All he wanted was to get the job done and somehow to endure those long months playing nanny to a spoiled little rich girl. Without strangling her with his bare hands in the process. Well, it is going to be much easier said than done.
All she wanted was to escape the past and live like any other nineteen-year-old girl. Her plan definitely didn’t include the arrogant, tattooed savage, with his awful mohawk hair and lack of social graces, whose only mission was to stick real close and mess up her life.
But, people aren’t always what they seem to be, are they?

Nash was bound to Sienna completely – by a blood connection and a deep desire. An Enforcer for the Supranormal community, he was obligated to protect his sexy assignment, despite her family devastating his world.

After being betrayed, Sienna falls into the arms of her surly protector; a demon with a secret of his own. But can she face her destiny knowing she's more dangerous than those Nash was protecting her from?
This was a fun and quick paranormal romance, with a good dose of excitement and suspense. An enemies to lovers story, I enjoyed the way the backstory was introduced along the way at just the right time to fill in the holes as needed.

Demons, angels, vampires (sort of), and who knows how many other paranormal types just not met yet. The creatures were all a bit different than the traditional, which kept things interesting and fun.

But, it was a bit rushed. As a novella, I didn't get the chance to feel the suspense build up like I wanted to and things resolved very quickly at the end.

A COWBOY FOR CHRISTMAS

With two kids and an active life, widow Faith Dustin only wants peace and quiet for Christmas. But her snowy Pine Gulch ranch is nothing but chaotic. All that keeps Faith going is her helpful neighbor, cowboy Chase Brannon. He's always been "good ol' Chase," her faithful friend. Until he kisses her under the mistletoe…

Years ago Chase blew his chance with the woman he's loved since childhood. Now he's determined to step out of the friend zone…and into the role of husband. But the scared and stubborn Faith won't let herself fall. With Christmas just days away, Chase will need all the magic of the season—and the help of her two matchmaking children—to unwrap a second chance at love.
The Holiday Gift was a sweet second chance, friends to lovers style romance. There wasn't anything overly dramatic or exciting, it was just a really solid and down to earth story. Faith is determined to prove that she can make it on her own after her husband's death a couple years ago. She's raising her kids and running the ranch, and things seem to be perfect.

Then, her best friend has to go and ruin everything by asking her out on a date. Like a real date. She's not sure if she's ready for that, and she's definitely not ready to risk her friendship with Chase if things don't work out. But Chase has other ideas, he doesn't want to miss this second chance to be with the girl he's loved since they were young.

A fun and beautiful romance. I loved the connection that Chase and Faith had already built through the years and the community that surrounded them. I just had a hard time finding something that stood out and make this one something special.

Code Name: Fox / Mind Games by A.L. Kessler and Mia Bishop ~ Cover Reveal and Character Interviews

Mind Games
Novella Set One of

The Syndicate

Series Blurb:

Paranormal creatures have stepped into the light of the human world and with them comes a dark secret. The Syndicate Council controls the mafia families and all organized crime, but there is something worse on the horizon.

The Agency was put in place to police the paranormal mafia for the protection of mankind in a way that human law enforcement isn’t able to. Their missions revolve creating a safe world for both humans and paranormal beings to coexist peacefully, but behind the curtain a more sinister plan is put into place by an ancient radical leader determined to regain his lost power.

Who can stop a demigod hell bent on creating a new empire and crushing those he feels are beneath him?

The paranormal mafia has the answer: The Syndicate.

Despite the façade of crime and corruption, the Syndicate uses the mafia to keep balance in a brutal world torn apart by crime, hatred, segregation, and corruption. Their goal: To take down The Agency at all costs.

Code Name: Fox
Character Interview with Zeek

Have you ever been tempted to switch sides and work with the Agency?

I’ve thought about it. Before, it was all about money and motivation. I gave up my land and gold for a chance at immortality. The agency once offered to give me back what I lost in gold, plus inflation. It was tempting until I learned who was behind it all.

Do you mind telling us how old you are?

Not old enough to have been there for the feud between the twins, but old enough to see the ancient ways crumble and give way to a more modern society.

What made you trust Skye?

Something that would normally get an agent or a Syndicate member killed…her naivety. It’d been a long time since I’ve seen someone act on their willingness to help others.

Do you prefer life with the paranormal creatures being out in the open or did you like things better when you all were in hiding?

When we were hiding we could get away with a lot more. Now that we’re out in the open, it’s harder to handle things our way. It also pathed the way for old enemies to surface and create things, such as the Agency.

Will your empire within the Syndicate expand to take on new territories or are you happy with the power you have now?

I’m always expanding my…territories. The more drug lands I can take over and control the better. The more that humans are pushed out of the drug trafficking game, the safer everyone will be. I’ll be holding interviews and interrogations soon for more dealers to work under me and run new areas.

Blurb:
Shifter, Skye Lannister, takes a job at the Agency in hopes to help her kind, but the Agency isn’t what it seems. Caught by the vampire Syndicate council member, Zeek, Skye starts to question what she was thinking taking the job. When Zeek urges her to look deeper into the Agency, Skye learns that the company is hiding dark secrets and menacing plans.

Zeek Fuchs, Syndicate Council member, vampire, drug lord, and overall badass wasn’t prepared to protect the shifter he caught hacking his systems. The naïve woman took the job on a whim and had no idea she was carrying out dangerous orders. When assassins start attacking, things heat up as the two fight to keep her alive.

Mind Games
Character Interview with Liam

Youre on the mafia side of this battle, why? Why not Agency?

For me, it all boils down to loyalty. I am loyal to my pack, I’m loyal to my kind. The Agency isn’t looking out for our best interests, they are a political tool trying to dominate everyone and everything. And you know what they say about absolute power, right?

What drew you to Reagan?

As cliche as it might sound, I was drawn to her. There was something there, in her aura that I could sense and I knew I had to protect her.

What is your favorite way to dispose of a dead agent?

Any way that leaves no trace. I’m not a fan of cement shoes and tossing them in the river, bodies always have a way of popping back up. I’d say if you’re gonna do the job, do it right. Dissolve the body, bones and all. Or set the corpse on fire and grind down everything that remains into dust.

What does it feel like to shift?

I imagine it must feel similar to an electrical shock. It’s painful, disorienting, more than a bit stressful when you are first getting the hang of it, but over time you grow accustomed to it, now I’d equate it to a very strong electrical pulse. The pain has faded for me over the years.

What do you drink after a long day?

Glendalough 13-Year Single Malt Irish Whiskey, neat, with a water back; unless it’s been a stressful day and then you’d just better hit me with the whole bottle and save the water for the morning.

Blurb:
Agency or Syndicate? Most witches are freelance, but being a psychic witch makes Reagan Silas valuable to the Agency's Protection and Security Division which is home to the Psychic Interrogation Unit. Since the supernatural world made itself known to the humans a few short years ago, the Agency and their mission of helping control the supernatural while protecting the humans, has been her only purpose in life. Untrained in physical magic, Reagan's talents as a witch are only a benefit in the Mindscape of those she interrogates for the Agency.  Her world is upended when her interrogation of the Alpha of the O'Conner pack goes terribly wrong. When all fingers point to Reagan she is faced with a cold hard truth; she's alone in this world. Without the Agency what is she?

Liam O'Conner, alpha of his pack, never expected to find himself wanting to protect the woman who tried to use his dead wife against him in his own mind. But after he is injured during her interrogations he gets word of the Agency suspending Reagan, and he makes it his mission to stay close. The person responsible for his injuries during Reagan's interrogation is still on the loose and Liam knows it's only a matter of time before this other psychic takes him out. Reagan is his best chance at survival and salvation. Can he make her see what the Agency is really up to? Or will she never get over her past trauma with werewolves to trust him?

In Caldwell, New York, war rages between vampires and their slayers. There exists a secret band of brothers—six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Now the cold heart of a cunning predator will be warmed against its will...

Ruthless and brilliant, Vishous, son of the Bloodletter, possesses a destructive curse and a frightening ability to see the future. As a pretrans growing up in his father's war camp he was tormented and abused. As a member of the Brotherhood, he has no interest in love or emotion, only the battle with the Lessening Society. But when a mortal injury puts him in the care of human surgeon, Dr. Jane Whitcomb compels him to reveal his inner pain and taste true pleasure for the first time—until a destiny he didn't choose takes him into a future that cannot include her...
I had a hard time buying some of this one. Vishous is quite a cold hearted vampire. His history was a rough one, and I did enjoy seeing how it shaped him and his personality. A lot more about him made sense after reading this book. I felt a little sorry for him to be honest.  Although I still don't quite understand how this odd relationship with Butch fits into the whole thing.

Vishous is feeling a little sorry for himself now that his bromance has found a mate of his own. He puts himself at risk needlessly and ends up in a human hospital - this is one of the worst things that can happen. Human doctors can quickly see the difference between vampire and human anatomy (and I found some of the differences to be fascinating).

Enter Dr. Jane Whitcomb. We get a ton of history about her - some of it was a bit confusing. I kept waiting for her sister to pop up again in the story and she never did. Maybe she does later? There were some pretty heavy hints dropped that I kept waiting for her to appear.

Jane quickly realizes Vishous is different than any patient she's ever seen before. And when she's kidnapped to keep watch over her patient after he's rescued the "I love her - but she's human - but I love her - but she's human" begins and never seems to end.

Well, eventually it does, and I think JR Ward wrote herself into a corner again. There are a few times now that she's really broken the rules of her own world again. I think this was my biggest pet peeve of the series so far. She finds a way to sort of make it work, but it's not quite within the rules either.

There are some pretty big reveals about some of the brotherhood, which I like. And I enjoy seeing all them in each story. Revisiting past favorites is always fun - but I wish the women had a stronger appearance as well.

Logan
Everyone’s had a summer crush. One that’s etched into your memories so hard that it leaves an indelible mark, like a scar on your heart. For me, that crush is my first love, Carver Edwards. I met him at fifteen at summer camp, and for three perfect summers, he was mine. Until the blazing heat of the summer sun faded and reality crashed in. Carver went off to college, leaving me trapped in my small farming town, with no way of reaching him and a problem I needed solving.
Carver
As the senior captain of my college basketball team, all I’ve been focused on the past four years has been playing, school, getting drafted in the NBA, and steering clear of relationships. I didn’t want them. I had nothing to give another girl. I’d given it already. So, I built my rep as a player, and honed my natural ability to charm the pants off girls. It’s what I did. Who I was. Who I am.
Until March, when a lay-up during a tournament landed me in an emergency room, under the care of Logan Shaw – my first love. Of all the people I could run into, why did it have to be her? Not only did my face get split wide open, but so did the locks that held the pain I’d attempted to bury for so many years.
Now that she’s back in my life, we must face the truth and the consequences of our actions – even if it could destroy us. We must uncover the truths that have kept us shackled from moving forward. That could possibly set us free.
