Jaguar Pride by Terry Spear: Spotlight and Giveaway

Title: Jaguar Pride

Pubdate: February 3, 2015

 An impossible mission…

JAG Special Forces agents Huntley Anderson and Melissa Overton are hot on the trail of poachers when they’re suddenly saddled with two jaguar shifter cubs. They have to locate the parents, pronto—but who’s going to babysit in the meantime?

A lifetime of possibilities…

Huntley is a rough, tough jaguar shifter and an all-business agent, but he’s not going to let two abandoned youngsters come to any harm on his watch. Seeing her super-manly partner try to get the playful cubs under control stirs up some unexpected desires in Melissa, and she begins to feel like Huntley’s not the only one who’s in over his head…

USA Today bestselling author Terry Spear has written over fifty paranormal and medieval Highland historical romances. In 2008 Heart of the Wolf was named a Publishers Weekly Best Book of the Year. A retired officer of the U.S. Army Reserves, Terry also creates award-winning teddy bears that have found homes all over the world. She lives in Crawford, Texas.

Excerpt

Once inside the park, Melissa and Huntley trekked for miles, not seeing much of anyone or anything, not with the way the rains were coming down in torrents in the steamy rainforest. They hadn’t found any sign of Jackson. Just a few hikers, hardier than most, who endured the rains and mud to see glimpses of wildlife here and there. When Melissa and Huntley finally set up camp for the night, she felt wet and miserable. And she couldn’t believe how Huntley looked like he could go on for several more hours when she was totally beat.

She should have regretted not sleeping more last night. But making love to him was what she’d needed. Not that she thought anything permanent was likely to come out of the relationship.

Just the same, she’d needed to feel sexy and wanted and loved. Huntley gave that to her and more. So when he’d wanted more, she just couldn’t say no, despite knowing that she needed a good seven hours of sleep to feel normal the next day.

She was thinking of Jackson and how he had slipped away from them the first time. She hoped they’d find him soon. Then gunshots fired off in the distance.

Her heart skipped a couple of beats.

“We don’t have time to take down the tent. Do we go as humans or jaguars?” Huntley quickly asked her.

She loved that about him—how he always included her in the decision making. “If they’re rangers or police, I want to go as humans. Even if they’re poachers, I think we’ll be safer if we look like we are ‘tourists.’ We can always shift when we get there if we need to.”

“Sounds good.”

At least they were armed with tranquilizer guns this time.

Enemies. Allies. Lovers.

When her beloved father was assassinated, Lady Aramina swore revenge. The man responsible is well beyond her grasp, but his dangerously seductive heir, Leo Barrons, is fair game. When Mina obtains evidence proving that Leo is illegitimate, she has the means to destroy both the killer and his son, a man who troubles her heart and tempts her body.

A woman of mystery, Mina's long driven Leo crazy with glimpses of a fiery passion that lurks beneath her icy veneer. He knows she's hiding something, and he's determined to unravel her layer by silken layer. He just doesn't expect the beautiful liar to be the key to overthrowing the corrupt prince consort… or to saving his own carefully walled-off heart.
This book was just amazing.  We had gadgets and robots, enemies become lovers, intrigue, and an almost full scale war on the streets of London.  I think that covers so many different types of books I like that I just couldn't help but fall in love with this one.  Mina and Leo are quite the pair.  From the very beginning you can see the interest between the two, but their families aren't fond of each other - so hands off!!  In fact, Mina would love to see Leo's family fall.  But that all gets pushed aside with the crazy prince consort goes - well - crazy.

Then Mina and Leo are forced to work together and realize that there's nothing wrong with changing your mind and opinion on someone.  I love how they came together when they really needed to and their relationship just grew from there.  I also loved that Mina was a mastermind behind a pretty devious plot - I love a devious woman.

There really wasn't much I didn't like about the story.  This one was a big win all around.

Life is never black and white.

It’s a fact Josie knows too well, right next to wanting what you can’t have. And even though Jon is her friend and colleague, he pushes those boundaries on the regular. There are times when she feels like she can’t escape him, and others where she doesn’t want to.

The tension twists tighter every time they meet, but Jon’s unavailable. Live-in girlfriend of years unavailable. As much as Josie cares about him, and as much as she wants more, his flirting is a cruel tease. Unfair. And she’ll push him away if she has to, if that’s what it takes to protect herself.

As far as Aphrodite’s concerned, Jon and Josie getting together is inevitable. But keeping them together may be harder than any of them realize, and what Josie thinks is her happy ending may just turn out to be fool’s gold.
Warning - this is not Josie and Jon's happily ever after.  This is how they met, how they fell in love, and how Jon totally screwed it up.  But - if you're reading the series in order, then you've already had their HEA and the is just a bit of bonus history for them.

I really enjoyed how they interacted with each other.  Both trying not to act on their feeling for the other because Jon currently has a girl-friend.  Don't worry, he's not a cheater, that works itself out wonderfully.  There really isn't a "bad guy" in this one other than life itself and all the wrenches it can throw your way (with a little help from Hera).

Beautifully told, I really loved getting know the two of them better.

Cursed by her incubus father centuries ago, the last thing Rhiannon McLaine wants is
to fall in love.

The night she delivers flowers to detective Mick Farrell, however, everything changes. Deep-seated attraction flares into untamed passion. In the morning, Rhiannon awakens to find she’s lost her heart. Now, unless she can convince Mick of her secret past, she’s destined to take his life.

When Rhiannon asks Mick to go camping with her, instinct warns him to refuse. Though he hungers for her love and the goodness she represents, he’ll do anything to keep her from discovering the darkness within his soul. Yet a weekend in the woods is the perfect place to indulge in temporary desire…until he finds himself bound against his will.

Surrounded by ancient Celtic rites and magic, can Mick see beyond Rhiannon’s duplicity and recognize her love? Or will the revelation of her true demonic nature doom Rhiannon to a mortal life alone?
I am still very much loving the concept behind theses stories.  The perfect mix of good and evil captured in 8 siblings - each having to choose which way they want to go.  Rhiannon has chosen the good.  She's a healer and tries hard to avoid situations that may allow her darker side to emerge.    But you can't really avoid falling in love.  I like that the characters are falling in love with people that are already a part of their lives.  It makes the love seem more true and long-lasting than if they were love at first sight.

I had a harder time connecting to Mick.  He was just too "hard" for my taste.  Not that he wasn't well written - he has an amazing story and it's very well developed - he just wasn't my type.  I think his reaction to some of the events that happened during the "camping trip" were fantastic.  His outrage and disbelief were so believable and I really felt his confusion and betrayal.

This seemed a bit darker than book one - but I can't put my finger on why.  I really enjoyed getting to know another sibling, and we get a fairly good look at another, as well some visitors from book one.  I think as the series goes on and the father gets more pissy things are going to get very interesting.

Bitten by a Hellcat was an amazing story.  Cait is on the run from a male that wants to capture her, collar her, and sell her to the highest bidder.  When she runs into a the famous hunter, Owen Nightingale, she enlists his help in getting rid of the pesky male.  Neither of them really anticipates the sparks that fly between them.

I loved that both Cait and Owen had to play the role of rescuer in the story - no damsel in distress here.  This hellcat can take care of business when she needs to.  Both were willing to do whatever it took to keep each other alive and stay together.

There is a ton of excitement that comes up in multiple different ways - all of which only make the story even better.  Owen has a really big secret that comes into play several times and it was a lot of fun.  I really loved the world and the paranormal lore that Felicity Heaton built.

Love burns hotter the second time around…

Two years ago, the medical world was shaken by scandal, and Payton Daniels's family was at the center of it. The second she graduated, Payton left everything behind―her high school sweetheart, her family, and the controversy surrounding her mother's death—and hid within the anonymity of college. But Payton’s ex, Blake Hiller, hasn't forgiven her for leaving, and when he enrolls in the same medical ethics class, she panics. She can’t run the risk of him telling everyone who she really is.

As if being at the same university isn’t enough, both Blake and Payton land the same internship. Forced together, their passion for each other reignites, but when Payton is asked to testify in her father’s high-profile trial, she must choose between risking her acceptance into medical school to help her father, and losing every connection to her past—including the only guy she’s ever loved.
After finishing book two in the Drexler University series, I just had to read Payton's story.  They were such a cute couple in book two and I wanted to know how they got there.  Well, their journey was pretty rough.

With a father on trial for assisted suicide, Payton's medical ethics class is hell.  Thank god for Jules for helping her to stay sane.  But even Jules can't do too much when her ex-boyfriend shows up in the same class - and ex-boyfriend she ran from a few years ago after her father was arrested for helping to kill her mother.  Ya - sooooo not fun.

Blake and Payton both have reasons for not seeing each other for so long.  What I liked best was that both of them made mistakes and both of them had to apologize.  I liked that neither of them was perfect - it was so very real life and it was my favorite part of the story.  The part I didn't like was Andrew - even knowing that he had an important part to play, he was just too bad of a person.  I couldn't find a good reason for the girls to continue having them as part of their group.

This was a very emotional story for both Payton and Blake.  Payton needs to come to terms with what her father did, and Blake needs to learn to when to let her have her space and when to hold her close.  The end was incredibly satisfying.  I don't think I could have imagined a better one.

Character Interview with Nartan Excerpt and Giveaway: Filthy Rich by Dawn Ryder

Thank you for sitting down with us today, Nartan.  I know you are a busy man and we appreciate the time you took to be here.  First let’s get some basics out of the way before we ask some more in-depth questions.

What is your favorite color?
Blue.
If you could have the perfect multi course dinner, what would it be?
That would be ever changing. I own a restaurant because I enjoy fine cuisine. I enjoy flavor and uniqueness. Life is too short to not live in the moment.
As a man with Native American heritage, how closely to you relate to your ancestry?
Very. And yet, I enjoy the rest of the world.
I understand that you have properties in both Alaska and California.  What is it about these locations that draw you to them?  Do you have a favorite?
I make my home in California. I love the ocean waves. Alaska was where I made my fortune, but it isn’t my home.
When you first laid eyes on Celeste – what ran through your head?  What was it about her that stood out from the other women you had met in the past?
I saw her strength. A spirit like hers is rare. To fail to appreciate it, would have been a lapse on my part.

Thank you so much for stopping by and letting us ask a few questions today!

“Tantalizing” – RT Book Reviews on Out of Bounds

SHE’S FIGHTING FOR CONTROL…
Celeste Connor swore that she’d never be a victim again. After the hell of her abusive ex, the last thing she needs is to be under another man’s thumb. But when she catches the eye of fiercely dominant Nartan Lupan at her best friend’s wedding, Celeste finds herself drawn into a glittering world of wealth and power that has her body aching and her mind reeling.

HE’S FIGHTING TO MAKE HER HIS…
Nartan is a filthy rich businessman who works hard, plays harder, and doesn’t take no for an answer—and he wants Celeste with a hunger he’s never before felt. He’ll do whatever it takes to have her. But Nartan didn’t expect that he’d want still more…

Excerpt From Filthy Rich
She was shutting him out.
Nartan watched the way Celeste tightened her features and looked away from his face. He really didn’t need to get involved. But leaving felt like quitting.
That was something he never did.
“It won’t be over until you pull that weed out by the root,” he informed her. “That’s how that ghost maintains its grip.”
She started to shake her head. “This isn’t your concern.”
He stepped into her path when she tried to make a getaway.
“Or maybe I should have said, it won’t be over until you find the courage to face your demons.”
Her eyes widened in surprise before her temper flickered in her eyes. “Like I said neither of us needs the tension hooking up will create.”
“The way you blush when you look at me says differently.” He shrugged and watched the way her gaze lowered to his shoulders. “Am I the first man who’s excited you since you left the prick? Or am I just the first one who’s made it past your defense system?”
“You don’t—” She bit back the lie, a hint of disgust surfacing in her expression. “My sex drive works just fine.”
He offered her a raised eyebrow. “You’re good at it, the brush off.”
“How would you know?” She questioned. “You don’t look like a man who gets told no very often.”
He chuckled. “Thanks for noticing.”
“Can you even name the last five partners you had?” she asked.
Nartan locked gazes with her. “Now you’re back to being a bitch to get me to shove off.”
“Maybe I am a bitch.”
He studied her for a long moment. “You aren’t. I know my share of them.”
She drew in a deep breath. “My point exactly. But just in case you don’t get it, I’m not interested in joining your list of friends with benefits. I know what it’s like to be used and I won’t be doing it to someone else. Even if you’re willing.”
Surprise flashed through him, and it unleashed a wave of need that shocked him with its intensity.
“Tell me you don’t want to touch me and I’ll walk away.”
She’d crossed her arms over her chest. She gripped her own bicep, her fingertips pressing into the skin. There was a flash of guilt in her eyes, a hint of fear over being unmasked, which sent a jolt of excitement through him.
“I want the same thing.”
“Yeah, I got that message when you pinched my butt,” she responded in a dry tone.
“I cupped it.” He withdrew his hand from his pocket and mimicked a little pat.
Her face turned scarlet.
But the tip of her tongue appeared and swept across her lower lip. He stepped toward her and had to force himself to stop when her expression become guarded.
“Touch me, Celeste.”
She blinked. “Excuse me?”
He crooked his finger, beckoning her forward. “Come here and finish what we started last night…” He laid his hands on his chest for a moment. “Do what you felt the impulse to do, and don’t let that prick keep you bottled up.”
“I told you, I’m not interested in doing anything about what I feel for you.” She shook her head. “Why would I? Your ideas are clearly different than mine when it comes to relationships. I’m a complication you don’t want any more than I want to be disappointed by you.”

“And still, I followed you out here.” Determination edged his words.
“All that proves is that you like getting what you want,” Celeste countered, doing her best to recall exactly why using him was something she wanted to avoid.
“You think I have to follow you to get it?” It wasn’t really the tone of his voice, just the way his features sharpened with confidence. He knew his effect on women and enjoyed reaping the benefits.
“Thanks for confirming what I thought about you the first time we met.”
She went to step past him, but he moved into her path. “And what was that?”
“That you are very successful and accustomed to being in control.” She sighed and held up her hand when he started to speak. “It’s nothing personal. I just don’t go for the controlling type.”
His eyes had narrowed, but his lips lifted just a bit at the corners. “The hell you don’t. That little puppy dog that tried his hand at impressing you on the dance floor didn’t have a prayer, because you need someone who is going to impress you before you yield.”
“You sound like a cave man.”
He reached out and clasped her nape, curling his hand around the slender column. He gave her just a taste of his strength, enough to unleash a flood of heat before releasing her.
He chuckled softly when she averted her gaze to keep him from seeing what she felt. “What’s wrong? Don’t know what to do when I remove the opportunity for you to divert your attention away from how I affect you?”
Exactly.
The thought scrapped her pride, leaving her smarting as she was forced to admit there was a lot of truth in his accusation.
“Nartan, this is just going to get messy.”
“You don’t trust a confident man, but there is no way you’d surrender to one who wasn’t confident.” His voice hardened. “Your ex is succeeding in getting you to build your own prison.”
Was that true?
She hated the fact that it might be.
He reached out again. Doing it slowly, testing her nerve. She felt the distance between them closing, everything slowing down as she became immersed in the sharp sensation of anticipation.
But she didn’t pull back. She locked gazes with him.   “You might be right.”
“And you don’t like that?”
“No.”   She stepped closer to him.   “Let’s see if it was moon madness last night.”
All of her senses were heightened, her skin ultra-sensitive when he brushed the surface of her cheek with his fingertips. She shivered, her eyes slipping closed as she savored the connection between their skin.
For just a moment, time froze and she allowed herself to savor the contact. Oh yes, she had forgotten how good it felt to be touched.
Decadent…
But she opened her eyes when she realized she’d never enjoyed a man’s touch as much. This was more intense and far more likely to explode.
“You’re fire.” She shook her head, intending to sever the connection between their gazes, but he slid his hand into her hair, rubbing across her scalp before he closed the distance between them and tightened his fist in her hair.
“I could make the same accusation.” His eyes glittered with need.   “I haven’t stopped thinking about kissing you again.”
She gasped, the sight of him on the edge driving her closer to it herself. He leaned down and captured the sound with his lips.
It wasn’t a hard kiss.
She could have pulled away from a hard, possessive claiming of her lips.
Nartan started with a soft press that stole her breath. It might have been slow, but he still pressed his mouth against hers with all the solid confidence she’d accused him of having. It was there in the way he slid his lips across hers. Once, twice, and then a third time before he teased her lower lip with a soft lick.
Everything except the connection between them ceased to register. She reached for him, smoothing her hands down the cotton of his shirt. She dipped her fingers beneath the blue tie, determined to get closer to his skin.
She could smell him. That musky scent that turned her on as much as the way he stroked her tongue with his. It was masterful, arrogant, but excitement tore through her like lightening and left a burning trail behind.
She twisted toward him, straining upwards so she might kiss him. The hold on her nape changed, tightening as he growled. He curled his other arm around her, binding her against his body as she reached for his hair and pulled his head tighter against her own.
The kiss became demanding and hard. He pulled her right off her feet and pressed her up against the wall of the building. He reached down, sliding his hand across the curve of one side of her bottom and further down to her thigh. Heat roared through her, her heart pounding as her clit began to ache. The need to press against him was so intense, she never protested when he pulled her thigh up to allow him to press against her mound.
He hissed, his fingers slipping beneath the hem of her skirt and discovering one strap from her garter belt was the only thing to keep his hand off her bare skin. She shivered, his skin connecting with hers like a clap of thunder. She jerked her head back, unbearably conscious of how exposed she was. Only a thin triangle of silk covered her sex, just inches from his fingers. She was on edge, completely exposed. Frantic with the need for more. More of him.

attempts to consolidate her rule, characters from the past threaten to destroy her and the love she shares with Jonas Starling, a 300-year old dark angel. When she discovers she has been the recipient of a miracle, suddenly their whole immortal lives are changed forever. Will they survive the coming war or get snagged in the power struggle over not only the underworld, but the human world as well?
I definitely recommend reading this series in order.  There are references to past events and characters that may leave you just at tad lost at first if you don't.  However, I have not read the previous books and still really enjoyed this part of the story.

Audray and Jonas are an interesting couple.  And their story was a very exciting one.  There is also a side couple with a few surprises to throw your way and they play an important part in the final battle of the book.  My only complaint about this couple is that they didn't seem to really fit in at first.  I didn't understand why they were there until about half way through.  I would have liked to understand that just a little sooner.

Jonas and Audrey were great together.  They really had a special connection - and that connection helped save them several times.  As a new power in the Underworld is fighting for control, Audrey is caught up in the action.  I liked that she could take care of herself most of the time - but Jonas still had to come to the rescue once in awhile.  Love me a girl that can hold her own.

The last half of the book is when things really get very exciting.  I loved the tactics on both sides and their fight was definitely a major turning point that pushed Audrey and Jonas into the right direction to have such an amazing ending.

Cover Inspirations: The World in Shadows Series by Bridget Blackwood

I'm a World in Shadows junkie so I was super excited when author Bridget Blackwood agreed to participate in our feature!!  She took the task head on and had broken down why she selected each cover in the series so far.

Cover Inspiration by Bridget Blackwood
When I’m preparing for a new book the cover is the first order of business. I like them to reflect the scenes and characters in the story. Finding cover models to match how I see the hero/heroine is important. A bearded hero with no bearded cover model is all wrong. A personal pet peeve of mine is when the cover model is nothing like the way the characters are described. Sometimes you can’t get around it but I try really hard to the point of making story changes. After searching for four months I gave up on the perfect Rachel/Bastien couple combo for my first book, Rising Shadows. The story was already written and without costing me money there was no way to fix the discrepancies. Some minor features don’t match up and it bugs me to this day. This is why I always figure out covers first now. LOL!

Rising Shadows
Cover Artist: The Killion Group
Purchase: Amazon

I already mentioned the couple for Rising Shadows wasn’t my ideal but they do make a striking pair visually. The wolf is my favorite because it is how the hero looks when he shifts his form. Bastien is a white wolf to symbolize his inherent goodness which drives him to protect others. The forest as the background is important as it goes with the animal nature of the hero but also because of how the light comes through the trees casting shadows. The whole series revolves around characters coming out of hiding and into the light of day.

Winter's Kiss
Cover Artist: The Book Cover Machine

Winter’s Kiss is a novella. It continues the subplot for the entire series and ties up loose threads regarding two characters from Rising Shadows. I stumbled upon this cover on a website featuring premade covers by a whole range of artists. It is absolutely perfect. The cover correlates perfectly to a dream sequence near the very beginning. A cold, wintery landscape but the heroine wears a sleeveless dress. Obviously you’d freeze to death if it weren’t a dream. Sometimes you can’t tell a dream is a dream until you examine the small things. The colors on her dress are icy blues and the purples near the bottom half of the color are reminiscent of how I described the heroine’s hair in Rising Shadows. It’s beautiful and ethereal. One of my favorites.

A Scarlet Fury
Cover Artist: Indie-Spired Design
Purchase: Amazon

Incredibly emotional to write and I’ve been told just as emotional to read. Heavy subjects are covered such as recovering from sexual assault and finding the strength to build your life again after it crumbles. The hero and heroine are best friends who become something more in the wake of tragedy. While they’re a passionate couple I wanted to express their tenderness on the cover. Cleary is Mads’ safe place and Mads soothes Cleary. The look of relaxed contentment on her face means so much more after you’ve read the book. Cleary’s holding her close but gently because he knows she couldn’t handle it if he pulled her tight. The lion eyes at the bottom are Cleary, always watching over his Mads. Kelly, the artist, picked the cityscape background which I like better than the one I chose. (The lighting in my choice wasn’t working. LOL) The city could be a depiction of where they live but to me it’s a reflection of all the people who rallied behind Mads. Still have the shadowy/smoky thing going on, so neat.

Belong to the Night (Releasing March 3, 2015)

The heroine Elisavet is a human who becomes a vampire; the forest relates to the scene in which this happens. Elisavet looks younger than she is and has dark features with wildly thick hair. Manias, the hero, is off in the distance protecting her from afar. He does that a lot. LOL. I wanted them together but not actually touching. The phrase “close but not close enough” applies well to their relationship. Hey, there are those shadows again :0)

Even by vampire standards, Reaper is a loner, and his current mission to destroy a
gang of rogue bloodsuckers is definitely a one-vamp job. Then fate takes a hand, and before he knows it, he's surrounded by a ragtag crew of misfit helpers: the newbie, the princess, the shape-shifter and the human healer.

Seth is new to immortality, but he's sharp and strong and he'll risk anything for the rogues' strange female captive, a secretive creature he doesn't understand but feels compelled to save.

Vixen is confused by the emotions that swirl through her at the sight of her impulsive hero. She only hopes the brutal Gregor and his bloodthirsty renegades will leave her alive long enough to explore them.

Or will Reaper himself be the one to destroy them all?
We get to meet a whole new batch of characters in this one - so if you're looking to jump in at the middle - this is the place to do it. Reaper is an assassin - a very good one.  He's been hired to take out a dangerous rogue vampire.  But this rogue is more that what we think at first - he's being a little too smart and seems to have a bigger plan.

Our main couple, Seth and Vixen, are two newly turned vampires.  But Vixen is also something more.  She's a really awesome character and has a whole bunch of surprises up her sleeve.  I thought at first I wouldn't like this addition to the lore of Wings in the Night, but as I got to know more about her history and what she really was - I ended up really enjoying it.

Seth, well, he was a bit of a jerk a few times.  But I still loved him because I knew he wasn't trying to be one, he just wasn't reacting well to the situations around him.  Deep down he was such a sweetheart and you can't help but love him.  There is quite a bit of excitement in this book and lots of pieces to a new puzzle are laid out.  I think the next segment of this world's story is going to be very interesting.

An unseemly proposal...

Juliet Winters has come up with a wonderfully devious plan to avoid marrying her vile cur of a cousin. First, she'll propose marriage to her handsome, reclusive neighbor, Lord Colwyn. Then, once she has both name and financial support, she'll be able to pursue her true (if rather unladylike) passion -- breeding dogs. But when Lord Colwyn rejects her proposal... Juliet must take matters into her own hands.

The last thing Benjamin Colwyn expected was for the spirited Juliet to blackmail him into marriage -- especially not by kidnapping his beloved canine companion. Yet despite his yearning for peace and isolation, he finds himself wanting to help her, if only to protect her from a marriage to a disreputable scoundrel. He certainly doesn't expect the woman who pilfered his dog to steal his heart, as well...
I really liked Juliet from the beginning.  I love when a historical heroine takes charge and steps outside their traditional role - it's what makes it exciting.  When she not only insists on marrying Benjamin, but kidnaps his best friend (even if it's just a dog) to make sure he plays along, I was all for her little scheme.  I was even more for it once I met her alternative <shudder>.

Where the book lost me a little was Benjamin himself.  I never really grew to like him.  He was overly concerned about his dog and while I understand why he would be upset with Juliet - he really treated her like crap.  He does defend her against others that would harm her, but he isn't all that great himself most of time.

I really enjoyed his sister and her husband - they were a bit of comic relief for the two very serious main characters.  I just really wanted a guy I could fall in love with.

A Princess for the Playboy

The Princess of Surhaadi is desperate to escape a life lived in the shadows of her family's past. One misguided night of rebellion later and Leila's world comes crashing down thanks to two little blue lines on the pregnancy test!

When James Chatsfield—world-renowned bad boy and soon-to-be father —hears the shocking news, he knows he needs to act, and fast! He'll propose to protect his heir, but will Leila ever believe he sees her as more than just the mother of his child?

Welcome to The Chatsfield, New York!
This series is such a decadent read for me.  It's full of glamour and riches and all sorts of fanciness.  We briefly heard about Leila's "problems" in the previous book and now we get to see them first hand.  Leila is a Princess, one used to ordering servants about and having everything taken care of for her.  So when she runs away to America, she's in for some serious culture shock.

I loved her culture shock.  So many little things that we, as Americans, just go about doing because we always have - well, when seen from an outside point of view - don't seem so natural and obvious.  In some ways, Leila was a breathe of fresh air.

James certainly sees her this way, at first.  Then he has to find out via newspaper that he's going to be a father.  Well, let's just say that all hell breaks loose in his life.  Their's is far from a traditional romance in any sense, but that's what makes it so special.  They not only have to get to know each other, but each other's culture and ways of doing things.  I was so excited for both of them every time they made a small step in the right direction.
