My Review:

Great characters, great story and steaming hot scenes fill the pages of this erotic Sci-Fi romance. And what a sexy cover — yum!

If you haven't read any of Ann Mayburn's stories, you are missing out on intriguing characters, great plots and usually some steamy scenes.

Prince Devnar Haylen is a Jensian ship's captain and warrior whose home planet is desperate for women since only one in 20 births is female, polygamy and bisexuality are the norm and nature has worked its magic so the men have evolved with some interesting erotic traits and soul bonds with mates. He's kidnapped while raiding a freighter which turns out to be a trap by a sadist to trap another female.

Melania Ophrim is a breaker — a trainer of of honored novices and concubines. It is forbidden to orgasm with those they train so she can get very sexually frustrated until she can spend "weeks in a sexual frenzy with willing males trying to soothe the need for release". Unfortunately, not only is she considered ugly by her planet's standards but her planet was almost destroyed by over population centuries ago so everyone but the upper class and royalty has been reversibly sterilized to prevent pregnancy. On her planet marriages are made for political gain and concubines are kept for love and children.

A good plot with great sex. A little bondage, a little M/M, two hot ménage à trois (M/F/M) scenes {fanning myself, trying to cool off} and some dominance and submission.

Those who aren't really into Sci-Fi will still like this because Mayburn does a good job of keeping the Sci-Fi as a background enhancement to the plot and not a major character in the story. Romance fans will enjoy this because even though there is a lot of steamy sex, it really has a romance. Erotic romance fans will enjoy this because there is a good plot to go along with all the steamy scenes.

Interview with by Ann Mayburn

Hell~ 1641

Dressed in my most conservative gown, I try to appear calm and rational in the face of one of the most handsome men I’ve ever seen, mortal or demon. My pitiful attempt at appearing unaffected by him fails miserably as he undoubtedly catches the scent of my arousal. Striving to regain the upper hand, I flip unroll the parchment and read the same greeting I’ve read at least a million times before. “Thank you so much for agreeing to meet with me, General Raum. As you know High King Satan has charged me with the privilege doing a complete census of Hell and after three hundred and eighty five years we’re proud to have finally reached your region.”

Raum’s full lips quirk into a smile that makes me want to toss my dress over my head and bend over the chair while shouting ‘Take me now!’. His voice caressed over mine like silk as he murmured, “I’ve never met anyone whose punishment in Hell included doing an utterly boring census for all eternity.”

I bristle at his obvious smirk and straighten my shoulders, wishing I had spent more time on my hair this morning. “I’ll have you know that-“

He leaned forward, cutting me off as his hands grasped together with his silver claws gleaming. “I’m sure this is all fascinating, but if we could get on with it I do have other duties to attend to other than humoring a damned soul...even if you do have a lovely set of tits.”

My cheeks heat with a flush and I return my gaze to paper on my lap, refusing to feed him anymore lust. “What do you do for a living?”

He gives me a droll look and says, “I’m one of the Generals in service to Asmodeus, High Prince of Hell and Keeper of the Deadly Sin, Lust.”

“Who are your parents?”

A hint of fang shows as he smiles and I shiver. “My mother is a succubus and my father is the High Prince, Lucifer.”

Succubus, didn’t that figure. I wonder if he’ll haunt my dreams tonight or if it will just be my own wishful thinking. “What is your birth order? Do you have any living siblings?”

He leans back into his chair, the black and silver dragon skin molding to his hard body like shinning paint. I make a mental note to wear a chastity belt during any future interviews with the denizens of Lust. “I’m the only child from the union between my mother and father. I have thirty nine half brothers and sisters, thirty eight from my mother’s side and one from my fathers.”

“What were three things you liked to do as a child?”

He gives me a bland look. “Seriously?”

I lift my chin and meet his gaze even as my nipples peak into aching points. “I did not write these questions, General, they come from the High King.”

“I liked women with full breasts, men with tight arses, and a hot mouth on my cock.” As I gape he gives me a wink filled with all the sin in the world. With a start I remember that a demons ‘childhood’ lasts three hundred years, well after they’re physically matured. At my glare he grins and says, “I was a precocious child.”
I somehow manage to keep my tone even as I ask the next question. “What makes you happy?”

He gestures to the room, a well appointed library in his country estate in Hell. “All that you see here, including my concubine, Kirin.” He looks over my shoulder and smiles. As I turn my head I catch a glimpse of a rugged man with curly dark hair and the hard features of a fighter. I recognize the Roman eagle tattoo on his forearm from my days as a mortal. Dressed only in a pair of dark leather pants he saunters into the room and my pulse races. His dark gaze rakes over me and I wet my suddenly dry lips.

Kirin leans against Raum’s chair, his hand stroking over Raum’s chest with a languid caress. “What do we have here, Master?”

“A poor damned soul doomed to asking the most asinine questions for all of eternity.”
My hands shake as I grip the questionnaire tightly while trying to keep from hurling it at their heads. “Just because I’m not a solider or a wizard doesn’t mean my job isn’t important. I enjoy serving the High King and even though you think it’s foolish, by doing his work I know I’m doing my own small part to make Hell a better place.”

Raum tilted his head and looked at me with a flash of interest in his gaze for the first time since our meeting. “I’m sorry I offended you.”

Slightly mollified I let out a deep breath. “Can we continue please?”

“No.”

“What?”

Raum tugs Kirin down by his curls and whispers something in his ear. The sight of those two men, wrapped together in such an intimate embrace sets my blood and body on fire. They must have sensed it because a moment later Kirin gives me a smile that seems to send all the blood in my body pooling to my groin.
“You’re right, Master. We should apologies for being so rude.”

With a chuckle that sounds more like a purr Raum stands from his chair with an elegant stretch, the blue sheen of his skin sparkling in the light coming through the window overlooking the rose garden. Kirin moves behind him and helps ease his tunic over his head, licking a path along the exposed skin, his pink tongue shocking against the pale blue flesh.

“What are you doing,” I manage to stammer out even as I sit on the very edge of my chair, straining with all my might to memorize this image forever.

“I’m going to show you what makes me happy.”

His words rush through my mind, a flurry of mental images in their wake. Full breasts like my own, a tight ass like Kirin’s and most of all the thought of wrapping my lips around his length, sharing that hard bulge in the General’s pants with his concubine. Their hands grasp me, strong and sure before lifting me from the chair and showing me a pleasure of such depth that I know understand why human’s sell their souls to the devil.

My Review:

Short and sexy! This is the first in Mayburn's new Prides of the Moon series which is part of Decadent Publishing's 1 Night Stand series.

Madame Eve of the 1 Night Stand dating service works her magic again in this thirty-eight page short.

Sabrina, a werepuma, is set up for a one night stand but hopes they'll be her mates. She's "two natured" (i.e. bisexual) and "sex between werepumas wasn’t just physical, but a magical exchange of energy that satisfied her soul as much as her body." At first her glance of Madeline, Sabrina is disappointed at her "soft and cuddly kitten" look but then she meets her eyes and sees the strength she's looking for.

Madeline and Nick, mated Alphas of the Amber Moon pride, have been set up for a one night stand but are hoping to find someone to complete them. Madeline is instantly attracted to Sabrina, she is physically her opposite. She's glad she asked to meet her alone first. Madeline loves Nick "with all her heart ... but feels they are incomplete". Nick is at first upset with Sabrina for endangering Madeline with her little stunt but is also attracted to her

This has F/F, F/M and F/M/F and I rate it Hot! (3/4) on the heat scale. If F/F makes you squeamish, this may not be for you.

I read it in one sitting, along with the next two shorts in Mayburn's series, and enjoyed it.

My Review:

Wow! This first in Mayburn's For the Love of Evil series is a very sexy paranormal romance/fantasy with lead characters who seem almost corporeal or incarnate. In it, Mayburn presents a creative and unique vision of Hell.

Set in both Kazan, Russia in 1870 and Hell, Mayburn is careful not to let historical aspects take over the story. It is mainly a background to highlight the treatment of women, especially unmarried ones, and the beginnings of the Opium addiction epidemic in Russian at this time.

Natalia, the female lead, is 22 and has found, much to her shame, that recently pain has been quickly mutating into pleasure. She's afraid she's going insane. A strong young woman, she defies the social conventions when she deems necessary. When she sees Raum/Vicktor, something inside her wakes up and cries out for him.

She meets the demon High Prince Asmodeus in the forest and he tells her not only is he her true father but that she was "born to help maintain the balance and keep Heaven and Hell from falling into chaos", that her "gifts are lust, bloodlust, and passion" but she doesn't need to kill to satisfy the boodlust, just "bleed [her] enemies and taste of their flesh". Not in a cannibalistic way, a lick will do.

Raum, the son of a succubus and Lucifer as well as a general in Asmodeus' army, is ordered "to watch over [Natalia] and help her through her time of transition". Additionally he is to "seduce her and help her embrace her shadowy heritage" but most importantly, to keep her alive. Raum feels like Natalia belongs to him when he meets her in the guise of an old family friend, Vicktor. He suspects she is his blood-mate.

Later after she has been somewhat intimate (i.e. third base) with Gregor, Raum/Vicktor tells her that she can use anyone she likes "but [her] maidenhead belongs to [him]". Alpha much?

Lucky Natalia! She falls in love with three gorgeous males and as the half demon Princess of Lust, she gets to keep them all. When she lets go of her proper virgin self and starts to embrace her demon half, she has hot, sexy interludes in all kinds of places: bathtubs, fields, forests and even a brothel. There is something for everyone {grin}: M/F, M/F/M, some F/F exploration and talk of M/M with a single M/M kiss.

I absolutely adored this story and am eagerly anticipating the next book in this series. Fans of paranormal romance, fantasy and urban fantasy should put this at the top of their wishlist.

Warning Spoiler Alert!!!
This does have a HEA ending ... sorta. If you call still being in danger from several different demons and having the pressure of being the one who is supposed to 'keep Heaven and Hell from falling into chaos' as still having an HEA. But hey, she has her three loves and she is supposed to keep everything in check through her love; so maybe it is a HEA ending after all. {grin}

My Review:

This is a novella of Mayburn's Chosen by the Gods series, #1.5 in the series, if you will. A succubus, the Brazilian Carnival festival, voodoo, a sexy Chosen warrior of Creation, a former dancer turned seamstress and a god of Destruction's minions come together in this sensual paranormal romance.

Once again Mayburn has woven realistic characters and a irresistible story line set in Rio de Janeiro just prior to and during Carnival to engage the reader from the start. Full of sarcastic and wry humor, it had me chuckling from the first page. Bes, a War god of Creation and a patron of music, dancing, humor and sexuality as well as a protector of women, introduced in Blessed (the first book of the series), makes an appearance in this story as well. Being a novella, this is a stand alone story.

Carmella, the heroine, is plagued by self worth and self respect issues, has terrible nightmares and has no idea she is possessed by a succubus. She sees Sean and it is like he is the sun warming her - it has been forever since she has desired anyone.

Sean, the hero, is a DJ, musician and part of a music and dance entertainment troupe as well as a Chosen warrior of Creation. When he sees Carmella, even disguised in dreary clothing 3 sizes too big, he gets hard. He thinks she may be that "special soul that resonates with" his own.

Sean asks Carmella to teach him some traditional Brazilian dances and it turns into a very sensual display leaving him hard and her wet. Later, wow, that man does oral sex proud. My, my, my, the things that man does to her without physically touching her. And the shower scene...steamy! The man is so talented and I haven't even started to talk about his music yet. On a sexy scale, this is a 2 out of 4 (but only because for most of the story Carmella is a virgin).

Fans of L.A. Banks' Vampire Huntress Legend urban fantasy series might notice a vague plot similarity but Mayburn does it without blood sucking vampires and in true sensual paranormal romance fashion.

A great short story that can be read in one sitting, it is not to be missed by paranormal romance fans. I can't wait for the next full length story in this series.

My Review:

This is the first in Mayburn's new Chosen By The Gods series. A little slow to start out but it revs up nicely to be a sexy paranormal romance. While not your typical "monsters" tale, it features the Chosen, humans who are selected by the various gods of Creation and Destruction and enhanced to serve their gods' needs in the human realm and in the war of good versus evil. It has a good story line with many possibilities for future books in the series.

The female lead, Eliana, is a 20 yr old college junior at a university where magic is also taught which is new to her since she grew up and lived in a "dry" or magic and religion free town.

Aiden, the gorgeous male lead, is the youngest High Priest of Oden in the country who just received his doctorate last year and is one of Eliana's professors.

Things heat up and sparks fly when Aiden first sees Eliana in his class and is tasked by Odin with mentoring Eliana who is totally out of her element since her parents are atheists. On a scale of 1-4 on the sexy scale this is a 2.5 with a very sensual pond scene and then some "getting busy" up against a Hummer.

While the ending was a little abrupt and the story left many unexplored relationships and situations, it left me wanting more, to know what comes next, to explore the possible relationships and problems hinted at - all in a good way. With a lot more "meat" this could make a nice basis for full length print novel. Can't wait to read her sequel, "Dance of the Gods", coming soon.
