Myra McClure, orphaned at birth, found herself struggling in life, trying to search out a place to fit in until one snow-covered night her life suddenly took a strange new turn. In rescuing a very special horse, she entered a world unlike anything she had ever known. Wolves, horses, and human-like animals woke Myra to the world of the Wendigo. A world she didn’t understand at first but a world she wanted to be part of despite the dangers that came with it. She learned about trust, loyalty and most of all how to love.
Alex Wade, head of his own Wendigo clan, offered Myra the protection of his clan and in doing so lost his heart to this strong-willed, sarcastic unconventional woman. Wendigos didn’t take humans as life mates but Alex began to learn Myra was no ordinary human. She had a gift with horses, evident in the rescue of a horse he spent years finding. While his own clan is ready to accept Myra into the fold, he must struggle with his own fears of the past. And most of all the animal within.
Wendigo translates to “evil spirit that devours mankind” by the Native American Algonquian Indian tribe. Its definition over time has changed but has always remained consistent in its description. It is a half-man, half-animal evil creature that feeds on human flesh but what if the truth of the Wendigo isn’t what has been written over the years but rather that they are a cultured society of creatures that live among humankind? A species that cherishes the horse, utilizing the horse’s strength, speed, grace and loyalty to benefit them in everyday life. Harvest Moon tells a story of a secret society living within our own society.

My Review:
What a really good story! This is one of 2011's hidden gems.
The first time I heard the term "wendigo" was on an episode of Charmed. Since then I have seen it used interchangeably with werewolf but I don't think it is really the same. The world T.M. Marie has created revolves around clans of wendigos, werewolf-like creatures who love horse racing and identify with the wolf packs who adopt them. When they change, they don't turn into the four legged wolf creature but are more of the "dire wolf" variety where they remain standing on two legs but hands, face and feet change, as well as growing some serious teeth. Think more along the lines of the way the vampires "vamp out" on Buffy The Vampire Slayer but furrier and more pronounced.
This is another story that hooked me from the first paragraph and had me up all night reading it because I couldn't put it down. Very fast paced with a lot of action and chemistry.
Marie has written some very believable characters and situations. There is humor and lots of sarcasm which I love. I was truly sorry the story ended because I wanted to live in Marie's world for a while longer.
Raven is a megalomaniacal villain you'll love to hate. Alex is a clan leader no one messes with but who comes with baggage and is sorely tested and tempted by Myra. Myra is the extraordinary human who rescues Ray, fighting off a pack of wolves to save his horse who bonds with her. She also wants Alex very much. Ray is the prankster and playa younger cousin who would make Myra his in a heartbeat, but probably only for a night, if Alex didn't warn him off.
There is a lot of sexual tension and chemistry but not a lot of "on-screen" sex.
Do yourself a favor and read this "little different variation on the werewolf" paranormal romance.
