She's beyond his reach...
Gideon Harrow has spent his life in London's dark underworld-and he wants out. A thief and a con, he plans one last heist to finally win his freedom. But when everything goes wrong, he finds himself at the tender mercies of one of Society's most untouchable women-Lady Susanna Derring.

...and out of her depth.
Susanna has spent her life in London's glittering ton, under the thumb of a domineering mother-and she wants out. When a wickedly charming rogue lands at her feet, she jumps at the chance to experience life before it's too late. But as she descends into London's underworld, she finds that nothing- not even Gideon-is as it seems. As excitement turns to danger, Susanna must decide what price she's willing to pay...for the love of a reformed thief.
I am totally loving the Covent Garden Cubs series. The characters are a ton of fun and there's just enough of a suspense to really keep things moving along. We met Susanna in the previous book in the series when her brother made a scandalous match with kidnapped noble. Now it's Susanna's turn to give her mother the vapors as she set off to have an adventure with Gideon. Susanna was very much what I had pictured a pampered, proper, and totally repressed young lady would be like. Straining against the reins of society and her mother's idea of how she should behave, she is bound and determined to experience just one grand adventure before settling down with some dull lord.

Gideon didn't set out to find an adventure, but when he stumbles into a dark room and finds himself at Susanna's mercy, he finds he has little choice but to do as she wishes. He finds that it's a strange talent she seems to have. She can talk her way into and out of just about anything. Gideon does he best to show that he isn't a gentleman, but deep down he can't help but let his better side show through and really take care of Susanna as they find themselves falling into one predicament after another.

Their adventures take them through the shady side of London and Susanna sees a side of life she never realized even existed. She get much more than she expected out of her little adventure, and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Guest Post with Shana Galen - Noblemen in Films

Shana Galen is an amazing historical romance writer.  I'm enjoying her latest series, Covent Garden Cubs, very much.  Today she stopped by to share with us some of her favorite noble heroes from the world of film.  I have to say I approve of all her choices.

The Noble Man by Shana Galen
In my new release, Earls Just Want to Have Fun, Dane is a nobleman in every sense of the word.  He is a little stuffy, definitely opinionated, but super sexy. When Dane’s brother Brook drags Marlowe, a pickpocket, into Dane’s life, his world view is challenged and he can either sink or swim.

“I thought the idea was to keep the rabble and the criminals out of Derring House. It’s bad enough one can’t walk the streets without having one’s pockets emptied, or that highwaymen all but own the roads. A man’s house should at least be safe.”

Dane does not really understand the world that Marlowe has been forced to survive in or the people in it. It’s when Dane starts to see Marlowe as a person that his perception changes. The necessities that he once took for granted, such as food, clothing, and warmth are luxuries to Marlowe. Dane learns to appreciate the things he has, and to become aware of something he does not have–love.

Dane has a few things in common with my Top 5 Noblemen in film, as they all put aside convention to be with the one they love.

My Top 5 Noblemen from Films!
5. Beast from Beauty and the Beast – A tale as old as time. A young woman trades places with her father to be a hostage of an angry beast. I love this hero for the changes he makes in his life as he falls in love with Belle and realizes that he can overcome his inner beast.

4. Prince Charming from Cinderella – Once upon the time, a sweet and kind young lady is treated like a servant in her own home by an evil stepmother and two horrid stepsisters. Prince Charming does not say much in the Disney version, but he whisks Cinderella away from her life, with a little help from a fairy godmother. I love this hero for his persistence in finding Cinderella after she runs away, and for not letting her real circumstances change his mind about her.

3. Prince Edvard from The Prince and Me – Paige Morgan a pre-med student in Wisconsin meets Eddie a Danish exchange student and brings him home for Thanksgiving. Love ensues, but is complicated by the revelation that “Eddie” is Edvard a Prince, playing hooky from his duties.  I love Edvard because he's so unpretentious. It doesn't matter to him that he's a prince and Paige is just a commoner. He puts all that aside because he falls in love with her.

2. Mr. Knightley from Emma – Mr. Knightly is the respectable older friend to the matchmaking Emma. While Emma is busy making matches for others, Mr. Knightly is there for her as a friend. A misunderstanding occurs and the friendship turns to love. I love Mr. Knightley because he loves Emma despite her flaws. He accepts her for who she is and even loves her because of her foibles.

1. Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice – Mr. Darcy is the quintessential gentleman caller, and Regency fan favorite. He is proud, judgmental and yet is able to see past his prejudices and fall in love with Elizabeth Bennett.  How can you not love Mr. Darcy when he says things like, "You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you." Swoon! And "You are too generous to trifle with me. If your feelings are still what they were last April, tell me so at once. My affections and wishes are unchanged." A man who loves even when rejected and has no hope of reciprocation--that's a truly noble man.
Those are a few of my favorite noblemen in films. Do you have a favorite?

His heart may be the last thing she ever steals...

Marlowe is a pickpocket, a housebreaker-and a better actress than any professional on the stage. She runs with the Covent Garden Cubs, a gang of thieves living in the slums of London's Seven Dials. It's a fierce life, and Marlowe has a hard outer shell. But when she's alone, she allows herself to think of a time before-a dimly remembered life when she was called Elizabeth.

Maxwell, Lord Dane, is intrigued when his brother, a hired investigator, ropes him into his investigation of the fiercely beautiful hellion. He teaches her to navigate the social morass of the ton, but Marlowe will not escape so easily. Instead, Dane is drawn into her dangerous world, where the student becomes the teacher and love is the greatest risk of all.

His heart may be the last thing she ever steals . . .

Marlowe is a pickpocket, a housebreaker—and a better actress than any professional on the stage. She runs with the Covent Garden Cubs, a gang of thieves living in the slums of London’s Seven Dials. It’s a fierce life, and Marlowe has a hard outer shell. But when she’s alone, she allows herself to think of a time before—a dimly remembered life when she was called Elizabeth.

He teaches her to navigate the social morass of the ton while his brother attempts to confirm her true identity. But Marlowe will not escape so easily. Instead, Dane is drawn into her world of danger and violence, where the student becomes the teacher and love is the greatest risk of all.

The first full novel in the Covent Garden Cubs book really gets off to a great start.  We get to learn a little about our bad guy in the prequel, Viscount of Vice (review link below), and he really takes on the roll of a gang leader in this one.  We get to really see what a bad person he is and as a result, we really admire Marlowe for surviving the streets for so long.

Now, Marlowe was a very unique character.  I think I learned more insulting names in one of her conversations than I have in all my historical reading.  I was laughing all the time and I'm so glad that she was as rough around the edges as she was.  It made her story so very real and quite convincing.  When she is suddenly whisked away into the world of Lord Dane - it's quite a culture shock for everyone.

Lord Dane was a pretentious jerk.  He looked down on Marlowe and anyone that was poor - thinking they were a stain on the earth.  It was entertaining to watch her slowly change his world views until he does a complete 180.  In the end he was a wonderful man and one that I easily fell in love with.

There is quite a bit of adventure in this for a historical romance - which was a very nice change of pace.  With the addition of Satin and his street gang, things got really interesting really fast.  I can't wait to see what is next in this series.

This sparkling novella introduces award-winning author Shana Galen's brand new series, Covent Garden Cubs. Galen mixes London's glittering ballrooms with the gritty underworld in her exciting new Regency romance series.

Whispers and secrets are no match for love...

Henry Flynn, the new Lord Chesham, still blames himself for the disappearance of his younger brother when they were children. That incident destroyed his family, and now he's on a path of self-destruction that no one can interrupt...

Lady Emma Talbot can't stand watching the man she secretly loves destroy himself little by little. She's determined to show him that no one holds him culpable, before it's too late. But Emma doesn't know what really happened to Flynn on that fateful day long ago, so what chance does she have of saving him from himself?
Viscount of Vice is a great introduction to a new series.  It has set the stage for some fun, adventure, and a lot of romance.  Henry Flynn is a bit of a scoundrel and the opening scene really sets the stage for his personality.  It was perfect!  He didn't seem to have a care in the world for his reputation - let them talk.  We later find the reason for this and it's a very important part of the story.

Lady Emma couldn't be more different if she tried.  But she does have a bit of spark to her.  She's not your typical miss or she would have never caught Flynn's eye to begin with long ago.  However, neither of them intended for her to get caught up in his problems.

This problem is quite exciting and very emotional for Flynn and his family.  It's hard to say much without giving away some of the best parts of the story.  There was tons of excitement for a novella.  The downside is, I really think this would have been better with a little more to it.  I wish I could have seen more about Flynn's past and maybe some insight into how his brother lived.  It would have rounded it all out better for me.
