This book promo giveaway is a young adult so please keep that in mind when you enter.

Crescent Bound by Karli Rush

The blurb is

Alyssa Worthington is the daughter and sole heir to the most prestigious coven in the witch world.  Her childhood has been spent in the mundane human world learning to blend in and hide who she truly is, and it is here, during her last year that she meets a striking ex-high school quarterback from a small town in Montana who will turn her world upside down.

Alyssa holds the element of fire, unlike her best friends Lisa and Megan, who are both air elementals.  It is the elemental powers that reside inside which require positive thoughts and positive actions in order to maintain this magickal connection.  What would happen to a witch that let this get out of control?  How can evil become the driving force behind revenge and death?

Dark secrets, dark magick and a desperate desire for revenge will bring Alyssa to the brink of destruction.  She is being chased, but this pursuit is a silent one and her chaser has but one goal, Alyssa’s complete and total destruction.  Will she overcome this dark threat and begin to live out her destiny?  Will she survive and if so, will she lose herself as part of the price for being alive?  Or, will her destiny rest on being crescent bound?

Authors and Their Pets day 2 with Claudy Conn and her pets

Claudy Conn shares her pets

My name is Cherokee, and my mom is 100% MacKenzie Wolf and life as a hybrid is sometimes confusing. I lying on the grass, and the dark handsome boy, is my son, Rocky the Man.

I love my people, but I would have been an alpha and taking orders…like, ‘sit, down, and no,’ just doesn’t work for me. However, when I can, I try and please them…they are so cute and my man person makes a flirt out of me.

I had the wander lust in me, howling for a pack, and my people thought I needed my own pups. I had five beautiful treasures. Just as I would have in the wild, I appointed my female person as my nanny. When it was time for them to leave our den, my female person sat with me and my son, Rocky the Man, and we cried and howled together late into the night.

They send pictures, and Rocky’s brothers and one sister are all over 175 pounds, but Rocky is 190 lbs. He too would have been an Alpha—except that he is a bit of a clown.
He likes to eat, and because his father was all German Sheppard, he does take orders from our people. He is a big mush, and snuggles them more than I like. I have tried to show him that we only snuggle when we want to be massaged.

My eyes are yellow like my wolf mother, Vanilla Ice, and my feet like hers are webbed as we wolves are wonderful swimmers.

Our people take us to a nearby lake and Rocky and I have a blast.
Our people have a horse and he thinks we should be friends. Not happening. However, Rocky the Man adores the horse…they call him Pride, and so I make allowances. My son likes to run with him. At times, I do as well.

Yes, now and then we have a family howl…not always at the moon, and my people join in and it is quite satisfying. Things are good. I have my people and my Rocky and no longer look to wander…
My female person has pictures of us that you may wish to glance at. There is also a picture of my mother with a friend, an alpha MacKenzie called Shawnee, and his brother Yellow Tail. Have a peek, I hope you like!

Authors and Their Pets day 1 with Dani Harper and her pets

Please welcome Dani Harper and her pets

“Life with author Dani Harper “
an Exclusive by Fiona the Pug
My name is Fiona the Pug and I’m the executive secretary for author Dani Harper. I’ve held this position for four years now, ever since Dani traveled to Anchorage, Alaska to adopt me from the kind people at Polar Pug Rescue. Until then, I’d spent most of my life in a cage having puppies. (I’ve been afraid of cages ever since!)
When I came home with Dani, my whole life changed. Hers did too – she just didn’t realize it yet. Writers require special care you see, and I’m a very good caretaker. I showed her my skills right away by taking care of her very old pug, Scooby. He’d been her Official Muse for years and years, but he couldn’t hear or see much anymore. I helped him by leading him around and helping him to not get lost. I told him when the family came home so he could be excited too. And I sat by his bowl and made sure he ate because he kept forgetting. It helped Dani a lot because she didn’t have to worry so much about her old friend.

When Scooby passed away, we were all very sad. I made sure I sat next to Dani when she wrote, so she would always have a warm furry armrest, just like Scooby had done for her. And it was definitely time to get her moving more! Like I said, writers need a lot of care. So I worked at getting her away from her laptop regularly. I would suddenly “have” to go outside, and then I would “have” to come in. We went walking along the hiking trails every day, and my very favorite place is the beach (I’d never seen one before in my whole life. I just can’t resist running and running when my feet touch sand!)

Guarding the writer is part of my job as executive secretary. Writers have to be protected from interruptions such as the Evil Paperboy on weeknights, and the Invasion of the Garbage Snatchers on Friday mornings. I have to keep my eye on the TV as well. There are all kinds of creatures on it. I bark at them all, but especially at horses and camels. You just can’t trust camels!

White noise is very important. It helps writers concentrate by blocking out outside noises, but it has to be constant, rhythmic and steady in order to work. As a pug, I’m naturally equipped to create useful white noise, although it’s usually mistaken for snoring and wheezing.

My most important job as an executive secretary is to listen to Dani’s ideas. A writer needs a sounding board to see how a story should develop. I lean my head to one side to show that I’m paying close attention. And sometimes when the story isn’t going well, I lick Dani’s elbow while she’s typing or rest my chin on the keyboard. Just to encourage her.

It’s a lot of work looking after a writer. I was so glad when Dani went back to Polar Pug Rescue and adopted an assistant for me. I don’t think she understood quite what I was looking for, however. Toby doesn’t take dictation at all, and he makes terrible coffee. He had a pretty rough life though – he’d been hit by a car and had a broken leg when he got rescued. He’s all better now, but he’s still very young and inexperienced – a big puppy really. In fact, I’ve ended up being his mom. I don’t really mind too much, though. He has other talents. Writers need lots of love and he is definitely a “weapon of mass affection”. Also, writers need to laugh regularly so they don’t take their work too seriously. Toby and I play tag around the living room and steal toys from each other to entertain our writer and keep her mentally healthy. We also make sure to scatter toys from one end of the house to the other – it’s good exercise for Dani to pick them all up every day. Writers have to stay flexible.

Now as Dani’s right hand pug, I know all her secrets. Of course I’m not going to reveal – cheese? Is that cheese in your hand? Really? Well, maybe I could let you in on a few little things. Nothing important, mind you but – omigosh, I loooove cheese. *whispers* Okay, here’s the dirt – Dani is a pillow monster. I mean it, she has FOUR on her side of the bed, and she’s negotiating for five. She says that they’re for sitting up and reading, but I have it on good authority that she makes a nest out of them at night. I mean, that’s what any self-respecting pug would do with them, right?

Ahem, I have to go now. I see Dani is opening up her laptop in the kitchen. Toby! We’re on duty now – check the living room window and see if the garbage truck is coming…

PS – PLEASE SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL ANIMAL RESCUE GROUPS. If you would like to check out Polar Pug Rescue in Anchorage, Alaska, go to http://polarpug.org/  They accept PayPal donations if you want to help with the medical expenses that so many of their foster dogs have. GIVEAWAY – Dani is offering a signed copy of her latest PNR release, Changeling Dawn, plus a tote bag to put it in! Just leave a comment that has something to do with pets (Fiona says she would prefer something about pugs, but we’ll open this up to ANY pets – not everyone is lucky enough to be a pug!)  Draw closes at midnight EST on May 13th and a winner will be chosen at random on May 14th.

Discussion of the month May 2012

Fact or Fiction; Is a book always worth its hype?

We all know what hype is and any author would want you to be hyped about their book or series. I can't blame them one bit.

We know hype is everywhere these days from books to movies to food. Movies trailers are played over and over. New book releases are advertised endlessly and food commercials... well that's a whole other blog!! LOL.  By the time you pay the high price for the show or book and wait oh so impatiently to get your turn at watching or reading your expecting the best of the best, right?

What about those times when the letdown can be pretty bad if it turns out that all that hype was just that, Hype!! No memorable scenes. No fabulous story, you’re just left wondering what was all the hype? Oh ya! I've been there and done that.  LOL

Ever have a friend recommend a book or series over and over or hear about it everywhere you turn to point that you lost interest in it?
Did you give in to the pressure and give a try?

Is there a book or book series out there that's driving you crazy to either buy or not buy because of the hype?

Interview with cover model Jason Baca Giveaway

Please welcome cover model Jason Baca!

Laurie- How long have you been a cover model?

Jason - Well I have been a model since 1997, but a cover model since 2008.

Laurie- What’s the best perk of being a cover model?

Jason - The most satisfying feeling you get in the world is seeing yourself there on the cover of one of these romance novels. Growing up as a kid my family never really thought outside the box. They tried to keep me thinking ordinary or like regular people. I always had big dreams.. Dreams of me being a pro baseball player or being a romance novel gladiator.. And now here I am talking to you about how it’s all going. It’s not a career just anyone can do so it gives me lots of confidence. The perk of it all is being able to tell people with authority that this is what you do for a living.

Laurie-Do you have any hobbies?

Jason- Of course... If I didn't, I'd be a pretty dull person I'd think.. Yes I enjoy exercising, biking, lifting weights, watching Jersey Shore, going on long vacations too far away peaceful shores and resorts. I also enjoy gardening and have a hard time throwing away Avocado pits... I always want to plant them in my yard somewhere.. I have 10 or so sprouting up around the yard currently.. I often wonder... will the next guy that moves in here have to buy any avocados ever?

Ollie-Give us some stats (the ladies always want to know that) Height, weight.

Jason - I am 5'11" 170lbs. I have an athletic body and always will have it that way! I believe in taking care of myself as hygiene is a priority in my life.

Ollie- What did you do before you got into modeling and why?

Jason - Well in college I played for my college baseball teams... I was originally focused on doing that for a living, but it didn't work out that way... Then I became a bellboy at a hotel for a year or 2. This was the low point in my life because I had no clue what to make of myself. What was I here on earth for and how could I contribute?

Ollie-What are the biggest misconception people may have about you being a model?

Jason- That all models are equal. That all have a bad attitude and think they are the hottest creatures around. I am not one of these. I greet those with a smile and don't put myself at a different level than anyone. Right away people will either treat me one way or the other. They will either love me or hate me right off the bat. For those that hate me... I always find myself proving to them that I'm an ok down to earth person, then they loosen up a bit.

Ollie-How do you keep yourself grounded without falling into the negative aspects that may occur in your profession?

Jason - Well I have a pretty clear cut goal of what I am after in this business. Nobody or nothing can come between it. I have had plenty of negative remarks thrown at me about what I'm doing but I just push it aside. I am achieving more and more of what I'm after in the business. If your mind gets trapped into the negative aspects of any career, then your brain will shift its attention toward what you are doing wrong instead of what it should be thinking about which are the positives. That is why so many people don't achieve their goals... They fall victim to these messages and read into them.

Cynthia- What is your daily physical and dietary regimen that allows you to stay in your peak condition?

Jason - Ok Cynthia... you had to ask so here goes....  Every morning, I get up and stretch. I put an ice pack on my face which helps if I'm a little puffy around the eyes. This also helps me wakeup from a long nights slumber. After stretching, place a small amount of Barbosal shaving cream into the palm of my hand and lather. I apply the shaving cream to my face and leave on for 1 minute so that it penetrates my skin. Then I shave my face using Gillette’s Hybrid Advance Triple Action Blade. In the shower, I begin with the Honey vanilla body wash along with Olay's restore botanical fusion body wash. I rinse then use Olay's total effects Anti-Aging Body wash. For the face I use, Ultra-Rich Shea Butter Creme wash followed by Clean & Clear's Morning Burst which is an in-shower facial. Finally The body shop's pour homme face wash.

That is for hygiene.. As for physical activity, I perform a wide variety of muscle development exercises that I feel really put me at an advantage over my competition. I do a rigerous workout in the morning usually and make sure to really focus on trouble areas such as abs and chest. I make sure to do the exercises slowly and perform the movements correctly. I workout for 1 hour per day. No more, No less. If I find myself in the club longer then 1 hour, then perhaps I had taken too much time socializing which I shouldn't be doing in a health club anyways.

As for diet, I don't put any foods in my body unless they are useful to me. If they provide me proper nutrients and minerals then I will consume them to their fullest. I live inside a balanced diet containing mainly chicken, fish, and fresh fruits that are organic. Anything outside of those food groups and I usually question their benefit.

Kris-Do you get to travel to interesting locations?

Jason- No not really, I get to go to Southern California if anything. They flew me to Northern Washington one time out in the woods which was beautiful.  If so, where was your favorite place? Going up to Washington was quite fun. They had me take a train back to the airport which was odd but unique because it takes you right through all the overgrown tundra. The greenery is so thick up there that it captivates the mind.

Kris-Do you ever end up reading the books that you're on the cover of?

Jason-I do on occasion! I would have to say that I have been intrigued at how much thought and creativity goes into writing one of these novels. Sometimes I find myself In Too Deep as Genesis put it.

Kris-Do you ever go to the book signings with the authors?

Jason-No, but I've been offered to go with them to the RT conventions. I plan on attending one soon. I think it will be neat to see all the authors there.

Jason is giving away a copy of an autographed head shot to one lucky commentor. US only and please leave your email.

She needs courage, wit, skill, and the enhanced physical abilities she gained by slipping dimensions to succeed as part of an elite team, but distractions abound with four men in hot pursuit: three want her affections, one wants her life.

Of course a young woman could suffer worse problems than having gorgeous men in love with her. Perhaps more importantly, in the midst of an epidemic of vampire related abductions, can she stay alive long enough to choose between the devotion of the noble and stalwart knight who has saved her life twice, the charm and sexual magnetism of the fun loving elf who wants to claim her as his mate, or the passion of the intensely seductive, six-hundred-year-old vampire?

Guest romance author Juliana Stone

Please welcome guest author Juliana Stone!

I want to thank Bitten by Paranormal Romance for having me here today, to help celebrate the release of Wicked Road to Hell.  A lot of people have been waiting months to read his book, and I am so happy he and Ana can finally have their HEA!

For today’s I thought I’d do something different and combine my love of words with my love of writing and tell you guys what song best describes each character in Wicked Road to Hell!

First off, sexy sorcerer Declan O’Hara.  He’s tall, hot, with yummy abs and a passionate nature.  He’s loyal and honourable and above all else, willing to do whatever it takes to claim the woman he loves.  He’s like an outlaw in a way and I’m thinking ‘Blaze of Glory’ by the delicious Jon Bon Jovi kinda gives me the right vibe for Declan.

Next up, Ana DeLacrux. She’s a 300 year old vampire, who appears cold and condescending.  She can be rude, harsh and cutthroat.  But she can also be tender, loving and passionate. She yearns for a child she’ll never have and a love that can’t be.  I get sad when I think about her and her past. She’s lost Declan and now that he’s back in her life their future can never happen.  I think of the Dixie Chicks, Traveling Soldier and it totally fits the mood.

Now we get to Nico.  Another tortured male with a anguished past. (what’s with me and all the tortured angst?) LOL.  He’s a Jaguar Warrior who lost his mate tragically and he thinks he’ll be alone forever.  He offered himself up in place of Julian Castille so Julian could have his HEA.  He’s kind of bitter, pissed off a lot, and willing to get down and dirty to get the job done.  I’m feeling Five Finger Death Punch here and their cover of Bad Company.  Oh yeah!

I’ve a new character in this book, alpha werewolf Ransome LaPierre.  He’s smooth as silk, fierce and a real ladies man.  He’s loyal to his pack, his friends and will do what he must to keep New Orleans Safe.  With his dark, honeyed colour looks and sweet ‘Nawlins drawl, he’s one hell of a specimen.  For him?  Burn it to The Ground by fellow Canuks, Nickelback!

I love music and I love words.  Combining them just makes sense! So, any thoughts on a theme song for the book or series?  I’d love some suggestions!

Blurb: With the legions of the underworld gathering and chaos close at hand, Sorcerer Declan O’Hara’s deadly skills will be tested. But nothing will sway him from his duty, not even her…

Rescued from eternal darkness, vampire Ana DeLacrux owes her life to a mysterious stranger who asks for only one thing—her absolute allegiance. She serves this master without question until Declan, the one man who can make her forget her vow, returns. His magic is stronger, darker…more compelling than ever. His blood awakens a hunger she must resist, or risk deadly consequences.

As Ana and Declan join forces, the streets of New Orleans become a dangerous place for both humans and the otherworld. And the most dangerous place of all is a road Declan’s traveled before…the wicked road to hell.

1.       Would you tell everyone a little about yourself?
I feel way too young to be my numerical age or have kids my kids ages, or to have been married as long as I have. I love animals, chocolate, champagne, snow and hate to sweat. The national anthem makes me misty-eyed, as does anything having to do with the people who have served our country. I am eternally grateful to them. I’m pretty straightforward; what you see is what you get. Deal with it. J

Guest post with romance author Ashlynne Laynne

Please welcome Ashlynne Laynne

Ascher Rousseau: An Alpha in the Making

What makes an alpha male so irresistible?
Is it the strong, sure way that he touches his heroine? Is it the confidence he exudes? Their feral and all-consuming methods of lovemaking? The effortless way they control and take charge of a situation? Or is it simply in a woman’s nature to gravitate toward the “bad boys” that we know are bad for us?
Whatever it is...I’ve always loved bad boys. While, we don’t always marry the wild child, they can be a lot of fun! As authors, I think we’re becoming more conscious of how we portray our alphas. Bad boys now have a sensitive side that makes them even more appealing.
I mean...what woman wouldn’t relish a man defeating the villain to defend her honor, then taking her somewhere and making mad passionate love to her?
Gasp.
Swoon.
The Progeny Series is about finding oneself and growing into your destiny. Ascher and Shauna’s characters change and grow in each book. The series is also about the different types of love—a human mother’s love and sacrifice, Ascher’s love for his vampire clan, sisterhood, brotherhood, and the love of a man for a woman. It was very important to me that there be strong family bonds in this series. But one of the centrifugal threads that weave through this series is the emergence of Ascher’s Alpha instincts.
I love books where we meet strong kick-ass alpha vampires, but I wanted to do something completely different. Instead of the reader meeting Ascher as he will be by the end of the series, I wanted them to go on a journey of discovery with him.

Promo giveaway of an historical romance novella of A Ravishing Redhead by Jillian Eaton

 Blurb
On her wedding night Margaret’s husband took something infinitely precious from her before he disappeared to parts unknown… No, not her virginity. Her dowry! Now she is stuck at his rundown estate without a penny to her name and enough time on her hands to think up a thousand different ways to get revenge against the man who duped her and dumped her.

Henry saw only one way out of his family's gambling debts: to marry a wealthy heiress. Now after nearly a year spent abroad recouping his losses and building a new fortune, he can only vaguely recall what his wife looks like. He remembers her as a sweet, shy girl with beautiful auburn hair and lovely blue eyes. Who then is this entrancing red haired hellion that dresses like a man and swears like a sailor?

Greed and secrets tore them apart. Now fate has brought them back together. Can two strangers find love after marriage? Or will their differences prove too difficult to overcome despite their sizzling chemistry? Find out in "A Ravishing Redhead", the second novella in the Wedded Women Quartet!

Excerpt: Destroyed by a fire and recently rebuilt, the ten stall barn was the only building on the property that had not fallen into a state of disrepair and Margaret was determined to keep it that way. She called each horse by name as she strolled down the freshly raked aisle and one by one they popped their heads over their stall doors to greet her with warm nickers of affection.

Hay was piled neatly at the end of the barn. Filling a wheelbarrow with the sweet smelling dried grass, she fed each horse in turn and when they were all nibbling at their hay exchanged the wheelbarrow for a large bucket of oats. She soaked Poppy’s grain for the old draft mare had little teeth left to chew with, and opened up all of the stalls to let the horses out into their evening grazing pasture when they were finished eating. They filed past her one by one, too used to their daily routine to raise a fuss, and she followed them out to swing the gate closed behind them.
Now came the not so pleasant part, but it had to be done, and after scooping her hair up underneath a floppy hat and rolling up her shirt sleeves, Margaret fetched another wheelbarrow and began mucking out the stalls.
It was hard labor, but she enjoyed the simple quietness of it. A wry smile captured her lips as she remembered how her muscles had screamed in protest when she had first taken over care of the entire stables, but now her arms were strong and easily capable of dumping manure and hauling pails of water to and from the stalls.
She was nearly finished when an unfamiliar whinny rang through the air. Still holding her pitchfork, Margaret poked her head out the front aisle way and watched with interest as a gleaming bay approached. She was so entranced by the horse’s fine build and elegant way of moving that she didn’t even notice the rider until he dropped to the ground in front of her and placed the horse’s reins in her hands.
“Here,” he said, looking past her. “Cool him out and groom him.”
Margaret bit the inside of her cheek to keep from laughing. Oh, she noticed the rider now all right, although he certainly did not notice her. “Would you have me feed him as well?” she asked, deliberately speaking in a low voice.
“Yes, of course,” said the rider in a short, clipped tone. “And have him tacked again in an hour. I will not be staying here long.”
“Might I ask why?”
The rider turned and leveled dark green eyes on her. Margaret held her breath, waiting for him to recognize her, but he merely reached in his pocket and tossed her two coins which she reached out to catch automatically. “Cool him out, groom him, and feed him. I will be back in an hour.”
Without another word he walked away towards the house. Margaret stared after him in wordless disbelief, certain at any moment he was going to turn around and come back. When the front door slammed behind him, she shook her head.

Reviewers wanted!

I am looking for reviewers that can read mainly paranormal romance and erotic paranormal romance. We do get a few other sub-genres in, but not a whole lot. This is an adult romance blog and I like to stick to that category, so no young adult.

Please, don’t contact me unless your serious about doing this. I have had several want to do it and take a book and never heard from them again. That’s not fair to me, I have to answer to the author or publisher. Most people thinks this is just something fun but it’s not it’s work and authors are counting on us to be honest and on time, as I am as the blog owner. I need people who wants to do this all the time and be serious about it.

I do have to limit this to US and Canada residents only, reason I can't afford to mail books international.

There is one requirement, I'll need to talk to you over the phone and it takes a bit of time to go over things.

So, if you think you want to do this please email me and well go from there.

Laurie

THE APPEAL OF TIME TRAVEL-TIMELESS LOVE

Time Travel as a plot device for television, movies or books, seems to ebb and flow in popularity. But the concept itself is fascinating and always appealed to me. Visiting different periods in time, the romance and adventure of being caught up in another era opens up a lot of possibilities.

Timeless Love is a sequel to Timeless Heart (both from Evernight Publishing) and follows the only woman passenger in the carriage. I thought I would be different and instead of having the heroine go back in time as they do in most time travel romances, I would send mine into the future. But not too far, Lady Catherine Worthington lands in 1969!
