Bitten’s She-Wolf Pack Thursday Review for May – EDGE OF PASSION (Cloak Warriors #1) by Tina Folsom

EDGE OF PASSION (Cloak Warriors #1)

TINA FOLSOM
Published:  March 7, 2012
Paranormal Romance
Novel, ebook
Supplied by Author for an honest review

Able to render themselves invisible, immortal Cloak Warriors like Aiden have been protecting humans from the dark power of the Demons of Fear for centuries. But the demons might soon have a powerful tool in their hands to seduce humans to the dark side. And the person to provide them with this elixir is the human scientist Leila. Unbeknownst to her, the drug she’s developing to cure Alzheimer’s Disease has the unexpected side effect of weakening the mind’s resistance to the influence of demons.

The Council of Cloak Warriors is divided, some of them believing the only safe way to eradicate this threat is to eliminate its inventor; others are bent on protecting the human scientist. Aiden is a loyal Cloak Warrior who accepts the assignment to protect her, despite his own beliefs that humans can’t be trusted. However, when her life is endangered, his beliefs shift, and he’s drawn into a battle whose participants are unknown: is he fighting the demons or his fellow Cloak Warriors?

Forbidden desire flares between Aiden and Leila as they are forced to rely on the only people they can trust: each other. And even if he can save her and defeat their enemies, a union between them might be the most dangerous undertaking of all.

Dionysus, God of Wine and Ecstasy

Tina: “Today I’m interviewing a god, and frankly, I’m a little nervous. I mean, how do you address a god? Would it be something like “Oh, God!” or maybe “Dear God!”? It’s not every day I speak to a god. Maybe I’ll just play it saf, and address him the way his servants do. *clears her throat* Oh, mighty God Dionysus, it’s a pleasure having you here today.”

Dionysus *unleashed a devastating grin*: “You can call me Dio, sweetie.”

Tina *blushes down to the roots of her hair*: “Mmm, Dio, I now understand why you have such a reputation with women.”

Dio: “Call it what you want, sweetie, but I simply love women, no matter what shape or form they come in. There’s nothing more enticing than a woman’s body: curves, hair, scent, skin … hmm, just thinking about it makes me—”

Tina *interrupts hastily*: “Yes, yes, I understand. So, I hear that the goddess Hera played a little trick on you recently. Can you tell us a little about that?”

Dio: “Hera, that fu… excuse my Greek … my friendly stepmother. She’s not very fond of me. Guess I can’t really blame her. I’m a constant reminder of Zeus’ infidelity. Not that I’m the only one, but for some reason I’m always on her darn radar.”

Tina: “I feel for you.”

Dio: “Hera robbed me of my memory. I mean, what woman would do such a thing? You be the judge. But what she did to me was downright nasty.”

Tina: “I hear a lot of interesting things happened as a result of it.”

Dio: “Interesting? Make that humiliating. I had to work as a waiter. Can you imagine that? Me as a waiter? And of course all the other gods came to gloat and made me wait on them. Bastards!”

Tina: “But I understand that not everything was bad. There’s rumor that you’ve met someone special.”

Dio *smiles off into the distance*: “You should meet Ari. She’s lovely. So strong, so beautiful, with such a pure heart. Who could resist her? I didn’t want to see it at first, and I’m the first to admit that I treated her badly. I was such a jerk, but for Hades’ sake, I was scared shitless. I wanted her so much, I thought something was wrong with me.”

Tina: “But you came around and made it work.”

Dio: “We both did. She helped me see what’s important. It’s not chasing skirts for the rest of eternity, but it’s finding that one person who really gets you.”

Tina: “So what are your plans for the future?”

Dio: “Ari and I are gonna have a few heroes and—”

Tina *interrupts*: “Heroes? What are heroes?”

Dio: “Those are the children of a god and a mortal. We call them heroes. And *winks* we’re busy making heroes …”

Tina: “Well, in that case, I’d better not keep you any longer.”

Dio: “Appreciate it, sweetie. Hey, and if there’s ever anything you want me to do for you, just ask. After all, you wrote me the way I am, and I’m pretty darn happy.”

Dio is the star of A Scent of Greek, the second book in Tina Folsom’s Out of Olympus series. It is available for sale at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Apple iBookstore, Kobo, Google, and other online retailers.

Review A Scent of Greek by Tina Folsom

Title: A Scent of Greek (Out of Olympus #2)
Author: Tina Folsom
Source: Requested review
Genre: Paranormal romance

Ariadne is deeply hurt after Dionysus dismisses their night of passion as “just sex” and doesn’t want to see her anymore. When she finds him bloodied and beaten and suffering from amnesia, she quickly forms a plan to get back at him. As she pretends to be his fiancée, Ariadne makes Dionysus believe he loves her. But the longer the charade continues, the more difficult it becomes to really see who teaches whom a lesson.

And what if Dionysus gains his memory back? Will there be hell to pay for her deception, or can a mortal woman truly win a god’s love?

When the god of wine and ecstasy, Dionysus, callously dumps his latest conquest, the mortal Ariadne, the goddess Hera has had enough. She robs Dionysus of his memory to teach him a lesson in humility.

Tina delivers an awesome story in A Sent of Greek. It’s full of love, betrayal and some God playing fun. Oh yeah, it’s a hold on to your seat read that will have you really questing if this relationship will work or not. First off let me say Tina is known for her hot books although this one is pretty steamy, it’s not chucked full of sex. Please don’t get me wrong this is one sexy and satisfying read. You get a lot of sexual tension build after the first initial sexual encounter, I myself loved every minute of it. I have to add the cover is fitting for the God of wine and ecstasy. So, if your one that loves some sexy Greek Gods fun, you’ve go get this one.

I know you have heard the saying wine is better when it’s aged. Tina’s writing is just like that it gets better as it’s aged, in other words, the more she writes the better the books are. Yvette’s Haven is the best yet. I love how Tina took two enemies and made them just right for each other and the witch prophecy that’s added to the story it made it an even better read. Tina adds a lot of surprises along with twist and turns.I found them awesome, so my hats off to you Tina. I really hope that no one will tell them because that would just spoil the whole book. So, I am going to do my best not to do that.

Tina has become known for her spicy hot reads. This one doesn’t miss out on that spicy kick or sexual tension, but is not as hot as the others. *psst come closer, whispering* I don’t think you’ll even miss it;-)LOL. I know I didn’t as a matter a fact, I think Tina added the right about of each. It’s not all about the sex all the time. Oh my, did I just say that? LOL

Tina adds quite a few emotions, so much so, you might find yourself gasping or even crying at times. It had me oohing and aahing a lot. Yvette and Haven are really mess up. Both have had something bad happen to them in their past and they both have to overcome them before they can embrace each other totally. As they are fighting one bad witch they are also fighting the lust for each other. Both will go deep into battle with the witch and it may cost one of them their life. So, don’t miss this exacting vampire and witch tale of love and stopping a witch prophecy from being fulfilled. OMG! I want to tell who got killed so bad, (it’s killing me!LOL) but I can’t, all I can say is if you’re a regular reader of this series you can’t, I mean can’t miss this one. Tina done an awesome job with this story!

This story can be read as a standalone. Although I suggest you read in series order, but it not really necessary for this one.

Authors "Take On" Reviews Tina Folsom Day 3

Note: The event will not end on the 7th it will end on the 8th.

Today we have author Tina Folsom!

Is there something specific you look for in a review? If so what?
I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I love it when a reviewer loves my book, but really, what’s nice is when I find out specifically what they liked or didn’t like about it. I look for some feedback. Did they connect with the characters? Did they fall in love with the hero? Did the heroine have any too-stupid-to-live moments? All these things help me see my book more from the reader’s point of view and hopefully make the next one better. I also like to see reviews that give a good recap of the story with words different from my own. After all, a review is there to give other readers an idea about the book, what it’s about and whether it’s any good and why.

If you send your books to a book review blog is there something specific you look for when you’re looking at their blog?
I try to figure out whether the blog reviews books in my genre and sub-genre. There’s no point of sending an erotic romance to a blog that mostly reviews Christian fiction. You know they’re going to hate it.

What type of review do you like best: short or long?
Long - for sure. I like it when the reviewer took the time to analyze the good and the bad of a book. Frankly, that can really help an author figure out what to do better next time.

What do you think about spoilers in reviews?
Hate them. It’s not fair to the reader. Some of the plot devices are really crucial to suspense, and while I don’t write romantic suspense, I do have some important things that do get revealed later in the book. To let the potential reader know about these events, I think, takes away from the suspense I’m trying to create in my books. Nobody wants to know the end of a movie, the same goes for a book. Of course, we all know that the hero and the heroine will end up together, but what happens on this journey should be between the reader and the author.

Now, let’s talk about rating systems. On a scale of 1-5 stars, what would be your opinion of the ratings? Starting with the lowest at one first.
1. Absolutely hated it, had to force myself to finish it. How did this get published?
2. Major flaws in the plot. Choppy writing, had its moments, but was a disappointment.
3. Decent read, good writing. Story maybe a little predictable and not new.
4. Good book. Had a few little flaws, but nothing major.
5. Loved it! Will re-read it.

What do you think about sexual ratings?  Some reviewers use them.
I really appreciate the sexual ratings in reviews, particularly since I write very erotic books. It’s important, because sometimes a reader really doesn’t know what to expect if they don’t know the author. I received a few very stinging 1-star-reviews because readers were appalled by the explicitness of my sex scenes. I think it’s only right for a review to mention the level of sexual content of a book.

What do reviewers do that irks you the most?
Dinging me for things I mentioned ahead of time. What do I mean by that? If I say that this is a short story of 60 pages, don’t give me a one-star review with your only complaint being it was short. And believe me, I’ve gotten reviews like that even though I clearly mark my short stories as such.

What do you think about awards given to books by a review blogger?
It’s a nice touch. Whether it ultimately means anything in the long run, I’m not sure. But considering how many books many reviewers read, it’s always nice to find out you made it into their top.

As readers/reviewers we love book giveaways. How do you feel about them?
I love doing giveaways. It really doesn’t cost much. In the case of e-books it really doesn’t cost the author anything  at all. It’s not a lost sale, it’s a reader gained. And hopefully one who will recommend my books to her friends.

What would be your best piece of advice for a book blogger/reviewer?
Be honest about your review. If you love every single book you review, nobody will believe you’re telling the truth.  Most books have flaws, some tiny, some huge. The question is, can the reader live with them?

What’s the turnaround time expected when you give a reviewer a book to review?
Ideally around 2 - 3 weeks.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?
I’ve been quite lucky with review blogs, and I owe much to a couple of blog who’ve really gone out of their way to review my books and help me get word out there. Thanks!

Cover- I love it, but who can resist Jimmy?

This is one the hottest vampire erotic books I have ever read and loved every minute of it. I keep reading Tina’s books and as I read each one, I keep saying “she will never top the heat in that book.” Then I pick up another one and she proves me wrong, not that I mind, nope not one bit. Now fair warning you get a good storyline for a novella, but be prepared for plenty of wicked hot sex. There is anal play not only with the heroine, but also with the hero (no M/M.) You also get one scene that has voyeurism (its really hot). This relationship has some very light D/S at times and bondage and don’t let me get started on the bondage scene, it was so good, I had to read it twice.

For some reason I never thought about a vampire almost dying by drowning, other ways definitely I have, but this idea was different. I loved that the heroin saved the hero it was very exciting to read. The author ties everything and everyone together making this a fantastic read. The book description is enough to be said, I don’t want to spoil any of the exacting things to come.

Isabella is a strong heroine and I loved the way she would go out of her comfort zone and trust Raphael. Raphael is a excellent hero for Isabella. He is a vampire in need of companionship and he finds it with Isabella. Both together they have great compassion and passion with each other.

I recommend this book anyone that loves a quick novella with exciting hot sex and a very good storyline.

Now this is the book that inspired me to ask JennJ to make me a scorcher award, that how hot I found this book.....

Review Gabriel's Mate by Tina Folsom

Title: Gabriel's Mate (Scanguards Vampires #3)
Author: Tina Folsom
Source: Requested review
Genre: Paranormal romance- Vampire
Format: eBook, Kindle Novel
Authors website

After Maya is turned into a vampire against her will, vampire and Scanguards bodyguard Gabriel is charged with protecting her and finding her attacker.

Gabriel has never guarded a body as perfect as Maya’s. But while the sexual tension between them rises and the rogue vampire closes in on them, Gabriel can’t allow himself to give into the desire he feels for Maya. He fears to fully show himself to her despite the intimacies they share - afraid she will react like all other women when she discovers the horror he hides.

Will she run from him when she discovers his secret, calling him a monster, a freak, a creature not worthy of her love?

Caution: graphic and explicit sex scenes - not for the faint of heart.

My Review

Gabriel’s Mate is the third book in Tina Folsom Scanguards steamy vampire series, its exciting and different in many ways. I love how Tina can take vampires and add some mythology in the mix, is totally different. I loved the mystery, steaming hot sex and the blood and gore, you can't have a good vampire book without that. This is a true paranormal erotic romance at its finest. This book is my favorite so far, in this series.

One day I will have to ask Tina how she comes up with these men and their manhood problems LOL. This poor guy has a hung dinger of a problem, but once he finds out the true source of the problem that has plagued him for years, it turns into something extra ordinary. Tina leaves you in suspense about his manhood problems, I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to find out what it was. You just have to read it for yourself. Gabriel is very different and as you read in the first of the book you’ll find his problem caused him to be what we call a tormented hero. He lives years without companionship and that is what he wont’s most in life, even after becoming a vampire. I will say that sometimes when we read the tormented hero they seem to drag on forever with the oh woos is me and thinking stuff they shouldn’t in their heads, to cause even more friction between him and the heroine. I have to hand it to Tina she never drags this out like most authors, you’ll read some of his whining, but it wont last long. Although Gabriel is a little skittish at times.

One night while Maya is going home she is attacked. A couple of Scanguards guards finds her and brings her in. She wakes and finds herself thorn into a different world and has to learn things new, but the thing is Maya is different herself and even in this world she finds again she is different. Maya will lose a lot from her life, but gain so much more in turn.

I loved reading Maya and Gabriel. They are both strong in ways and let me tell you Maya takes nothing off of anyone even a vampire.

You also get to read about the other Scanguards vampires. One is Yvette, I really enjoyed getting to know her more and hope she gets a book soon.

Series order
1.Samson's Lovely Mortal
2.Amaury's Hellion
3. Gabriel's Mate

My Review
Rating-
Sexual-

A sweet and sexy story. This is a short novella it took me a little over an hour to read. So if your looking for a sexy ride that wont take up your whole weekend this is an excellent choice. I very much enjoyed it.

Ellen is a pure spitfire. She is still not married and now all of a sudden is having men come and seek her hand in marriage. She knows something is up and has to find out. Ellen doesn’t want some cowboy she wants romance and poetry, so she is not going to take this lightly and has plans to escape, one way or another.

James has seen Ellen at a dance before and liked her. Now he hears her father is offering a huge amount of money (for this time period) for someone to take her off his hands. James wants her, but he has to handle her different because she has a reputation and knows she will decline every offer, so he goes about this a different way. How you say, you’ll have to read.

This book was very entertaining and fun to read. The hero and heroine fit together so well, all they have to do is have sometime to find out how well. I found this very emotional at times. My biggest emotion was one time Ellen escapes and falls and gets a lot of cactus spines stuck in her back side. James has to help out and takes his time to get them out it was really sweet how he took care of her. The sexual tension along with the sex is very hot.

Interview and giveaway with Author Tina Folsom

I would like to introduce you to Author Tina Folsom. When I read her Samson's Lovely Mortal, I loved it so much, I just has to share her with you guys. Tina is fun and loved to talk to readers so don't be shy.
Please welcome Author Tina Folsom

Laurie-Would you tell us a little about yourself?

Tina-I’m a romance author. I live in San Francisco, California, but I’m originally from Germany. I’ve lived in English speaking countries for over 20 years, practically my entire adult life. Writing is my big passion in life, and finally being able to do it for a living is a dream come true.

Laurie-What different kinds of genres do you write?

Tina-I only write romance, however, within the romance genre I’ve dabbled in different subgenres: western, contemporary, paranormal, historical.

Laurie-Out of all the different genres you write do you have a favorite?

Tina-Without a doubt, paranormal romance is my favorite and the one I will concentrate on.

Laurie-I loved the first two books in your Scanguards vampire series. Would you tell those who have never heard of them a little about the series?

Tina-Scanguards Vampires is about a group of vampires who run a security company called Scanguards. Samson is the owner of the company, and his book is the first in the series. Samson suffers from erectile dysfunction after a traumatic event and not even his shrink can help him. When the human auditor Delilah tumbles into his arms after a seemingly random attack, his hydraulics are working just fine. The story is very sexy and fast paced.
Amaury’s Hellion is the second book in the series. Amaury is Samson’s best friend and a director at Scanguards. He is cursed to feel other people’s emotions like a permanent headache and needs sex daily to keep the pain at bay. When he meets the feisty human woman Nina, a cure for his ailment seems within reach: in her presence all pain vanishes. Unfortunately, Nina is out to kill him because she believes he's involved in her brother's death. And she would succeed if only Amaury's bad boy charm didn't play havoc with her hormones and catapulted her into his arms and his bed every time she was near him.

In Book 1, Samson’s Lovely Mortal the vampire Amaury can read emotions and it is a huge problem for him. How did you come up with this problem?
I like to give my vampires problems that go against the grain of their own character. Amaury is so full of shit sometimes and such a hard ass that I figured, what the heck, I’m going to have him deal with the things he fears most: emotions. I had the epiphany about his problem when I wrote the scene with Ilona in Samson’s Lovely Mortal.

Laurie-Do you have an idea how many books you’re going to write for the Scanguards series?

Tina-I’m planning at least 6 books: Gabriel, Yvette, Zane, Thomas will be the next four, and possibly one or two after that depending on the popularity of the series.

Laurie-In book two Zane has a problem, he likes giving pain. Are you going to focus on this in his book?

Tina-Zane’s book is going to be quite dark – it will most likely be Book #5 in the Series. I am working on a few different scenarios for him, but violence is definitely part of his makeup. He has a very troubled past, and I don’t think he’ll be an easy character to write. I anticipate that some people will not like him at first, because of the things he’s done in his past.

Laurie-Do you have a favorite place to write?

Tina-I like to sit curled up on my couch with my little netbook computer and a cup of hot ginger tea. I do have a little office in my condo, but there’s no natural light, so I only use it when I have to do non-creative work. For all my creative work, I like to sit where I can watch the world go by. I’m on the forth floor of our building and have a nice view of the neighborhood.

Laurie-If you could give any advice for an up coming independent author what would that be?

Tina-First, join a critique group or local chapter of writers for your genre. You’ll learn a lot from others. Then just write. It takes a lot of practice to find your voice and make a story work. Some people can do it on the first book, some on the 10th. I work with critique partners on each book, and so do other published writers. We rely on those critique partners to tell us when something isn’t working, when our characters are unlovable, or our plot sucks. Brainstorm with your partners regularly. I can’t tell you enough how many times I’ve come up with a great scene just because of a remark one of my critique partners has made. Writing is only a solitary business if you make it so.
My second advice is: read lots of books in your genre, good and bad. You can learn from both. Don’t copy others, but take your inspiration from them. If somebody has a good idea, there’s nothing wrong with taking that thread and spinning it into a different direction. Remember, somebody once said (and I wish I remembered which famous person it was), there are only 20 unique stories out there – everything else is a variation of those 20 stories.

Laurie-Do you have anything you’d like to tell us about your books?

Tina-Yes, just a warning: all my books are sexually explicit. So if you are a little on the prudish side, they are not for you. If you read the first line of Samson’s Lovely Mortal, you’ll understand what I mean.

(Laurie-the first line is OMG!!;)

Laurie-Can you share what you have coming out next?

Tina-I’m currently working on Book 3 in the Scanguards Vampires Series. It will be Gabriel’s story – but I haven’t settled on a title yet. I anticipate the release date to be around December 1, 2010. Gabriel is quite a troubled vampire with a very unique sexual problem. You can watch my progress on my blog where I’ll be posting my word count daily.
I’m also working on a four book series about Greek Gods. Currently the proposal is with a traditional publishing house and I’m waiting to find out if it fits into their lineup.

Fun questions
Laurie-What is your favorite color?

Tina-Purple/lilac/violet

Laurie-Your favorite coke?

Tina-I don’t drink soft drinks – mainly because it’s hard enough to keep the pounds off when you’re sitting at a computer most of the day. I’m only 5’3”, so every extra pound really shows.

Laurie-Do you collect anything?

Tina-My husband and I live in a one bedroom condo, so I’ve never gotten into the habit of collecting anything – we just don’t have the space to keep anything. I don’t like clutter.
