It was one last mission. Shannon, a demon hunter with the agency, is looking forward to leaving behind the small town and the vampire she’s been stuck with for the past two years. Things are getting complicated fast and she wants out. A fresh start, free of her vampire partner, awaits her if she can survive their final mission and the lonely Christmas holidays.

It was one last mission. Rafe, a vampire doing time with the agency, watches it approach with dread weighing heavily in his stomach. Two years of working with Shannon has been difficult, especially since he started falling for her, but he doesn’t want their partnership to end. He has barely a few days to make her face her feelings and stop her from leaving, and he intends to do just that.

When a slimy demon threatens the season of peace and goodwill, it’s the chance Rafe has been waiting for and the moment Shannon secretly fears. Rafe’s determination to prise open her heart and her own resolve to keep it closed clash as violently as they do with the demon, and threatens to end as messily.

Can Rafe make Shannon see that his love for her is real and that she feels something for him too? Can Shannon face her fears and her past, and stop herself from running away from both? Will a wish on a star bring her what her heart truly desires—a vampire for Christmas?
Demons, vampires, and hunters are collide in Vampire for Christmas. This was an interesting combination of light-hearted with a bit of humor mixed with a darker paranormal element. Rafe and Shannon have been partners, hunting down random baddies - usually demons - for several years together, but now Shannon is being transferred and Rafe may never see her again. He's determined to show her his true feelings before she leaves - hoping he can convince her to stay with him.

Enter demon. And not just any demon. This one reminded of Slimer from Ghostbusters - only with a much worse attitude. While dangerous, the demon was a bit comical with his ooze and overall grossness. Heaton was able to use this to set up some really great scenes for Rafe and Shannon to interact and give them a chance to really open up to each other.

The biggest thing standing in their way is Shannon's past and her prejudice against vampires in general. She has a good reason, but she still isn't sure about bringing her guard down around Rafe even though they have been partners for years.

I enjoyed this story a lot - especially the demon, he's going to stick with me for awhile. I had a hard time really getting into Shannon's mind though. She ws closed off to the point that even as a reader it was hard to see into her, and I wanted a little more of that.

Asteria of the Second Legion of demons has messed up. Royally. With a capital everything. Certain that her dark lord is about to end her in the most painful way imaginable, she’s stunned when the fallen angel offers her an uncharacteristic shot at redemption—and determined not to fail him again. With her life on the line, she sets out on a mission that sounds easy but proves to be far from it when a hot slice of angelic eye candy comes storming into her life, stirring dangerous desires and tempting her more than any male before him.

Fifth Commander of the Echelon, the highest order of angels in Heaven and those responsible for hunting demons, he will allow nothing to stand in the way of fulfilling the mission he began close to a century ago so he can finally return to his home. On the verge of securing the half-breed he has been hunting, he can almost taste victory—until a sassy demoness struts into his life, awakening wicked needs and forbidden hungers that will test him to his limit.

When their mission brings them on a collision course, can they fight the fierce heat of the passion that blazes between them to claim a victory for their side or will it burn their resistance to ashes and set their hearts on fire with a love both forbidden and eternal?
Felicity Heaton pulls off a fast pace romance between a couple that is totally opposite of each other in every way possible and she leaves the reader wanting more when they are done reading.

There are a few stories that I read where I can tell the author had a lot of fun while writing and this is one of them. I especially love stories such as this because the characters really seem to come to life while I am reading them.

I know there will be other paranormal romance readers that will also enjoy both the story and the chemistry that flowed throughout the pages between Asteria and Echelon, as much as I did, so I recommend this novella to anyone that loves a good fast paced sexy PNR.

A powerful warrior and commander of the dark elf legions, Bleu is a loyal and devoted male, and one who has never failed in anything—except one thing. Love. When an elusive female dragon shifter surfaces in Hell again, giving him a mission to hurl himself into, he gladly returns to his hunt for her and the deadly blade she stole from his prince seven centuries ago, but as he closes in on his prey, fate reveals she is far more than his enemy.

Having escaped from the black market arena and her life as a slave, Taryn sets her sights back on the task she began seven hundred years ago when her brother stole a precious sword, but in the three centuries she’s been a captive, everything has changed. Corrupted by a craving for power, her brother has become dangerously obsessed with finding the blade and using it to claim the ultimate treasure—the position of King of Hell.

Faced with having to end her beloved twin brother to stop him from bringing all of Hell to its knees before him, will Taryn be strong enough to use the very blade he seeks against him? And when Bleu finally catches his elusive prey, will he listen to his head as it demands he complete his mission or his heart as it demands he claim his eternal mate?
Felicity Heaton never disappoints when it comes to creating a paranormal world and characters that a reader can truly fall in love with.

The story is very good and I enjoyed both Bleu and Taryn as a couple, I just had a few issues I myself couldn’t believe. Taryn is several centuries old and she is still a virgin and let’s not forget the fact she was also a slave by six different owners during this time. I’m sorry I just couldn’t fathom how she could still be a virgin after all of the time without some kind of explanation. Her character could have been a bit stronger for my taste too. I really liked her, but I felt she was really weak for the storyline.

Other than that, I found a lot of action, a very evil villain and a hot passionate romance between Bleu and Taryn and would recommend this series and book to all paranormal romance lovers.

Awakened by a Demoness – Excerpt
The festivities distracted him from thoughts of the demon and he managed to quell his mark, so the burning became little more than a dull ache.
Until his eyes settled on a female across the square from him, sitting on a stone ledge that was at least six feet high and formed a pathway that ended in steps that led down into the square to the right of her.
Not his target.
Something else.
He curled his lip at the sight of her, dressed in a rather revealing fashion of a short black corset and even shorter skirt. She swayed as she laughed, swinging a mug in her left hand and spilling some of the contents onto a group of males below her. They all stared up at her, enraptured. Well, almost all of them did. Judging by the angle of some of their heads, they were busy looking up her ridiculously small skirt.
Her wide smile flashed short fangs but it was the black horns that protruded from her long onyx hair and her gender that gave her away.
A demon, from the Devil’s service since that fallen angel had eradicated all females from the ranks of the species who had mutinied against him, those from the numbered kingdoms.
He had never seen a demoness.
He arched an eyebrow as he studied the crowd and noted that the demons from the numbered kingdoms kept their distance from her as diligently as they kept it from him. They were wary of her.
Why?
He stepped into the square.
Her laughter died on painted red lips and her face instantly sobered, her eyes leaping straight to him. They narrowed. The males below her all turned his way. Not demons. They were a mixture of fae and shifters if their appearances were anything to go by.
The demoness calmly set her tankard down on the stone ledge beside her, hopped off it and landed on her feet. The males stepped aside and she stalked towards him, the crowd parting for her and revealing her to him. She didn’t take her eyes off him, not even to acknowledge the males who wolf-whistled or called out lewd things to her.
Those males’ eyes followed her as she sashayed, swinging her curvy hips.
Temptress.
Her ways wouldn’t work on him though.
He stood his ground as she approached and resisted the urge to call his blade. Covert. Causing a scene in the fae town might cause his target to bolt if she was near or heard about the fight. As much as he wanted to cut the demoness down, he had to remain calm and in control.
She stopped right in front of him, tipped her head up and flashed him a smile that made her ethereally blue eyes shine brightly amidst the sea of black she had daubed around them.
“What’s an angel doing here?” she said in English and looked him up and down.
Her smile grew a little wider when his right hand twitched at his side, eager to call his blade, a reaction he hadn’t been able to hide.
She could see through him.
He had never met a demon who could tell he was an angel before. His wings were hidden, his clothing of mortal fashion, but she knew what he was.
He had a flash of her looking right at him the moment he had entered the square.
Entered the vicinity of her senses.
She had felt him.
“What I am doing here is none of your business.” He schooled his features, hiding his curiosity from her and the slow trickle of other emotions. Not fear. He did not fear her. “I should ask you the same thing, Demon.”
“Ah, but I asked first.” She twirled the gold-to-crimson streak down the right side of her hair around her slender fingers and shrugged her bare shoulders. He refused to look at them. He would not be tempted. Her smile widened. “So… what are you doing here?”
Irritating and persistent, two things guaranteed to make him strongly consider ending her. He never had liked being questioned.
She stepped a little closer, tilted her chin up to keep her blue eyes locked on his, and he barely resisted the urge to shove her away. Her tongue poked out and she caressed the tip across her red lips as she assessed him again, slower this time, those dazzling eyes lingering on places they shouldn’t. His right hand twitched again. Her smile returned.
“Not the talking type?” she murmured and sidled closer, until her darkness wrapped around him, making his skin crawl, and he was on the verge of snapping. She canted her head, twisted that coloured length of silken hair around her index finger again, and dared to run another appraising glance over him. “You are a little tempting… and I would probably bang you… but you’re just oozing goodness and I might vomit.”
He backed away a step and scowled at her. Infuriating demoness.
“I would never touch you,” he bit out and her smile only widened, as if he had flirted right back at her rather than turned her down.
She sighed dramatically. Twirled that infernal stripe in her hair again, drawing his eyes to her hands and her black claws. They jumped from there to her horns.
“Like what you see?” she whispered huskily. “They would feel fucking amazing rubbed against that.”
She ghosted a finger up and down in front of him, gesturing to his body.
“Although, I bet that would also feel fucking amazing under my hands.” She wriggled her fingers and edged them towards him.
He flashed his teeth at her and backed off another step. “Dare… demoness… and I will cleave your head from your body before your hands could even reach me.”
She shrugged again. “Your loss. I’m amazing in the sack.”
What was with this female? Was she trying to rile him?
He realised that she was doing a damn fine job of it. He was playing right into her hands. He set his jaw and glared down at her, and her smile went a little wider.
“That’s more like it. Give me the evil eye. For a moment back there, when I was with my guys, I had an inkling you were trying to look up my skirt or something, and it was a little icky so I thought I would see to it you got your dick on straight and remembered your position… the one that is not under me.” She folded her arms across her chest, causing her breasts to squeeze together in her short black leather corset, and cocked her right hip. Crimson tipped black swirls snaked over that hip, emerging from beneath her pleated skirt to dance across her toned stomach, and his eyes caught on them, followed them down. They covered her entire right leg, visible beneath her sheer black stockings. She huffed and threw her hands up in the air. “And he’s staring again. Like what you see? Want a picture for your spank bank?”
Dear lord, what was wrong with him?
He took another step back, fixed his eyes firmly on her face and shoved any curiosity about her tattoo away. His right hand twitched again. She noticed it.
“You want to go at it? You’re gonna have to pick what it’s going to be though… fighting or fucking?”
“Neither,” he bit out and shoved his hands in his jeans pockets to stop him from calling his blade. “Leave my sight, Demon.”
“I was here first. You leave mine.” She turned and waved a hand across the air. “This whole town is mine… so get out. Shoo.”
She turned back towards him, an expectant look on her face.
“I said shoo.”
He shook his head. “I said no.”
She canted her head again, and when she spoke, the venom and other disturbing thing that had been in her voice was gone, leaving it sober, and laced with curiosity. “Why are you here?”
“It is none of your business.” He went to turn away from her. She reached for him and he whirled on her, his right hand rising to slap her one away, and she staggered back, blinking hard. It seemed the powerful little demoness wasn’t as fearless as she pretended to be. He narrowed his eyes on her. “Why are you here?”
She backed off a step and scowled at him. “I’ve had enough of angels looking at me like that over the past two days… as if they want to nail my entrails on their wall like art… one far stronger than you… so do not think for a second that you can intimidate me.”
But he had.
He did.
He intimidated her and she had done a good job of concealing it, but then her mask had slipped and she had revealed her fear to him.
He frowned at what she had said.
An angel far stronger than him.
The Devil?
She preened her small black horns with trembling fingers, stroking them from the root behind the pointed tips of her ears to the sharp ends near her lobes, and her obvious attempt to calm herself failed. Her face blackened.
She swept her right hand through the air between them and glared at him, her eyes growing black and pupils becoming elliptical and beginning to burn gold.
“I don’t give a flying fuck what business you have here but you better stay out of my way.” She flashed vicious fangs at him, turned on her heel and stormed away.
He watched her go, cocked his head to his right as he tried to make sense of her. He had felt her darkness, she oozed it the same way as he apparently oozed goodness, and yes, it made him want to vomit too, but there was something different about her.
Something off.
She sauntered through the crowd, ridiculously tiny pleated black skirt threatening to flash her underwear as it swayed side to side and her long fall of black hair brushing across her lower back and shoulders.
He thought about turning away and searching for his target elsewhere, but ended up skirting the packed square, slowly moving towards the side of it where the demoness had hopped back up onto the wall and was talking with her group of slavering males again.
He pushed her out of his mind, but for some damn reason, his gaze kept drifting back to her and his mind would follow it, replaying their conversation. She had been flirting with him. As much as that disturbed him, it confused him too. He idly rubbed the cross on his right inside wrist as he studied her, putting her subtle nuances to memory while his mind traversed back over everything she had done. She feared him, but she was curious about him too. Why?
He had never met a demon who had openly approached him before, seeking him out. She hadn’t known he wouldn’t strike her down, so what had possessed her to come to him and provoke him?
She was either braver than he believed or foolish.
He edged closer to her and leaned his back against the stone wall of the building joined to the steps that led up to the raised pathway where she sat, swinging her legs and almost taking out the eyes of several of her suitors with the spiked heels of her black leather knee-high boots. One of the males offered another pewter mug to her, and she took it with a wide smile and winked at him. The wolf shifter practically panted in response, and he was surprised the male didn’t howl in victory, sure he would be the one to bed the female.
Dear lord, she would probably bed them all at once if she had her way.
She seemed a virile, wicked little creature. Wicked enough to offer her body to an angel.
He reminded himself that she had merely been teasing him, but it didn’t stop a disturbing ache from starting inside him, a dangerous sort of hunger that he fought to suppress, putting it down to her teasing ways and her irritating him until his guard had dropped, allowing that teasing to affect him.
He jammed his right hand back into the pocket of his black jeans and ran his left over his unruly blond hair, brushing the finger-length strands back from his face. It was getting too long, but he had been too caught up in his hunt to find the time to have it trimmed.
The demoness flicked a glance his way over her left shoulder, one that she had no doubt meant to be covert but had been blatantly obvious. She toyed with her silvery tankard and went back to flirting with her brood of males.
He focused on her, centred himself and purged all emotion as he allowed calm to sweep into his mind and his soul, emptying them both. When he had found his balance in amidst the silence, he called on his other gift, the one that was rare among angels now.
The ability to read intentions.
It was slow to come as always, steadily building inside him as he focused on the target he wanted to read. The demoness.
He wanted to see if she had come to this place to merely enjoy the festivities or whether she had a different agenda.
His gift triggered.
Nothing.
He frowned, put it down to distance, and moved a few steps closer. He focused on her again, called on his gift and let it wash through him.
Again, nothing.
His frown grew deeper, and he tried again. And again. Every time, he couldn’t pick up anything from her, but he could read the males at her feet like open books. They were thinking about being the one who would take her back home, or to a nearby room or alley.
One seemed rather intent on seeing all of her tattoo, and that desire drew his gaze back to her legs. He couldn’t see her right one from this angle, with her slightly in front of him on the raised stone platform beyond the steps to his right, but he could catch the red tips of the swirls that arced over her right hip to the small of her back.
The black cross on his wrist burned. He idly rubbed his thumb over it, trying to soothe the mark. He knew there was a demon present, it didn’t have to keep reminding him. He wasn’t here to hunt her though. He was here on a mission.
A mission he was ignoring while he tried to figure out a demon of all creatures.
He pushed away from the wall and turned to leave.
“Can you do me a little favour?” The demoness’s voice curled above the crowd, soft and gentle, a flirtatious edge to her English. “I need some info.”
That arrested his steps and he frowned as he listened hard, struggling to hear her over the noise of the chatter of those in the busy square and the music. What was she up to?
He turned his head slightly towards his right, enough that he could see her out of the corner of his eye.
“Have you seen a female in town… a young woman,” she said.
His blood dropped a degree.
She couldn’t be.
“She’s a friend. Around five-seven, with short brown hair and matching brown eyes. I’ve heard she runs with a coven… one called Cruyssen, I think.”
He spat out a curse, his only vice.
Cruyssen.
He had the sinking feeling that his mission had just become a lot more complicated at the critical moment, and that he knew the reason the demoness was in town.
She was after the half-breed too.

Here’s more about Taken by a Dragon, including an excerpt from this paranormal romance novel.
Taken by a Dragon by Felicity Heaton
Possessed by a need to save a beautiful Amazon warrior from the vision he witnessed, Loke snatched her from the midst of the battle between the Third and Fifth realm of the demons, and carried her to his home deep in the black mountains of Hell to protect her. But as the fierce little female awakens, he finds she’s anything but grateful, and his dragon instincts roar to life to warn she might be more to him than an enemy—she might be his fated female.
Anais remembers meeting a handsome warrior in the heat of battle, a man who was her enemy but who looked at her with eyes that held dark heat and wicked promises. When she wakes to find that same dragon shifter has taken her captive, desire is the last thing on her mind, but escaping him to return to Archangel, the hunter organisation she works for, sounds less than appealing when he reveals the reason he took her—to stop her from dying.
Can Loke protect Anais from the dangers of his realm and how far will he go to save her from the future he keeps witnessing? Can Anais resist the fierce attraction that burns between them as hot as fire and stay true to Archangel or will her heart be taken by the dragon?
Taken by a Dragon is available from Amazon Kindle, Kobo Books, Barnes and Noble Nook, Apple iBooks stores and other retailers. Also available in paperback. Find the links to your preferred retailer at: http://www.felicityheaton.co.uk/taken-by-a-dragon-paranormal-romance-novel.php

Excerpt

“What do they call you?” Loke said, his voice distant to his ears as he stared deep into her eyes, picking out every fleck of black that marred deepest blue.
Would the skies of her world look like that? Would they be so deep and rich, or lighter?
Was she really mortal?
Could she answer his countless questions about her world and sate his desire to know more about the land his people had left behind, never to return?
“Anais.” She offered it with a slight smile that barely curved her rosy lips but added a touch of warmth to her expression, softening the harder edges of her eyes and entrancing him.
Not a trace of fear touched her gaze or her scent now. She flitted from afraid to calm, dancing between the emotions so quickly that he couldn’t keep up. He wasn’t sure how long this calm phase would last, but he meant to do all in his power to make it remain. He wanted her to feel at ease and to begin to trust him.
“They call me Loke.” He offered it with a smile of his own, one that felt foreign to him. He couldn’t remember the last time he had smiled.
“Like the mischievous Norse god?”
His smile stretched a little wider and he shook his head. “My name ends with an E in your tongue.”
She raked her eyes up him, from his bare feet, over his legs to his torso. It slowed from there, drifting at a leisurely pace, one that stirred heat within him. He couldn’t remember the last time he had experienced that either. What was it about this female that had him quick to smile and even quicker to hunger for her touch?
Her gaze finally reached his face and narrowed. “You are definitely mischievous.”
Before he could gather his wits to respond by saying that if he was mischievous then she was mysterious because he couldn’t get a firm grasp on her when she bounced so swiftly between polar emotions, she turned away and headed towards the back of the cave, her boots loud on the black rocky ground.
“Where do you go?” He started to follow her when she made it past the fire and didn’t stop walking.
She looked back over her slender shoulder at him, a wicked twinkle in her eyes. “You only forbade me from going near the mouth of the cave. You didn’t set out any ground rules about the back of it. I’m going to see where the tunnel goes.”
“It goes to chambers. Some where I store meats and things I have gathered, others where I bathe, and some go deep into the mountain to places where dangerous things lurk.” He frowned when she pouted, as if he had spoiled her fun.
Perhaps he had.
Perhaps he had also ruined a chance for her to become more comfortable in his home, and around him.
Would she like to see the rest of the cave?
He could join her in her adventure, although he supposed that would make it more like a tour. He didn’t want her to go alone though. He hadn’t lied about the dangerous things that lurked in the tunnels. They ran deep into the mountain and sometimes fissures opened where creatures could get into them. He had disturbed a nest of Hell beasts down one of the paths before and had barely come away with his life. The tunnels were too small for him to transform in, placing him at a disadvantage against the vicious creatures in close quarters combat.
“So none lead to a big hoard of treasure then?” The wickedness was back in her blue eyes and she flicked her blonde ponytail over her other shoulder as she came to face him.
She toyed with the ends of her hair as he frowned at her, trying to unravel the riddle of her, distracting him with a sudden desire to do that. He wanted to feel the strands wrapping around his fingers before slipping from them. Would they feel silky? He bit back a groan at the jolt of pleasure that ran through him as he imagined they would and brought his focus back to her and what she had said.
She meant to mock him again.
Loke huffed and grudgingly admitted it. “I have a little gold.”
He didn’t like how she smiled, as if he was predictable and she knew him. She knew nothing about him.
“Can I see it?” she said.
He shook his head, flatly refusing her.
Her smile dropped off her face. “Why not?”
“I have decided it is off limits.” Mostly because he had weapons there too. She still eyed his knife from time to time when she thought he wasn’t paying attention to her. She wanted a weapon she could use against him. He wasn’t about to show her where he kept his, issuing an open invite to her to take one and try to stick him with it.
She crossed her arms over her breasts again. “You can’t add rules now. I make no promises that I won’t go back there while you’re sleeping.”
Loke cursed himself. She had just pointed out a major flaw in his plan to keep her safe. She was liable to move around while he was resting and might even attack him, or attempt to leave. She was a warrior. A little Amazon. One of a legendary race known for their cunning. She would take whatever chances he gave to her, whether it was kill him and escape, or just escape.
But she kept telling him that she wasn’t an Amazon, and the longer he was around her, the more he believed she was telling the truth, even when it seemed impossible. He would try to force a confession from her again. If she stayed true to her story, then he would somehow convince himself that she was mortal, even when all the evidence suggested otherwise.
“Are all Amazons as strong as you are?”
She rolled her eyes at him. “I’m not an Amazon.”
She lifted the right sleeve of her black top, revealing a thick red gash across her upper arm. The scent of her blood hit him and he took a step towards her, his eyebrows dipping low as he stared at the wound darting across her pale skin.
“You are hurt.” He realised that she had flinched when he had grabbed her because he had pressed down on the wound, not because he had used too much of his strength on her and his grip had been too tight.
How had he failed to notice her injury?
Loke was closing in on her before he was aware of what he was doing. She didn’t back away. She stood her ground and it pleased him. She was beginning to trust him.
He slowly reached for her arm, giving her time to adjust to his proximity, and she didn’t resist as he carefully curled his fingers around the underside of her upper arm. He gently raised it and frowned at the deep gash. It required attention, but he wasn’t sure how she would react.
This close to her, it would be easy for her to land another blow on his balls if she didn’t like what he was about to suggest.
“It requires healing.” He lifted his gaze to hers.
She seemed so small when he was close to her, standing almost a foot shorter than he was and her frame tiny in comparison. It ramped up his need to protect her. Such a small female shouldn’t be on a battlefield. It was suicide.
She surprised him by nodding and lowering her eyes to the wound.
He dipped his head and swiftly ran his tongue across the wound. She gasped and pulled free of his grip, her shock rippling through him and mingling with his own.
“Your blood is weak.” He stared at her as it sank in. “You are mortal.”
She threw her hands up in the air. “Hallelujah! He finally gets it. I’m mortal. Mortal! This cut might get infected. It’s ragged and I’m filthy. Heaven only knows I’m behind on my tetanus shots. If it doesn’t get proper medical attention, it could kill me.”
Loke wasn’t sure what tetanus or shots were, or what hallelujah meant, but he knew what infected and death were.
“Die?” A vision of her splattered with blood and gasping for air as she stared at him with wide fearful eyes blasted across his mind and he growled as he shoved it away and shook it off. “It is merely a scratch.”
“I’m not like you, or any of the insane things that live in this world. Where I come from, even a scratch can turn septic. A scratch can kill me.”
His lips flattened as he took that in. He had heard mortals were weak but he hadn’t known just how weak they were. She seemed so strong, but perhaps he was mistaken. Perhaps she was weak and this cut was the reason he kept seeing her death on repeat. He needed to heal it, and not only to see if it would halt the visions.
Her confession that mortals were weak enough to die from a mere scratch had cranked up his need to protect her. While she was in his care, he would ensure that she didn’t gain another scratch. Not even a prick on a sharp rock.
Loke gently took hold of her arm and marched her over to the furs. He piled them in a way that would stop any rocks from jabbing her and pressed on her left shoulder until she huffed and sat down in the centre of them. Satisfied that she couldn’t pick up another injury, he set about tending to the one she had already gained.
He kneeled before her, keeping hold of her right arm as she wriggled and tried to escape him.
“Be still. You want the injury seen to and that is what I will do.” He grabbed the hem of her black top and pulled it up.
Her fist connected hard with his right cheek, knocking his head around and making his teeth clack together.
He growled at her, flashing those teeth. “What was that for?”
“Keep your damned paws to yourself, Buddy,” she snapped and shoved at his other hand, trying to get it off her top.
He released it and sat back, waiting for her to calm down. When she switched to attacking the hand he had kept on her arm, he realised he would be waiting a long time and gave up.
“I only desire to help you. I need to heal the wound… and your garment appears to be flammable.” He pointed to it and her eyes shot wide at the same time as the scent of her fear swept over him.
“I don’t like the sound of that.” She began clawing at his hand again, attempting to prise his fingers off her. “You’re bloody well not going to breathe fire on me!”
A reasonable assumption, but wrong again. Well, he was going to attempt to not breathe fire on her anyway. There was a slim chance he might accidentally do it. It was difficult to control and there was such a fine line between heat and fire.
He wouldn’t tell her that though. “Only a little heat. No fire. I swear. It will kill any bad things that might be at the wound site.”
She stilled and stared at the cut on her arm, her expression shifting constantly. He couldn’t decipher what she was thinking, but he guessed she was considering the pros and cons of his offer.
Finally, she pulled her gaze away from the cut and looked right at him again. She didn’t speak or nod. She just grabbed the hem of her top and began pulling it up, flashing a toned flat stomach.
He released her arm so she could remove the garment, doing his best to keep his eyes off what she was revealing to him. He could understand her reluctance to strip. It placed her in what she probably imagined to be a precarious position, and that was the reason he was going to keep his eyes off her body.
And the fascinating garment she wore over her breasts.
He had never seen anything like it.
She laid her black top across the equally dark garment, covering herself, and held it there with her good arm.
“Do it.” Her voice was steel and determination, confidence that he couldn’t sense in her. He could only detect fear.
She was good at concealing her feelings in her voice and expression, but she couldn’t hide them from him when his senses were so acute and her scent gave them away.
Loke leaned in and focused on the gash on her arm, refusing to let his gaze stray to her body. He licked the cut and then drew in a deep breath. She tensed, the scent of her fear growing stronger. He murmured a quiet reassurance in his native tongue and then pursed his lips and blew on the wound, careful to hold back the fire and give only enough heat to seal the cut.
She cried out, the sharp sound echoing around the cave and stabbing through him. He whispered softly to her, driven to comfort and soothe her, and then blew another wave of heat along the length of the cut. It drew a whimper from her that hurt him worse than her cry of pain. It made him want to stop and he had to battle that urge, forcing himself to continue. It was for her own good. Just one more and he would be done.
She reached for him and made it as far as grabbing his bare shoulder to shove him back when he blew on the cut again and she clutched him instead, digging her short nails into his flesh. She grunted and tensed, every inch of her stiffening. Her top fell away from her breasts and he had to close his eyes to keep himself from looking at them.
He swiftly licked the wound to cool it and then pulled back, breaking free of her grip and settling on his heels.
She breathed hard, her chest rising and falling, tempting his gaze. He kept it pinned on her face, trying to discern whether she was angry with him, or afraid, or perhaps both. He wasn’t sure he would ever come to understand her when the rapid shifting of her emotions had him constantly on his toes, but he studied her anyway, attempting to decipher her mood. He wanted to learn about her. He wanted to understand her.
He felt sure that if he gained that understanding of her that he would finally be able to set her mind at ease and make her feel more comfortable around him.
She scowled at him and then looked down at the cut.
After a full minute’s silence, a flicker of gratitude coloured her eyes and sent an unsettling sensation through him, and she opened her mouth to speak.
He looked away from her, not wanting her to thank him, because he didn’t deserve it. She’d had no injuries he could see or smell when he had met her on the battlefield, which meant he must have caused her wound when he had grabbed her or during their flight to his home.
He had vowed he wouldn’t hurt her, but he already had, without even knowing it.
He would have to be more careful if he was going to keep his promises.
The heat of her gaze burned into the side of his face, the softness of her skin was branded on his, and the taste of her coated his tongue. He had a sinking feeling that he had to be more careful in general when around her. She was temptation incarnate, a beauty who stole his breath and had him thinking dangerous things, the sort that would only give her more reason to believe him a monster capable of hurting her.
She roused the deepest dragon instincts he held, the most primal of needs.
The need to protect her.
The need to possess her.

Excerpt

He was a wicked man.
It thrilled her but Cait hid it behind a smile, concealing how he made her heart flutter and her body heat with only a handful of words and a sultry smile.
She had come into Underworld seeking sanctuary, backed into a corner and in need of a crowded place where the male after her wouldn’t dare do anything. He had ambushed her when she had been making her way to the club and she’d had to fight him to get him off her tail. She had barely escaped, twisting free of his clutches as he had attempted to get a wretched restraint on her.
She was no tame kitty and she didn’t want a collar, and that was exactly what the male hellcat intended to give to her.
Plenty of fiery females of her race had met their end in a piece of steel and leather, reinforced by magic to subdue the wearer and place them under the control of another.
Their ‘mate’.
That wasn’t the life for Cait, and if she had to run forever, she would keep on running until she met her true mate, the one fated for her.
She glanced across the heaving nightclub towards the shadowy corner where the big dark-haired male lurked. She could feel his eyes on her and she refused to let him fluster her. She was safe here. He couldn’t do anything in such a public place except glare at her.
If he were foolish enough to try, the staff would step in to protect her.
The owner in particular would. Kyter had always been good to her whenever she had braved leaving Hell to visit his club. He would keep the big male away from her.
Maybe the man opposite her would too.
There was something about him that drew her to him. He felt dangerous for a mortal, an edge of darkness lacing his scent, and power. There was a sense of menace in his looks too, in the intensity of his fierce gaze. He was right and he was a man who could handle himself, despite the fact he was mortal. That sensation of danger had drawn her gaze to him the second she had walked into the club and the sight of him had stopped her in her tracks.
He was handsome, an example of male perfection with his high cheekbones and defined jaw that framed a straight nose, sensual bowed lips and eyes that shone with intelligence and confidence, and a glimmer of darkness. His short dark hair, black jeans and shirt were a contrast to the paleness of those eyes that made them stand out even more.
They were green.
She had been itching to know their colour since setting eyes on him. With every change of song, she had come close to leaving the dance floor and approaching him, barely stopping herself and then finding the strength to resist when the next tune began.
She had given up her fight against his dark allure when Kyter had spoken to him and she had realised that the male knew the big jaguar, and had heard their conversation. One of the perks of being a hellcat. She could tune out any noise in order to focus on one in particular. She had snooped, and what she had heard had been enough to pique her interest and shatter her weakening will to resist approaching him.
A hunter.
His pale green eyes darted between hers and she could sense his eagerness as he held her hand close to his lips, on the verge of kissing it. Cait wanted to push her hand forwards and make him do it, as eager for him to kiss it as he was.
She played it cool instead.
“I’m not sure I should promise to make your wildest dreams come true when I don’t even know your name.” She smiled and he echoed it, his profane lips curving wickedly again.
For a mortal, this male was dangerous beyond all expectation, but she didn’t mean it in the violence and strength sense this time. He was dangerous on another, intimate level. He wreaked havoc on her body and her control, every smile or glance pushing her closer to the edge and making her want to give up the charade they were playing and kiss him.
He wanted her.
She could see it in his eyes and feel it in the way he touched her, his light caress making her burn inside.
She wanted him too.
The game they played was pointless and stupid. Dancing around their mutual desire only made them have to wait longer to get what they wanted.
A taste of each other.
She had waited too long as it was, passing years without a male’s touch, leading a solitary life in Hell. She had grown bored of the hunt and the thrill at the end of it almost a century ago, craving something more than brief trysts with males, even when she pretended that hunger didn’t exist. She had decided long ago that she would spend her life free of the complications of relationships and she had stuck to that plan for countless centuries.
That vow had shattered the moment her gaze had met his across the nightclub.
He had awakened desire in her again, passion that had been dormant and now felt as if it would consume her, need that burned so fiercely she feared it might rage out of control if she didn’t find a release for it soon. Just a glimmer of satisfaction.
A single kiss would do.
For now.
She twisted her hand in his, reversing their positions, and brought his hand to her lips. Her eyes held his as she pressed a kiss to it and breathed him in, his rich scent of spice and fire, and something else branding itself on her senses. What secret did he hold that gave him the strength to fight demons and powerful fae and survive? Whatever it was, it was in his blood, lacing his scent, making it dark and alluring.
His pale green eyes narrowed on her lips where they pressed against his callused large hand.
“Owen,” he muttered and then his voice gained strength as he straightened and lifted his eyes to hers. He looked as if he was gauging her again, studying her reactions. “Owen Nightingale.”
Cait could see why he had been watching her closely now, eyeing her like the hunter he was, no doubt putting everything about her to memory so he could note it all down later.
Including how she reacted to hearing that he was a member of the most illustrious hunter family to have ever existed.
Did he think she would turn tail and run on hearing that he was a Nightingale?
She wasn’t afraid. She was impressed. The perfect and handsome Owen had just become a shade more perfect for her.
“I’m Cait, with a C.” She twisted their hands again and shook his.
He raised a dark eyebrow. “Like Cat, with an I?”
She shrugged and nodded. “My parents thought they were being cute.”
Owen looked her over, a leisurely raking of his eyes from her head to her toes that set her on fire.
His expression gave nothing away, not a single thought or feeling.
“Maybe they thought you were cute and deserved a cute name to match.”
Gods, she wanted to ask what he thought but bit her tongue to stop herself. “Most people don’t think hellcats are cute.”
“I’m not most people.” That flicker of wickedness was back in his eyes as he gave her another once over. “But I can’t really judge whether you’re cute or not since I’ve never seen a hellcat in their true form.”
Cait narrowed her gaze on him and shot him a sultry smile of her own. “I know you’re dying to see me in just my fur.”
He looked as if he might blush, but rallied and fixed her with hungry eyes that left her in zero doubt of his desire. “I wouldn’t say no to seeing you naked.”
She flushed all over, hot from head to toe at just the thought of getting naked with him. She leaned closer, reached her right hand out, and stroked her fingers down his chest. It was as hard as steel beneath the soft material of his black shirt. She heated further, burning hotter as she raced to imagine just how good he would look naked, that honed body on display for her hungry gaze to devour.
Cait wrestled for control over herself and won, refusing to let him fluster her when she was trying to fluster him.
She tilted her head to one side and looked deep into his piercing green eyes. “What’s your view on interspecies relationships? You must like tangling with other species since you’re a hunter.”
His sensual lips quirked into another smile. “I’ve tangled with many species… but never with a hellcat.”
“No?” Cait leaned closer, feeling a little breathless as she narrowed the distance between them. “You don’t know what you’re missing.”
Owen mirrored her, moving closer, his heat washing over her and his heart thumping like a drum in her head, a beat hers tried to match.
“I think I do know.” He raked his dark gaze over her again and scrubbed a hand down over his mouth. “But I wouldn’t say no to finding out.”
