Interview with Katie Salidas with giveaway of an autographed copy of Immortalis Carpe Noctem

KATIE SALIDAS Bio

The youngest of four children, Katie has always had a desire to entertain. Since, early childhood, she's dreamed up fantastical characters and scribbled them into pages of various journals and notebooks. Taking an interest in vampires at an early age, she devoured every book, featuring those blood sucking creatures, in any genre she could find. She claims that, of all the monsters out there, vampires had always been the most interesting.
It was only natural that a love of reading about vampires, and a love of writing, turned into a desire to write her own stories.
A Las Vegas native, having grown up in the famed City of Sin, Katie loves to feature it as a recurring setting for many of her stories.

Katie Interview

Laurie-Would you please tell everyone a little about yourself?

Katie-First off, thank so much for having me here today! For those who don’t know me, Hiya! I’m Katie Salidas, author of the new urban fantasy series, Immortalis. The first book was published in March of this year and the sequel is currently being edited. I hope to have it ready for early 2011. I also love to write a little Paranormal Romance and Erotica. It makes for a nice change of scenery.

I’m a work at home mommy. Writing and taking care of my family is my job and I love it. I have a beautiful daughter and a wonderful and supportive husband. Both of them have pushed me to realize my dreams of being an author.

Laurie-Do you have a hobby? If so would you please share?

Katie-Actually, writing started out as a hobby. I’d been writing stories both short and long for years. After I was laid off from my regular job, my family pushed me to see if I could make something of my writing. Still not sure if I will make anything of it, but I am having fun trying.

Laurie-Do you have a favorite place to go to write?

Laurie-My couch. I know, it sounds silly, doesn’t it. I lounge on the love seat, in front of the window, with my laptop and write as the muse strikes.

Katie-You have a Urban Fantasy series called Immortalis, would you tell us a little about this series? How many books do you have planned so far?

Immortalis Carpe Noctem is my baby. It was the first full length novel I was able to finish. As I said I have written things for years, but nothing was novel length.

The entire series is planned at 4 books, but that could change as Alyssa tells me her story. I’m a self-proclaimed pantser, meaning I write as the muse strikes. As long as my characters have a story to tell, and readers are still interested in them, I’ll keep on writing.

Immortalis follows the struggles of Alyssa, a fledgling vampire with a penchant for finding trouble. She is stubborn, naive and too headstrong for her own good. Needless to say, she has a lot of learning to do. I wanted to focus on the human element and show the transformation and coping that happens while stepping into this new supernatural world. That is the core of the series. Each book will show Alyssa’s growth, not just in age, but in knowledge and character as well.

Laurie-You have written a vampire eBook which is my favorite House of Immortal Pleasures. Would you please tell us some about this book? Are you going to write more?

Katie-I am so glad you enjoyed this story. It really is one of my favorite stories.

Many people have asked me if I will continue with Connor and Daphne’s story. After such a great response, how can I say no? I’m not sure when I will have it finished, but yes, there is more and Connor and Daphne will return for another Novella.

House of Immortal Pleasures was a fun story to write. Being a pantser, I tend to just let the muse take me where she will. In this one, she took me to a small town out side of Las Vegas. Pahrump Nevada, a place known for it’s brothels. My niche is vampires. I write them into every story I create. So I thought, what would make a Brothel more interesting? Why not make it a vampire brothel?

Rather than go the obvious way with the story, pure erotica, I decided to twist things up and make it a romance instead. Finding love in the last place you would think to look. And Daphne does just that. After being dragged there kicking and screaming, she finds her knight in tarnished armor.

So, will they live happily ever after? Hmmm, wait and see.

Laurie-I seen on your facebook you have an erotic story coming out around Halloween called Halloween Fantasies, could you please give us a little about this story?

Katie-Another fun story to write. Let’s face it. Erotica is just fun. This one was inspired by an annual ball held in Las Vegas at Halloween. Sadly, I must admit, I have been too chicken to go myself. But I have always wondered what it would be like. And what if those costumed characters weren’t all wearing costumes.

What would it be like to give in to your fantasies for one night, no guilt and no real strings attached.

This one is definitely more traditional erotica than my last offering, but I think readers of paranormal romance will still appreciate it.

Thank you Katie so much!

Here is Katie's book with descriptions.

Immortalis: Carpe Noctem

Bleeding to death after brutal mugging on the campus of UNLV, Twenty-five year old Alyssa, is rescued by the cold and aloof, vampire, Lysander. Taking pity on her, he shares the gift-and curse-of immortality. She awakens as a vampire and is soon devastated by harsh realities of her new way of life: the loss of her friends, her independence, and her humanity.
As if having her humanity stripped away was not enough to make life interesting, Alyssa finds out her “turning”, did not go unnoticed by the rest of undead society. Old enemies; an ancient sect of vampire hunters, known as the Acta Sanctorum, as well as a powerful Vampire mistress, each set plans in motion to destroy both Alyssa and Lysander.
Only by accepting her newfound immortality, seizing the night, will Alyssa hope to survive. She and Lysander must fight together against two sets of enemies bent on destroying them both.

HOUSE OF IMMORTAL PLEASURES

Blindfolded and kidnapped, Daphne is whisked away to the famed, House of Immortal Pleasures, a Vampire-run Brothel in Pahrump, Nevada.

Sometimes the only way to mend a broken heart is to get back in the saddle. At least that is how Daphne’s friends see it. And since Daphne isn’t showing any signs of letting that happen, they take it into their own hands. With a few shots of liquid courage, a pat on the ass, and a donated gold card, Daphne is unwillingly sent into fantasy room 123 to meet her creature of the night, Connor.

It’s Connor’s job to seduce and entice Daphne to try all the expensive, sexual services on the menu. And he is prepared to do just that, until he peers into her mind and sees the damage done by her broken heart. After learning of her past pain, Connor’s plans change. No more is this a game of seduction to pad the pockets of the brothel owner. Connor decides to lavish Daphne with real attention and affection. Something she desperately needs. He will heal her heart the only way he can, by showing her she is beautiful, desirable, and sexy.

  3. Wow these books seem really delicious *g*
Definitely going into my "to-read" list!
I am not eligible to enter the contest because I live in Greece, but may I ask a question? :)
I noticed that your heroines vary in the sense that Alyssa seems headstrong and independent, whereas the other two, Daphne and Sasha, seem more vulnerable.

Which kind of female character is more fun to write for you?
A heroine who is headstrong and seductive, or a "weaker" one, ready to be seduced?

Thanks for this awesome interview! :)

Great question yllektra! They both have their charms and they can both be fun to write about. It really depends on the mood and the genre. Urban fantasy it seems really pushes for that strong, kick ass heroine, while romance and erotica let us enjoy a softer side (not to say we can't have a strong female there either). While I love to write them both I do think I have a soft spot for the woman who deserves to be wooed and rescued. It reminds me of old fashion fairytale and seeing prince charming come to the rescue.
