Guest paranormal romance author Mary Abshire

Please welcome Mary Abshire!

Hello Everyone! Thanks for stopping by and reading my blog post.

To bite or not to bite?

I love vampires. Always have. They are sexy most of the time, strong, mysterious, powerful, and . . . I'm sure you have your own version. And what about those fangs? Yes, those are appealing to. The fangs make the vampire dangerous. I like dangerous. Then I'm thinking, do I want to be bitten with those fangs? It has to hurt—two sharp razors piercing the skin. Why would anyone want a vampire to bite them?

Because it's a turn on, right? Gets the carnal juices flowing. The big, bad vamp holds you in his strong arms, gently bites into your neck, and tenderly sucks on your blood. Bite me vamp man!

Ok, so when writing a romance book with a vampire, the vamp has to bite. It's a given. The question changes to how much biting and where? Do I have your attention? (smile)

In my first Soul Catcher novel, Claiming the Evil Dead, I kept it somewhat clean with not too much biting. When I started writing the next novel, Catching an Evil Tail, I knew I had to add more. Biting on the neck was no longer enough. I'm not going to tell you how much or where he bites. I wouldn't want to spoil any of the book. (smile) As I keep writing in the series, I wonder if biting gets old. I want the emotion and relationship between the characters to remain strong and fresh. I hope I am meeting that goal.

As a reader, do you get tired of reading about the bites or does it completely not matter because you get involved with the characters and what's going on between them? And for fun, would you want a vamp to bite you if you met one?

  2. Good post. As a reader I don't care how much biting is done. Sometimes simpler is better. I get wrapped in the characters and the emotion between them. When that happens everything that happens between them is sexy.

  3. Sounds like some great books. Can't wait to read them. Biting is apart of the appeal of paranormal romance and as long as there is emotion behind it, it's just one more thing I like about the genre!

  4. Biting is not a bother to me. Some of the biting, depending on what the characters are doing at the moment & location of the bite can be very sexy. Other times it can be just a vamp seeking a meal.

  6. I never get tired of biting; it's hot, and senual. Just think about when you're mate is nibbling or biting you...does it ever get boring or dull? Not for me.
I have not had the opportunity to read your book yet...but you damn well rest assure that I will be...it sounds soooo good.

  7. I want to thank everyone for stopping by and commenting. I love vampire bites that have some kind of emotion behind them or the bite is for a reason other than food. I don't think I could write about a vampire biting simply for a meal. Just not my style. Then again, if the vamp was describing the pleasure from biting... Yeah, I could do that. Hmm...

  8. I think there's something naturally carnal about a vampire sucking blood. The act of fangs piercing the flesh can be seen as a metaphor for sex itself.

I don't get tired of reading about vampire biting, not as long as the scene is an emotional (or even just a titillating) one. :-)

  10. Mary:

Waiting for the bite to happen is the most sweet torture. I love when the bite happens somewhere unexpected as I find the neck to be done to death. The emotion that goes into the bite is very sexy. Would I want a vamp to bite me, what do you think??? :)

  12. Vixhen, I agree with you one hundred percent. It is the anticipation that makes biting pleasurable. Thinking about it is just as torturous as the real thing. LOL

  13. Oh, yes. I definitely like biting. LoL The smexy kind that is, and if ever given the choice I'd say hell yeah! And as long as I'm connecting with the characters in the book the more the better.
