Would you tell us a little about yourself?
I am a married mother of two living in Michigan. I graduated from Michigan State University with two degrees in science. Like many writers, I’ve been making up stories for a long time. Mine started out as poetry and eventually evolved into the very first novel I wrote in 2008. Somnium is my first published work.
Do you have a process in your writing routine?
Actually not so much of a process – I pretty much write when I can. Sometimes it means getting up at three in the morning to do that. All I need is coffee and my iPod…and I’m ready to go. I have a pretty eager muse that never fails me. Editing is another issue. I need silence and typically something sweet nearby. Swedish Fish or dark chocolate M&M’s usually help stave off mental blocks.
In your book Somnium, Allie has an unfortunate dinner involving wicked lobster. What was the inspiration behind this scene?
Well the book is actually based on my youngest sister. She moved out of state while I was writing Somnium and to keep in touch, she’d send pics and texts. I remember her posting a bunch of pics after she’d ordered fresh Maine lobster for the first time. I cracked up when I saw the picture of a lobster with a napkin folded over its eyes.
Can you tell us what you are working on next?
Currently, I’m working on Requiem, book 2 of the Halos trilogy. I’ve also been working on a novella and some short stories written from the POV of different Halos characters.
Fun Questions:
Do you have a favorite food or place to eat?
My favorite food is chips & salsa, thanks to my best friend. That’s pretty much all we ate our freshman year of college. However, my favorite place to eat is probably PF Changs.
Do you have any pets?
Yep. Two fish. Although, we’re considering a puppy now that my kids are a little older. Keri is giving away one autographed copy of Somnium. To enter, leave a comment below along with your email. Open Internationally.

I have to gush about the cover of your book, Keri. It's just gorgeous and so intense - it's so dark, it really draws me in, like a mystery. Something about it makes me NEED to find out what is behind those shadows around the edges. It gives me goosebumps! It's just so well done!
ReplyDeleteLoved the napkin over the lobster's eyes, that's a hoot! Guess it's so the customer isn't freaked out....it's a bit late for the lobster, obviously, hahaha!!
Great interview!
Thank you for the giveaway chance!

Oh the napkin over the lobster's eyes is too funny! That's priceless!

I love the napkin over the eyes. I was just watching chef John Besh on tv this weekend and he was saying shrimp eyes taste great, but if you couldn't take it, cut them off. Gack!

Ooh! Chips and Salsa. Now I'm hungry!
ReplyDeleteTwo science degrees- wow!
I'm interested in knowing how Somnium is based on your sister:)
I prefer fish over puppies as pets- there's something soothing about gazing into a fish tank at the end of a long day.
Thank for this great post and giveaway:)
Best wishes for 2012!:)
