Congrats to Lisa for a wonderful second story in her Night series.
I read this in one sitting. I couldn't put it down. It is a standalone book in the series so if you haven't read the other book in the series, you won't be lost, but you will want to go right out and get the other one as soon as you read this one.
Don't call Kane a vampire or a monster; he won't appreciate it. He is a Night Walker put upon this earth to protect the mortals living upon it from not only the mortal criminals but demons and other supernatural creatures as well. A lonely but fulfilling existence until now. Once Marguerite enters his life in a chance encounter, everything changes.
This is a historical romance without much in the way of historical dialogue, but I got so caught up in this fast paced story, I didn't miss it or realize it wasn't there until the story ended.
There are two reasons I didn't give this the highest content rating. I would have preferred to have been shown Kane becoming a Night Walker, and his later fight with the demon instead of being told about these things happening since these events were so important to Kane's life. And we don't get to see something happen at the end I would have liked to see. And no, I'm not going to tell you what it is because it would be a big spoiler. But please understand the story doesn't suffer from the omission, I just personally think the addition of this would have made the story that much better.
