Synopsis

Love is somewhere near the bottom of Lily Thomas’ list of life goals, right next to competitive eating and underwater cave diving. She’s spent six years pirouetting and pliĆ©ing her way up the ranks of the New York Ballet with her eye on the prize and love in the back seat. But now that Blane Baker -- Lily’s long time crush -- is finally single, she’ll throw her rules out the window without thinking twice.
Reality with Blane isn’t as epic as the fantasy she imagined, and the truth sends her spinning straight into the arms of the man she never knew she’d always wanted.
West Williams has been friends with Lily since the day she moved into their building and he saved her armoire from a swift, sudden death by staircase. Their friendship has always been easy, the boundaries clearly defined. With neither of them willing to risk their relationship, they’ve drifted happily through the years as companions, never considering more.
That is, until they do. And that realization changes everything.

It’s time. Time to tell the truth. Time to face her past and step into her future.

Starting with Van.

Cory will wait to the beat of the ticking clock for him to come back. To see what she’s done and make the final judgment. As much as she holds onto the small hope that he’ll still want her, she’s ready for rejection, ready for the pain. As ready as she can be, at least.

It’s time to make things right, not only with Van, but with Jill. With Jade. With everything.

No more running.
An amazing conclusion to this serial romance.  Cory is faced with the consequences of her actions and how best to move on with her life.  We get to see a lot more of Jillian and it was great to see just why Cory wanted to protect her so much.  Van's reaction is somewhat expected, but we all know there's going to be more to it eventually.

Watching Cory finally start getting her life back on track was probably the best part of this.  Until you get to the end at least.  The ending totally rocked!  It was beyond perfect and I loved it.

** Part two of a three part serial ** The choice is steep: Stay on the ledge and steal
Van's painting or take the leap and sacrifice her sister. It's another decision in a long line that she's had to make in her life, and though it's easy to make, it's impossible to execute. Jade won't let Cory go until she gets what she wants, but the price for Cory is high. It's never been hard to steal, to lie, but Van changed all the rules. It was the last thing she wanted to do to him. But as much as that choice is agony, there's really only one to make. Betrayal and pain. Love and loss. Decisions and consequences. The edge Cory walks is razor sharp and sky high, but she can't look down. Not until she makes it to the other side.
This story is really starting to get interesting.  As Cory prepares to completely betray Van, she finds herself breaking down, being forced to give up the one person she finally let see a part of her.  But before you start wondering why she would do something like this - well, she isn't really given much of a choice.

Her battle against Jade really comes to a head and everything really hits the fan.  But Cory isn't one to just roll over and take it - instead she comes up with a very dangerous plan to try and make things right.  Now she just needs to pull it off.  I have a feeling Volume three is going to be one hell of an adventure.

Life is never black and white.

It’s a fact Josie knows too well, right next to wanting what you can’t have. And even though Jon is her friend and colleague, he pushes those boundaries on the regular. There are times when she feels like she can’t escape him, and others where she doesn’t want to.

The tension twists tighter every time they meet, but Jon’s unavailable. Live-in girlfriend of years unavailable. As much as Josie cares about him, and as much as she wants more, his flirting is a cruel tease. Unfair. And she’ll push him away if she has to, if that’s what it takes to protect herself.

As far as Aphrodite’s concerned, Jon and Josie getting together is inevitable. But keeping them together may be harder than any of them realize, and what Josie thinks is her happy ending may just turn out to be fool’s gold.
Warning - this is not Josie and Jon's happily ever after.  This is how they met, how they fell in love, and how Jon totally screwed it up.  But - if you're reading the series in order, then you've already had their HEA and the is just a bit of bonus history for them.

I really enjoyed how they interacted with each other.  Both trying not to act on their feeling for the other because Jon currently has a girl-friend.  Don't worry, he's not a cheater, that works itself out wonderfully.  There really isn't a "bad guy" in this one other than life itself and all the wrenches it can throw your way (with a little help from Hera).

Beautifully told, I really loved getting know the two of them better.

Release Day: Hardcore Volume 1 by Staci Hart

*** Part 1 of a 3 part serial ***

Cory James has never known a life where she wasn’t running. Running from the cops, her home, her past. Running from love. The only time she’s free is when she throws on her hood and takes to the roofs to become a part of New York, to climb to a place in the city where she doesn’t feel alone.

Stealing is nothing, lying inevitable, byproducts of survival. A way for Cory to provide for herself and for her younger sister, Jill, give her the life Cory couldn’t have. For five years, Cory set up a long line of teetering dominos, one by one, choice by choice.

Meeting Van is the first domino to fall, and once they crash into each other, it’s only a matter of time before her whole world is in danger of falling apart. She can tell herself over and again that she doesn’t care, but it’s a lie. She knows it from the first time she says his name, but she can’t let him in, not when she has a job to do, a job that could rip her life apart at the seams. One that she’ll have to betray Van to finish.

He’ll follow however high she can climb, but she can only run for so long before she has to choose.

This book was a lot of firsts for me.  I had to go look up the term "parkour" and I'm still not quite sure how to pronounce it.  For others of you that may be in the dark (from dictionary.com) "the sport of moving along a route, typically in a city, trying to getaround or through various obstacles in the quickest and most efficientmanner possible, as by jumping, climbing, or running".  Sounds pretty cool and something that would probably kill my uncoordinated self.  The descriptions of this activity were amazing - you can definitely get a feel for the thrills of parkour by reading this.

Cory is a criminal.  She's a thief, and she's pretty good at it.  Of course she has her good reasons to be doing this, and it gives a bit of a super hero feel at times.  She has her own moral code and when she's asked to break it, she's not quite sure what to do.  Her first meeting with Van is quite the memorable encounter, and I have to admit that he was pretty resourceful in tracking down this elusive girl.

Volume one is just the beginning of the romance, and as a serial we do not see a happily ever after just yet.  The romance is definitely beginning and I am rooting for them to be together - they would just be so cute running along the rooftops holding hands.  We are left with a cliffhanger as Cory is put in a horrible position of having to make a difficult choice.  I can't wait to see what happens next!

Aphrodite knows better than anyone how the heart works. Just don’t ask her to figure out
her own.

She’s been away from Olympus for weeks, which wasn’t near long enough for her to move on from everything that happened, to get past the betrayal and loss. She has no idea what she’s walking into when she gets back other than a new competition, this time against Artemis. The goddesses have never been friends, but now they have more in common than ever, though they’d rather face eat ambrosia straight than admit it.

Artemis can’t help but be smug. Her player, Josie, is a private investigator who’s lost more than she’s won. Every waking moment is consumed by her fire to catch the man who killed her partner, and when Jon comes back into town after leaving her without a word, it’s more than she can handle. She’ll never let him in. Not again.

But Jon only did what he thought was right, and he’ll do anything he can, give her everything he has to give to prove that he can be trusted with her heart again.

With Adonis gone and the threat of Ares around every corner, Aphrodite’s past presses on her, leaving her more alone than she’s ever been. She can’t help wondering if she’ll ever escape, and how much pain she’ll endure before the whole ordeal is behind her.

Snake in the Grass (Good Gods #2): Review
What the Heart Wants (Good Gods #2.5): Review

Book three in the Good Gods series picks up the story of Aphrodite and her contests right where it left off in book two. Her competitor this time as Artemis - one of my favorites from mythology so I was excited to see her. Artemis was an amazing character. I loved watching her interact with her oceanids and seeing her struggle with her feelings for Orion. Her contestant, Josie, was like her in so many ways. They developed together throughout the story and it was great to see them tied together so nicely.

After the events in book two, Aphrodite is emotionally destroyed. Her solution is to bond with her best friend Perry and come up with some incredibly clever nick names for Ares to avoid dealing with her feelings. Aphrodite really grew and developed a lot - watching her with her husband Heff made me want to cry - he's such an amazing guy! Aphrodite's contestant, Jon, is just perfect. He's not literally pefect, but that is what made him so great - he was a real guy.

There is quite a bit of excitement in this story with Josie and Jon on the trail of a murderer. If Artemis and Aphrodite don't pay close attention something horrible could happen. There is a ton of build up around this part of the story and it was spread out very nicely to keep me NEEDING to know what happened without taking off and leaving me in the dust.

The other gods we have met play small parts and it's great to see the remain part of the ongoing storyline.

Love wasn't an option, until he met her.

It's 1984, and Tanaka Katsu is paving his way in the Yakuza. His marriage to Yuki was a business deal, and one that he has paid for with his happiness.

Aphrodite can't stand that he's so miserable, and Hera, the goddess of marriage and monogamy, has a strong hold on Yuki, who will do whatever it takes to get what she believes is hers. Aphrodite won't sit by and watch Katsu's life slip away with no chance at love, so when he takes a trip to Vegas, she'll introduce him to his match.

Kim never thought she'd be in the situation like the one that's coming her way, but what the heart wants is a powerful thing, and one that's impossible to walk away from.
I fell in love with the sisters in Snake in the Grass and it seems many others did as well.  So Staci decided to write a little of the history - where Aphrodite and Hera go head to head in a battle for love.  This gives us a look not only into the mortal past, but gives us a glimpse of the rivalry that has existed for a millenium between the two goddesses.

The story isn't as eventful as the others in the series, but it is written a lot shorter as well.  That doesn't stop th characters from really shining though.  Katsu seems to be such a hard-ass tough guy, but when he's around Kim he just melts into a gooey ball of lovingness.  It's incredibly sweet how much he cares about her, and how caring about her completely changes his life.  We don't seem to get a lot about Kim though.  If there had been just a little more about getting into her head I think I would have given this another full 5 stars.

Guest Post: All About Apollo by Staci Hart

Apollo in under 100:
An honest, happy-go-lucky loner. He's good at almost everything he does, but often gets a raw deal because he lacks the cut-throat attitude that most of the other gods possess. He's the god of art, music, the sun, and prophecy, among other things. His twin sister, Artemis is his closest ally, and has been mourning the loss of his cursed love for thousands of years. This competition is a rare chance to get her back, and he'll do anything to win.

Profile:
God of: Music, Art, Sun, Health, Archery, Prophecy
Looks like: 6' tall, tan, blond, blue eyes, lean but muscular, pretty mouth
Animals: Roe Deer, Raven
Symbols: Laurel, Lyre, Bow and Arrow

Quotes:
You should call it now and save yourself the trouble of dragging it out. Trust me. They don’t call me the Oracle of Amazing Awesomeness for nothing.”

It’s not over until the fat lady sings, and Hera’s been mostly silent, so it seems I still have time.”

Artemis turned her gaze back to him. “Has it been worth the pain that you have been through over Daphne?”
Artemis, the moment she is in my arms, all will be worth the price I have paid.”

“And now, beloved, you have guessed my second specialty—songs for love.” He leaned forward and kissed her lightly, then strummed and sang, the song so sweet, so full of the love in his heart, that tears rolled down her freckled cheek, her face alight with her joy.

When he stopped playing, he could do nothing but move to her to kiss her tenderly, completing the circle of what he could tell her not with words, imparting his love through his touch. She twined her arms around his neck, and he held her small waist as he laid down and pulled her on top of him. Her red curls fell around them like a curtain, the light beaming through as the sun flashed with the beat of his heart.

Guest Post: All About Dita by Staci Hart

Dita in under 100:
A lover of love and all that surrounds it, though her own lovelife is a steaming hot mess. She's lived through eons, and is one of the oldest of the Olympians, even older than Zeus. She's friends with most everyone, though once she has a grudge, she hangs on to it for a very long time. Her best friend, Persephone, is the most important person in her life, and always makes her laugh. Dita also gives great hugs, loves bacon, and is a hoarder.

Profile:
Nickname: Dita (DEE-ta)
Looks like: 5'7”, long, wavy blond hair, blue eyes
Animal: Dove
Symbols: Seashell, Apple, Roses, Mirror
Goddess of: Love

Quotes:
Lex is a perfect match for him. She’s never been in love, so when it happens with Dean, it’s going to hit her like a freight train.”
The love train?”
Yes, filled up with chocolates, stuffed animals, and bad poetry. If I had to bet, which I realize we are, I’d say they’re perfect for each other.”

Perry looked up and smiled, but her mouth drooped when she saw Dita visibly upset. “What’s got your goat?”
Psh, please. No one has sacrificed a goat to me in eons.

“No, you know what?” Dita waggled her finger at him. “You’re not going to ruin this for me. Suck it, son!” She crotch chopped WWE style, slamming her arms across her waist in an ‘x’ formation. She spun around and marched to the elevator, her hair swinging in time with her hips.

“I just want them to be happy.” Dita said quietly. “There’s so much hate and hurt in the world, and so much unnecessary pain for Lex and Dean right now. They need each other. She can heal him, and he deserves something real and true and good in his life. He deserves to find home.”

Cover Re-Reveal: Snake in the Grass by Staci Hart

Snake in the Grass
by: Staci Hart

The truth changes everything.

It’s round two of high stakes Love Connection on Olympus, and this time, everything has changed.

Ares is on deck, and Aphrodite is nervous, because as much as she loves to hook up with him, she doesn’t trust him as far as she could throw him, which isn’t very far. She never could resist him, not even when every part of her screamed that he was a liar, but after the last game, she’s seeing things in a new light, light that has cast shadows across her entire life.

Ares has a plan to keep Aphrodite, for good this time. He wants to win the game, but he’ll hold back, if that’s what it takes. He’s sitting on a chance that was thousands of years in the making, and he’ll do what he has to do to convince her to stay forever. The only thing that could stop him is the secret that he’s been keeping for eons. If she finds out, it will destroy everything.

Aphrodite picks Kat, a gun toting drag racer, and Ares decides on Dillon, a badass boxer who never loses. Both of their lives revolve around keeping their siblings safe, and they’ve sacrificed everything to make sure things stay that way. They are tough and loyal, fierce and determined, but they become each other’s weakness, even though they fight it, and even though it means danger for Kat and her sister.
