REVIEW:
Spectacular Step Back Into Time!
Lisa Beth Darling’s writing is phenomenal in this flash back
of time. The reader is whisked away into
a visionary insight of a past full of war, passion, deceit, and revenge.
Throughout the Of War Series the reader got small glimpses
of hushed hidden secrets into Alena’s history and as a curious reader I always
wanted to know more about her Fae heritage.
In this beautiful story the author scans back to the beginning of time
to the very first making of the fae existence.
I found this part of the story between Rhea (Kronos, the Titan Ruler’s
Wife) and Theron amazingly romantic and magical because of this scene:
“Theron made love to Rhea.
When their bodies joined it brought about such ecstasy that when their
combined climax washed upon the forest floor two Fae sprang up from the
ground.”
The magical love between the two is blissful but all great
things come to an end especially when you’re caught and hence forth come the
rage of hatred, evilness, and revenge that Kronos and the Gods hereafter cursed
upon all Fae.
The evilness is graphically explicit and will have you
cringing and in awe. The acts between the characters is stunning and the
connection between each one is so heartfelt and full of an emotion that bleeds
over into your own soul filling you with sorrow and causing you to hate the
Gods as well.
Ares of course is his same sexy and cunning self. I love him because he seems to be in his own
world loving the game of war as he kicks ass and takes name and of course has
his fill of spoils of war with lots of blazing sexual pleasure. Warning! The erotic
scenes are very graphic, so intense, and may be shocking to those of a weak
mind. But what I really like
about Ares is that he is not only rebellious in his actions but it is like he
lives to defy his father Zeus at every turn and constantly stays outcast from
Olympus.
I love how the author gives a different insight on how the
lives of the Gods are – totally not the awed and sweet gods someone would
expect – no the reader will see the savagery, spitefulness, and grossest sexual
side of their mannerisms.
Though the gods have their in humane ways so do the other
echelons like the difference between the Fae and the Fey. Yes there is a difference. First there is the Fae (Dark Kingdom Fae) that
live underground in the dark and are ruled by women where men are slaves and
brutally treated and this is where Shar Draiocht (Queen) comes to the forefront
in her escapade with Ares that produces Morrowind and sets the future of Alena
into motion..
.
Second there is the Fey who lives in the Golden Lands where
men and women are equal and they work side by side but what makes part of their
lives in humane is that they sacrifice every 20 years a few of their daughters
to the Celtic Horn God Cernunnos oblivious to the cruel and satanic acts of
evil he puts them through. But with the
insanity from Morrowind’s mind throws a wrench into the Horn Gods plans – Hence
comes forth Maven – a real sexually wild spirit but head strong, wise, and
fearless.
The story’s madness is breath taking but in between love is
in the air though short lived as Maven meets Norman MacLeod (Celt Warrior) and
produces Magdalena (Maggie / Alena).
Alena’s young life experiences is shocking between meeting Diana (Artemis)
and witnessing her death, meeting and living with her high society father and
rejection from his family, being prepared to be Cernunnos bride and having a
chasity belt put on; being rescued by the God of Love Eros but heinously tortured
by Apollo and finally ending up on the shoes of Ares Island.
In the end, as a reader I am speechless and amazed how glued
I was to this fast paced read. The story
is Totally Addicting to the drama and action that is mind blowing. I highly recommend this whole Of War Series
to all Paranormal Erotic Romance and Fantasy lovers. Excellent Read!
