Professional mercenary Dare Macintosh lives by one hard and fast rule: business should never be personal. If a cause appeals to him and the price is right, he'll take the mission he's offered. But then the lovely Molly Alexander asks him to help her track down the men who'd had her kidnapped—and for the first time, Dare's tempted to combine work with pleasure.
Fiercely independent, Molly vows to trust no one until she's uncovered the truth. Could the enemy be her powerful, estranged father? The ex-fiancĂ© who still holds a grudge? Or the not-so-shy fan of her bestselling novels? As the danger heats up around them, the only anchor Molly has is Dare himself. But what she feels for him just might be the most frightening thing of all…

Sexual
Dare heads south to Mexico to retrieve his friend Trace’s sister, Alani. Alani has been kidnapped by white slave traders. Once Dare arrives at his destination, he finds another woman who was being held, but not for the slave trade. Molly was kept separate from the other women. She was abused (not sexually), beaten and tortured. Mission completed and Alani returned home safely, Dare now has a “complication”. Molly wasn’t reported as missing and no one was looking for her. Dare decides to take her to his home. Molly promptly hires Dare to safeguard her and find out who would want her silenced.
The relationship between Molly and Dare develops quickly, even though Dare does not mix business with pleasure. He is the ultimate alpha male: Protective and possessive. But Dare is also gentle, giving and tender with Molly. To a point that she thinks Dare isn’t interested in her.
Not only was her hair frazzled and unkempt, but she had zip for makeup, and the physical mistreatment she’d suffered still showed in the hollowness of her eyes and the marks on her skin.
She looked as wretched as a woman could look, so why had she thought that Dare would want her? Her come-on had probably been embarrassing and uncomfortable for him.
Molly is strong and independent. At times, it gets irritating. Her favorite line is, “I’m fine.”
It annoyed Dare, the way she insisted that she felt fine. Anyone could see that the remnants of her nightmare still dragged at her..
The suspense is on the light side. I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop with a THAWAK!! Now, don’t get me wrong, this is a very good tale and the connection between Dare and Molly is scrumptious.
I’m hanging on by a thread here. I was just buying some time to get myself under control.
I just need more action/adventure/edginess with my suspense. Dare’s assistant and best friend, Chris, is one character that I would like to see more of. Unfortunately since Chris is gay, I don’t think Ms. Foster has a book on the back-burner for him. If you are a fan of Ms. Foster, by all means put WHEN YOU DARE on your TBR. The cover alone makes it a keeper!
