Indie romance convention

I am excited to share some news with you I will be hosting an indie (what most people call self-publishers) romance convention next year. I have toyed with this idea in my head for over 2 years because I feel the indie world needs something for them and their readers. I had the privilege to share this idea to Gabrielle Bisset, Tina Flosom and Danielle Blanchard this year and they really liked it. So I decided I would give it a try. I am in the process of getting everything together.  As of right now I have the date, hotel, blog and a few authors. You’re more than welcome to join the blog and follow the progress, but the site won’t officially launch until October.

If you’re an indie romance author and would like to be in the list of attendees please click here

If you’re a blogger and would like to be a featured blogger click here

If you’re a indie reader please join the site and keep up with the progress as it grows and if you have a favorite indie romance author let them know about the convention you never do know if they might sing up.

I hope this convention will be something that will excite readers that are fans of these fabulous authors, so it will continue to grow each year.

Guest romance author Sara Curran-Ross

Please welcome Sara Curran-Ross!

Interview With Lord Nathan Valancourt, Knight Of Swords

It is a cold morning in January when I visit the human hybrid vampire, The Knight Of Swords at his ancestral home, Keeley Park in the Hertfordshire countryside.  Snow lies thickly around the large picturesque home built in the sixteenth century and across the vast beautiful Parkland containing a herd of wild deer.  Somewhere in the distance, the eerie call of peacocks can be heard coming from the grounds as we sit by a large roaring fire in the drawing room.  It crackles and hisses warmth as we talk about light topics.  I am quietly pacing myself before I ask the important questions about his past and the sudden increase in the female hybrid slave trade.

The Knight Of Swords or to refer to his human title, Lord Nathan Valancourt is not a man or more importantly, a vampire to be crossed.  He sits before me in a red leather armchair dressed immaculately in a black Armani business suit with a silk silver grey tie.  At 6”3 inches he owns a formidable sense of presence.  Nathan’s striking dark good looks and sleek black hair worn long at his neck frame his piercing blue eyes to perfection.  They easily captivate your attention holding you his willing prisoner.  And boy does he know the effect he is having on you.  Nathan Valancourt is very aware of his powerful affect on women and how he may exploit it to his advantage.  It is the type of arrogance that makes you want to slap him but adore him for it all at the same time.  It is no surprise that back in the nineteenth century before he made the change from human to hybrid Taleian vampire he was in his own words, a ‘womaniser’.

Blog tour CALL OF THE SEA by Rebecca Hart

Please welcome romance author Rebecca Hart!

Why I Write Romance

Up until my sophomore year of high school, I didn’t consider myself much of a reader. I was much more interested in sports and outdoor activities than “boring” reading. That all changed on a trip to the Outer Banks with my best friend, Jackie. She was a big reader and suggested I borrow a few books from her huge collection to keep me occupied on what would be a thirteen-hour drive to the coast.

The first book I dove into ended up being a pirate adventure, though I wish I could remember the actual title and author. I can still see the cover -- a woman in a Victorian era dress draped in the arms of a handsome pirate rogue with a muscled body visible through the opening of his shirt, which somehow ended up unbuttoned to the waist. One steamy romantic adventure later, I was hooked. I spent the next few years devouring romances and by my freshman year of college, I was finishing them at a pace of 2-3 a week. If I wasn’t buying them, I was borrowing them from Jackie. By the time I went to college, I had a bookshelf full of romance -- and wished I had been born someplace in the 17th century about a million times.

When I started to write seriously, it was just a natural progression for me to write romance. Even stories I had no plans to make into romances when I started them, seemed to progress in the direction of romance. Some days I think I write it because it is just natural, others I think I write it because I still harbor a desire to live in the 17th century. Others still, I decide I must be trying to live out some fantasy relationship by writing epic love stories.

I don’t think about it so much anymore, and try not to analyze the stories I write. I’m a Virgo, and if I allow myself, I could analyze myself into old age. Besides, my muse is far too fickle to allow for that much probing into his motivations.

These days I just take out my laptop, and let my fingers have at it. Usually what comes out contains elements of fantasy and, generally, is peppered with at least a dash of romance. It is far too good an ingredient to leave out. And, so far, the recipe seems to be working for me.

CALL OF THE SEA Synopsis:

Elysandra Winters has always yearned for a life of adventure on the rolling seas and is willing to do whatever it takes to fulfill her dream. When her Privateer father continually refuses to allow his only daughter to sail, Ellie defies him, disguises herself as a boy, and goes in search of a captain who will give her a chance to prove her worth.

Thanks to the cursed Selkie blood coursing through his veins, Daniel O'Rourke needs the sea to survive. After giving up on his humanity and spending three years in seal form, he decides to give his human side another chance. Daniel goes in search of a job and a sense of normalcy, earning himself a position aboard Captain Winter’s ship, The Siren's Call. However, his new captain’s first assignment has nothing at all to do with sailing, and everything to do with his headstrong young daughter.

Years later, when the leader of a band of bloodthirsty pirates murders Captain Winters, Daniel and Elysandra’s lives come crashing back together with the force of a hurricane. Both experts in deception, they must find a way to trust each other in order to quell the raging storm between them or have any hope of hunting down the captain’s killer.

Review Guardian's Grace by Jacqueline Rhoades

Title: Guardian's Grace (Guardian's of the Race #1)
Source: Request
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Length: Novel (279 pgs on Kindle)

Grace Masters always dreamed of a family she could call her own and always knew that for her, those dreams would never come true. Yet here she is, in an old Victorian home, living and loving under the cover of night. Who knew the source of her lifelong torment was really her gift as a Daughter of Man or that this gift could be controlled and used for something good? Who knew there was another race called the Paenitentia who live side by side with humans? Who knew that demons are real?
Grace certainly didn’t until one fateful night when her world falls apart and comes together again in a place where she finally belongs. Sometimes a person just knows when something is right and destined to be. Sometimes convincing someone else of that fact is a little more difficult.

Canaan ad Simeon is that someone else.
Canaan is Liege Lord to a House of Guardians whose job is to protect the Race from a demon threat many no longer believe in. Already breaking away from the outdated traditions that are depleting their numbers and threatened by a hierarchy resistant to change, the last thing Canaan needs is to fall for this innocently sexy Daughter of Man. But fall he does, with a mixture of comedy, drama and red hot sex that will touch your heart.

Guest paranormal romance author Tina Folsom

Would you tell everyone a little about yourself?

I’m one of the most successful self-published authors who’s never been traditionally published. A lot of my success is due to the fact that I’m extremely prolific and work very hard at perfecting my craft. But that’s not everything. Lots of people can write a good book: selling it is the hard part. I spend lots of hours every day, promoting my work, making sure it is available on as many platforms as possible. That’s also brought me to getting my books translated into other languages to reach foreign language readers. So far, several of my books have been translated into German, French, and Spanish. And soon, my first audio book will be available too. I never stand still. When there’s a new idea, I go for it, try it out, see if it fits, and if it does, I repeat it. Writing is not just a passion for me, it’s also a business, and I treat it with respect. It’s giving me lots of opportunities and enabled me to do what I love. I have the best job in the world.

What sub-genre do you write?

Paranormal Romance. Occasionally I dabble in historical paranormal romance too.

Who/what is your writing muse? And in what environment or conditions do you write?

I wouldn’t say that I have a muse, or if I do, I don’t really know who or what it is. Words and stories just come to me. I wake up with new ideas and scenes in my head that I have to somehow weave into stories and turn into books. While a lot of other authors write to music, I find it very distracting. I need absolute quiet around me to really be able to be creative and write. Occasionally, I can achieve that in a quiet coffee shop, but most of the time I write at home in my office with the door closed. My most creative time is in the morning, so I try to get my writing quota done before lunch and then do all publishing related work later. I do set myself a goal for each day of how many words I want to write or which scenes or chapters to finish. It helps me keep on track with my self-imposed deadlines.

What are you working on at this time?

I’m working on book 6 in my bestselling Scanguards Vampires series. It follows the story of Quinn, the vampire who now runs Scanguards Headquarters in New York. Because his fate is linked to somebody in his past, there will be some historical elements in the book, and that’s also why it’s taking me a little longer. I need to do historical research to get things right. I hope to have the book ready for a late summer release.

Blurb Edge of Passion (Cloak Warriors #1)
If a handsome stranger tells you that the drug you developed to cure Alzheimer’s has the side effect of opening a human’s mind to be controlled by demons, would you believe him and hand over the drug and its blueprint to be destroyed? Neither would Dr. Leila Cruishank, but that’s the issue she’s suddenly faced with when encountering Aiden, a man who calls himself an immortal Cloak Warrior.
At first, she doesn’t believe his outlandish claims, but when confronted with his powers of walking through solid objects and making himself invisible, she has to make a choice between her parents, who suffer from Alzheimer’s, and the greater good of humankind. In the blink of an eye, her ordered life takes a turn toward adventure, danger, and most of all, passion.

Please provide sex-excerpt if you can or just and excerpt and cover for the book.
Excerpt of Edge of Passion (Cloak Warrior #1)
With slow movements, he reached for her. “Just so you’re cloaked,” he whispered.
“Yes.” Her husky voice was barely audible.
Snaking an arm around her waist, he drew her into the curve of his body. When her sweet backside connected with his groin, he clenched his jaw shut to prevent himself from moaning out loud.
Fuck! He’d never survive this night.
In three heartbeats, his body pumped more blood into his cock, making him as hard as he’d ever been.
Leila’s breath hitched. She’d noticed it and tried to move away from him.
“No,” he breathed into her ear, tempted to suck her soft earlobe into his mouth. “I won’t do anything you don’t want me to do.”
Yeah, where had he heard that before? As if he would be able to stop once he started.
Pressing his palm onto her stomach, he pulled her back against him. His hard-on ground against her butt cheeks, begging to be let out of its confines.
“Aiden ...”
Did her voice sound just a little bit aroused, or was this simply wishful thinking on his part?
“We shouldn’t ... it’s not r—”
“Right?” he finished her sentence and pressed a soft kiss on the spot below her ear. “It feels right to me.” Even though he knew it was wrong. Somewhere in the Cloak Warrior rule book it was written, but for some reason, the rules didn’t mean anything to him at that moment.
Perhaps this was how Manus seduced his charges: with sweet words and tender caresses. Aiden could do the same. In fact, it didn’t feel like a lie to do this. Whispering sweet nothings into her ear involved no deception, because the things he wanted to tell her felt real.
She sighed and relaxed against him.
“Leila, do you remember what you did earlier tonight when you were in your own bed?”
A gasp escaped her, and he felt her body shift as if she wanted to get away from him again.
“It was beautiful watching you.”
He planted kisses along the graceful column of her neck. Then he allowed his hand to move. His fingers found the waistband of her PJs and slipped underneath.
“I wanted to join in earlier. You excite me.” In snail’s pace, his hand traveled lower. “Let me pleasure you now. Say yes,” he urged as his fingers dove lower and delved into the nest of curls guarding her sex.
“Aiden, we can’t ... I don’t know you ... it’s ...” she stammered at the same time as her hips tilted toward his hand.
“Say yes, and I’ll release the tension in your body.”
He moved another inch lower, his fingertips now reaching the moist flesh at the juncture of her thighs.
“Your body needs this.” And he needed it too, needed to feel her shudder in his arms.
He nipped at her skin where her neck met her shoulder and felt her shiver. “Say yes.”
With a sigh, her answer came.

Please welcome authors April Fifer and Danielle Hylton-Outland

Unattainable:

Unattainable… what’s so great about it? Everything! We all love the unattainable relationship. Paranormal Romance is built on this very subject. (In our opinion.) As Paranormal Romance lovers, we can’t help but cling to the stories of love and loss or can never be. We so badly want to beat the odds. Who says a vampire and a werewolf can’t fall in love and make it work?  So what that the odds are stacked against them and that they are from different worlds. Love will find a way. Isn’t that what we all believe? In Flesh and Feathers we thrived off this concept, and what better way to create it then to have a love triangle between to extremely hot, paranormal heroes? Azaleigh loves Kale… Kale loves Azaleigh… Gage loves Azaleigh… Azaleigh loves Gage. It’s a mangled mess where emotions and feelings flood the characters with no possible good outcome. Or is it? As we shake our magic eight-ball, we pray that they answer is “yes.” (The magic eight-ball knows all. LOL.) There is nothing sexier than two characters who are completely consumed by each other, trying to beat these odds. It’s much like our normal lives. We struggle with strife everyday… maybe we don’t have problems such as blood thirst verses uncontrollable body manipulation, leaving us a little more furry than before. But as humans, we struggle with the unattainable. We covet; we need; we want. It is all very simple. And what we want is to be coveted, needed, and wanted by something extraordinary because we see ourselves so… very… ordinary. (At least we do.) During our journey in writing Flesh and Feathers, we became Azaleigh. We felt her needs and wants, and we found ourselves feeling the same way. We fell in love with Kale and Gage, just as she did. And at the end of the book, our hearts sank. Our relationship with the characters were unattainable. We couldn’t talk to them, or touch them, or explain our feelings to them. This is what keeps us going. The need to achieve what you can’t have is overwhelming. But yet we want it that way. It’s no fun without a fight.
