance for pain, and I can tell she needs, craves more, but you know it’s not my thing.”
“But it’s mine.” Kole grinned.

Reed held no jealousy, mainly because he’d never had the connection with Zoie to warrant it. If he needed to put his submissive with another dom to satisfy her, he would. No questions asked.

“Well, well. Let’s go have a look, shall we.” Kole stepped over to Zoie. Her breathing hitched when he ran his hand over her hip. He gave her ass a light slap, and Zoie squealed.

Reed settled near her, expected her to focus on him. When she didn’t, he issued a demand. “Zoie, look at me.” He grasped her jaw and squeezed firmly. “Tonight was our last night together.”

She shook her head. He tightened his grip, putting a stop to her disobedience. “Kole will take you on. You’re safe with him. I would not give you to just anyone.”

Zoie’s gaze flickered over to Kole, and excitement lit her eyes. Reed squeezed her jaw again, drawing her attention back to him. “You’ve been a good girl, and I’ve enjoyed my time with you. I offer you Kole as a reward for how much you’ve pleased me.” He kissed her cheek. “Be a good girl for Kole too.”
“I will, Sir,” Zoie responded.

Reed stepped away just as Kole slapped Zoie’s ass with another light hit. Her eyes closed, and she moaned. The reaction from her confirmed Reed had done the right thing. He grinned at Kole, and Kole smiled back.
He turned on his heels and proceeded to leave the room. As he opened the door, he heard Zoie’s screams echo against the stone walls. Kole laughed. “I’m going to enjoy you, sweet Zoie.”

The door closed behind Reed, and silence fell around him as he made his way toward the restaurant. He was satisfied he’d done right by Zoie. However, a thought stayed in his mind: what now, and more importantly…who?

He passed through the dining room in the castle, entered the restaurant, and emptiness greeted him. At this late hour, the only other person here was the barkeep. He took a seat on the stool in front of the black marble countertop where the laptop was located, and the bartender handed him his usual choice of beverage, a cold beer.

Reed took a long swig before he clicked the mouse on the laptop to venture into the BDSM forum. He scrolled down the messages and was not surprised at what he found. Woman looking for dom. Slave ready and willing.

Minutes drew on as he read through them, one by one, and nothing jumped out as an interest. Frustrated, he raised his beer to his mouth again, and as the liquid filled his throat, his gaze landed on something that spiked his curiosity.

The seduction pact! Indulge my fantasy!
He placed his beer back on the bar and clicked on the message. First he saw the words but didn’t pay the note any attention because the picture of the woman captured him and stirred his cock.
Her green eyes stood out against the dark, wavy curls of hair surrounding her face. He glanced over to her stats. Five-eight. His cock grew heavier. Reed stood at six-one. He was always looking down on women at an uncomfortable angle. If this woman had heels on, she’d be close to eye level with him, and the thought aroused him.

He scrolled back up to her message to see what the sexy woman had to say.
One woman needing a dom to fulfill her desires of BDSM. Limits unknown but will try new things to discover herself and satisfy the man who controls her.

Reed’s heart pounded. He wanted to be the one to introduce her to BDSM. His reaction surprised him.
He clicked the claimed button at the top of the screen to indicate she had been contacted by a dom and was now off limits. Then he reached into his pocket to grab his cell phone, and after he entered the last number, he placed the phone to his ear.

It rang twice, and then a string of curse words followed by shuffling filled his ear. Reed had expected to receive voice mail. He had not anticipated someone would answer at this late hour. “Hello?
More rustling sounded before a trembling voice answered, “Hello.”

In the background, Reed could hear a couple of women giggling, and he wondered if he had the right telephone number. “I’m looking to speak with Marley Adams. Is she around?”

“Um…er…” The woman cleared her throat. “This is her.”

“I’m Reed Matheson. I’ve seen your profile on the castle’s forum and am interested in arranging a night with you.”

He was met with silence and pulled the receiver away to look at the screen, curious if she had hung up, but the lit screen indicated she hadn’t. He returned the phone to his ear. “Are you still there?”

“Yes.”

Reed waited a good thirty seconds before he concluded something was amiss and wondered if maybe this was a joke. “I’m not in the mood to be trifled with. I’d recommend the next time you ladies want to play a game, you choose another method to do it. Good night.”

“No, don’t go.”

The desperation in her voice stopped him. Clearly something else was going on here. If this wasn’t women being drunk and playing around, what could be Marley’s hesitation? Then it dawned on him. “Is the problem because you’re not alone?”

“Yes.”

Another round of hushed giggles sounded. “Right. Then I take it you don’t want to discuss this with your friends there?”

“Exactly.” Marley sighed.

That sigh of hers sent a rush of blood straight to his cock. Her voice held a wonderful sensual tone that appealed to him and confirmed he had made the right decision to contact her.

His reaction intrigued him. When had he been so interested in a submissive? Not since his ex-girlfriend and that knowledge sent a ping of pain to his heart, which he flatly ignored.

He wanted to be the one to guide Marley. Something about her made his stomach clench, and the thought of not having her maddened him.

Now understanding that she’d paused because she craved privacy, Reed took another approach. He scrolled back up to Marley’s information, clicked on her e-mail address to open a new message, and attached his profile. “We’ll keep this short then. I’ve sent my details to the e-mail address you’ve provided on the forum. Have a look, and we’ll go from there.”

He heard shuffling again, some whispered arguing, before Marley gasped. “Oh…um…you’re…”
Reed chuckled. He didn’t mind that his looks left her speechless. Hell, hers had done the same to him. “Do you approve?”

“He’s gorgeous,” a woman said, not Marley.

The sound of a slap followed by Marley’s grumble informed him she’d just issued someone a punishment for speaking so loud. “I’m interested,” was all she said.

That was enough for him. “Read through the castle’s rules and follow them accordingly. It’ll take you around twelve days to get all the documentation you require, so let’s meet two weeks from tonight. Come to the restaurant at the Castle Dolce Vita at seven p.m. When you arrive, you will ask for and always address me as Master Reed. Understood?”

“Mm hmm.”

Her response made him tighten his jaw. “You will answer me with words, not sounds.”

“Okay…sorry. I’ll be there.”

He would rid her of that behavior. He preferred that his submissives to speak forthrightly and for their responses to be clear. “Very well. I look forward to seeing you then.”

A long pause followed before Marley whispered, “Me too.”

Reed waited for her to hang up first, and as her friends in the background laughed, he heard Marley exhale, long and deep. Nervous? Excited?

He could only be pleased he’d gotten to her first. Many Castle Dolce Vita doms would want her, but he’d snagged her. His throbbing cock reminded him he’d gotten lucky tonight.
