Monthly topic. Ereader, Kindle or what?

I wanted to start a new monthly chat, (once a month). So this month I have came up with a little problem and hope you can help. I wanted to see what you prefer in the Ereader line. I only buy books, but now that we have started the blog, I see there are so many authors that do ebooks etc. I have both of my computers overloaded with Sims games, so I can't download in mine. So what I thought I would do is see what you think I should get for my birthday. So me and hubby can get along:) because I will have to go to his computer to download.

I'm clueless in what to get, so please tell me what you prefer, so I can get the right one.

Thanks Laurie

  1. I don't have an Ereader or anything, primarily because I prefer the feel of a book. But if you're going to get a Kindle or a Nook, I'd go with a Kindle now just because the Nook is a little more buggy from what I've heard.

  2. I have a sony ereader but I do have to download to my computer to load the books onto my reader so probably kindle might be more what your looking for. Other than that I really love my ereader I have 100's of books on it, it fits in my purse, and doesn't bother my eyes at all.

  3. I measured up the Kindle vs. the eReader and the eReader came up top. It supports all different kinds of file formats, so I can upload the PDF files from my Mac. The only trouble is that I need to be connected to my computer to load the books, like Tricia says, it might be a problem if you're unable to download. The Kindle allows you to download wirelessly, but I don't know what their support is for eBooks other than their own format.

I wasn't a big eBook fan, but I must admit my eReader is fabulous and though it'll never replace my paperbacks it's a good addition. Especially when there are authors who work only with eBooks.

  4. I still prefer print books, as I like to cuddle up with them in bed at night, on the beach, in the bath tub, etc. I also find them =easier= to read.

However, I have a Kindle for all of my e-books. I went with the Kindle because I didn't want to be bothered downloading novels to my computer and then transferring them to an e-reader. E-books downloaded to my computer tend to get lost! Seriously, I lose my own freakin' books on this computer!

I'm looking forward to the day (or year?) when we have an all-purpose e-reader with a lot more books offered in e-format.

  6. I'm still trying to decide what choose also. I have heard you have more flexibility with sony e-reader, but it would be convenient to have the Kindle WI-FI that's for sure. So let me get my brain wrapped around this because I have been going back and forth since Christmas.
*Kindle has WI-FI, but you are stuck with their formatting.
*Sony E-Reader has more formats, but no WI-FI.

Is that about it? Is the lack of formatting options that big of a deal with Kindle?
What I really want to know is if I buy a Kindle will I still be able to get my erotic books if I don't buy from Amazon? I've got to have access to my erotic authors. Some aren't widely published. Would that be a problem?

  7. Kindle Vixen has an awesome comparison chart on eReaders: http://www.kindlevixen.com/archives/911

Definitely check it out. For me, it's between the K2 and the Nook. Leaning more towards the K2.
