My Special Brand of
Dark
Last Vamp Standing (Vampires of Crimson Bay #3) has been
called “the darkest and grittiest of the series” by early reviewers. Although
the heroine is a vampire, and some scenes take place in a bleak urban setting,
I didn’t really think the book was that dark…at first.
Sure, the book features a tortured hero who quite literally
feeds off of sex and violence. There’s a villain hell bent on wiping out
vampires in Crimson Bay. There are vampire elders who wield all kinds of
wicked-cool powers and a kick ass battle at the end where blood spills onto the
page. I winced while writing it. No joke.
Okay, okay, so it’s a bit darker than the others. Why’d I
choose to write the book darker over lighter?
I didn’t choose to write it that way. Not really. I wrote
what I knew. What was in my heart.
My preferences in everything have been dark since I was
young. I read Dean Koontz and John Saul when friends were reading Anne of Green
Gables. I watched gory action movies over Disney from too young of an age.
(Lethal Weapon and Die Hard, anyone?) I even prefer dark chocolate to milk
chocolate…especially if that chocolate is Ghirardelli…with a chilled mint
center. Ahem.
Guess you could say I love “dark and gritty” all around. If
you’re anything like me, Last Vamp Standing just might be right up your
shadowed, adrenaline-lovin’ alley.
Back Cover Blurb:
Tortured by demonic voices, Dante’s soul is as black as they come.
But when he meets Ariana—an innocent vampire fighting demons of her own—he
second-guesses everything he’s ever known about sacrifice, passion, and
soul-scorching love.
Before Dante wages war against Crimson Bay’s greatest threat, he
must make a choice: love Ariana the way she deserves, risking her life in the
process—or fight to protect her, unleashing the monster he’s determined to
bury.

Author Bio:
Kristin Miller has had a passion for language and literature her
whole life. Born and raised in Small Town USA, she often made up stories about
faraway places and edge-of-your-seat adventures.
After graduating from Humboldt State University with a degree in
psychology, Kristin realized there is no scarier place than the warped human
psyche. Wanting to combine her love of writing with her desire to paint twisted
villains, Kristin wound up in the unlikeliest of places—the classroom. She
taught high school and middle school English before giving in to the desire to
create her own world, where villains can be sympathetic and heroes can be
devilishly good.
She is represented by Nalini Akolekar of Spencerhill Associates
Ltd. and writes dark paranormal
romances and toe curling romantic suspense.

I am definitely curious about the series. I got Intervamption and definitely need to get reading. Is this a series of stand alone reads with different characters spotlighted in the same world? I love dark and gritty, but more importantly I love a well written story and looks like this might be a winner.

This series sounds pretty interesting. Thanks for the post and giveaway.

Thanks for stopping by ladies!
ReplyDeleteDenise--The series is better read in order, because there is an overarching conflict that continues through the three books, but each book spotlights a different hero and heroine and their journey to finding love. You can definitely pick up this book first and understand everything that's going on, but if you've got the first one, you'll see where the conflict began. :)
I absolutely love this cover and I am a big fan as of late of dark and gritty. I was going to ask the same question and realized that someone beat me to it LOL. Checking out first book now.

This book sounds great. I read a lot of paranormals, both light/fun ones and darker/more intense ones, depending upon my mood at the time. I would love to read this one and try a new-to-me author.

Dark chocolate is my favorite. I will eat a whole bag of Ghirardelli dark chocolate mints, but now the peppermint bark with dark chocolate....OH MY, that is my favorite of all time. I was dark before I knew what dark was, my first adult book was "Rebecca". I read this book when I was 10 or 11 years old and that was in the late 70s, I read all the library's childrens books and my mother had to move me to the adult section. That book started me on my way to the dark....I even saw the black and white film adaptation. Now married with children, sometimes I lighten my reading with dark comedies, but I slip. So your book sounds perfect for my slip. Thank you for your work. saba121167@usa.net
