When I first wrote The Witching Pen, I wrote it for no one but me. I published it because I wanted to publish a whole story. It was in my mind that there would be at least three books to this paranormal romance series, but in my head, I was writing it for my enjoyment only. I sent it off to review sites, but in all honesty, I never thought anyone would like it that much. Karl and Elena (book one) are lovely, but not the norm for paranormal romance nowadays – certainly not adult paranormal romance – they’re far too sweet! Lol.

I was pleasantly surprised at the response to this book, and to this couple. Actually, I was blown away. People still liked “sweet”?

When I began to write the second book, The Sands of Time, I had an unexpected small fan base. I was no longer writing a book just for me. Amy and Pueblo (book two) were always going to be much more spicy and hot than Karl and Elena – that was clear from when we meet them in book one – but I knew I wanted a hell of plot for book two, and I also knew that their relationship would never be clear-cut. In order for book three to work, I also had to develop yet another couple in book two, and kick-start their relationship. I didn’t know how people would take to any of that. This series was turning into … not completely a romance, although at its core it still was.

I was once again taken aback by the response I got for The Sands Of Time. The plot took readers by surprise, my fan base grew a little bigger and people really took to the third couple, Mary and Gwain. I only gave them a taste of Mary and Gwain in book two, but now I had more people waiting for book three.

This one I was really nervous about. Because I knew I was going to step out of the romance zone by the end of this book (as reiterated in CaroleDee’s review). In my head, The Demon Bride is very much a romance – in a way, perhaps more so than the other books – but it won’t read that way to everyone. I sweated blood and tears over this book, because it had to be just right for the spin-off novel to come, The Last Dragon, which will no longer be a romance, but a very hot urban fantasy.

The amazing feedback on this third book has meant so much to me, I can’t even begin to put it into words.

I’ve decided to price the first book as FREE across retail outlets, so everyone can begin the journey of The Witching Pen if they haven’t already.
