Over twenty years after tectonic disaster destroyed most of humanity, life is finally beginning to reemerge. Rissa a human survivor and her team have begun to explore and find themselves attacked by armed and dangerous strangers, two of her team are taken prisoner.

Gage and his wolf shifters were out hunting the rogue bandits who were killing the few survivors brave enough to venture into this new world. Then he caught her scent, she was his mate, his wolf was certain; but her group was being attacked by the very rogues they were hunting. Can he save her from doing something foolish, like attacking the bandits armed with automatic weapons?

While preparing to make an attempt to save her friends, a huge wolf stalked up behind her and stood over her growling; then held her to the ground until the attackers left. She thought she was his dinner…she wanted to save her friends, but who would save her first?

He can save her, he can save her friends, but can he win her heart and make her his?

A man who can become a wolf…impossible, or is it? He says she’s his mate, is that why her body heats up anytime he’s near? It can’t be love, she’s only known him for days…or can it? She can face the danger next to him, can she handle the rest?
I really enjoyed the background of the world G.A. Hurst has built. With an ecological disaster nearly wiping out the population and humanity forced to learn how to live again without all our luxuries, it was a believable near future concept. Combine this concept with some wolf-shifters and you have a great start to a story.

There is a good dose of adventure and action in the book that really helps to round out the characters and the push the romance a long a bit. Nothing like the fear of being captured or killed by rogue werewolves to make you want to fall in love! Gage was an amazing guy/wolf. I loved how he fought to let her make the decision about being with him - knowing that if she chose not to it would be devastating for him. There was a bit of a jealousy issue brought up at the beginning that I think could have been done without though.

Rissa was a strong woman - and maybe a little too good at all the weapons to be completely believable. But I still loved her character. She asked good questions and really pushed for answers when things happened that she didn't understand. The only real concern, as I mentioned with the weapons, was that she was too good at things. She seemed to catch on so quickly and adapt so easily that at times I just thought "yeah right."

Overall, a very fun book to read. I'm interested to see what happens with everyone in the next part of the series.

Civilization has ended.

Vampires, werewolves, and the Graced are at war with their human creators, and humanity is losing. But one girl might hold the key to salvation. Held captive with her fellow humans by alpha Wolfgang and his pack of weres, Laney secretly inches ever closer to breaking were and vampire blood dependency forever.

But Laney doesn't have long. Their numbers decimated by plague, humans are being kidnapped and reduced to livestock. And when Laney and her sister are kidnapped by a neighboring vampire clan notorious for its "farming" of humans, their only hope lies in Wolf – who doesn't know the shocking secret Laney has gone to great lengths to conceal.

With their lives and the future of humanity in the balance, can Laney and Wolf learn to trust each other before their races cease to exist?
This books packs quite an action punch. While I read it without reading "Graced" first, I was able to follow along. I would recommend starting with "Graced", as there is a substantial amount of back story jammed in the first half of the novella.

This book screams futuristic Mad Max meets old school sci~fi. Humans are the under dog, and the future isn't looking good. With so many creatures in this story, I'm looking forward to a developing series.
