December 2010 Discussion of the month. Book social cataloging sites.

Ok. I hope I titled this one right. Our discussion this month is, book social cataloging sites.

Places I know of is Goodreads, Shelfari and librarything.

What's your favorite place to keep track of your books?
Do you have more then one?
Which one do like the least?
Any other comments about social Cataloging?

My favorite place is Goodreads. I love the easy flow and I have no problems finding a book to mark to read.
Yes, I use both goodreads and shelfari.
My least favorite is Shelfari. I find it hard to use the site and to tell you the truth I have a hard time finding a book on there.
What I like most is the friends I have made on these sites.

  1. My favorite is Goodreads I use it everyday . Shelfari I agree is harder to use and Library thing haven't quite figured that one out either.

I met a lot of nice people on Goodreads, amazed in fact how many like the same kind of books as I do.

  2. I was addicted to shelfari until I realized Goodreads was out there. Shelfari looks like the myspace of books where it's pretty sloppy and people just organize the groups as they want. Goodreads, while similar, feels much more efficient and it's easier to communicate. I haven't used librarything so have no comment on that.

  3. I'm the same as above, I first tried Shelfari it's very pleasing to the eye the way you have your books all up on the bookshelf looks great but now I love and only use Goodreads, I find it easy to use, better book reviews and great groups.

  4. I'm a goodreads-a-holic
I check it from my phone and any time I'm near a computer. I'm with you, that I've made several really good friends over there (nudge nudge, wink wink-that'd be you, girlie!)

  5. My favorite is definitely Goodreads, although I usually also update my Shelfari with my reviews. I haven't ever really used Library Thing. Goodreads is, in my opinion, the best place to keep track of what I read, what I want to read, and my challenges.

  6. I used to use Shelfari until it became too much to keep it up to date. I now stick to the original card index I have at home. It's easier and quicker to add to it and it makes it easier to check up on when buying new books.

  7. I also use both Shelfari and Goodreads but prefer Goodreads! The simplicity of it makes it my favorite. I also use FicFact religiously for book release dates and order of reads in a series. I wish the two would intergrate and I would be one happy reader!

  8. I love GoodReads too and BookBlogs.ning - but then again I've only been on the blogosphere for 2 weeks so I'm fairly excited about everything! Like a kid in a sweet shop. :)
Great blog. I'm your newest follower.

  9. I am addicted to FictFact. It isn't so much of a social site but it allows me to keep track of my series and notifies me when a new book comes out.

  10. I never realized how popular goodreads has become.

Shaiha- I have never heard of FictFact. I will have to check it out.

Jemima- Thanks and I hope you enjoy goodreads and here.

  11. I actually used to use Shelfari, LibraryThing and GoodReads. I don't really like Shelfari but that's where a group of my readers friends are so that's how I keep up them.

GoodReads I just never really got into. I used it a few times for the widgets.

I enjoy LibraryThing the most I think for actually cataloging my books. I don't use it as a social outlet. Plus I really like the "reading now" widget I use with them. (How lame is that?) :)
