A man controlled by his desires...

Infamous for his wild, sensual needs, Lazarus Huntington, Lord Caire, is searching for a savage killer in St. Giles, London's most notorious slum. Widowed Temperance Dews knows St. Giles like the back of her hand— she's spent a lifetime caring for its inhabitants at the foundling home her family established. Now that home is at risk.

A woman haunted by her past...

Caire makes a simple offer—in return for Temperance's help navigating the perilous alleys of St. Giles, he will introduce her to London's high society so that she can find a benefactor for the home. But Temperance may not be the innocent she seems, and what begins as cold calculation soon falls prey to a passion that neither can control—one that may well destroy them both.

A bargain neither could refuse.
Wicked Intentions got off to a bit of a rocky start. Elizabeth Hoyt has a unique (to me, at least) writing voice and it really threw me off at first. It has an old-fashioned feel that actually really fit the story quite well once I got used to the flow.

Temperance was a little confusing at first. I was surprised that a woman of her social class - not nobility, but far from slums - would be willing to take Lord Caire up on his offer. While I greatly admire the reasons she does, it was so out of place for compared to the rest of her personality. I was also quite confused as to her huge (and I mean huge) repulsion when it came to matters of sex. Thankfully, this was explained very nicely late in the book, but I wish I had known sooner so I had liked her better all along the way.

Lord Caire was quite a dynamic character, and he was what really kept the story going for me. He has some very interesting characteristics that made him stand out and I really wanted to see what he would do next and why. His relationship with Temperance was a great one. His search to find something to "feel" really seemed to shine through and I loved it.

Temperance's family has a lot going on in the background - I imagine we'll be seeing more of them in future parts of the series. I enjoyed how their part of the story really filled out Temperance's character for me. I hope we do get to see them all again.

A MAN CONDEMNED . . .

Falsely accused of murder and mute from a near-fatal beating, Apollo Greaves, Viscount Kilbourne has escaped from Bedlam. With the Crown's soldiers at his heels, he finds refuge in the ruins of a pleasure garden, toiling as a simple gardener. But when a vivacious young woman moves in, he's quickly driven to distraction . . .

A DESPERATE WOMAN . . .

London's premier actress, Lily Stump, is down on her luck when she's forced to move into a scorched theatre with her maid and small son. But she and her tiny family aren't the only inhabitants—a silent, hulking beast of a man also calls the charred ruins home. Yet when she catches him reading her plays, Lily realizes there's more to this man than meets the eye.

OUT OF ASH, DESIRE FLARES

Though scorching passion draws them together, Apollo knows that Lily is keeping secrets. When his past catches up with him, he's forced to make a choice: his love for Lily . . . or the explosive truth that will set him free.

"Jealousy," he grated, pulling her close, pulling her into his arms, though she struggled to get away. "I would that it were something as easy, as simple, as mere jealousy," He bent and murmured against her mouth, his lips caressing her with each word. "This is far more awful than jealousy."

Ms. Hoyt has struck pay-dirt with this addition to her Maiden Lane series.

I'm not usually fond of young children and yappy dogs in my romance novels. However, it's young Indio who first discovers the monster living in the garden and reports back to his mother, Lily. I will admit, I was chuckling at his antics at the dinner table.

Lily makes the assumption that Caliban (a name given to him by Indio) is a simpleton, because he is mute, hired to work in the garden and befriends him. WHOA! Was she ever wrong.

Apollo Greaves - a huge, beastly, bulging man! Laboring as a common gardener - in truth: Viscount Kilbourne, part owner of the now destroyed pleasure garden, seeking to clear his name of a crime he didn't commit.

Not only is DARLING BEAST a very satisfying book from beginning to end, but we get a closer look at a very untidy, Asa "Harte" Makepeace. Along with another character, the Duke of Montgomery, who likes to collect people and information. I'm hoping we'll see his story before too long and the willful, strong woman who brings him to his knees!

One last note. Ms. Hoyt began each chapter with a teaser from The Minotaur which I enjoyed very much; my reading addiction began with Greek Mythology. If you would like to read further, I suggest starting with this:  THE KING MUST DIE. I read it many, many moons ago and just recently put it on my shelf. I need to revisit it once again.

Quick Review Scandalous Desires by Elizabeth Hoyt

Title: Scandalous Desires (Maiden Lane #3)
Author: Elizabeth Hoyt
Source: I purchased
Genre: Historical romance
Format: Mass paperback
Release date: Oct 18, 2011

Can a pirate learn that the only true treasure lies in a woman's heart?

Widowed Silence Hollingbrook is impoverished, lovely, and kind—and nine months ago she made a horrible mistake. She went to a river pirate for help in saving her husband and in the process made a bargain that cost her her marriage. That night wounded her so terribly that she hides in the foundling home she helps run with her brother. Except now that same river pirate is back...and he's asking for her help.

"Charming" Mickey O'Connor is the most ruthless river pirate in London. Devastatingly handsome and fearsomely intelligent, he clawed his way up through London's criminal underworld. Mickey has no use for tender emotions like compassion and love, and he sees people as pawns to be manipulated. And yet he's never been able to forget the naive captain's wife who came to him for help and spent one memorable night in his bed...talking.

When his bastard baby girl was dumped in his lap—her mother having died—Mickey couldn't resist the Machiavellian urge to leave the baby on Silence's doorstep. The baby would be hidden from his enemies and he'd also bind Silence to him by her love for his daughter.

You have got to see this video. I laughed my butt off!!

Freaking awesome and the best book yet. I couldn’t believe the depth that Hoyt dug into in writing Mickey’s past, it was sad but yet you couldn’t help but admire how he came through it. You get an in-depth story, action, emotions and secrets. The thing you’ll have to wait on is the sex action because Silence is a strong in not obeying Mickey ever again but when it happens you get hit with a Bam! LOL.

Please don’t miss this book because you have to find out who the Ghost of St. Giles is. Oh yeah, the cat will be out of the bag and it will make you want the next book right then.. It’s killer… *crying* I WANT “THEIF OF SHADOWS” NOW!! LOL….

If you haven’t tried this series I have to ask, “Why in the heck not?” As a paranormal romance reader I am not a huge fan historical romance but I can’t get enough of this series. So put this one on your to buy list and then you can see how “charming” a pirate can be.

My suggestion read this series in order.

Review Notorious Pleasures by Elizabeth Hoyt

Title:Notorious Pleasures (Maiden Lane #2)

Format: mass paperback
Authors website

Their lives were perfect . . .
Lady Hero Batten, the beautiful sister of the Duke of Wakefield, has everything a woman could want, including the perfect fiancé. True, the Marquis of Mandeville is a trifle dull and has no sense of humor, but that doesn't bother Hero. Until she meets his notorious brother . . .

Until they met each other.
Griffin Remmington, Lord Reading, is far from perfect - and he likes it that way. How he spends his days is a mystery, but all of London knows he engages in the worst sorts of drunken revelry at night. Hero takes an instant dislike to him, and Griffin thinks that Hero, with her charities and faultless manners, is much too impeccable for society, let alone his brother. Yet their near-constant battle of wits soon sparks desire - desire that causes their carefully constructed worlds to come tumbling down. As Hero's wedding nears, and Griffin's enemies lay plans to end their dreams forever, can two imperfect people find perfect true love?

Elizabeth Hoyt wowed me with her hot romantic writing of Notorious Pleasures. This book is the same as the first Maiden Lane book, it’s filled with romance, passion, adventure, with the addition of a little danger. You’ll find yourself trying to turn the pages faster to find out what’s going to happen next. I myself never like a hero like the ladies man ,Griffin, but the way this author wrote Griffin’s passion for Hero was just outstanding. I loved the wild ways the author found for Griffin and Hero to take their Notorious Pleasures, each scene was sizzling hot, oh yea, this author never holds back in the romance department.

This is book 2 in the series, although it can be read as a stand alone, I suggest to read in order. There is a lot going on.

My review
Rating-

Sexual-

I was very impressed with Wicked Intentions; I greatly enjoined reading this story and the characters. I loved the mystery, adventure, danger, emotions and the hot sex. I’m always a sucker for a book with a hero that is on the darker side and has a tortured soul, but what I liked most was the author didn’t drag anything out between the hero and heroine and she kept them together pretty much thought-out the book.

You’ll find some wicked things in this book. You have a hero Lord Caire that likes his sex on the bondage side. Why you ask? Well you have to read to find out how tortured Lord Caire really is, then again Temperance isn‘t to innocent herself. So expect some mention and use of bondage with blind folds and some wicked sex in a carriage.

I recommend this to any historical reader that likes torched souls, betrayals, emotions and murder. I myself can’t wait to read more books in this series, especially the book with Temperance sister Silence.
