Normal young women go on dates on Saturday nights. Paranormal investigator Betty “Boo” Boorman goes on ghost hunts in Savannah, Georgia, America’s most haunted city. She’s more comfortable around ghosts than guys, anyway.

A violent haunting forces Betty to team up with her rival ghost hunter, the arrogant Carter Lansford. When the violence is turned toward her, though, Betty knows she needs additional expertise. She enlists the help of a handsome stranger, who introduces himself simply as Maxwell, Demon.

Betty’s ghost hunting is cut short when she’s threatened and, finally, attacked. Either someone wants her to stay away from an investigation, or a demon hunter is targeting her. As Betty begins to fall for Maxwell’s mysterious charm, she starts to wonder if her life—and her soul—are worth the risk.

My Review:

3.5 Stars!!! A cute paranormal romance featuring ghost hunters, ghosts, demons, murder, kidnapping and an unlikely romance.

Betty "Boo" Boorman is a member of "the Savannah Spirit Seekers [who] have been investigating reported hauntings in Savannah, Georgia, for the past two years."

They get called to investigate a haunting with another Savannah ghost hunting team. During a press conference for the case, Betty notices a man staring at her from the shadows ... with red eyes! When the press conference is over she tries to find him but he's gone.

Later that night while finishing her wine at the bar, she meets a "most beautiful man" who tells her it's his job to know what to do to help her other client and gives her a card which reads "Maxwell, Demon" He tells her, "When you decide you want to know what’s haunting Sam MacIntosh, give me a call" and leaves. When Sam's case gets physical, Betty decides to call Maxwell for more insight into the case. They have dinner and he gives her something to get rid of Sam's haunting entity. She still doesn't believe Maxwell is a demon until after their second 'date' and then he proves it to her in several ways. Much to her consternation, she finds she's falling for him. When he tells her he's falling for her, she's lost.

A quick read and fans of ghost hunting stories and television shows should like this.

My Review:

This is a good historical western romance that ends up with not one but two romances with two more burgeoning romances. It also features a brutal massacre, a man with no face who stays in the shadows, betrayal, Indians, land grabbing cold murdering cattle barons, cattle rustling and a couple of subplots.

Mandy, the female lead, is a strong willed young lady whose father has been murdered leaving her a ranch that McCandle wants. She is able to talk telepathically with the Grandmothers and she sees visions. The Grandmothers tell her she is to marry Hawk but she doesn't want to nor is the alternative acceptable. It is not Hawk she objects to but marriage itself. She's dreamed of him for years and loved him for as long. She knows they've been together in other lifetimes she and is actually drawn to Hawk. He awakens feelings in her she didn't know existed. With just one smoldering look, he set her blood on fire.

Six year old Jordy McClain, raised by the Cheyenne, becomes Hawk (the male lead) - the "White Indian", when going to live with the Lakota after seeing his birth father murder his friends and their families. Hawk is a bit on the gifted side. He fights his attraction to Mandy even though he knows they are destined to be together. He feels his soul is already lost, he can't drag her down too. And when she learns his secret, he's sure she won't want him.

Hawk and Mandy are perfect for each other - both strong willed, stubborn and willing to do what needs to be done to get what they want - revenge.

The story has a slow beginning but like a snowball rolling downhill, or an avalanche, it gathers speed and mass. The first quarter of the book is told solely from Mandy's point of view. Then the story starts to get better when we get Hawk's point of view as well.

From the publisher's description I was expecting it to be more paranormal. A little mystical is a better description. Stick with the Goodreads.com description - it is more accurate.

My Review:

This is the second in the Second Chances series featuring an angel cast out of heaven, one of Hell's angels, an imp, a shade and an interesting take on Heaven and Hell. All is not all good nor evil in Zannini's Heaven and Hell.

This is a quick read and I have to give it a compliment, which for me is one of the highest I can give -- I didn't want it to end.

Most of the characters from the first book return here in the second:
- Liam, ousted angel and former soul harvester
- Michael, Liam's brother, one of Hell's angels
- Evie, an imp and sprite, Liam's nether
- Wilson, Liam's manservant
- Shannon, still a shade, still belongs to Michael and still loves Liam while caring for Michael as well

Along with a few new characters:
- Ziva, Archangel Gabriel's mistress, "as close to royalty as they had in the first plane of Heaven ... an Ascendant known for centuries as the 'Angel of Death'."
- Aiden, a detective, is investigating a demon's body found in alley beside Shannon's shop. Can see and talk to ghosts. Evie recognizes him as "the reincarnated spirit of a long-ago lover" from when she was a succubus; she'd never gotten over him.
- Cerberus, of three-headed demon dog fame, has a little secondary roll in this story.

The story begins with Liam getting drunk and lamenting the fact that not only did he get thrown out of heaven for not harvesting Shannon's soul, he lost her to his brother Michael as his shade.

Ziva comes to Liam with a deal he doesn't want to accept. Tells him, "But an ousted angel is a vulnerable angel. Heaven doesn’t want you and Hell just wants to fuck with you." She threatens the lives of both Shannon and Evie. Shannon unintentionally gets in the middle of things and in the end she is changed forever along with some others.

This is not strictly a paranormal romance, nor is it what I normally think of as an urban fantasy. There is still the romance going on between Shannon and Michael, Shannon and Liam and a rekindled romance between Evie and Aiden. And while it is a true paranormal romance between the secondary characters of Evie and Aiden, it is still a continuing story for Shannon and the brothers so theirs is more along the lines of an urban fantasy.

While this is a stand alone novella, I highly recommend reading The Devil To Pay, the first novella in the series first so you will know all the background to understand the relationships better.

This novella is twice as long as the first in the series; let's hope the trend continues and the third will be twice as long as this one. I eagerly await the next in the series.

My Review:

Outstanding! Who said men can't write good erotic paranormal romance with a bit of fantasy? This is an excellent story by first time author J. V. Altharas featuring shape shifting dragons and hybrid dragons (half human/half dragon).

What an imagination! The world of dragons and halfling dragons Altharas created is spectacular and he has such a way with words:
"A piercing cry split the night, and Lana’s whole world went grey as her body convulsed in orgasm.
She became the walking ivy, and the trees, and the birds. She felt wind rushing through her feathers, and rough bark beneath her tendrils. Lana was one with the forest around her for a few precious heartbeats. Her mind’s eye floated into the air, looking down on the landscape as if the whole of it had become her body…but Alaron wasn’t done with her flesh."

Lana is a healer and midwife for her village. Rumor had it dragons had taken over the forests near Lana's home but she'd never seen one on her forays into the forest. She needs to gather dragon bane from a pond in the forest to help try to cure the ill in her village.

She meets a "charming and attractive ... stranger", Alaron, at the pond where she was to harvest the dragon bane. She proceeds to seduce him while they both gathered the plants. Upon meeting him again, she begins to sense he is more than an "ordinary man".

Alaron is an alchemist among other things, tends the forest and is rather well endowed physically. He is quite taken with Lana as she is with him. When he asks her to become his mate, her world is turned upside down and she is thrust into a fantasy land of dragons and their descendents.

Seriously hot and steamy. A little bondage, a little spanking, voyeurism, a M/F/M/F four-some, a bit of F/F, a F/F/M three-some and a M/F/M menage, oh my...

Fans of the paranormal romance, fantasy and dragons genres should waste no time in putting this story at the top of their "to read" list.

My Review:

H. P. Mallory has come up with yet another delightful story and series. Humorous, good chemistry, fun characters, unexpected twists and turns, with ghosts, vampires, shapeshifting witches and warlocks, Lurkers, werewolves and demons. Drew me in from the first paragraph. It was a quick read, even at 382 pages.

Jolie, 28, is a tarot card reader with a small self esteem issue.

Rand, is a warlock who needs Jolie to go back to the 1920s with him to find out who killed his client, a ghost. Jolie says about him, "...Greek God, Sean-Connery-would-be-envious good looks that grabbed me first or his considerable height. It was his aura." With Brit accent, "His face was angular, and his Roman nose lent him a certain Paul Newman-esque quality."

Sinjin, is a vampire, Jolie describes him, "he was quick witted and ... well, sexy as a son of a bitch ... he was just scrumptious."

Trent, is the werewolf pack leader, another attractive male with charisma, who Jolie is able to bring him back to life after he is murdered and then he asks her out for dinner.

Odran, king of fairies, is another hottie who wants in Jolie's pants.

Jolie is very attracted to Rand but feels she is too plain Jane to ever attract him.

Rand tells her she is a witch to which she tells him he's crazy. Turns out she is and gets embroiled in a tug of war with several "people" who want to be her "protector" (read: slave) because she is very powerful with a unique power. Her world is turned upside down and she can no longer live in her non-paranormal world. She ends up in England being taught her craft by fairies.

Jolie has all these men suddenly giving her all this attraction and she is dubious of them all.

This is a laugh-out-loud funny paranormal story which I call a romance but some will call it a fantasy romance and some just a fantasy. Read it and make up your own mind while enjoying the story.

Warning Spoiler Alert!!!
Story continues into book 2 but will Jolie and Rand finish their romance? Or she and Sinjin wind up together? Is Trent completely out of the picture? And what of Odran?

While Jolie has one goal in mind, to stake the vampire, Ryder, who nearly killed her, she also must choose between the affections of her warlock employer, Rand, and the mysteriously sexy vampire, Sinjin. My Review:

This is the second in series and the continuing story of Jolie, a new witch who can bring the dead back to life. A mere six months ago, Jolie was happily reading tarot cards in her shop, blissfully unaware of the Underworld creatures ... ya know, vampires, ghosts, werewolves, shapeshifting witches, Scottish Fae people in kilts, demons and etc. Not only did she not know about them, she didn't know she was one of them -- a witch, a quite powerful and unique one.

"One thing I’d learned about the otherworldly is they’re a randy bunch…" and they all want Jolie, well they want her power and to have sex with her.

HP Mallory's stories are refreshing and hilarious. Some really funny lines in this one: "Unbelievable! Why was it impossible for me to get laid? Recently it seemed the most action I’d gotten had been at my last pap smear ... If there were such a thing as blue balls for women, I had them bad."
"Maybe I took Odran for granted but it was only because he regarded me as nothing more than a bun for his hot dog."

The story picks back up just after Jolie's battle with the fairy under the watchful eye of Odran, the fairie king who has promised his help in the war against Bella if Jolie is able to defend herself.

Rand, warlock, is still "male beauty personified".
Sinjin is still his gorgeous vampire self.
Trent and Odran are there as well gearing up for the war with Bella and her forces.
And they all still want Jolie.

Think of the battle as being something like Twilight Saga: Eclipse on a much larger scales with witches, wizards and Fae along with the vamps and werewolves. Only here Bella wants Jolie for her slave.

Jolie suddenly finds herself thrust back into Rand's past in the middle of the battle and find out something very important. I figured this twist with Rand in advance but it is a very good one.

This is another quick and fun read. This story ends with the action continuing again in the next book with more up in the air. I'm eager to see how Jolie deals with it.

If you like Molly Harper's vampire and werewolf series, you'll definitely like Mallory's series.

Can't wait to read the sequels to this and Mallory's other series: Great Hexpectations (Dulcie O'Neil, #3) which was just released Oct 2011 and Witchful Thinking (Jolie Wilkins, #3) coming in Feb 2012.

My Review:

This is a cute, quickly read, seventeen page short story with an amusing plot.

Ruby Prince is always freezing and has to find someplace hotter. She is “old enough to do whatever [she wants], and young enough to not always do the right thing" and is from a place “far, far away.” She thinks Nick is good looking and implies he looks like her father when she says, "I like men with widow’s peaks, a moustache, and a Van Dyke beard. You’re handsome in a rather old-fashioned way, which I find quite appealing."

Nicholas Masters, private investigator in Phoenix, really didn't want to take the case from the lady sitting across from him. She seemed like a nutcase. She wants him to find a place literally hotter than hell. In talking with her more, he begins to find her fascinating. She invites him to her hotel because she is just too cold in his office and although he knows he shouldn't, he does.

When she laughs, he feels it deep in his body and begins to want her badly. So badly he feels like it is possible he might rape her and he is not like that at all. Ruby notices his discomfort, apologizes, tells him it will be better soon and leads him to the bed to make love to him for hours.

There is a lot of foreshadowing in the story so the end isn't a surprise but it is fun getting there.

My Review:

It pulled me in from the first page. Claudy Conn has created a world of Fae and Earth where the Druids still have descendants working with the Fae. This is the first in Conn's Legend series where Fae, Dark Fae, Druids and 'vampire-like' creatures are out to protect, feed upon or ruthlessly rule over humans.

What would you do; how would you feel as a modern young woman of twenty-one, who, while you do have visions, thinks of yourself as a normal young woman, albeit with no love life to speak of, and then you're told some kind of mythical creature is out to get you? Well that's what Maxie is dealing with.

Maxie has visions and a legacy from 1814 hanging over her head, "Druids, Fae, and an evil vampire-type woman" as she thinks of it and now the "evil vampire-type woman" is going to be coming after her?

Julian Talbot’s been in a coma in Faery for the last 200 yrs since almost being turned into a blood sucking nightmare. Now he's cured and back in the present to kill Lamia before she can get to Maxine. He is stunned at how much she looks like his bride also killed by Lamia. Max is having a hard time with keeping her mind off the surly but sexy man who loved her namesake back in his time. Especially when she's had a crush on a painting of him hanging in her parent's home since her teens.

Breslyn, Fae prince and warrior, comes from the Fae realm to help Max. He calls her Lia, is gorgeous and "pure, primal sex" Although she is very attracted to him, Max knows he's Fae and will live virtually forever. She is continually reminded of the futility of getting into a relationship with him when he just poofs in and out all the time.

There is a lot of hot chemistry between Max and the two men even though Julian keeps putting out mixed signals. He pushes her away and then is very jealous when Breslyn pays special attention to her. And Bres does know how to treat a lady like she's the only thing that matters to him.

This has a very good story line, well developed characters, action, a couple of evil plots, chemistry and romance.

I think fans of the paranormal romance, fantasy and even urban fantasy genres should like this.

My Review:

Great characters, great story and steaming hot scenes fill the pages of this erotic Sci-Fi romance. And what a sexy cover — yum!

If you haven't read any of Ann Mayburn's stories, you are missing out on intriguing characters, great plots and usually some steamy scenes.

Prince Devnar Haylen is a Jensian ship's captain and warrior whose home planet is desperate for women since only one in 20 births is female, polygamy and bisexuality are the norm and nature has worked its magic so the men have evolved with some interesting erotic traits and soul bonds with mates. He's kidnapped while raiding a freighter which turns out to be a trap by a sadist to trap another female.

Melania Ophrim is a breaker — a trainer of of honored novices and concubines. It is forbidden to orgasm with those they train so she can get very sexually frustrated until she can spend "weeks in a sexual frenzy with willing males trying to soothe the need for release". Unfortunately, not only is she considered ugly by her planet's standards but her planet was almost destroyed by over population centuries ago so everyone but the upper class and royalty has been reversibly sterilized to prevent pregnancy. On her planet marriages are made for political gain and concubines are kept for love and children.

A good plot with great sex. A little bondage, a little M/M, two hot ménage à trois (M/F/M) scenes {fanning myself, trying to cool off} and some dominance and submission.

Those who aren't really into Sci-Fi will still like this because Mayburn does a good job of keeping the Sci-Fi as a background enhancement to the plot and not a major character in the story. Romance fans will enjoy this because even though there is a lot of steamy sex, it really has a romance. Erotic romance fans will enjoy this because there is a good plot to go along with all the steamy scenes.
