In Lavinia Kent’s luscious, erotic historical romance, a free spirit learns her true desires from a master of the heart, of the body—and of the sweetest discipline.

Lady Bliss Danser, daughter of the Duke of Mirth, is a scandal waiting to erupt. Which is why her highly conventional brother wants to saddle her with Stephan Perth, Earl of Duldon, the only man he thinks will marry her. Worse, Stephan keeps threatening to punish her, to teach her just how a woman should behave. His words may cause Bliss to tingle in the strangest places, but that doesn’t mean she likes the man himself.

Stephan has secretly desired Bliss for years, but he knows how close he is to losing his beloved. Careful not to rile her impetuous heart, he promises only to aid Bliss in her search for another fiancé. And if she’s determined to understand the male body first, he’s happy to comply in that regard as well. However, she must follow his rules or face the consequences. Slowly he takes Bliss to the darker, steamier side of his world . . . where she realizes that Stephan is everything she’s ever wanted.
I think this one just wasn't what I had expected.  I had expected a little more seriousness on the historical aspects, but it seemed that the history was more of just a bit of a backdrop for everything instead of an actual part of everything.  I really enjoy my historical settings and this one fell a little flat there.

The erotic part of the story was definitely on point.  It's more of a low key BDSM with some light bondage, spanking, and feathers for the most part.  But it was very sensual - he loved the anticipation.  The scenes were written beautifully and they really flew above the rest of the book.

I also like a lot of story to go along with my erotica.  It fell a little flat there as well.  Bliss's reason for not wanting to marry Stephan is a pretty bad one, once we find out what it is.  She refuses to tell him why she's been mad at him for several years though - it just didn't make sense to me at all.  He does everything he can to show her that he cares and wants her, but a very minor slip years ago looks like it is going to ruin their chance at being happy together.  This part was just too drug out for me.

I did really like the characters overall - just wasn't quite enough to balance out the rest of it.

Marry, Kiss, or Kill with Susanna Ives - Author of Wicked, My Love

Title: Wicked, My Love
Author: Susanna Ives
Series: Wicked Little Secrets
Publication Date: March 3rd, 2015
ISBN: 9781402283604

A smooth-talking rogue and a dowdy financial genius
Handsome, silver-tongued politician Lord Randall doesn’t get along with his bank partner, the financially brilliant but hopelessly frumpish Isabella St. Vincent. Ever since she was his childhood nemesis, he’s tried—and failed—to get the better of her.

Make a perfectly wicked combination
When both Randall’s political career and their mutual bank interests are threatened by scandal, he has to admit he needs Isabella’s help. They set off on a madcap scheme to set matters right. With her wits and his charm, what could possibly go wrong? Only a volatile mutual attraction that’s catching them completely off guard…

About the Author:
Susanna Ives started writing when she left her job as a multimedia training developer to stay home with her family. Now she keeps busy driving her children to various classes, writing books, and maintaining websites. She often follows her husband on business trips around Europe and blogs about the misadventures of touring with children. She lives in Atlanta.

Marry, Kiss or Kill
Today we are pleased to have Susanna Ives join us for a round of Marry, Kiss or Kill! For this stop, we asked her to choose between Captain Hook (from Once Upon a Time), Mr. Darcy, and Rhett Butler:
“I’m breaking the rules here, but an Atlanta girl is going to kiss AND marry Rhett Butler.  He needs all the good luvin’ he can get to make up for that Scarlett chick. She just used him just like she used everyone to remodel that plantation of hers.

So sorry Captain Hook and Mr. Darcy. But, frankly, my dears, I don't give a damn.”

An Excerpt from Wicked, My Love:

She stationed herself by the window and scowled as if to say to the people looking in her window for vacant seats, Don’t get in this carriage. It’s occupied by a dangerous, sleep-deprived, hysterical woman who wants to be left alone. Stay away. Stay away. When the conductor’s whistle blew and the train started to rumble underneath her feet, she released her held breath and rested her head against the back of the seat.

Wham! The carriage door flew open and a brown leather bag went flying past her, hitting the opposite wall. Randall leaped in just as the train lurched forward. “Good morning, love.”

“W-what are you doing?” she cried, the great plan that she’d spent the night weaving suddenly torn to shreds. “You’re supposed to be getting your black heart shackled to some beautiful nincompoop.”

“You didn’t really think I was going to let you go alone?”

“No, of course not,” she stammered, feeling stupid. Why was she so terrible at understanding subtle meanings? She took everyone at their literal word. She should have known better from that slippery snake of a man. After all, he was a politician, and a good one, in a profession not renowned for its honesty and forthrightness.

He sat himself down beside her, his woodsy scent clogging her nose and setting her nerves alight. She switched to the opposite seat. “And don’t sit next to me. I don’t want people to think we’re lovers.”

“We’re lovers?” He shot her a sly glance. “Did you get me foxed out of my poor wits, take advantage of me in my defenseless state, and then not have the courtesy to tell me? Did I enjoy it?”

She refused to dignify that bit of lunacy with a direct answer. “Your mother, Judith, everyone thinks that I l-love you. Oh, my throat hurts for uttering such moronic nonsense.”

He extended his legs, cupped his hands behind his head, and let a charming smile laze on his lips. His blue coat molded to his lean, flat belly and the contour of his sex bulged in his brown trousers. “Naturally they think that,” he said. “What’s not to love?”

She averted her eyes, determined not to look at his male part. However, the generous, manly swell in the fabric was now emblazoned on her brain. “I really don’t have the time to discuss all the things that I don’t love about you. The list is quite long, and I’m a bit upset. I didn’t get any sleep, and now you are here to complicate everything. I just…just want to read.” She unfurled her journal and bowed her head, hoping he would take that as a cue to be quiet.

She gently rocked in her seat, as if it were a comforting cradle, trying to keep her curious eyes from roving back to his lap as she read and reread the first paragraph in an article about interest rates in the banks of Holland. She had almost made it to the second paragraph when she felt his shoulder rub against hers.

“Just relax,” he said, settling next to her. “We’re not lovers. I detest you as much as you detest me.”

“I don’t detest you,” she corrected. “I just don’t like you some—well, most of the time.”

“I certainly despise you, no question about that. Now that we have our mutual dislike for each other clarified, I think we should play a little game.”

She looked at him askew. “The our bank fails, we lose all our money, and our names and reputations are ruined game? I hear that it’s great fun until they cart us off to the poorhouse.”

“No, it’s the let’s-invent-false-identities-so-as-not-to-cast-suspicion game.”

“Oh.” It made sense. She hated when Randall made sense.

Humans can’t be made into Vampires.

Elisavet Katsaros defied this belief by becoming the first human turned vampire in over three hundred years. Her transformation was an accident, but there’s no going back now. As an agent with the Interspecies Relations board, she’s better equipped than most to navigate the political world run by The Regis, Manias Artorias.

Questions surround Elisavet after this change. Why her? How did it happen? Who is responsible? Above all, how does this affect the rest of the Shadow World? To find peace, Elisavet must look for answers. In digging for the truth, Elisavet uncovers long-buried secrets and the keys to unraveling a murder. Together, she and Manias must attempt to right the wrongs of others and start a new chapter in history.

Working side by side, powerful emotions flare. Manias finds himself wanting to claim Elisavet for his own despite the consequences. Elisavet yearns to capture Manias' heart, to be more than just another vampire under his rule. To have a chance they must put their love on the line and risk it all.
I love going to visit World in Shadows.  There is such a great build up of the story that continues from book to book that is hard to resist.  The characters are so dynamic and developed.  While each book has its own story, they also add a new layer and progression to the overall series.

Elisavet is the first of her kind in hundreds of years.  Her change is dramatic and the shock waves travel well beyond her family.  The world is outraged than a human can be changed and this could be devastating to the constantly evolving relations between humans and the preternatural community.  The build up for this was amazing!

Now Manias is a man full of responsibility.  He has sooo much on his plate, but he gladly takes the care and teaching of Elisavet on - there's just something about her.  As a vampire that is constantly in control, he quickly finds himself overwhelmed and the only way he can guarantee Elisavet's safety is a very drastic step.  I got to learn a lot about the vampire culture and history, and it really helped build the world to something even more than it already was.

The ending just about gave me a heart attack.  It was so well done.  I had a feeling of satisfaction and conclusion for Manias and Elisavet, but there's a hook - not a cliffhanger - that is pulling me back to the world to read some more as soon as I can.

Sadie Pemberton is the DJ at the hottest vampire club in New York City, and she
loves her freedom almost as much as she hates werewolves. She has no desire to tie herself to anyone for eternity—even the deliciously sexy Killian Bane—werewolf prince and heir apparent who has been sent to patrol the city.

But Sadie bears the mark of the moon—the mark that Killian has been looking for, the mark that's meant to reveal his perfect mate. How can the fates be so cruel? Even more importantly, how is he ever going to change her mind?
I had a lot of fun reading this one.  Sadie was a great character.  A vampire and owner of one of the city's hottest night clubs takes up a lot of her time - and now that a pack of werewolves has come to town (and her nightclub) she's getting a little annoyed at them.  Vampires and werewolves don't really get along.  But since one of those wolves, Killian, is the werewolf prince, she has to play nice.

This was a great relationship to watch grow.  The verbal sparring and banter was so much fun!  You knew they really liked each other and were just putting on a show - but it was a good one.  Killian is everything I ever wanted from a werewolf prince.  He is all Alpha and all Male and he knows he wants Sadie.  If she wants to make it a challenge to catch her - well, that's even more fun.

In the background we have the tentative truce between the species and a handful on each side that doesn't care for it.  Also, Sadie is starting to feel a bit weird after taking a sip from Killian - totally loved how this part of the story worked.  The only minor disappointment was the werewolf king, Killian's father.  He's been hyped up as the super bad-ass and then I just didn't get that from him - AT ALL.  Minor complaint, but he had a fairly serious part near the end of the story.

He always wins. And she never gives up...

Rafe McCall has a reputation as the Closer. He rakes in serious cash to make deals happen. Convincing small restaurant owner Frankie Ritacco to sell his business for property development should have been a piece of cake. So Rafe blows into Wilcox, Iowa on his Harley, convinced the deal is all but done. But he is so, so wrong...

For starters, “Frankie” is a woman. A stunning, stubborn woman who wants to preserve her idyllic small town. The Crossroads Café is a family legacy Frankie plans to leave to her future children, and there is no way she's selling—even to a sexy millionaire who makes her heart race. But her café is in serious trouble, and Rafe must decide if he can close the deal...or if he's found the deal breaker of a lifetime.
This book was a mixed bag for me.  I really loved Frankie.  She was fun and had an amazing personality.  The way she related to the "old folk" and "ex-fiances" was so much fun to experience.  Frankie is the big backer behind the campaign to keep the town from being bought up by a nasty developer.  She's fighting hard, but the developer fights dirty.

They send in Rafe.  I didn't like Rafe.  I really wanted Frankie to kick him in the balls and laugh at him for a good chunk of the story.  He shows up in town to try and convince her to sell her business - not realizing the Frankie is a girl and that she also has some amazing legs.  Ok - I can see how the name could throw you, but didn't you do just a little research?  You oh so awesome skills are flaunted several times and this was a serious oversight.  He also continues to try and "do his job" of getting her to sell while falling in love with her and having sex with her.  Such a jerk!!!

In the end he finds a way back into her good graces - but it seemed a little cheap to me.  This book had sooo much going for it outside of Rafe,  Even the old lady's book club was hilarious and just the right amount of random humor.  I just had such a hard time rooting for Rafe to get the girl.

Excerpt

He was a wicked man.
It thrilled her but Cait hid it behind a smile, concealing how he made her heart flutter and her body heat with only a handful of words and a sultry smile.
She had come into Underworld seeking sanctuary, backed into a corner and in need of a crowded place where the male after her wouldn’t dare do anything. He had ambushed her when she had been making her way to the club and she’d had to fight him to get him off her tail. She had barely escaped, twisting free of his clutches as he had attempted to get a wretched restraint on her.
She was no tame kitty and she didn’t want a collar, and that was exactly what the male hellcat intended to give to her.
Plenty of fiery females of her race had met their end in a piece of steel and leather, reinforced by magic to subdue the wearer and place them under the control of another.
Their ‘mate’.
That wasn’t the life for Cait, and if she had to run forever, she would keep on running until she met her true mate, the one fated for her.
She glanced across the heaving nightclub towards the shadowy corner where the big dark-haired male lurked. She could feel his eyes on her and she refused to let him fluster her. She was safe here. He couldn’t do anything in such a public place except glare at her.
If he were foolish enough to try, the staff would step in to protect her.
The owner in particular would. Kyter had always been good to her whenever she had braved leaving Hell to visit his club. He would keep the big male away from her.
Maybe the man opposite her would too.
There was something about him that drew her to him. He felt dangerous for a mortal, an edge of darkness lacing his scent, and power. There was a sense of menace in his looks too, in the intensity of his fierce gaze. He was right and he was a man who could handle himself, despite the fact he was mortal. That sensation of danger had drawn her gaze to him the second she had walked into the club and the sight of him had stopped her in her tracks.
He was handsome, an example of male perfection with his high cheekbones and defined jaw that framed a straight nose, sensual bowed lips and eyes that shone with intelligence and confidence, and a glimmer of darkness. His short dark hair, black jeans and shirt were a contrast to the paleness of those eyes that made them stand out even more.
They were green.
She had been itching to know their colour since setting eyes on him. With every change of song, she had come close to leaving the dance floor and approaching him, barely stopping herself and then finding the strength to resist when the next tune began.
She had given up her fight against his dark allure when Kyter had spoken to him and she had realised that the male knew the big jaguar, and had heard their conversation. One of the perks of being a hellcat. She could tune out any noise in order to focus on one in particular. She had snooped, and what she had heard had been enough to pique her interest and shatter her weakening will to resist approaching him.
A hunter.
His pale green eyes darted between hers and she could sense his eagerness as he held her hand close to his lips, on the verge of kissing it. Cait wanted to push her hand forwards and make him do it, as eager for him to kiss it as he was.
She played it cool instead.
“I’m not sure I should promise to make your wildest dreams come true when I don’t even know your name.” She smiled and he echoed it, his profane lips curving wickedly again.
For a mortal, this male was dangerous beyond all expectation, but she didn’t mean it in the violence and strength sense this time. He was dangerous on another, intimate level. He wreaked havoc on her body and her control, every smile or glance pushing her closer to the edge and making her want to give up the charade they were playing and kiss him.
He wanted her.
She could see it in his eyes and feel it in the way he touched her, his light caress making her burn inside.
She wanted him too.
The game they played was pointless and stupid. Dancing around their mutual desire only made them have to wait longer to get what they wanted.
A taste of each other.
She had waited too long as it was, passing years without a male’s touch, leading a solitary life in Hell. She had grown bored of the hunt and the thrill at the end of it almost a century ago, craving something more than brief trysts with males, even when she pretended that hunger didn’t exist. She had decided long ago that she would spend her life free of the complications of relationships and she had stuck to that plan for countless centuries.
That vow had shattered the moment her gaze had met his across the nightclub.
He had awakened desire in her again, passion that had been dormant and now felt as if it would consume her, need that burned so fiercely she feared it might rage out of control if she didn’t find a release for it soon. Just a glimmer of satisfaction.
A single kiss would do.
For now.
She twisted her hand in his, reversing their positions, and brought his hand to her lips. Her eyes held his as she pressed a kiss to it and breathed him in, his rich scent of spice and fire, and something else branding itself on her senses. What secret did he hold that gave him the strength to fight demons and powerful fae and survive? Whatever it was, it was in his blood, lacing his scent, making it dark and alluring.
His pale green eyes narrowed on her lips where they pressed against his callused large hand.
“Owen,” he muttered and then his voice gained strength as he straightened and lifted his eyes to hers. He looked as if he was gauging her again, studying her reactions. “Owen Nightingale.”
Cait could see why he had been watching her closely now, eyeing her like the hunter he was, no doubt putting everything about her to memory so he could note it all down later.
Including how she reacted to hearing that he was a member of the most illustrious hunter family to have ever existed.
Did he think she would turn tail and run on hearing that he was a Nightingale?
She wasn’t afraid. She was impressed. The perfect and handsome Owen had just become a shade more perfect for her.
“I’m Cait, with a C.” She twisted their hands again and shook his.
He raised a dark eyebrow. “Like Cat, with an I?”
She shrugged and nodded. “My parents thought they were being cute.”
Owen looked her over, a leisurely raking of his eyes from her head to her toes that set her on fire.
His expression gave nothing away, not a single thought or feeling.
“Maybe they thought you were cute and deserved a cute name to match.”
Gods, she wanted to ask what he thought but bit her tongue to stop herself. “Most people don’t think hellcats are cute.”
“I’m not most people.” That flicker of wickedness was back in his eyes as he gave her another once over. “But I can’t really judge whether you’re cute or not since I’ve never seen a hellcat in their true form.”
Cait narrowed her gaze on him and shot him a sultry smile of her own. “I know you’re dying to see me in just my fur.”
He looked as if he might blush, but rallied and fixed her with hungry eyes that left her in zero doubt of his desire. “I wouldn’t say no to seeing you naked.”
She flushed all over, hot from head to toe at just the thought of getting naked with him. She leaned closer, reached her right hand out, and stroked her fingers down his chest. It was as hard as steel beneath the soft material of his black shirt. She heated further, burning hotter as she raced to imagine just how good he would look naked, that honed body on display for her hungry gaze to devour.
Cait wrestled for control over herself and won, refusing to let him fluster her when she was trying to fluster him.
She tilted her head to one side and looked deep into his piercing green eyes. “What’s your view on interspecies relationships? You must like tangling with other species since you’re a hunter.”
His sensual lips quirked into another smile. “I’ve tangled with many species… but never with a hellcat.”
“No?” Cait leaned closer, feeling a little breathless as she narrowed the distance between them. “You don’t know what you’re missing.”
Owen mirrored her, moving closer, his heat washing over her and his heart thumping like a drum in her head, a beat hers tried to match.
“I think I do know.” He raked his dark gaze over her again and scrubbed a hand down over his mouth. “But I wouldn’t say no to finding out.”

Author: Sondrae Bennett
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Length: Novella

He’ll do anything to protect his mate.
The last thing Laurie expects when she bumps into Max at the shifter convention is finding her mate. Certainly not that her mate can shift into a leopard. Wolves and leopards mix about as well as water and oil. Or should she say, dogs and cats. Mating him means leaving her family, her town, and the only home she’s ever known. But the possibility of a happily ever after is worth the risk, right?

Max couldn’t be happier with his brazen, feisty wolf, but returning home isn’t the welcoming affair he’d expected. In his absence, his brother has been attacked within the leap complex. Something must to be seriously wrong. Could someone be using his loved ones to get to him? When his worst fears prove true, his protective instinct goes into overdrive. Will keeping Laurie mean putting her in danger?

Review

Brink of Passion is the six installment of Alpine Woods Shifters. In this installment you’ll find romance, danger, and some lighthearted funny moments. Author Sondrae Bennett does not disappoint her readers as she give us another fun, adventurous romance story that will leave you panting for more.

If you have kept up with the installments you know heroine Laurie is introduced in book one and continues to pop in and out in silhouettes thought the series. Since her name is spelled the same as mine, I have been on needles waiting for this installment to come out. I enjoyed reading the story and I felt like Laurie got the mate she deserved.

I loved the characters and the story but I would have loved for the author to have went into more detail behind the attacks against Max family.

I recommend this book and the whole series to anyone who loves romantic novellas.

This series is more enjoyable read in order

My reviews for this series

About The Author Sondrae Bennett
I love romance. I love reading romance, living romance (who doesn't), but I especially love writing romance. There's no greater feeling than watching my characters come alive in each other's arms. Most of all, I love giving my characters the happily ever after’s they deserve, with a little necessary drama first.

When I pick up a new book and can sink into the story, immersing myself in the emotions between the characters, I know I've found a keeper. I hope someday to inspire readers the same way my favorite authors have inspired me.

I love to hear from readers so feel free to email me at sondraebennett@gmail.com or check out my blog to learn more about me. I dedicate *most* Mondays on my blog to books I'm in love with so come on over and join the fun.

** Part two of a three part serial ** The choice is steep: Stay on the ledge and steal
Van's painting or take the leap and sacrifice her sister. It's another decision in a long line that she's had to make in her life, and though it's easy to make, it's impossible to execute. Jade won't let Cory go until she gets what she wants, but the price for Cory is high. It's never been hard to steal, to lie, but Van changed all the rules. It was the last thing she wanted to do to him. But as much as that choice is agony, there's really only one to make. Betrayal and pain. Love and loss. Decisions and consequences. The edge Cory walks is razor sharp and sky high, but she can't look down. Not until she makes it to the other side.
This story is really starting to get interesting.  As Cory prepares to completely betray Van, she finds herself breaking down, being forced to give up the one person she finally let see a part of her.  But before you start wondering why she would do something like this - well, she isn't really given much of a choice.

Her battle against Jade really comes to a head and everything really hits the fan.  But Cory isn't one to just roll over and take it - instead she comes up with a very dangerous plan to try and make things right.  Now she just needs to pull it off.  I have a feeling Volume three is going to be one hell of an adventure.

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life -- a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can't forget that. She's also been a mom; she has three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She's been a wife; even though she's certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She's also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she's been drinking whiskey. Her favorite word starts with f and ends with k. From roots in Houston, to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she's not writing, she's sleeping, gaming, or designing graphics.

Cover Inspirations: The Gardener of Baghdad by Ahmad Ardalan

This was a very interesting one to learn about.  It has an abstract cover and it's always fun to hear what inspired those images.  If you are an author interested in sharing more about your cover - check out our Cover Inspirations Page for more information.

Cover Inspiration for The Gardener of Baghdad by Ahmad Ardalan:

The Gardener of Baghdad, is a heartfelt love story of a gardener that lived in Baghdad five decades ago. Like Baghdad itself, the cover is a beautiful chaotic piece of art. The many shades of Green at the center of the cover, represent struggle and persistence for love and peace amidst the dark times of a great city. The light on the right side, resembles hope fighting its way through the ongoing years of pain. Can love exist in a city destined for decades of misery?

Goodreads - Amazon

About the Author:
Ahmad Ardalan was born in Baghdad in 1979. At the age of two, he moved with his parents to Vienna, Austria, where he spent most of his childhood and underwent his primary studies. After his father's diplomatic mission finished at the end of 1989, he returned to Iraq, where he continued his studies and graduated from the University of Dentistry. As a result of the unstable political, military, social, and economic conditions in his home country, Ahmad decided to leave Iraq and move to the UAE. After facing difficulties to pursue his career in dentistry, he opted to pursue employment in the business world. Since then, Ardalan has held several senior roles within the pharmaceutical and FMCG industries, throughout much of the Middle East. His early childhood in a mixed cultural environment, as well as his world travels, increased his passion for learning about cultures of the world and inspired him to pen The Clout of Gen, his first novel. After eleven years of being away, Ahmad returned to Baghdad in January 2013 on a visit that was full of mixed emotions. Inspired by his trip to Iraq, he wrote his second novel, The Gardener of Baghdad. He did not stop there, as "Matt" his latest Short Story Thriller Series will be available beginning 2015.

One small mistake in the past will change everything about her future...
Archaeologist Sarah Baxter just broke one of the biggest rules of time travel: leaving a piece of 21st¬century equipment in 19th century Regency England. Unfortunately, when she goes back to retrieve it, she makes an even bigger mess of things—resulting in the death of an English Earl. Now his brother is not only out for revenge, but he also has Sarah's device. Which means an entirely different approach is needed. It doesn't occur to the new Earl of Earnston that his charming acquaintance is responsible for his brother's death. He is merely swept away by a passion that threatens his very reputation. Yet he gets the distinct impression that Miss Baxter is hiding something from him. Now Sarah must find a way to steal back her device, hide the truth about the earl's brother and—most importantly— not fall in love...
Time-travel can be hard to write.  Especially when the time-travel changes present day situations.  Tamara Gill did an amazing job with the small details on this one.  While most of the story does take place in the past - one of the most moving scenes is actually in the present between Sarah and her father.  It was written beautifully and really helped make the story what it is.

Sarah has really managed to make a mess of things - and she continues to do so.  Even though she really only has the best intentions, she seems to have a gift of messing up the past.  When she finds herself falling in love with Eric instead of just trying to retrieve a modern day artifact from him, she knows that she's in trouble.  But they just can't seem to stay away from each other!  Events seemed to just spiral out of their control and it just reminded me so much of real life.

The past was brought to life beautifully.  I loved the people and even Sarah's small mistakes and how the ton reacted to them.  She seemed to make quite a few minor mistakes every day - but Eric just found them endearing (a trait I loved about him).  They were a very fun couple to watch and complimented each other amazingly.  This is the way a time-travel romance is supposed to be.

She was the only Magic Born to ever escape the Rangers. Now there's a ten-million-dollar bounty for her return.

Trancehacker Tuyet Caron could have left New Corinth for good, but instead uses her magic and risks her life on a daily basis to help the Magic Born. She's been careful to avoid capture, but a careless glance at a video camera brings her face to face with the Ranger who let her go.

Captain Dale Hayes let Tuyet walk away once, but he won't make that mistake again. When faced with the ultimate choice, however, he chooses her with barely a thought. But that also means siding with the Magic Born and becoming a fugitive in the eyes of the law.

Tuyet and Dale plan to flee, but are caught in a deadly riot that kills innocent people. Outraged, the pair vows to bring an end to the Magic Laws, regardless of what that means for their own safety.
This book tied up just about all of the loose ends in the series.  At the end we have a fairly solid idea of where the world is headed and our people are happy.  Firewall is really all about getting the world back to a place where Magic Born can live freely and are treated like human beings.

Center to this whole resolution are Tuyet (Snow) and Dale Hayes.  They have quite a bit of history between them but now seem to be on opposite sides of the law.  Tuyet would do anything to avoid seeing him again, but Hayes has hunted her down and now he needs to figure out what to do with her.

Their romance is really more of a re-kindling and learning how to trust each other again as opposed to a new one.  We even get to see their past through a series of flashbacks - while I enjoyed seeing their past, it came up at awkward times in the story that were just a little distracting.  There was also soooo much action going on that at time the romance got just a tad lost.

I really loved the characters and their romance, but it got a little lost in the story of what was going on everywhere else.  The city and the riots were a character unto themselves and there was just a lot going on all over the place as everything was getting resolved.

He'll complicate all her plans...

Amy Morrison is supposed to be at her wedding. But when her husband-to-be jilts her at the altar, a distraught Amy runs to the only place she feels safe—her office. Besides, everyone who works on her floor is at her wedding...except him. Dax Harris. Playboy, executive, and Amy's official office enemy.

While he and Amy don't see eye-to-eye on the best of days, Dax can't help but feel badly when he sees Amy mid-meltdown. Next thing he knows, he's gotten her good and drunk, and they're making out like two teenagers. And since neither of them want anything serious, why shouldn't they be frenemies-with-benefits? Because there is no possible way they could ever fall for each other...
Amy Morrison was amazing!!!  I totally loved her.  I also loved Dax's sister, Kat, and his family.  There were so close to perfect you wanted them to be your's, but had enough "family drama" that kept them real.  We even get to see the couple from book one a quite a few times (they do all work in the same building/floor).

Notice I haven't said much about Dax yet?  He was fun, he was great, but the other characters overshadowed him a bit.  He had a good reason for avoiding relationships - and it took him a looong time to get over it, but you could see him making progress the whole way through the book.  I really liked that part of him.  He was also amazingly spontaneous - there's a scene at a baseball game that made me completely fall in love with him.  I just wish he had shone more in the scenes that involved other strong characters.

They had an almost accidental romance.  They definitely weren't planning on one or looking for one - it just kind of showed up one day.  I loved how much fun the story was.  I was grinning through most of it just because everyone was having so much fun throughout the whole story.  Even the conflict was done in a way that you couldn't help but smile just a little because you just knew these characters could get through anything together.
