Awright - Let's get this party started!!! Please welcome Ms. Katie Reus for the kick-off of BBPR Smitten with Film and Music. What yummy does she have in store for us..........
Katie Reus
Thanks so much for letting me blog
here during Smitten with Film and Music!
Music is a form
of poetry and while I’m not a huge fan of poetry, I love music. It has the power to change my mood, which is often a
good thing. Lately I’ve been listening to a lot of nursery rhymes (new baby in
the house!) but in the mornings I usually go for a jog/walk and I ALWAYS bring
my iPod along. On my current play list you’ll find artists such as Foster the
People, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Fitz and the Tantrums, Macy Gray, Breaking
Benjamin…and I could go on forever. I like to have a mix of everything, but
when walking I usually keep it upbeat until that final stretch where I’m
warming down.
Music, just like
reading/books, is so subjective. And thank God for that. What one person might
consider the sexiest song alive might be like fingernails on a chalkboard to
someone else. When Artemis let me know that the theme for the next couple of
days was Smitten with Film & Music, I knew music would be my topic of
choice.
When I think of
sexy music, there is one man that immediately comes to mind. Marvin Gaye. I’m
completely smitten with his voice. It’s like pure sex and if I could bottle it
up, I totally would. Let’s Get It On is one of my all-time favorite songs.
There is nothing subtle about that
song. The lyrics are so in-your-face sex and when I hear it, I can’t help but
want to dance just a little (or a lot). With lyrics like: ‘Let's love, baby,
Let's get it on, sugar’, ‘I'm askin' you, baby to get it on with me’, and ‘If
the spirit moves you, let me groove you good’ that song is just plain sexiness.
It’s an older song, but to me it will always be a classic.
I tried to find a
good video with Marvin Gaye but could only find one with the lyrics. And
really, all I’m interested in is the lyrics and his voice anyway!
While Marvin Gaye
has a voice I’m absolutely smitten with, there are two other men who have
voices with the ability to make me melt. They’re not musicians (that I know of)
but Mike Rowe & Sean Connery also have delicious voices. Yum!
What about you?
What song when you hear it makes you want to melt? Or, ahem, ‘dance’? One reader who comments on the blog today will
be randomly selected to win a print copy of Alpha Instinct (US eligible only), the first book in my new paranormal series.
Good luck and thanks so much for stopping by!
Alpha Instinct official blurb:
Ana Cordona has been a strong
leader for the lupine shifters who survived after all the males and most of the
females in her pack were mysteriously poisoned. As tough as she is, with no
Alpha male, the pack is vulnerable to the devious shifter Taggart, who wants to
claim both their ranch and Ana as his own. When Connor Armstrong comes back
into her life, promising protection, it’s almost enough to make Ana
forget how he walked out on her before—and reluctantly accept his offer to
mate.
The minute Connor sees Ana again,
it reawakens a raw hunger. He must have her for his bondmate—his wolf cries out
for it. But his human side knows he must proceed with caution because of their
complicated past. If he is to truly have her body and soul, he must go beyond
his burning desire and win back her heart. Whatever it takes, he is determined
not to leave her side again.
But Taggart and his rival pack are
not their only enemies. A human element in town is targeting shifters. Their
plan not only threatens Ana and Connor’s future, but the lives of the entire
pack…

Oh yeah ... Marvin Gaye and his Sexual Healing were awesome. Now someone who used to make me want to, ahem 'dance', was Teddy Pendergrass before his accident which left him mostly paralyzed and therefore his singing just didn't quite have the power it did before. His Turn Off the Lights and Come Go With Me ... well gives me delicious shivers just thinking about them. You can hear snippets of them on Amazon at http://www.amazon.com/Playlist-Very-Best-Teddy-Pendergrass/dp/B001M6FWDG/ref=sr_1_2?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1328886349&sr=1-2 Gonna have pull out the CD now.
ReplyDeleteI wanna win a copy of Alpha Instinct.

When I was a younger and more romantic age the voice was Barry White. Deep and soulful.

I have to go by memory here (I'm deaf but I used to hear). There is something about Aerosmith's I Don't Want to Miss a Thing, that hits me right at the heart. The lyrics melt me like you wouldn't believe, to have that kind of connection your afraid of missing out on the one you love. Here's a YouTube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMENWElZU0g
ReplyDeleteNow if we're talking dancing. Nothing beats Harry Belafonte's Dayo (The banana boat song). All you have to do is read the lyrics and it's enough to get your hips moving. Of course I love this Beetlejuice version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQXVHITd1N4
Awesome interview, I look forward to reading Alpha Instinct. (Hugs)Indigo

I am a music addict (just not as much as I am a bookaholic). I can think of tons of songs that make me want to dance around, some Pink, Pitbull, shinedown, Nickelback, etc. or ones that are nice and mellow like Mat Kearney, Need to Breathe, Lissy and more...but ones that make me melt? I guess I am not much of a love song kind of girl, how bout love songs that are a little dirty? I have a great playlist for that hehehe, my husband is a fan =) some Puddle of Mud Spaceship anyone?
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new baby! I don't know how you can do that and have a book being released, so kudos to you!

As strange as it may sound to most people, there are many songs by Metallica that I think are very sexy. There is something about the beat, the lead singer's voice, and everything that just melts me.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new baby! And of course on the release of the first book in your new series.

BN, *very* nice choice! I love the lyrics :)
ReplyDeleteThat's okay, Anne! Thanks for stopping by. Hope your weekend is much better :)
ReplyDeleteHi Lexi! I like dirty songs too *g* (Uh, did you see the lyrics to Let's Get It On, lol). I'm a fan of Pink too! I've got a handful of her songs on my iPod (perfect for when I'm working out!). Thanks for stopping by :)
ReplyDeleteJune, that is absolutely not strange. I totally dig Metallica. They're an amazing band that has withstood the test of time, they're *still* popular and they're not afraid to sing about political issues. Love them! Oh, and thanks :)
ReplyDeleteHi Carol! I know exactly what song you're talking about! It has the best beat :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Artemis! And thanks for having me here today :)
ReplyDeleteOh, I agree with Carol. Sean Connery and Exhile are great. I have to add Trace Adkins voice to the list. I love that deep sound of his!

I don't know...I don't really have a song that makes me melt there is one that makes me cry because it reminds me of my mother and that would be evanescence my immortal. Always gets me.
