Cover Reveal with Ann Mayburn + giveaway

Join us in welcoming multi-genre author Ann Mayburn once again to BBPR as she reveals the cover for her upcoming sequel to Daughter of Lust, Princess of Lust

Cover Lover

It’s no great secret that I’m an absolute cover whore. I love getting new covers for my books, it’s one of my favorite things about being an author. I also print out every one of my covers and frame it to hang around my computer desk for ‘finish the damn book so you can get a pretty cover’ inspiration. After all of the blood, sweat, and lack of sleep that goes into writing a book, I adore the moment that my book gets a ‘face’ to show to the rest of the world.

It’s also no great secret that I drive my cover artists batshit crazy. ;) I’m a demanding, nit picky, pain in the ass who has been known to stress out about the smallest details, like the shadow of a blade of grass on a guys stomach that makes it look like he has a weird curvy shadow from an erection. Ok, maybe it didn’t look like that to anyone else, but it did to me.

One of my publisher’s, Decadent Publishing, recently gave me the opportunity to do the cover for my short story collection, Prides of the Moon. I adore art and have always wished I could draw free hand, but the best thing I can do is stick figure theater. Fortunately, with today’s art programs anyone who has the desire, drive, and a bit of natural talent can teach themselves the techniques used for making digital art. Decadent saw my work on my webpage, trading cards, etc. and had enough confidence in me to know if I didn’t feel like I could do the cover justice, I’d throw in the towel and call in a professional cover artist.

Guest Author Jaye Frances + giveaway

Thank you, WildAboutBones, for hosting me on Bitten By Paranormal Romance today. I really appreciate the opportunity to talk about The Kure, and to let your readers know about my on-going “Resolve To Read” promotion through Amazon.

Part of the challenge of writing this series was drawing on historical references to accurately establish not only the setting, but also the dark and mystical practices that were very much a part of the deep south during the time period of the story.

We're Smitten with Em Petrova and a giveaway

Crash into Me

By Em Petrova

Stimulating moments and music seem to go hand-in-hand. I think we’ve all heard that one song on the radio that sends us back in time to a school dance, when we swayed in the arms of a boy we crushed on. ( If I tell you mine, it will give away my age.) Or we hear a song we danced to at our weddings and the warmth of the day spreads through us.

For me, as an erotic romance writer, I also use songs as my muse. One of my FAVORITE songs to write sex scenes to is Crash into Me by Dave Matthews Band.

Okay, so disregard the video elements because no one really understands videos anyway, right? But listen to those lyrics—it just screams tortured hero, doesn’t it? A man who longs for a woman so much he can think of little else. He sleeps, eats, dreams, and breathes her.

Also, the song has the perfect rhythm to make love to—hips bumping, lips meeting, clothes peeling off, skin caressed… You can see how this song inspires a love scene every time!

What are your favorite love songs? I’d love to hear your choices! And please read on for a special excerpt from my latest release Outlaws of Love.

Guest Author Ann Mayburn + Giveaways

Please welcome guest author Ann Mayburn

What Can Happen in Just One Night?

Think back to best date you ever went on, when everything seemed magical and you never wanted the evening to end. I know the memory of my perfect date night still brings chills and makes me smile all these years later, and I bet it does the same for you. There is nothing quite like that moment when you realize that you’re in love and the person you’re with makes you truly, deeply happy.

That is why I enjoy writing 1 Night Stand short stories for Decadent Publishing. Each book is about that one perfect night, but in this case the date is a blind date arranged by the extraordinary matchmaker Madame Eve. I love the challenge of writing a good story that can only last that one night and must end the next day. If I do a good job with it, my readers are left knowing that despite only having a glimpse of one night into the couples lives, they know that these two (or three) were meant to be together.Decadent1NightStand.blogspot.com

Of course the sexual attraction is off the charts, but I try to make each date about more than that. I try to capture that intangible chemistry between two people that joins them together not just at a physical level, but at a soul deep one. This is especially true in my ‘Prides of the Moon’ series.

Based on a fantastic world filled with shape shifters and magic blended with the modern day world I tell the story of a different couple with each book, but the stories overlap into a larger story arch. That allows me to fulfill the requirement of just one night, while giving my readers a much longer storyline to follow. Each story can be read and enjoyed on its own, but you’ll get so much more out of the series if you read them all.

My ‘Prides of the Moon’ series has really allowed me to explore all types of sexuality. Each pride is made up of an Alpha male and female along with their beta or betas. Bi-sexuality is common and not seen as something odd or different in my world. My characters don’t face any prejudice for loving who they love, something I wish happened in the real world. This leads to some interesting combinations and pairings of Alphas and betas.

An essential part of the world of the werepumas is bonding. When an Alpha and beta bond their souls connect so that they can feel each others' emotions and while making love bonded partners of the same sex can actually feel what their mate is feeling. Trust me, it’s as hot as it sounds. ;)

In the first book of the series, ‘Amber Moon’, I tell the story of Nick and Madeline Turea who are searching for the perfect beta female to complete their pride. As you read the story you’ll realize why there is no room for jealousy and mistrust in the relationship. Instead their trust in each other allows them the kind of trust that is the foundation for any relationship, conventional or otherwise.

I hope you enjoy my ‘Prides of the Moon’ series and I’d encourage you to take a peek at other books in the 1 Night Stand series from Decadent Publishing. With over twenty authors and counting contributing to the series you get a fantastic variety of stories. For me they’re like hot chocolate chip cookies right out of the oven, I can’t resist them. ;)

So tell me gentle reader, what was your perfect date?

Interview and Giveaway with Author Lisa Kessler

Please join me, WildAboutBones , in welcoming author Lisa Kessler as we talk about her book Night Walker (The Night Series #1) and other goodies.

Author Bio:
Lisa Kessler is an avid reader and writer of dark fiction. Her short stories have been published in print anthologies and magazines, and her vampire story, Immortal Beloved, was a finalist for a Bram Stoker award.

Lisa recently signed a 4 book deal with Entangled Publishing to release her Night Series. The first book, Night Walker, was released August 2nd.

When she's not writing, Lisa is a professional vocalist, performing with the San Diego Opera as well as other musical theater companies in San Diego. You can learn more at http://Lisa-Kessler.com

Lisa lives in southern California with her incredibly fun husband and two amazing kids.

Would you tell us a little about yourself?
I’ve been publishing short stories for ten years and just had my first novel released in August. When I’m not writing, I also sing professionally and I’m a total Disney-a-holic.

Do you have a process or any special rituals in your writing routine?
I need the right “mood” music when I write. I usually make a playlist for the book before I start writing it. I also chew gum. Lots of gum! LOL It helps me focus while I’m writing, but it’s not pretty when all the gum wrappers start to encroach on my keyboard! ☺

You write several different genres. Which is your favorite genre to write and why?
That’s a tough question! I love short stories because they’re so powerful and character driven. You can pack a big punch in only a few words, but I also love writing paranormal romance because I enjoy watching two characters come together and learn to trust one another in order to face their foes. So I guess it’s safe to say I don’t really have a favorite… LOL

How did you come up with the idea for Night Walker and this new series?
I wanted to write a vampire novel, but I wanted to set it in San Diego and I wanted my vampire to be from the Americas not from Europe. I started researching San Diego, and also the oldest civilization in the Americans, the Mayans. The more I read, the more the story started to come alive in my head.

Tell us one quirky thing about Night Walker’s Calisto? Love the name by the way.
My favorite Calisto quirk, besides his thick Spanish accent, is the way he usually answers your questions with another question. It drives Kate crazy in the book, but it really endeared him to me as I wrote it… ☺ And I’m glad you like his name! When I was trying to come up with a Spanish name that also sounded sexy and old fashioned, I poured through Spanish baby name sites, saying the names out loud, and once I found Calisto I knew that was it.

There are several intriguing characters in Night Walker. Can you tell us a little bit about what’s next for this series? Who, from the book, might get the lead in upcoming books?
I can tell you that Lukas is the lead in Book 2, Night Demon. Calisto mentions him in Night Walker and he has a brief appearance in one of the flashbacks. He’s still alive and has spent his eternity researching the origins of the Night Walkers. Also Edie and Lori are still around too. You’ll see them more in Book 3, Night Child.

Out of the books and short stories you’ve written so far, do you have a favorite hero or heroine? If so, who and why.
Ack! That’s like picking your favorite child! LOL I can say that Calisto will always hold a special place in my heart because Night Walker really was the “book of my heart” and he helped me reach my dream of publication. I can also say that Muriah, the heroine in Night Child is one of my favorite female characters I’ve ever written. She’s a little rebel, but not snarky, and independent, but not cold. I really have fun writing her!

There is also a character from one of my short stories that I will always love. His name is Sheelak. He’s a demon who has a guilty pleasure. He loves Christmas! ☺ I’m publishing a short story anthology later this year, and Sheelak’s story is definitely a shining star…

Who are some of your favorite authors and what are some of your favorite books? And which has made the biggest impact on your writing career?
I love Anne Rice, Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Kelley Armstrong, Jeri Smith-Ready, and the list goes on and on. I’m not sure which has made the biggest impact on my writing, but Kelley Armstrong definitely made a huge difference in my publishing path because she encouraged me to join RWA and network. I would probably still be searching for a publisher if she hadn’t nudged me toward RWA.

Do you have a hobby for when you aren’t writing or something to help you unwind and relax, if so, what?
Singing definitely relaxes me, but my favorite thing to unwind is to visit Disneyland. It’s such a wonderful escape for me to walk through those gates! Love it!

What is/are your favorite type(s) of paranormal character(s) and why?
Immortals are my favorite because I really enjoy being able to twist history into my stories. Plus someone who has experienced lifetimes on earth usually has much deeper scars than the rest of us. Fun to write about! ☺

Is there something you’d like to tell your fans that no one ever asks you in an interview? Every time someone tells me on facebook, twitter, email, or my blog that my book touched them, they totally make my day!!! It’s scary to toss a book out into the world, but it’s worth every second of worry to know that you connected with the story. Thank you SO much for reading!

Can you tell us a little bit about what, if anything, you’re working on next, besides The Night series?
I’m almost finished editing my first anthology of short stories, Forgotten Treasures, and I’m also working on placing my werewolf series, so hopefully I’ll be able to share those books with you soon…

Some Fun Quick Questions:
Boxers, briefs or commando for your hero? Boxers
Dog, cat or ferret person? Dog
What’s your favorite fairy tale? Beauty and the Beast
What’s your favorite cartoon character? Evil Queen from Snow White
What are you currently reading? Moon Called by Patricia Briggs
What is your favorite movie and/or TV show? Rocky
What’s the first book you remember reading? First Book was probably Hop on Pop! I thought that was the funniest book ever! First novel - The Phantom Tollbooth
What character name have you been dying to use as a main character, but haven’t found the right fit for yet?
Logan, but he will get a book in my werewolf series. He sings lead in a rock band… Yum! ☺

TWICE TEMPTED

Serena Donovan left London six years ago, her heart broken and her reputation ruined by devilishly handsome Jonathan Dane. Now, with her family's future in peril, she reluctantly agrees to return to England and assume her late twin's identity. The price? Marry a man she doesn't love and spend the rest of her days living a lie.

Jonathan Dane, Earl of Stratford, has become an incorrigible rake, drinking, gambling-and trying to forget Serena Donovan. Yet the moment he's introduced to the prim and proper "Meg", he recognizes the sensual young woman who captured his heart. Haunted by his past mistakes, he refuses to lose Serena again. But convincing her to trust him is no easy task. Claiming his lost love means exposing the truth and destroying the life Serena has sacrificed everything to rebuild. With the future of all the Donovan’s at stake, and their undying passion capable of triggering yet another scandal, how much will Jonathan and Serena risk for a chance at true love?

Serena Donovan lands in London with her 19 year-old sister, Phoebe, in tow. Her mission, should she succeed: Convince the Town she is her twin sister “Meg”, marry the fine and upstanding Captain William Langley, and find a good match for her sister. HA - Easier said than done! Especially when Jonathan Dane enters the picture. (Which he does quite frequently and so eloquently; appearing just at the right moment between Serena/Meg and William.) She despises the lies and deceit that make up her life. Yet, she continually asks herself, “What would Meg do?” As it gets closer to the wedding day, Serena/Meg realizes she still loves Jonathan, and the passion they shared has never died. Now, Serena/Meg has to make the tough choices – for her sisters - and she doesn’t want to hurt William.

The secondary romance of Phoebe and Sebastian is predictable and falls short. Yet, it does lead to one of the tenderest moments between Jonathan and Serena/Meg.

I usually avoid twin-switching identity stories because I find the idea preposterous. Anyone who knows a twin intimately (not necessarily sexually) will know the person is a fraud. However, with CONFESSIONS OF AN IMPROPER BRIDE, there were a few things that made the story a bit plausible.
---Serena was absent from England for six years (during her years between 18 and 24).
---She was cajoled into portraying Meg for the good of the family. After all, her sisters needed to be well situated.
---Jonathan knew immediately, with his heart, body, and soul, upon seeing “Meg” that it was Serena. Even though he kept telling himself it was Meg.

The positive feature of this novel is Jonathan. He is a grand example of a hero redeemed. He loves Serena so vehemently that he will do anything and everything in his power not to lose her, or hurt her or her family again; but to eventually possess her as his own. Yes, he has a reputation as a rakehell of the highest order for the past six years, but all is not as it seems. When his one true love, Serena died, Jonathan died, and there was no reason left for him to continue. He drowned himself in every vice he could find trying to dull the pain. Until he realized - the pain would never go away.

Ultimately, I did not like the way this book ended. I view it as a HFN. However, I am certain fans and followers of Ms. Haymore will delight in the romance of Serena/Meg and Jonathan, as I did.

Interview and Giveaway with Author Sara Curran-Ross

Please join me, WildAboutBones, in welcoming author Sara Curran-Ross as we talk about her recent book Knight of Swords and other goodies.

Sara's Bio:

Sara Curran-Ross was born on April 1970 in the UK where she resides with her husband,
daughter and dog.

She was training to be a Legal Executive once upon a time until she went to university. In 2002 Sara graduated from university with a honours degree in History after giving birth to her daughter in 1999 in the middle of it all. Ever a glutton for punishment, she returned to university at the end of 2007 and in 2008 graduated with a History Masters Degree.

Sara has been writing since her teenage years and has now made it her full time focus. She enjoys writing thrillers, dark fantasy and historical romance novels and is always on the lookout for a new writing challenge.

What made you focus on the horror and thriller genres?

I don’t really focus on one particular genre. I tend to write in whatever form I see the story. Apart from writing thrillers and novels that have aspects of horror in them, I do write stories in other genres. I have recently submitted a contemporary romance novel to my publisher and I am in the middle of writing a historical romance. I am also creating a romantic urban fantasy spin off to KOS. I have many projects on the go and you can get a taste of them on my blog at http://www.saracurranross.blogspot.com.

How did you come up with the Taleians and their mythos?

I’m not sure really. I wanted to create vampires that were very different to the ones in Twilight and I wanted them to have a history peculiar to the UK. I did a lot research on the Druids and the Celts and from there I invented the myth of The Taleians.

What made you set the Knight of Swords in 1893 London?

I set the start of Knight of Swords in 1893 London because it was just after The Ripper murders. I wanted to convey how dangerous life was for women and what they were up against trying to find their place in a rigid society attempting to keep them down. The Suffragist movement was also gathering momentum. It all helped to emphasize Juliet’s struggle for independence and leadership as Queen in a male dominated vampire world.

However, the majority of the story takes place in snow covered countryside and on the dramatic coastline in Devon in the UK.

With The Devil You Know being such a sexy thriller, what factored in the decision to not make Knight of Swords be on the sexy side as well?

I wanted to create a very different vampire novel. I saw the story more about a woman’s struggle to find power and independence in a male dominated world of vampires and humans rather than a full blown romance.

The Devil You Know is a very dark sexy thriller and it isn’t for the faint of heart, nor those expecting a traditional romantic happy ever after ending. It is about knowing your own true identity and whether or not you really know the person in your relationship. I wanted to show that no matter how close you get to someone, they can surprise you. They may reveal a hidden side to them that you may have never wished to know existed.

The Devil You Know is being republished by Hellfire Publishing. It will be released on 15th July 2011. An excerpt and sample chapters may be found on my blog, http://www.saracurranross.blogspot.com.

Do you have a process in your writing routine?

My writing routine is a bit on the erratic side. When I first start a book it feels as though I am pushing something very heavy up hill and I tend to get distracted. Once I get going with the story I become nothing short of obsessive. LOL. I just want to keep going until I finish the book and not stop even to eat or sleep! :)

I try to write every day but lately I have been doing a lot of edits for books coming out so it has been difficult. Once everything calms down I will go back to finishing the writing projects I started live on my blog.

Out of the books you’ve written, do you have a favorite hero or heroine? If so, who and why.

They are difficult questions to answer. I would have to say that my favourite hero is Raoul Valoire. He appeared in the first book I ever wrote in my middle twenties, a contemporary romance called Sleeping Love.

Raoul is tall, dark, very handsome and French. He is also confident, determined, successful, rich and very in love with the heroine, Sabrina. My perfect type of hero. :)

The story starts when Sabrina travels to Raoul’s chateau in the Loire Valley in France to do some historical research on one of his ancestors. Sabrina lost her memory after waking up badly beaten in a London hospital seven years ago. When Sabrina visits Raoul, she is surprised to find him laying claim to her as his long lost wife who mysteriously disappeared one night from the chateau and his life seven years ago.

Shocked and confused Sabrina tries to leave the chateau but Raoul uses every means at his disposal to stop her going, virtually holding her prisoner. He insists she recover her memory and her love for him. He will not lose his wife again.

Sabrina uncovers some painful memories of what happened that night. Despite her suspicion that Raoul may have been the cause of her disappearance she falls helplessly in love with him all over again.

The whole book has a fairytale quality to it and I enjoyed writing it. I have just rewritten the novel and have submitted it to my publisher. Fingers crossed it will be published. :)

Can you tell us a little about what you’re working on next?

I really need to finish my regency historical romance, The Art of Retaliation. My heroine, Lady Pamela Dashwood is kidnapped by Lord Peter Ramsay. She is held as ransom to force her gambling brother to return Lord Ramsey’s mentally ill sister whom he ran away with and plans to marry.

Lord Ramsay is determined to prevent Pamela’s brother from duping his sister into marriage for her inheritance and stop him from isolating her in an asylum after they are joined. Unexpectedly, Lord Ramsay falls in love with his captive and he must find a way to fulfill his plan and make Pamela his own.

I also want to finish writing my two contemporary romantic spin off’s to KOS involving relationships with humans, vampires and werewolves. I need to finish the third and possibly the last installment to The Swords Series, The Hanged Man. I guarantee there will be a lovely happy ending to this series. :)

What are some of your favorite authors and some of your favorite books you’ve read?

I have many favourite books. I love all of Jane Austen’s work but in particular, Persuasion. Captain Frederick Wentworth has to be the best hero ever written. I actually cried when I read that and I can assure you that does not happen very often. :) I love The Scarlett Pimpernel by Baroness D’Orczy and Devils Cub by Gerogette Heyer.

I also like Christine Feehan’s novels about vampires (the Dark series) and I loved Twilight. However, I can’t say that I was engaged in reading the rest of the Twilight saga and I gave up before reading Breaking Dawn. I found them too long and drawn out.

Do you have a hobby besides writing?

I don’t have much time for hobbies these days and I should cultivate some more time for them. They are good for relaxation. I have been known to indulge in the odd spot of knitting. Mind you, I am only learning the art and I’m still stuck on knitting a scarf for winter. :)

I wouldn’t call this a hobby, but I have been attending regular psychic circle meetings and I am trying to progress as a medium.

Now for some fun questions:

What your favorite color?
Red. I love it’s bold brightness.

Do you have any pets?
I have a Welsh Springer Spaniel dog called Domino. He appears to have a fetish for leather! Every time I buy a pair of leather gloves in the winter he manages to steal one of them and bury them in the garden. I lost five gloves once. He digs them up in the summer and carries them around. If you try to take it from him he gets very possessive. LOL. Very strange!

What is your favorite movie and TV show?
I have two favourite movies. I love The Matirx and Inception. I love the way they stretch your mind and make you think. :)

Do you have a favorite food or place to eat?
I quite like Pizza Express. I am not sure if you have it in the US but it’s quick and very tasty. I regularly meet my girlfriends at one of their restaurants on a Friday to catch up with them and have a good chat. :)
