What is IRC? The indie romance convention is a celebration of the culture and fantastic talent that has emerged as a result of the independent writer’s revolution. We hope to highlight, educate, introduce, inspire and entertain people interested in the entrepreneurs that have made indie publishing such a success. It is not just writers we hope to highlight, but also those who help them to achieve their goals such as bloggers, reviewers, cover artists, editors and of course, the most important of all, readers. With the advent of the ereader and the numerous apps for digital reading on just about any mobile device, it would be a safe bet there is a significant portion of the population who hasn't or won't read a traditional print book again.  It doesn't matter what the book may be:  fiction, history, cookbook, repair manual, textbook (Don't they even "rent" the digital ones now?), comic book....I could go on and on.  It's a shame too, because they will miss the singular joy of spectacular art work beaming at them from the coffee table.  But that is not why I'm here today.

I'm here today talk about quirks.  Specifically, how we treat our print books.  I'll go first.

  • I do not write or underline in my books. Nor do I put name and address stickers in my books.  Just, just eewwww....
  • I do not set anything on top of my books, except for another book. (A wet, circle ring freaks me out!)  And then only when it's laying flat.
  • I never, never bend pages down to mark my reading spot. ACK!!!  I always have some kind of bookmark laying around even if it's a scrap piece of paper. Right now my favorite bookmark is the one my Grandson had made with his kindergarten pictures last year.
  • I rarely, if ever, loan my books.  The person must be someone I know very well, and they treat their books the same way I treat mine.  I have separation anxiety until the book is returned.

Review: Blaze Ignites By: J.L. Madore

Title: Blaze Ignites
Author: J.L. Madore

Genre: Paranormal Fantasy Romance

**I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review**

BLAZE IGNITES blends strong, clever women and tough, sexy men in a fast paced, volatile cocktail of action, seduction and wicked humour.

"Destiny my ass." Jade Glaster refuses to believe the Fates rule her life. After a Scourge attack leaves her orphaned as a child, a young Jade vowes never to be powerless again. Now, grown and strong, wielding the affinities of fire and healing, Jade protects innocents as an enforcer for her world's elite policing agency—The Talon.

When an emissary mission to reinstate a race of exiled Elves brings Galan into her life, Jade finds herself overwhelmed by new passions, some welcome, some not. Although Galan's antiquated views on women offend her to her heated core, when the Scourge target his family, she helps him navigate the outside worlds he knows nothing about—the magical Realm of the Fair and, stranger still . . . the modern streets of Toronto.

Through their sensually charged pursuit of justice, Jade discovers that when dealing with the Fates—destiny is never random.

Jade is sent on a mission with her sister to acquire and safeguard a relic, and reinstate a race of Elves who have been exiled for over 8000 years. When she meets the three elves on the mission she is instantly and regretfully attracted to Galon, only regretfully because his mentality is ancient since he has been in an exiled community. Gallon however learns quickly that he needs to change with the times if he wishes to integrate properly in the new world and win Jade's heart.

I never really read too much fantasy but I really enjoyed Blaze Ignites, a little different from what I usually read but I'm glad I did. Blaze Ignites was an excellent story, very well written, and I loved all of the action and twists. I thought it was a great read and am looking forward to more of the story.

Three Mice

Three Badass Mice

Three mice sit in a bar. The first one brags, "I am one bad ass mouse! In my hood, we have huge mousetraps. I take the damn cheese out of all of them."

The second one brags, "Well, I'm a bad ass mouse too. In my hood, I mix rat poison with my milk and chug it down every night before I go to bed."

The third gets up and starts to leave. The other two mice both yell, "Hey chicken, where do you think you're going?"

The third one replies, "Going home to fuck the cat."

Review: Blackwood Lily (Blackwood Wolves #1) by: R.L. Kirk

Title: Blackwood Lily (Blackwood Wolves #1)
Author: R.L. Kirk
Source: Review Request
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Length: 328 pages Paperback
Reviewer: Emi

**I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review**

Amidst a war of attrition and a struggle for power Lily Blackwood is torn between two strong men... One, Wallace is her perfect idea of a partner, loving, loyal and handsome. The second, Bryn, is her true mate, the man chosen for her by nature and her family. Denial and naivety for nature’s choice, sends her into a rage of independence against the laws of her own destiny, family and her own father.

Wallace Kirk is assigned to protect the beautiful Lily since her birth... His loyalties are tearing him apart. His own mate, dead, taken from him, fills his thoughts as Lily begs for his attention. She needs him, but not as much as the wolf that prowls in her flesh.

Bryn Kemp's nature and need fill his flesh... Yet his true mate, the woman chosen for him, denies her destiny. His battle for her and his own pride must overcome her feisty rebellious streak.

Both men must fight for her in the throes of oncoming battle and she must make the right choice. A decision that will shape the war.

First, I loved the cover! Love the color and the wolf in the background is great, like danger lurking in the shadows. Though I guess that is the point since there is definitely danger lurking in the shadows for Lily Blackwood. This is the first book in the Blackwood Wolves series and it was awesome! It was an excellent start to the series, it give us enough background about the Blackwood wolves pack and some of the mysticism the comes along with the Blackwood name. And also their very long feud with their nemesis, a vampire who loves wolf blood, and there is nothing better to him than Blackwood blood.
Lily has tried to escape the reality of her future as Alpha. She moves to the city, goes to school, gets her degree and now works at an art gallery. But destiny can only be put on hold for so long and when she starts to realize that she needs to take her rightful place in the pack and is bombarded with information and is on info overload, she finds that she and her sister may also be the target of their greatest enemy. Wallace is Lily's best friend, he protects her and helps her in her times of need, but unfortunately he is not her true mate. Bryn, who is switching places with Wallace for protective duty, may just be the candidate that Lily is looking for. But will they find out before danger strikes?

If I had to choose who it would be, I'd say Wallace, he just did something for me in this story. Totally Alpha hot, lol. I thought this was a great introduction to the series, and an amazing read full of action and shifter hotness. I'm totally looking forward to the next installment.

Review: Any Witch Way by Dylan Newton

Title: Any Witch Way
Author: Dylan Newton

Genre: Paranormal Romance
Length: Novella
Publisher: Wild Rose Press

Graduate student Lily Andrews resigned herself to a life of perpetual virginity. With her recent twisted appetites and weird fugues hospitalizing every would-be boyfriend, it's no wonder she uses her coursework as an excuse not to date.

Then, she meets a witch.

Joshua enters Lily's life to complete penance for a deadly spell cast centuries ago. Joshua must counter Lily's demon-wrought fugues with his own Wiccan magick, or lose her forever.

As the pivotal Wiccan holiday, Samhain, approaches, time is running out. Together, they must battle an ancient dark force, fighting for their lives and their new-found love...ANY WITCH WAY they can.

Lily has a huge problem with her libido.....she tends to black out into violent episodes should hers ever arise. Because of this she has given up on all things related to the male persuasion....until Joshua comes into her life.

Joshua is a special kind of witch that is hell bent on showing Lily that she is a weirdo~just cursed. And he is the key to helping her break that curse.

I was a fan of Newton's book Despite the Ghosts and  was just as pleased with Any Witch Way. I was very excited to read that she held was able to keep the truth in the craft while introducing Lily to it with a real world way of how some people take to the craft.

Avery well written novella and quick read. Lily is a real likable character yet Joshua seems to be stuck in time. There were moments when his dialogue came across old fashioned for me even for the storyline.

Because the story was good and had a few twists and it was a new type of take on the cursed damsel I gave it a

Review: Hell's Knights (The MC Sinners #1) By: Bella Jewel

Title: Hell's Knights (The MC Sinners #1)

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Sex. Who really knows sex? I mean, we've all had sex, great sex even but when you get down to the details, how many of us actually see sex for the raw, primal act that it is?

I thought I knew sex. I've had sex. Heck, I've felt lust. Once, I've even felt love. I thought I knew exactly what sex was.

Until I met Cade.

He's the meaning of sex.

He's a biker.

He's dangerous.

He's powerful.

He's dominant.

He wants me.

My world is about to change, for the better? I don't know. But here's my story, I hope you're ready for it because it's not the beautiful, heart wrenching story most people have to tell. It's passionate, forbidden, morally incorrect and downright, fucking beautiful.

Loved it!! I love foul mouth, dirty talking, bad a** characters!
Addison has had a rough life, I couldn't imagine how anyone could deal with that kind of pain. I hate to say but even though this is a work of fiction, we all know that crap like that happens everyday in real life. But she comes out of it, she survives but is now on the run, so she seeks help from the only other family she has, even though she hasn't seen him since she was four. When Addison goes to her father's MC for help, she meets Cade, and well who wouldn't be in lust at first sight, lol. But as things start look up for Addison, her past catches up with her and sh*t gets crazy from there.
I loved it! I devoured it in a few hours, I literally had to force myself to put it down so my bladder wouldn't burst lol. If you love hot bikers, foul language, and crazy sex, then you will loooooooove Hell's Knights.
I cannot wait to read about Spike!!

Book Spotlight, Giveaway, and Review for: Someone Else's Skye (Men of Brahm Hill, Book One) By: Christine Wenrick

Title: Someone Else's Skye (Men of Brahm Hill, Book One)

Source: Review Request

Genre: Paranormal Romance

Length: 306 pages

Reviewed by: Emi

One night . . . one violent, supernatural battle . . . and five stories of the men whose lives will be changed by it.

Kane, Brethren Guardian and one of the few Natural Shape-Shifters left in existence, survives the bloody battle of Brahm Hill but loses two of his closest friends. For all of his good-natured sarcasm and eye-popping good looks, Kane finds himself unable to completely forget about that night, so he seeks comfort in the one thing he is truly good at . . . sex!

This shape-shifting bad boy believes in having a good time—a very good time, usually involving mingled heavy breathing with a sexy Dhampir in a tiny closet somewhere. But when Kane is sent into the freezing tundra of the Northwest Territories to investigate a troublesome supernatural being reported to be on the loose, he soon crosses paths with a woman who almost instantly drives him insane with desire . . . because she doesn't seem to be falling for his charms.

It’s completely inexplicable.

Skye Matthews has a job to do, and she needs to be focused on that, not spending all her time rebuffing the advances of this way-too-cocky and handsome stranger. Yet, there is something irresistible about this self-involved playboy that she can’t seem to ignore. And when the 'Unidentified' Kane is sent to investigate takes an unnatural interest in Skye, protecting her becomes the Guardian’s top priority.

But . . . can he save Skye from a supernatural being no one has ever encountered before?

My Review:

Someone Else's Skye is the first book in The Men of Brahm Hill series, but it is a follow up series to The Charmed Trilogy, which is another great series. I definitely recommend that you read that first so you can get better acquainted with the characters.  And trust me once you meet Kane, you'll be speed reading to get to his book, lol.  I liked all of the characters in The Charmed Trilogy, but once I was introduced to Kane, I couldn't wait to read his story. I have been looking forward to Someone Else's Skye, and it did NOT disappoint in the least. When I starting reading it, I just assumed it was going to be a good vs evil kind of thing, but I was so wrong. It had me turning the pages quickly to see what was going to happen next.  I was just like, Wow!! What an amazing read!

When Kane and his friend and fellow Guardian Aiden travel to another Brethren Location to help out with a mysterious being, he finds himself distracted by the most beautiful woman he has ever seen. He assumes that while he is working on finding out more about this new paranormal entity he could have some fun with Skye, but he has quite the challenge ahead of him. Skye Matthews recognizes Kane instantly from that night on the  battle field, but says nothing of it, and tries her best to ignore his advances and stay focused on her assignment. Eventually, like all determined men do, he chips away at her resolve and gets a little taste.

Someone Else's Skye was a great read! I cannot wait to see who of The Brahm Hill men is next, though I have a hunch on who it may be.
I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did.
