Cover Lover
It’s no great secret that I’m an absolute cover whore. I love getting new covers for my books, it’s one of my favorite things about being an author. I also print out every one of my covers and frame it to hang around my computer desk for ‘finish the damn book so you can get a pretty cover’ inspiration. After all of the blood, sweat, and lack of sleep that goes into writing a book, I adore the moment that my book gets a ‘face’ to show to the rest of the world.
It’s also no great secret that I drive my cover artists batshit crazy.
;) I’m a demanding, nit picky, pain in the ass who has been known to
stress out about the smallest details, like the shadow of a blade of
grass on a guys stomach that makes it look like he has a weird curvy
shadow from an erection. Ok, maybe it didn’t look like that to anyone
else, but it did to me.One of my publisher’s, Decadent Publishing, recently gave me the opportunity to do the cover for my short story collection, Prides of the Moon. I adore art and have always wished I could draw free hand, but the best thing I can do is stick figure theater. Fortunately, with today’s art programs anyone who has the desire, drive, and a bit of natural talent can teach themselves the techniques used for making digital art. Decadent saw my work on my webpage, trading cards, etc. and had enough confidence in me to know if I didn’t feel like I could do the cover justice, I’d throw in the towel and call in a professional cover artist.
I spent hours, days, agonizing over the cover for ‘Prides of the Moon’, and I’m very happy with the end result. I really enjoyed learning different techniques, studying layouts, and all the other aspects of design that appeal to my OCD nature. It was great fun to find the cover models who best fit the characters in my books, and I will confess, spending hours browsing images of half naked men didn’t suck. ;)
I recently completed the second book in my epic and erotic ‘For the Love of Evil’ trilogy, 'Princess of Lust'. It’s a fantastic story full of demons, the politics of Heaven and Hell, and more intrigue than you can shake a stick at. When I found out that the cover artist who did the first book in the series, 'Daughter of Lust', would be unavailable to do the second, I begged and pleaded with Decadent Publishing to let me do it. And they did. :-) So, without further ado, here is the cover for ‘Princess of Lust’.
Because this is a trilogy, you have to read the first book in the series, ‘Daughter of Lust’,
in order to understand the second book. I mean you could read the
second book first, but you’d be spending a great deal of time going
‘huh?’, and that’s not fun. ;)

ReplyDeleteVeronica- lol- Thanks! I love, love, love when people pimp me out, I'll be your bottom bitch any day of the week. :) --weird trivia note, I learned that the top/best hooker in a pimp's stable is refereed to as the bottom bitch. If that question ever comes up on Jeopardy you'll be in the know.--
ReplyDeleteAlicia- Thank you! It's such a fun series to write and I adore the characters...even if they do hijack the plot and are known to go off and do their own thing. Darn independent people in my head. ;)
LOVE the cover. You did an amazing job. I can't wait to read Princess of Lust. I already know not to plan work, vacation, edits or anything.
ReplyDeleteI think my favorite cover of Ann's is The Breaker's Concubine or Amber Moon. She has really great covers on all of her books.

I love your book covers! Both of the ones that you made are gorgeous, I especially love the PRIDES cover, beautiful colors. I have to admit though that I love BREAKER'S CONCUBINE cover, that guy is HAWT! I do love a sexy man especially if he is half (or more) naked, LOL.

I like the concept of the cover, but it looks a little stiff. If the characters were more relaxed and natural looking, it would be perfect.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful cover! Congrats, Ann :D
