Warm up your winter blog tour with Caris Roane
Please welcome paranormal romance author Caris Roane!
I’ll be sharing an excerpt today from GATES OF RAPTURE that will give you a powerful introduction to Leto, the warrior vampire who’s been going through hell and really needs his woman to come back home! Just for you here today at BBPR, I took the excerpt from chapter one, all about Leto when he transforms from man to his beast state, something new to the series. He’s in his basement, with no way out, the safest place for him when he transforms. His thoughts are focused on his woman, Grace, and on his despair at becoming something he despises.

Characterfest interview #21 with Endelle by Caris Roane
Please welcome Endelle and Caris Roane
A Fashion Critique,
by Endelle of Second Earth, with Caris Roane moderating…
Caris Roane cocks her head at the leader of Second Earth. “So, how did you develop your unusual sense
of fashion?”
Endelle bursts out laughing, then says, “One gaudy piece of
shit at a time. And yes, before you
state the obvious, it has been said that I look like I’m dressing for a
Halloween party every day of my life and why the hell not?”
Caris shakes her head and glances at her notes then back at
Endelle.
The Amazonian Second Ascender is wearing some kind of black
leather bodysuit, pieced together like a quilt with ribbing between of banana
python. Her large breasts are barely
covered, but a clever ‘shrug’ climbs up her neck to form a tall collar and add
interest to the ensemble. The collar
supports her mass of curly black hair that rises to a strange height and which
is held in place with a gothic crown of intricate yellow-and-black beadwork. Beautiful, outrageous, artistic and insane.
Caris smiles.
“Endelle, you’ve always made me laugh.”
Endelle loses some of her vintage abrasiveness for a
moment. “Hey, that’s my job. Writing is hard work. I try to make it easier for you.”

Interview with paranormal romance author Caris Roane + giveaway international
Please welcome paranormal romance author Caris Ronae here on Bitten today!!
Laurie-Hello, Caris! I want to thank you for letting me pick your brain again LOL. First I have to know who’s the couple in book 4? You’re killing me with the cover because so far all of your covers have men with wings and this cover has a woman with wings, so who is it??? PPPLEASSEE!!
Cairs-You should know by now it takes so little to prompt me to share anything about my Guardians of Ascension series. Book #4, which is BORN OF ASHES, is Warrior Jean-Pierre and his woman, Fiona, who you have already met in WINGS OF FIRE! I can hardly wait for you to read the fourth book, because of all my warriors, Jean-Pierre is the most tender. He also has a killer French accent!
Laurie-Why did you choose to write romance?
Cairs-It’s all Jane Austen’s fault! She may be considered a literary icon, but for me she told great romances! The truth is, I’m a sucker for a happily ever after story, one in which the hero and heroine have some serious growing to do but once they get there, the passion is amazing and you have a real belief that this couple is going to make it over the long haul.
Laurie-What was the most difficult thing you had to do in writing this series?
Cairs-Raising the bar again and again! By book #3, I could see how easy it would be to fall into the trap of repetition. So, even with some of the usual elements I include in each story, like ‘spectacle’ or ‘bonding elements’ or ‘preternatural power’, I found that it became critical to change things up with every book and to make sure that each story had plenty of surprises for the reader. So, yeah, keeping things fresh and moving forward in interesting ways has been the most challenging.
Laurie-What was the easiest thing you had to do in writing this series?
Cairs-Well, actually, to be quite honest, *blushing*, I think it’s been the love scenes. Once I have a strong feeling about my hero and heroine, the scenes where they are together in a romantic, physical way just seem to flow. But what’s been so interesting to me about each couple is how different they are when it comes to the bedroom. It’s been a surprise and an absolute delight.
Laurie-As you know I love your World of Ascension series and I know all about the hotness that you have going on in the books *still fanning self*, but I am sure I have a few followers that knows nothing about your series, so would you tell them a little about it?
Cairs-Here’s my Guardians of Ascension soup-stock recipe: TAKE a band of hunky vampire warriors with wings, ADD heroic women with emerging power in need of protection from the enemy, FOLD IN desperate situations because the villainous Commander Greaves is intent on taking over both Mortal Earth and Second Earth, THEN ADD a world of six ascending dimensions and SPRINKLE LIBERALLY with heinous death vampires who must survive on dying blood or perish. Finally, GARNISH with one snarky, profane, Amazonian woman, who is extremely fashion-challenged, but who serves as the Supreme High Administrator of all of Second Earth. Serves: unlimited!
Laurie-Do you have a favorite hunky warrior yet? If so who?
Caris-My favorite warrior is always the one I’m writing at the moment, so that means I’m totally into Thorne right now. But when I go back and read the stories of the four preceding him, I’m right there, in love with each all over again! So the real answer is no, of course not!!! No favorites here!
Laurie-Now, on to the love scenes *clears throat* no, I’m not going to ask how you prepare for them, nope so not going there LOL. I want to ask do you have a favorite love scene between a couple in this series? I know each couples are different when it comes to these scenes and as you write them they become a part of your life in return they really stick in your head and heart, so I’m hoping you have an extra special scene that really stuck with you.
Cairs-Well, it’s not that it’s my absolute favorite love scene of the series, but it’s one that surprised me in the funniest way. I had finished WINGS OF FIRE in November of 2010. But I didn’t work on the revisions until the following March, so I’d been away from the book for awhile. I’m reading along, and I get to a scene where Antony says, (P. 233) “I’d ask you to open your eyes and look at me, but I have something different in mind.” (This is the love scene that takes place in the turret room. OH, you’re blushing again! Well, you asked!) But here’s my point, when I read that sentence after four months away from the book, honest-to-God, I had no idea what Antony was talking about. I couldn’t remember what I’d written! So, I read on completely anxious to find out what Antony was going to do to Parisa! I thought that was pretty awesome because it meant that when I originally created that love scene, I was soooo in the moment, that I just went with it. I think it’s a great scene because he coaxes Parisa to use one of her special powers! Man-oh-man, I wish I could bestow on all your readers even one of these paranormal adventures! Wouldn’t that be amazing!
Laurie-What’s been the best thing that has happened since you became a writer?
Cairs-Meeting people like you! You’ll probably think that’s cheezy, but it’s really true…assuming of course that you’re not asking about the writing itself, which is also an amazing experience. But what I’ve truly come to treasure are the people I’ve met along the way, those wonderful people who have extended themselves to me in super-generous ways, whether expressing their delight in my work, or whether it’s a fellow author who can commiserate on the darker days, or fans who can’t get enough! That kind of interaction and feedback has been awesome!
Laurie-Can you give us a sneak peek of what’s to come? Anything juice?
Cairs-Oh, boy, Laurie! I’ll refer back to the answer I offered earlier when I said it’s all about raising the bar! When I began Thorne’s book, I wanted something really special that would take this wonderful man from a place of despair and rage, to one of tremendous growth, and that’s exactly what happens to him in OBSIDIAN FLAME. I mean, I love where he ends up soooo much on every possible level! But it’s with his woman that I’m pleased the most, because they have a new shared power that takes their passionate love to a whole new level…*growwlll*! I’ll take a risk here, and share a couple more details. As you know, in my series, deep-mind engagement is part of the experience between a warrior and his woman and I’m sure you know how great that is for them, how much pleasure it brings them. But in Thorne’s book, their shared emerging power takes place within each of their minds and I describe that power in great detail. But low and behold, that power has another application. Without going into too much detail and ruining the surprise, I’ll just add that Thorne is able to enter this new power of hers, just as she can enter his, and the result is absolute FIREWORKS!
Was that juicy enough?!?

Caris Roane Bio:
Caris Roane has loved paranormal elements in romance for decades and some of her earliest novels included vampires as well as characters from Greek mythology. Having been published for over two decades, she was thrilled to receive the Romantic Times 2005 Career Achievement Award in Regency Romance.
In recent years, she tackled the warrior vampire myth creating a world made up of ascending dimensional earths. Second Earth, a global society caught in a deadly war, is the world of the vampire and for some mystical, magical reason, her vampires appeared with enormous beautiful wings. Flight now forms an integral part of every novel of her Guardians of Ascension series.
Because writing is both a lifestyle and a passion, Caris spends part of every day writing.
She lives in Arizona with her two cats, Gizzy and Sebastien.

Oh My Goodness! Caris Roane does it again with Wings of Fire it’s super-hot and exciting, I loved it! This has become one of my favorite series because Caris is consistent in keeping the romance tops along with the paranormal elements complex, clear to read and exciting.
Anthony and Parisa romance sizzled on these pages. When we last left these two in the second book, Parisa was taken by Greaves. This book starts off with Anthony still looking for Parisa and he has been for a while. He will not stop until he finds her. Parisa wants to escape from Greaves, but she hasn’t been able to just yet. While being held captive Parisa meets a lady that she finds a connection to and really wants to help her, but with no way to even help herself get out she sure can’t help anyone else, just yet that is. Graves is having a woman put to death to only be brought to life again and it‘s not pretty. Once Parisa finds this out and she escapes no one will stop her from trying to save this woman, even Anthony.
Once Anthony and Parisa are back together they have a lot on their plate, but the one thing they can’t escape from is the breh-hidden. I myself found this book way hotter in the romance and sex department than the first two. This couple is very special and let me tell you once they start their Breh-hidden OMG. It was different hot and awesome. I give you a couple of clues floating and wings on fire. Once their Breh-hidden starts, something bad starts happening that could cost all of the warriors everything.
Again you meet the next hero and heroine in this book so you get a good feel for them, I just love that. You also get the other warrior and their now wives along with the head honcho Endelle. I can’t wait for the next book to come out, I already like the heroine.
This is one hot fast pace action story that no PNR reader should be without. Although this can be a standalone I would suggest starting from the beginning or you’ll miss some good stuff. Glossy is in the back.
This is one of the best series I have come across. I love how each book has a buildup that gets better and better as you read.

interview and giveaway with paranormal romance author Caris Roane
Please welcome one of my favorite fast growing authors in the PNR world Caris Roane!!
I’m a fulltime writer, which means I have the best job in the world. I have two children, grown. I live in Arizona with my hubby and two cats, Sebastien and Gizzy. Before I wrote paranormal romance, I wrote Regencies for Kensington, but that market all but disappeared in 2005. Having included vampires in one of the Regencies, it just wasn’t a stretch for me to embrace the extraordinary and exciting paranormal market. In fact, some of my earliest Regencies even had characters from Greek mythology; Eros, Psyche, Anteros, Aphrodite and Artemis!
Do you have a process in your writing routine?
Since all my writing time is consumed with my Guardians of Ascension series, I’ll take you through that process, which is awesome, because it all starts with focusing on my hero—and I’m sorry, but what can possibly be better than that?!? In this case, for instance, I’m writing Thorne’s book so let me tell you I carry that man around in my heart right now. He’s just awesome (besides being totally gorgeous)! From there, I bring the heroine into sharper focus, deepen her, asking questions like, why is she worthy of Thorne? In this case—and this is for fans of the series—Thorne knows extraordinary things about Marguerite that nobody knows. But getting to that point, of knowing Thorne and knowing his woman, is a challenge. I have to think and ponder and question. A lot!
At the same time, I work on structuring the plot. Where plot is concerned, I map all the events out based on the hero’s journey. I’m a huge fan of this particular concept which involves, in a nutshell, character growth. Essentially, the plot must show how these two characters grow: in this case, Thorne and his woman. It’s a difficult challenge but soooo rewarding when it all comes together!
What are some of your favorite author’s and books you’ve read?
Sherrilyn Kenyon is one of my favorite authors and so is Laurell K. Hamilton. Now let me tell you what I think they did that I still find mind-boggling; both of these authors made me fall in love with their leading men. I’m still amazed by that. I can remember the exact scene in which Ash came into supremely sharp focus for me (Zarek’s book). And I’ve been a devotee of Jean-Claude’s from the moment he stepped on the stage. I still have a fantasy that Laurell will start a new series from Jean-Claude’s point-of-view! I think I would turn serious groupy for that one!
Would you tell those who haven’t heard of your The World of Ascension series a little about it?
Well, it’s easiest to begin this way. When I really looked at the Greek mythological scope of the Dark Hunter series, I thought, “I want a world as big as that one, so that if I fall in love with my characters, I can write many, many books based on that world.” From there, I thought, why not create a world of ascending dimensions, in which the inhabitants of each dimension, as they develop new preternatural power, find themselves in the midst of a call to ascension and therefore a call to a new world and a new state of being. Second Earth, for instance, is the world of the vampire. In fact, all the ascending kingdoms are inhabited by vampires. But it’s very possible that Third Earth will have greater evolutions, shifters maybe, I’m not sure yet. The possibilities are endless and that was the goal. If Sherrilyn wanted to, she could explore a hundred different aspects of Greek mythology and keep building and expanding her world forever.
I have seen quite a few reviews where people said your book Ascension reads like other PNR author series. I am not naming the author because I am sure you know. In your own words would you tell what sets your series is apart?
I know what you’re getting at and though I was surprised at these reviews, I think any writer who attempts a brotherhood series, and there have been many before me and will be many after, will find comparisons inevitable. But in this case, what sets this series apart from my point of view, is that each of the women in my world, as novel builds on novel, develops extraordinary emerging powers that shape the course of the world. But to be a true brotherhood book, I also worked hard to build up each of the men, as well as how they relate to each other and to their peace-keeping job generally. Beyond that, my vampires have wings, which means that flight is a huge part of the series. And as I said before, the world is enormous, with six ascending dimensions!
How in the world do you come up with different powers for the heroines?
I have to say this is one of the most fun parts of this series for me, perhaps because it’s mostly an organic process! I don’t just sit down and assign a power. Instead, what happens in my creative process is that I put the heroine into a certain situation, a certain problem or difficulty, then I watch what emerges. It’s been an amazing ride so far.
Will you write a book for Endelle?
Endelle! Don’t you LOVE her? I recently posted on Facebook that she’s the woman I would want to be if I didn’t have a conscience, if I had no sense of propriety, and if I didn’t have to get along with others at all! But YES, she gets a book and it’s the climax book of this part of the series, book #10! So, not only does all this grief with Commander Greaves draw to a conclusion, but Endelle finds love as well…and maybe a slight softening of her spirit (but not too soft)!
You have so many different wings, how do you come up with them all?
The wings! That was an organic process as well and started to really take shape in the first book when Warrior Medichi notices that Warrior Marcus’s wings have a light green banding on them! Then Medichi says, “The same color as Havily’s eyes.” So, there you go! From that moment, wing coloration would relate to some other aspect of the story, the setting, or the romance. In the fourth book, BORN OF ASHES, the heroine’s wing coloration has to do with an emerging preternatural power, but I won’t say anything more! (But it’s awesome!)
Anything else about your series you like to add?
Only that I see this first part of the series as consisting of 10 books total, and that all ten books are building to a terrible war in book #10 (as well as love finding Endelle!) It’s a huge challenge to carry around ten books in my head, so before I begin the next book of the series, I reread everything I’ve written before and I take notes. My sincerest hope is that when all ten are completed, the whole group will read as one complete story, just broken up ten times…or something like that!
Would you tell us a little of what you’re working on next?
I’m writing Thorne’s book right now, OBSIDIAN FLAME! This is the book that many fans have posted about—when will it be Thorne’s turn? Of course, he’s the man, the one in charge, the one who’s carried the load for two thousand years, so yeah, we want him to find love and peace and finally get some rest while he continues to soldier on as the leader of the Warriors of the Blood. This book will release in May of 2012. (Jean-Pierre’s book, BORN OF ASHES, releases in January of 2012.)
Fun questions
What your favorite color?
Hands down, green, especially on the mossy side. Next in line is dusty rose.
Do you have any pets?
I love animals. At one time, I had three goldfish, very big, fat, and spoiled, which lived for ten years. I also had four cats and two cocker spaniels. But life took it’s course and now I have only two kitties with me. I’m hoping to get a dog in the next year. I miss my cockers!
What your favorite movie and TV show?
I think “The Good Wife” is one of the best shows on TV and I also adore “Castle”. When “American Idol” rolls around, I never miss an episode. I also can’t get enough right now of the houses that Sarah Richardson renovates…HGTV! Go figure!
Do you have a favorite food or place to eat?
I LOVE Mexican food and we have several restaurants in the Phoenix area that do the cuisine proud!

Burning Stakes is one blazing hot read. I believe this is going to become one of my favorite series very quickly. Why, you ask? Well, I love the way this author is keeping the romance in the main focus of the story. It’s easy for some authors to get carried anyway with huge storylines and a lot of added characters and miss the romance, when this happens I lose interest very quickly because I am a romance reader first and far most. Caris keeps the romance fresh and different between books and I love the way she weaves the other characters in and she still gives you a small peek to who is going to be next, so you get to have a good feel for them before their book is introduced.
This book is about Marcus and Havily. I really enjoyed reading both characters. Marcus is strong and he can be demanding, when the time is called for. Havily is very powerful and confident, when the time calls for it. The romance between these two starts right off the bat, oh yeah; this is one hot book from beginning to the end, very different from the first. The sexual tension and romance build is still there, but these don’t fight it as much, oh no, they go at it like some love sick bunnies LOL.
I am enjoying reading the crazy mad lady, her supreme highness Endelle. She may think she runs the show, but as each woman comes aboard they end up kicking her butt. It’s fun to read how miss high and mighty can be brought down a few notches in each book.
There’s still some cussing, but very mild compared to the first book, so for those of you who doesn’t like a lot of cussing this one is a lot calmer. My reasoning for not giving this book a 5 is I have always had issues with the hero being able to do things and the heroine can not. As in hero looking at other women’s boobs, (twice while the heroine catches him and she doesn’t really mind) but the heroine can’t even have a connection with another man (as a friend) without the hero going ape and using sex to make her see things his way. Nope, not for me, it’s just too much of a double standard for me to enjoy. This only happens once, so its not an huge issue.
I recommend this series to anyone who loves romance and danger. Warrior Antony Medichi is next and I can’t wait to read it

Caris Roane has an awesome start for a hot paranormal romance series in The Guardian of Ascension Series. I found Ascension very compelling and thrilling to read. I have seen some compare this to other major paranormal romance authors, I didn’t see this one bit in fact, I like the way Caris stuck more to the romance in her story then other authors and with the touch of Sci-Fi world build with the characters traveling between different dimensions, oh yeah, defiantly very different from the rest and explained easy.
In this book you get one hot vampire warrior and one sexy very dangerous heroine. I like that the author wasn’t afraid about creating a very strong heroine, so much so, her power can kill people and it does (you'll have to read and find out who). Alison is no ordinarily human. You’ll just have to read to find out what all this extraordinary this woman can do. I wouldn’t say the hero Kerrick is tortured, but he has some issues that take a bit to overcome, but he is always proud of Alison no matter what she throws at him. I loved how the author bought these two together and build their romance. The sexual tension is smoking all the way through the book, the sex is very steamy, but there’s not a lot of it and it takes a long while to get to it. Yeah, I know I don’t have to have it that much, but crap the tension was so hot it was killing me LOL.
The other warriors in very present in the story and the author also gave a peek to who may be the next mate for a couple of them. It just makes reading a series so much exciting because you cant wait for the next book to see what’s going to happen.
Now, I want to say, the author has a very deep storyline with a lot going on, plus quite a few different characters, so be preprepared for going back in fourth between characters. It can be confusing at first until you get to know them, so just take your time. The cussing can be a bit much, so if your one who doesn’t like it be prepared.
I recommend this to any paranormal romance lover. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed in trying this series, especially if you love romance with some dangerous action.
