Author Interview with Teresa Gabelman

Please welcome author Teresa Gabelman!

Would you tell us a little about yourself?
Hello everyone! I met my husband my sophomore year in high school and we married eight years later. I have a wonderful son who is my best friend and a senior in high school. My husband is a 4th degree black belt, my son is a 2nd degree black belt and I am a 3rd black belt in Taekwondo. I am a two time world champion in sparring and two time state champion. I also made it in Black Belt Magazine which was awesome and one of the highlights in my martial arts training. Yes, deciding who is taking out the garbage gets pretty entertaining around my house. I absolutely love reading and have such a passion for books I cannot walk past a book store without going in, which drives my family a little nutty. I have always wanted to write and I have, but life always seemed to get in the way and I would put my dream on the back burner. I am getting older and that back burner is going to burn out so I gave myself a pep talk and got to work writing Damon. When I saw my first book sale I got so freaked out I slammed my computer closed and ran to my room thinking, “Oh my God, someone is going to read my book.” Seems silly since that was the point in writing a book, but it was so exciting, scary and awesome all at the same time. I didn’t know what to do with all of those emotions so I just ran to my room, slammed the door and sat on the bed with my hand across my mouth. Writing has been my dream for so long and actually seeing it come to light was a little overwhelming. I finally came out of hiding from my computer and started on the next one.

What are some of your favorite author’s and some of your favorite books you’ve read?
I love so many different authors and finding new ones all the time. Sherrilyn Kenyon I would have to say is my favorite paranormal author. Archeron by Sherrilyn Kenyon is by far my favorite book and one that I read over and over again. I have really been supporting indie authors and reading some great books.

In your book The Protectors 'Damon', Nicole is such a strong female character who is quick to stand up for what she believes in and has great sarcasm. Who/what was your inspiration for her character?
HA! Nicole was so fun to write. I really based her on a number of women I have met over the years. When I write a book I want the female character to be someone I would like to hang out with. Even though I love a strong female character in the books I read, I still want the hot, sexy hero saving the day and taking care of his woman. Now for the sarcasm, I guess I need to point to myself for that. I grew up with a brother who is eleven years older than me so I had to learn how to hold my own. I now have a seventeen year old son and my husband who I go back and forth with, so yeah, good hearted sarcasm just comes naturally for me and seems to come out when I’m writing. You’ve got to have good strong comebacks in this family.

Would you tell us a little of what you’re working on next?
I am currently working on Jared’s story. So excited about this one. I love Damon’s story because of the characters, but new characters in Jared’s stories are starting to take shape and I’m really loving them. I liked Jared so much in the first book so I am trying to keep him in the same character he was in Damon’s book, but with a little more edge, sexiness and of course, sense of humor.

Fun Questions
What is your favorite color?
Black. Yeah I know, blah, but I love black and most of my wardrobe is black. Blue is a close second.

Do you have any pets?
I have two of the strangest dogs that I love dearly. One week one is the little pack leader and the next the other is the leader. Cracks me up, they are crazy. I went to the local pound with my son and friend looking for one dog after we lost our beloved German Shepard, Sable. Well long story short, I came home with two Collie/Shepard mix puppies, Cinnamon and Bebe. They’re sisters, Cin is golden and Bebe is black with some gold. At first it was Bebe who we fell in love with, but after seeing one of the workers yelling and banging on the cage at Cinnamon for making a mess in her cage after she had just cleaned it I, as nicely as I could at that moment, moved her out of the way and reached in for the puppy saying, “I’ll take this one too.” I have a low tolerance for anyone mistreating animals. My husband is very lucky I only came home with two dogs that day.

What is your favorite movie and TV show?
Christmas Vacation is my favorite movie. Love it! I like a lot of reality shows, but reruns of Friends is my favorite because it’s a show my son and I watch together all the time.

Thank you so much Laurie and Nookmom for this opportunity! It has been a blast.
