Hi everyone! I’m here today with Urian, one of the
characters from Unholy Cravings. I thought it would be neat to chat with him
for a bit for Villain Week at Bitten by Paranormal Romance.
Urian (U): Now hold on just a minute. You didn’t tell me
that this was part of a feature on villains.
Suzanne (S): You don’t see yourself as a villain?
U: Of course not. You have the wrong guy. If you want a
villain, then you need to speak with Darien Lange. He’s the real villain in
this series.
S: Hmm… The last time I checked, Darien was the hero of Unholy Pursuits, the
first book in the Immortal Hungers Series.
U: *snorts* You say hero, I say manipulating back-stabber.
Did you know that he led a team of FBI agents down into hell, right into a
trap? All of the people who worked for him were caught and tortured by deahmans while he waltzed back to Earth and
fucked some whore. How can you call that a hero?
S: *clears throat* Yes. Well. I suppose that’s one way of
looking at it.
U: It’s the only way of looking at it.
S: Er…let’s let the readers decide, shall we?
U: *waves hand in the air* Whatever. If they have any sense,
they will see things as I do.
S: Um, yeah. Well, we aren’t talking about Unholy Pursuits
today. We’re talking about the sequel, Unholy Cravings.
U: *brightens* Ah, now there’s a story.
S: Why do you say that?
U: Well, in the beginning, Abbadon, AKA the red horseman of
the apocalypse, killed my former master and made me ruler of all the deahmans. *holds up palm showing his new
tattoo of three sixes and a sword*
S: Impressive. You might want to explain what a deahman is for those readers who don’t
know.
U: Shame on them for not knowing. Didn’t they read your
books?
S: Err…
U: *rolls eyes* Fools.
S: Maybe you should just explain.
U: *Sighs* I believe the people of your time refer to us as
“demons,” although we are much more violent than the demons of your lore. While
humans eat food to sustain them, deahmans
feed off violence and lust to survive. *slides gaze over Suzanne* In fact, it’s
been a while since I fed…
S: *glances at his hard, muscular body, chiseled features
and jet-black hair* Um, maybe later. Let’s stick to the interview for now,
shall we?
U: *shrugs* As you wish.
S: This red horseman of the apocalypse…
U: Abbadon.
S: Yes, Abbadon. He gave you orders too, correct?
U: Yes. He wants me to collect the shards of an ancient
relic, a crystal that will open the portal between hell and Earth and allow an
army of deahmans to enter. It will
also free him from his prison.
S: Do you agree with those orders?
U: *Shrugs.* World domination does not matter to me. All
that matters is getting revenge on Darien
for leaving me and the rest of his FBI team in hell and stealing all of the
glory. Ever since he’s shacked up with that fairy-whore, he’s been a threat to
me and my people.
S: You mentioned that Darien
brought a whole FBI team down into hell, not just you. What happened to the
rest of the team? Do they feel as you do?
U: Part of our torture included the chief deahman touching each one of us and
filling us with a dark taint. This taint grows and consumes our thoughts.
Eventually we will all become full deahmans,
just like him. The taint grows faster in some of us than others.
S: But some are able to stop it from growing, right?
U: *frowns* Darien
stopped his taint from consuming him with the help of his whore. He was the
only one.
S: Are you sure about that?
U: Of course. The taint is strong, much stronger than each
of us individually. One teammate, Cai, died soon after he was touched.
S: But there are two more, twins, who were able to resist
the evil presence in their heads, right?
U: You are referring to Soren and Donar. Yes, they have
resisted so far, but they will come around eventually. When they do, I will
welcome them with open arms and together we will make Darien pay for betraying us.
S: *scratches head* Really? Because if I remember the story
correctly, they met a healer much like Darien
did. She is helping them to resist the taint.
U: She can try to heal them, but she won’t succeed. Her
fairy-like people, the Iatros, are
weak. She barely has the strength to heal one tainted human. She’ll never be
able to heal two.
S: But she could
heal one of them…
U: *chuckles* But which one? With each passing second her indecision
grows and my grip on them strengthens. Soon they’ll be lost to her forever.
*grins*
S: True… *scratches head* what if she made a decision?
U: Then the twin who was not saved by her skills will kill
the other. They are both trained assassins, you know. *chuckles* Trained
killing machines, I can hardly wait. *rubs hands together* Darien is going to pay.
S: Yeah…*thinks for a moment* you know, I’ve heard rumors
that this Iatros helping the twins is
strong. Perhaps she could save them both.
U: Impossible. Even if she did possess such strength, she’s
too insecure and indecisive to do it. She lacks the training and confidence
needed for such an undertaking. Besides, I have my best deahman, Nergal, in pursuit of them. Soon the twins will be brought
back into hell where they belong.
S: Maybe, maybe not. Love is a powerful weapon.
U: *frowns* Your confidence in love is misplaced. It will
never overcome the evil inside of them. The twins will be mine. Soon.
S: Do you think that there is a woman out there, an Iatros, who could heal the taint in you?
U: *hesitates* It is too late for me, Suzanne. *holds up
palm with tattoo* I belong to Abbadon now. My life is his to command.
S: *flashes knowing smile* We’ll see about that.
U: *snorts* Let’s be serious. My world is filled with
violence, anger and death. What woman would want to bind her mind, body and
soul to such that kind of evil for eternity? Such a thing is unthinkable. Love
has no power or place in my world.
S: Perhaps. It has a place in the twins’ world though. I
think Tara just succeeded in the first step of
the binding process.
U: Oh really? *raises brows* Which one did she choose?
S: *smiles* She didn’t choose. She bound both.
U: *jaw drops* Well, they have two more steps in the binding
process, each one more difficult than the last. She’ll never make it.
S: I—
U:*pounds fist on the table* She won’t make it. Do you hear
me?
S: *shrinks back* I hear you.
U: Gah. *waves hands in the air* This interview is over. I
have work to do. *pulls out cell phone and dials as he storms away*
S: *straightens and clears throat* Well, there you have it,

About the author
A lifetime New Englander, Suzanne married her college
sweetheart and has been with him for over twenty years. Every summer she drags
her husband and two daughters to Maine on a quest for the perfect lobster
dinner. Every fall she can be found down in Foxboro, Massachusetts cheering on
her favorite football team. In between those trips, she’s a chauffer, a maid, a
chef, an event planner, a hairdresser, a wardrobe stylist, a tutor and a
sometimes masseuse. To keep her sanity, she often drinks copious amounts of
coffee and stares at the blank screen of her laptop, dreaming of great
adventures. Sometimes she even writes them down for others to enjoy.
