Even in a world of freaks, being a Firestarter is considered a dangerous Gift.

Lucy was born with the ability to create and control fire. She longs to leave the human world for one filled with Earthshakers, Transporters, and Chameleons, to name a few. When she rejoins the circus, it’s everything she hoped it could be—new friends, a potential love interest or two, and a place where she can be herself.

When troupe members begin turning up dead, however, Lucy is suspected of foul play. She must not only prove her innocence but also realize the full extent of her power. To find the real murderer, she must uncover the truth behind her father’s fiery legacy while figuring out whom to trust within her new circle. Little does she know the history of the Donovan Circus and its enemies might actually destroy the entire gifted world.

Lucy, a firestarter, turns to her father's old friends when her mother passes. She rejoins the Donovan Circus, and tries to integrate peacefully with everyone. She instantly makes friends with her roommate Delia, and her close circle of friends. Since she is the newbie she get to start earning her keep by doing grunt work, which is no biggie for her, until one of the other circus members is found dead in the parking lot. All fingers point to Lucy, and she has no idea why or who would set her up like this.
At first I thought things were going a little slow, the characters were getting to know each other, Lucy was finding herself in the middle of a love triangle, then BOOM, there's a murder. I just couldn't stop reading after that, I just kept turning the pages, then there is deceit! *Gasps* NO!! It can't be!!! Why would he do that?! I really liked him! I was so mad! Then all hell breaks loose or as I like to say the sh*t hits the fan. Loyalties are tested and fighting ensues, but in the end, is it over?

OMG!! I loved it! Totally awesome and I cannot wait to read more about the Donovan Circus and who Lucy will choose?

Review: Welcome to the Neighborhood by Mary Abshire

Sparks fly under the full moon in paranormal suburbia.

Vampire Alexandria Cartwright believes she’s found the perfect home in paranormal suburbia. An independent young woman and professional financial adviser, Alexi needs help from no man, human or paranormal. Until burglars break into her house and steal her most valuable possession–one which could lead to her demise.

Werewolf Gregory Holmes is instantly attracted to his new neighbor and wants nothing more than to protect her from any who would seek to harm her. Helping Alexi recover her stolen safe seems to be the perfect opportunity to show her how he feels.

Centuries of experience have shown Alexi all men are greedy pigs who only think with the brain below their belt. But as Greg comes to her aid repeatedly, she wonders if he’s the real deal. Can she overcome her loathing for men? Can Greg break through the wall she’s built to show her the meaning of love?

***WARNING: Kinds/Sorta/Possibly spoilers in this review. Nothing major, but there wasn't a way for me to get around some stuff to write this review.***

I wanted to love this book. I wanted it to be 'the one' that pulled me out of, yet another, book slump. The synopsis sounded great, it has a beautiful cover, and the author seems like a real nice chic. Unfortunately, there were a few things that let me down.

I really liked Greg. The lawyer/werewolf/overall hero was awesome as a love interest. He's almost the cookie cutter nice guy (with a little edge when it comes to sexin) that every girl dreams of.
Alas, I was not feeling the love for the heroine, Alexi. Talk about trust issues. Sheesh! I got so tired of reading about her mistrust of men and how they were all users and abusers.  Apparently her maker was a real mean guy. Killed her family, and made her do bad things. Then there's talk of a more recent relationship that ended up in the dumps. I get it, she's got bad taste in men. I can't tell you how many times she rambles on about how much men suck.
Repetition does not make for good reading.

Then there were just weird things that didn't seem like they were necessary. For the first 30% of the book Alexi is constantly texting/talking to her BFF, Cass. I guess they've known each other for a long time, but no real back story is given. Then at about the 35% mark, POOF, Cass disappears never to be heard from again. Maybe she'll get her own story in the future? I'm not sure.

The book has a slew of other characters that show up for brief periods, get you interested and then, they too, do a magic act and are never heard from again. I've read enough series starters to understand the concept of pulling a reader in so that they want to continue the series, but the dangling threads of the other residents' stories just aggravated me in this one.

It wasn't just residents that disappear either. A whole plot about Alexi being investigated by the police over some drained bodies is quickly, and oddly dismissed.
*chapters of thinking she's sucking humans dry, and then the police go, "Oh, it couldn't have been you. Have a nice after-life"
WHAT? After it was so easily dismissed I felt pages and pages of the book were wasted by it even being in there :/

So let me just say, it's a good book from the ROMANCE stand-point. If the story had stuck to the building of Alexi and Greg's relationship I would have been happy. All of the extra stuff bogged down the story, and left me frustrated.

With the engagement broken and her fiancĂ© gone, she crumples into the arms of Tullamore’s handsome gardener, Niall. He proves how hot, sensual and mind-blowing sex can be. They can’t stay together, not in the manner Shanna needs. But when a determined, dark apparition begins stalking her, Niall realizes it may be the key to their destiny.

Part of the Emerald Isle Fantasies series.

I have a confession. I'm a big scaredy cat. I really dislike ghost movies and stories, or anything with evil Demonic exorcisms or anything like that.  Which is kind of funny since the last two books I've read were ghost mysteries. But they were both excellent reads.

Phantom Mischief  was a great read. It was definitely a page turner for me, I finished it no time time at all. Ireland and it's history and  tales of the castles have always intrigued me, so when I find a story with a sexy paranormal twist to it, I love it.  Shanna is visiting Tullamore Castle with her (stupid) fiance for their one year anniversary. While trying to get cozy in their room, things start to get freaky, and not in the good way. As it turns out, her fiance is a total jerk and she is left alone for the remainder of the week. She tries to get her schedule together and make her way back home, but destiny and Tullamore's ghosts have other plans for her. Shanna is quite a funny character, the way she gets freaked out and over analyzes the situation, I would totally be doing the same thing. And what is there not to love about a sexy gardener with a delicious Irish accent, who just happens to be a ghost, lol.

Phantom Mischief is a great, sexy ghost mystery.

Review: Lord Griffin's Prize by Katalina Leon

Title: Lord Griffin's Prize (Emerald Isle Fantasies)
Author: Katalina Leon
Source: Publisher Request
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Length: Novel
Release Date: July 10, 2013
Reviewer: Jasmyn

Tullamore Castle, Ireland, is an enchanted place where the unexpected happens.  Phantom lovers materialize in haunted bads and a lonely griffin patrols the ramparts, waiting to reclaim its mate.  And that's just the beginning.

For the adventure of a lifetime, Maeve de Burgo visits Tullamore to study genealogy.  Through a magggical act and time travel, she becomes embroiled in a dangerous medieval romance and the unfinished life of her ancenstor.  Maeve gets thrown back in time to be captured, ravished and cherished as a war chief's prize.

Ronan O'Griofa is a griffin shifter, the most loyal of creatures.  He's been trapped in limbo as the avenging guardian of Tullamore since 1332 and longs to be free.  When the soul of his wife returns to the castle, he's granted the privilege of becoming a man for one day to be her lover, win her heart and remind Maeve of a bond strong enough to last an eternity.

Part of the Emerald Isle Fantasies series.

Maeve is drawn to Catle Tullamore after a painful divorce - it seems the best place to get in touch with her history and move on from her disasterous relationship.  Tullamore is full of legends and myths, but the one that draws Maeve the most is the story of the griffin.  When strange things begin to happen she chalks it up to an overactive imagination at first, but soon the flashbacks to an ancient time become more and more real.

These flashbacks were by far my favorite part of the story.  While they were not the main part of the story, the characters really came to life and overshadowed their modern counterparts.  Unfortunately, the  modern versions just didn't catch my interest as much as I had hoped.

The story itself was incredibly sweet and very romantic.  Ronan has been waiting for centuries for another chance, now he just has to earn it with the "new" Maeve.  He tries hard, but the sunset time limit is mentioned just a little too often, almost like the reader was expected to forget about it.  Ronan seemed a bit stagnant, while Maeve was very dynamic and adapting to all the crazy things happening around her.

Rendezvous with Hymera follows the development of a beautiful love story and a bizarre chain of events which lead to the investigation of a mystery that falls into a strange and somewhat paranormal discipline - Yoga.

The amateurish investigation starts when Clara DeVine changes her plans for a vacation and ends up in a strange place, where strange things happen. In the scene enters Colin Lambert, a special man from Clara’s past. Their attempts to elucidate the intriguing mystery bring them close again and the unfinished business between them turns into a beautiful and hot love story.
The fate of the female enigma of this story seems to resemble in a strange way that of the people inexplicably lost during The Philadelphia Experiment.

I thought this was a very cool read! It was beautifully written, very descriptive and detailed.  I say love story with paranormal influence because the main characters have no paranormal abilities or attributes. They just happen to be a human couple in the middle of a ghost mystery. Which is totally awesome. I think another awesome aspect of the story is that Clara and Colin have known each other for years and have always felt an attraction for each other but never acted on it,  and after some time apart, they finally see each other again and don't let the opportunity pass. I really enjoyed Clara's character, I agree with mostly everything she says in her discussions with Colin or just thoughts to herself.  It was a very interesting read and the mystery ghost and the investigating by Clara and Colin make it a page turner.

I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to more of Melissa's work.

Love Immortal – Excerpt

Monsters existed.

Lauren had always suspected it to be true, and now she had all the evidence she needed.

One was standing twenty feet in front of her.

It towered over her, yellow eyes glowing in the dim alley between the old redbrick houses of her neighbourhood. Tufted black wiry fur covered it from tail to pointed ears, from the long claws on its colossal paw-like hands to the thick trunks of its hind legs. Her fevered mind said that it was only an escaped wolf from London Zoo, but Lauren couldn’t bring herself to believe it. She’d seen the wolves once. This creature was nothing like them. This was something else.

Its mouth opened to reveal jagged teeth, each the size of her thumb.

Why Grandma, what big teeth you have.

All the better to eat you with.

Icy fingers clutched her heart and Lauren trembled, cold sweat trickling down her back beneath the skinny-fit brown t-shirt. The mad rush of her pulse made her dizzy and unexpended adrenaline stole her strength. Whoever had said that adrenaline made you invincible was a liar. Her legs were shaking so much that they were close to buckling, the gym bag on her shoulder was too heavy, and her thick black winter jacket felt impossibly tight, as though it was squeezing the air from her lungs.

Instinct told her to run.

If only her feet would cooperate.

Her shoulders slumped when the monster took a step towards her and her kit bag dropped to the ground. The shinai case slid down her other arm but she caught it at the last second. The feel of the bamboo sword through the black canvas bag was reassuring and instilled a strange sense of calm in her. Lauren tried to remember her kendo training and everything she had just practiced in class but nothing came to her. She stared at the monster, still trying to comprehend what was happening.

Instinct changed its mind.

Her other hand automatically reached across and undid the ties on the shinai bag. Lauren swallowed and kept her movements slow, not wanting to startle the beast into reacting. The end of the bag flapped open and she reached inside, locking her right hand tightly around the white leather hilt of the bamboo sword. She drew it and let the carry-case fall to the ground.

This was insane.

Her shinai would last five seconds against such a huge creature.

It didn’t matter. Her only chance of escape was to stun it with a direct hit and run for her life. Her knees wobbled. That was, if she could run.

Taking deep breaths, Lauren shuffled backwards as the beast advanced and moved into a fighting stance. She brought her shinai around in front of her, clutching it so tightly with both hands that her knuckles turned white.

One breath. Two. Three.

With a loud cry, she launched herself at the creature. It reacted slowly, glowing yellow eyes widening. Lauren struck it between its ears and it yelped. The sound brought a smile to her face.

It was a short-lived smile.

The monster lashed out, flinging a heavy paw into her stomach and sending her flying into the wall of the alley. Her breath left her on impact and pain blasted through every inch of her. She grunted and fell onto the hard tarmac. Another huge paw flew at her and she rolled forwards to avoid being pulverised. She turned at the last moment and grabbed her shinai, desperate to protect herself. She was too damn young to die.

A low snarl sent a shudder down her spine and fear stole her breath away. Lauren scrambled to her feet and backed off, her bamboo sword trembling in front of her. The moon peeked out from behind a cloud and lit the world. Her heart stopped.

Holy God, the monster was more frightening in the light than it had ever been in the darkness. Long strings of saliva rolled down its fangs and dark fur tufted down its spine, raised like hackles. It wasn’t a wolf, but it wasn’t a man either. It was somewhere in between. An abomination. Something straight out of her dreams.

She’d dreamt of wolves and monsters before, and each time she had ended up fighting for her life.

It lowered its head and snarled again, hunkering down. It was going to attack.

This wasn’t a dream. It was a living nightmare.

Lauren’s fight left her and she moved backwards, faster now. Her heart started at a pace, thumping erratically in her throat. She clutched her shinai and glanced around. It was only just gone ten at night. Someone would pass by. Her neighbourhood wasn’t normally this quiet. Any moment now, someone would come and help her. She’d only left her kendo class fifteen minutes ago and she’d been first out of the door. A couple of the men in her class lived near her. One of them would come. Someone would. Anyone? Thirty-four was definitely too young to die. She didn’t want to be killed in the night as her parents had been.

She opened her mouth to call out for help but no sound left her lips. Her voice had died the moment her eyes had locked with the monster’s ones. She saw her death reflected in them, saw how easily it would tear her to shreds and how she wasn’t going to make it out of this alive. Emptiness settled in her mind, ringing in her ears.

Cold stillness shrouded the world.

The beast leapt.

Her heart leapt too.

Shrieking, Lauren raised the bamboo sword to defend herself and flinched away, screwing her eyes shut. Only sound came to her.

The sing of metal cutting through air, an ear-splitting howl of pain, and then a wet slapping noise.

Silence followed.

Lauren breathed hard, hunched up with her bamboo sword still held in front of her face. Her rough gulps of air filled the night. When everything had been quiet for a minute, she realised that something had happened to the monster and that she wasn’t dead. She cracked an eye open.

The first thing she saw made her retch.

Spread across the alley were guts, blood and the two halves of a naked man. Her stomach rolled in response to the gruesome sight and she took a step backwards. It hadn’t been a man a moment ago. Her eyes hadn’t been lying to her even though her mind had. It had been a monster—a wolf that could stand on its hind legs, over six feet tall, and had tried to kill her. She looked at her bamboo sword. Splatters of blood covered the length of it, soaking into the white leather cap at the end. She couldn’t have killed him with it. It wasn’t possible.

The sound of steel sliding against something made her look up.

Her eyes widened and she dropped her weapon.

A tall man stood opposite her on the other side of the dead person. His long black coat fitted snugly to his slim frame and the stand up collar rose so high that it created a funnel that masked the lower half of his face, held closed by two thick bands of bright gleaming metal across the front. The wind tousled the finger-length spiked strands of his dark hair, shifting them across his pale forehead.

Shimmering silver eyes stared at her, pupils wide in the low light.

Her heart thudded in response to the jolt she felt when her eyes met his.

How many times had she looked at someone and not felt anything? Every day she met the eye of people on the Tube or at work, or even her opponent in kendo, but she’d never experienced a jolt that shook her to her core.

Never had she been so aware of making eye contact.

The longer she looked into his eyes, the calmer and warmer she felt, until she wanted to stare into them for forever. Something about those eyes, about this man, was so familiar. She was sure that she didn’t know him, but at the same time, she was certain she did.

He stood unmoving, a sense of resolve about him. Everything suddenly felt like nothing but a nightmare, a vivid dream that this man had roused her from. His eyes narrowed. Invisible arms wrapped around her, holding her as soothing whispered words filled her mind. She was safe now.

Instinctively, she took a step towards him.

He lowered his head, giving Lauren the impression that he was bowing to her, awaiting a command or perhaps something else.

The man raised his head a fraction, so his eyes met hers again.

She snapped out of her trance when, without any sign of emotion, and with precise and practiced grace, he slid the long curved katana he held into the sheath hanging at his waist. The blade was clean but blood splattered his hands.

Lauren swallowed her heart and the fear that rushed through her again. Lost in his eyes, she’d forgotten what had happened. Everything had seemed so normal and the monster hadn’t existed. Now she was back in reality, standing in an alley with a dead man at her feet and the man who had killed him opposite her.

His silver eyes flashed in the moonlight.

Another monster?

She made no move to run, or to look away, not when he approached her and not even when he stopped two feet away, towering over her. She couldn’t move. His eyes had mesmerised her again. They melted from brightest silver to ice blue and she didn’t even try to convince herself that she’d imagined it. They had changed. Ribbons of black hair caressed his forehead and her fingers itched to brush them away, to stroke his skin in their place and sweep them from his eyes so she could see them more clearly. A strange wave of calm washed over her again, only this time the feeling went deeper. She felt at peace with the world.

Because no matter what happened, this man would protect her.

Ailis has spent her life pretending she didn't have powers and that things did not go bump in the night. Ailis is now a homicide detective. She is very good at her job and she's pretty sure the serial murders her unit is investigating aren't being committed by a human. In walks the most gorgeous man she's ever seen. What’s wrong with that? Ailis not only knows he's a vampire. she also knows he's the one draining child molesters and murderers and leaving an empty carcass for her to find. Her investigation unearths secrets about her ancestors that take her back to Camelot and the time of King Arthur and Merlin so she can right a wrong committed by her family hundreds of years ago. Can she trust this strange, lonely vampire to help her solve a mystery that could very well end up with her being life challenged herself?

Dangerously attractive vampire, Kenneth has been around long enough to know there are no such things as coincidences. When he meets the undeniably strong willed homicide detective Ailis, he knows there's a good explanation as to why she looks identical to his long dead fiance. He just has to figure out what that might be. When his one hundred year nemesis shows up in Miami and tries to force Ailis to join him, Kenneth realizes her powers are worth something to even the worst of his kind. He pledges to protect her as long as he is still breathing. If those trying to keep her from fulfilling her destiny have anything to do about it, that won’t be long at all.

So, how do I start? Well, I liked the story, I thought it was a good read, the plot was pretty interesting and there was some action in it.  At times I felt like it was just a bit all over the place. It took me a while to read this book, I can normally finish in a day or two, but this one took me almost two weeks.  It's because the first half is really unnecessary. It starts out as a murder mystery with cops and a vamp but then turns into something different (which is the better part of the book). It doesn't really give you a enough background of the characters and story, we don't find out everything until halfway into the book. Once I got there I finished it in no time. I feel as though as a first book in a series it should have been laid out better and more detailed in the beginning. We're introduced to Kenneth, who is a total arrogant a** .  Ailis is pretty cool, she is a detective who knows she's a little more than the average human, but is introduced to a whole new world once she truly acknowledges that she is different and goes back to her roots.

Like I said, the story is pretty good, and I'd like to read the next book so I can see how the legacies continue.

Super Ad/Publicity Agent, Talia Quinton, is poised at the top of her career to receive a much coveted job representing the world’s largest advertiser. She’s shocked and humiliated when the account is given to a rival agent with much less experience. Instead, Talia is ordered to come up with a publicity plan to bring tourists to Romania. An account not worth a tenth of the one she’d hoped for.

But she’s not called Talia the Tiger by the New York ad world for nothing. When she discovers a newly made and abandoned vampire named Drake, she takes on the job of healing and grooming him into the face of her new campaign.

Instead of touting the ancient country's rolling hills and historic castles, she turns the advertising world on its head by bringing Romania’s dark past to the center of the presentation. She proposes they build a fantasy themed amusement park/resort for adults called, DraculaVille, right in the heart of Transylvania. And Drake will pose as Dracula, their spokesperson. A vampire pretending to be an actor, pretending to be a vampire.

Talia’s disturbing attraction to Drake is only one obstacle in her path. She soon discovers New York fairly swarms with warring vampire communities and she and Drake have landed right in the middle of their biggest conflict. On top of that, the odd members of the Romanian National Publicity Committee begin making strange demands that keep Talia constantly on the edge of losing the account and her reputation as New York’s most formidable Account Executive.

As a last straw, Talia and Drake are kidnapped by a ruthless vampire gang and forced to fight for their lives as the clock ticks on completing the assignment necessary to retain the DraculaVille account. Their only hope of gaining freedom is to consent to an ancient vampire bonding ceremony. There's one problem. To complete the ceremony, Drake must kill Talia and turn her into a vampire. But despite her unavoidable attraction to the hunky vampire she saved, Talia's not ready to die.

Loved it!!
Talia is a work-aholic bent on getting the top account in the company, so when  she doesn't get it,  she goes out and has a pity party for herself. Little did she know that not getting the account she was after would only lead her to something bigger and better, and more handsome. She runs into Drake while she is in a hangover blur in an alley, and instantly feels a pull to him, so she saves him. Drake was left for dead after being attacked  and Talia takes him back to her apartment, with her friend Gerri. They figure out that he is a Vampire, though Drake has no recollection of what happened. And that is when Talia comes up with a killer idea for her new account and Drake is going to be the central point of it all. As they work closer together they run into one problem after the other, with Vampires and Ad execs alike. When they think that finally all is good and they can take a well deserved break,  another issue surfaces.

I thought this was a great read!! Not your typical Vampire story, I thought it was fun. I'm glad that the story doesn't revolve just around Talia & Drake.  Felix & Gerri are Talia's friends and are a great addition to the story. And I have to admit  not only was Drake a hot mouthwatering male specimen, but he was also an excellent  cook, the dinners he made sounded  delicious!!
I cannot wait to read the next one!!

He saved her life...

When Annalise Hadley is tossed over the side of her honeymoon barge, the newly-minted duchess knows she's been left for dead -- for her husband's only interest is in her vast dowry, not her muddied lineage. However, she didn't count on a savior. Especially not an honorable, sinfully intriguing earl who will tempt her to risk everything—again.

Now he will seduce her heart and soul

A man with his own demons, Owen Crawford, the reclusive Earl of McDowell, is enchanted by the mysterious, courageous woman he rescued. He will help her heal, teach her to protect herself, and then send her away—so that she’ll never see he’s far from the hero she believes him to be.

But days and nights alone prove that some secrets are meant to be discovered...some desires are too powerful to resist…and some wounds can only be healed by love.

"That was all she ever wanted.  Acceptance. Belonging. Love."
That quote just about sums up the emotional punch of How to Lose a Bride in One Night.

Two emotionally traumatized people coming together to create a happy future is one of my favorite story lines and Sophie Jordan does it well in this one.

What Annalise goes through is terrible. She thought she was finally getting the chance at the fairy tale life she could only previously dream about; Only to have it ripped away in an act of pure malice. My heart broke for the poor girl :(

Thankfully Owen Crawford is there to help pick up the pieces. He's your typically brooding, war hero.

The overall story was one that I enjoyed. Annalise and Owen helped each other grow and reconcile with their pasts. The one fault I found were Annalise's lies. I'm not a big fan of lying heroes or heroines and she really took the cake in this one. For the majority of the book she cries 'amnesia' to Owen about how she came to be injured and washed ashore. At first it worked. Of course she doesn't know the man, so I can understand her hesitancy to admit her past and what happened to her. But as their relationship grew I couldn't understand why she kept up the lies. It drove me a little crazy.
Don't get me wrong, it's still a wonderfully heartfelt book, but I think I would have enjoyed it more if she had just spit out the truth sooner.

Rating 3 1/2

Storm Warrior is a book for those that like more story then romance. I really loved the Celtic world and the characters, but as a romance reader I want the romance in the story to the main part in the world building or storyline. At first you read about Morgan having dreams about a man and then she meets him, but what happens after that it falls flat. It’s not that I just want sex in a book, I’ve read lots of romance books with no sex but I felt those characters romance grow as the story progressed, but not Morgan and Rhys, they didn't even stay together long enough for their romance to develop.

I really could relate to Morgan and I loved how strong she was, but I felt she didn’t want to give Rhys a chance and that she just wasted too much time being apart from him just because she couldn’t see his side of things. Rhys really doesn’t know how to handle things between him and Morgan, but I understand where he is coming from since he has been in Grim form for so many years.

Again a great story, but you just won’t find romance being a top priority. The world is really great and easy to understand so I can see a lot of readers liking this story.
